The coffee and window were good. But this is the real story of my visit.
Nick D.

So, I'd like to split up my review a little. What are you looking for? If you want a lovely coffee shop with great ambiance and bakery items, 5-stars. They even have some nicely sized and spaced tables that appear conducive to working at. If you want a place to get some work done that requires internet, don't go here. I so so so wanted this to be my place but the internet here is TERRIBLE. I have spent the last hour sitting here trying to get a shred of work done but I have to attempt to re-connect every 3-4 minutes. I thought it was me but eventually went up to ask about it. The answer I got was along the lines of "Oh, we know. When it's a little busy the internet doesn't work". When I suggested maybe working on that I got a little giggle and that they'd considered it. So, I will go here when I want to sit around and talk. When I want to work, I'll go back to Grounds a couple blocks away.

Holy cow is this place just amazing!! Everything is extremely fresh and tasty. Parking on street and in back. Indoor and outdoor seating. Price point on items is on the highish side but honestly each item is a masterpiece and well worth it. You can tell the food is made with passion and attention to detail plus I love to support local businesses. I had the avocado toast. After I stared at the art before me for awhile, I dug in and oh so good. Just a hint of lemon aioli on my palate and the freshest avocado.. oh my. You get a choice of bread and you can add egg or bacon. My hubby had the pressed egg sandwhich and he raved about it the whole time we got a selection of the pastries and again...mind blowing!!! Great casual areas to hang inside gives this idyllic spot major props.

Inside. Clean and comfortable. Nice place

What a nice find. We're staying at the Follansbee Inn a few miles down the road and just exploring the countryside when we happened across this bakery. It is bright, clean and loaded with goodies. Our coffies, one dark and one light roast were perfect. I had the gingerbread scone and Irene had a coffee bun. Outstanding. Her bathroom was clean---always a big thing with us. I looked around. There's plenty of seating, people out with their computers. This is the country version of Panera. If you're in the New London, NH area, go here

This place is absofrutely amazing. I ventured here with my friends after a long hard day of skiing and I was very well rewarded by the sweet treats they had to offer. 10/10 food, service, and aroma were all exquisite. You should most definitely stop by on your best trip.

Delicious pastries

Traveling in New Hampshire and popped in one morning. Delicious homemade baked goods in a homey spot. Got a variety of pastries, all fantastic. The laminated dough items were standouts--the croissants and morning buns. I'm sure the sandwiches and breads are also great but will have to try those on a future trip to the area. Very friendly staff to boot.

Good quality baked goods...Charming local flavor. Gets crowded at prime time, but the anticipatory waiting adds to the experience.

That said, the coffee, food, and service are worth it! There are two seating rooms and one of them opens out to restrooms and a very small shopping/business mall. The tables and chairs are thick, heavy, rustic wood reminiscent of a country kitchen, and the acoustics are pretty good! No echoes or a need to yell to friends or family at your own table. The service is stellar! Lots of students work here and they are top notch. The food is outstanding. Their hash browns are literally the best I have ever had. They are wispy and crispy, and will not leave grease on your plate or in your belly. The eggs are always perfect, no matter how you ask for them, and the pancakes are the best you can get without making them yourself at home. They are served with a syrup, but for $2.00 extra (at the time of this posting), you can get real maple syrup instead. By the way, their coffee is not limited to regular and decaf. There is a delightful coffee drinks menu for options to enjoy at your table or to go! Tucker's also does take out, so you really have not excuse to miss this delightful place.

Cleaner and more efficient. Particularly, their beer selections now include many local microbrews. Best of all, they replaced all the gasoline tanks that were old. The new tanks are state of the art Their sandwiches are well made, lots of meats and fresh vegetables. As well, they have the only car wash in town. And they employ local kids who would have to travel long distances for employment.

Customer in front of me asked the lady about it and she moved the mask below her nose. She looked like she was going to spit in the sandwich as soon as the customer wasn't looking. I was in there to order 5 sandwiches for a family lunch, but decided for our health not to and instead just bought a couple of bottles of water. Jake's lost around $50 on us that day for everything we would have bought for lunches (sandwiches, chips, dessert, etc.) Today I returned. Two customers walking around not wearing masks. I asked the nice cashier about it and she confided it's wisest for her not to comment on masks given some people who come would not take it well--and I knew precisely what she meant. Some pretty motley looking folks seem to frequent Jake's. A red-faced swaggery customer behind me--not wearing a mask--overheard me ask about masks in the store, and he starting taunting me for the type of mask I was wearing. I decided I didn't want to be anywhere near someone like that, or be in that store, so I left. Other than this clear problem with masks and sometimes quite seedy looking people working in the store (not the female cashiers who are nice and seem pretty normal) and sometimes pretty creepy looking folks hanging around the parking lot, Jake's has really good coffee, an interesting and wide variety of foods, and their homemade sandwiches tend to be delicious. You can also get Vermont made ice cream and home-baked dog biscuits, and other assorted things. When I got back to my parents' house I mentioned what happened. My brother said he'd never go to Jake's for that reason and my Dad said their friends don't go there anymore due to lack of masks (they're older).

Food is invariably excellent and the staff is well trained and very helpful. As usual, we went in and were seated immediately. I had their Gorgonzola salad with salmon on top and washed it down with their Rags to Riches IPA. Our entire party was quite pleased with the evening. Our only lack of satisfaction was in the lack of the giant pretzels they used to have. No more. Instead, they have locally made ale pretzels which although healthier, are almost impassable with a hard texture that is unpretzel-like. I encourage the Flying Goose to bring back their old-style pretzels or redo the ale pretzel recipe from scratch. Great evening.

We weren't especially hungry, so my husband ordered a cup of the seafood chowder, which was hearty and flavorful, and he loved it. I ordered a half Cobb salad, which was still very generously sized and full of chicken, vegetables, and fresh cut lettuce, not the sad bagged kind. Unfortunately, the service was a very different story. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by frowning faces that made us feel less like paying customers and more like people who had wandered into someone's kitchen uninvited. After being seated, we sat for about 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. When our waitress finally came over, she also seemed unhappy to be there and gave us a halfhearted greeting. When I politely asked how she was, she replied, "This night is almost over." Not exactly the warm welcome you hope for when you're out spending money on dinner. Throughout the meal, she made several comments about the night being almost over and reminded us that we needed to order anything else we wanted before the kitchen closed. It was 8:30 on a Friday night, so this felt more like we were being rushed out than served. The final bill for two gin and tonics, one martini, the clam strip appetizer, a cup of chowder, and a half salad came to about $100 including tip, plus a ridiculous $3 charge for using a credit card. The food was good, but at those prices, the service needs to be much better. Good clam strips can only do so much heavy lifting. We may come back, but next time we'll probably sit at the bar, where it's harder to be ignored and where the bartender has always been friendly. My suggestion to management would be simple: the kitchen is doing its job, but the front of house needs to make guests feel welcome, not like they're an inconvenience.
