Here's a little ditty called The Blue Moose Blues. (disclaimer: First off, I hate giving restaurants one-star reviews. It really hurts me to have to do it, but I have to be honest, so here it goes.) Lionshead has a weekly concert series, and on this particular occasion a band called Sqwerv was about to perform, which I was looking forward to all week, so I figured I'd go to Blue Moose and watch the band while enjoying a beer and some pizza from the outside patio. However, upon arriving, I was told that no one could eat at the outside seating area since they didn't have enough servers, even though the place was almost empty. That's fine, I suppose, but what if I served myself, ordered a pizza to-go, and ate it on one of the outside tables? I was told that I could not do that for some odd reason. I decided that I would just have a drink outside then, so I was given a drink menu and sat at one of the tables when the same hostess came over ten minutes later and said I had to order from the bar and then bring my drink back to the table. So, I guess she didn't want to go out of her way to do that exhausting task and make a small tip? Basically, not only does anyone not get any drink service, but we're not even allowed to eat anything outside during this particular event. All of the people sitting near me were as flabbergasted by the fact that no one could actually order and eat at this restaurant while watching this poor band that only a handful of people showed up to see. Maybe Blue Moose had some personal grudge against the band Sqwerv and didn't want anyone watching them that evening, as I've never seen this type of thing happen during any of the other Lionshead Live! concerts. Typically, anyone can eat wherever they want and enjoy some live music, so I watched the band play one song and left because I was hungry. Maybe I dodged a bullet, because it seems the pizza here isn't that great, and the service is dreadfully pathetic. Oh, Blue Moose, I hope you're proud to have earned a single star for your hospitality, and maybe in the future, you might actually value the fact that people want to eat at your restaurant and be more accommodating to them. In the meantime, you can keep your lousy subpar pizza all to yourself! read more

Blue Moose Pizza has been a reliable stop for us over the years, and consistency counts for a lot. The pizza is tasty, the food arrives hot, and the Caprese sandwich was absolutely scrumptious. The salads and appetizers were exactly what you'd hope for, solid and satisfying without any surprises. Is it a little pricey? Sure. But it's Vail, where even the mountain air feels premium. What keeps us coming back is the combination of good food, a prime village location, and excellent customer service. The staff was great both over the phone and at pickup, making the whole experience easy from start to finish. Not every meal needs to be life-changing. Sometimes you just want dependable, delicious food in a beautiful place, and Blue Moose Pizza delivers exactly that. read more

We have to stop by Blue Moose every time we're in Vail. It's a great place to order slices so everyone can find something they like. The service is always great. We usually sit on the patio, but a mountain shower pushed us inside today. I always get a slice of the monthly special. This time it was BBQ sauce with pulled pork, mozzarella, pickled red onions, pickles and cilantro. The sauce was fairly sweet. My second slice was their Sister Resort: marinara, pepperoncini, kalamata olives, pearl onions and salami. I normally love all those things, but it was so briny that it sent shivers through me with every bite. I can't remember all the slices I've had previously, but they've all been good. Average restaurant. They don't let you sit if you don't have a complete party but when we did it took a while to sit. We had 6 people and they split us in two two tables it was a bit strange. The aperol spritz was really good as it has more aperol than the average. The pizza was at most average here. I got a prosciutto & arugula pizza and they brought me a bacon pizza. I was starving after a few hours of skiing and a person on the slope suggested the moose for salads and mozzarella sticks. I thought, hey why not. The food was not worth the price tag and the service was absolutely awful. Our server did not even bother to check on us once or ask how our food tasted. He also never came back to clear any of our dirty dishes once we had finished our food. I had to stand up and ask a different server to take our dirty plates and wipe down the table. Blue Moose is one of my go-to lunch spots in Lionshead. They serve the best New York style pizza. The servers are always friendly, but sometimes when I come in at lunch and they're busy it can take a few minutes to pick up my food. The ambiance is great, it's a very family friendly environment. I usually just get a slice, but sometimes I make larger orders for pizza parties at work and they're always really great at handling orders of all sizes. read more

It had been ~7 years since my last visit to Vail, but I knew we'd be heading back to Blue Moose Pizza since I had good past experiences both here & the Beaver Creek locations. Those fond memories were validated as we came & revisited here 3X (!!) during our week of skiing. During which time we several pizzas: 1). Pepperoni & sausage (see pic), 2). Buffalo Chicken pizza, and my buddy enjoyed a 3). GF cauliflower crust Hawaiian. We recommend all! I also had a chicken parm sandwich one day that was both good and hefty in size - filled me up!! Last but not least, their draft beer selection is excellent, both in variety & quality. They have a few TV's and were great about putting games on for us. Normally I don't review, but at this restaurant we sat ignored for 10 minutes. This may not seem a long time to some. But if it's going to take that long a server stopping by to say they will be with you in a minute goes a long way, with me. I would wait a long time with a beer in hand. Came here a couple of times while on a ski trip with the family. The restaurant is located right next to a ski rink in Lionshead Village. The atmosphere is family-friendly, and it is great for a bite after a long day of skiing. I would recommend the Autumn or Winter pizzas if you are looking for something not too heavy, otherwise the meatlovers' is great too. The Autumn pizza is very mushroom-y tasting and they use truffle as well. Could be a bit too oily for some. The Winter Pizza is very similar to a Margherita pizza. In terms of the size of the pizzas, the 12" is enough to feed 3-4 adults and the 18" can feed roughly 5-6. My family wanted a bit of variety so we paired a 12" and an 18" and it was more than enough to feed the 6 of us. One qualm is that the staff did not wear masks at all, and I am not sure of the mask policy. read more

I stopped at Blue Moose pizza twice while visiting vail and it was a nice casual place for lunch or dinner. The service for lunch was a lot quicker than it was for dinner. For lunch I got the bruschetta plate, which was not what I was expecting, but tasted decent. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip and pizza for dinner and both were very good. We stopped by on a Friday night after unsuccessfully trying to go to another restaurant. I'm sure after a day on the slopes, this would hit the spot, but as a regular night out, I found the pizza to be just fine. The restaurant was filled, but not crazy busy. I do like that the crust is kind of this herby garlic bread situation, could be baked a little longer. My gripe about the pizza is that there isn't enough cheese or sauce closer to the crust (see photo). The server was nice, but after he took our order was never to be seen. Someone else expo'd our pizza so I couldn't ask for things (ranch) and our server didn't check up on us until we were done with our meal. They weren't particularly busy. They also happened to be out of all white and sparkling wines that night, but the red we chose was good. Would I go here again, maybe, but I think there are better pizza places nearby. read more
