It was lunchtime on a Friday and New London was bustling, yet picking up lunch couldn't have been easier. The sandwiches--made on Blue Loon's own breads--were freshly prepared, neatly wrapped, and stocked in the refrigerator case beside the baked goods. We also picked up a few scones to take home. What impressed me most was the staff. Three young students were working that day, and they were some of the most poised, cheerful, and courteous attendants I've encountered anywhere. One young man immediately understood what I was looking for, gathered everything efficiently, and his colleague had us checked out in no time. In a region already known for friendly people, their professionalism really stood out. The bakery itself was sparkling clean, and I appreciated that the tables were spaced farther apart than is typical, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Next time, I'd love to stay and enjoy a meal there. And the scones? They're some of the best around--always seasonal, always delicious. If you're planning ahead, pick up some clotted cream from the Lebanon or Hanover Food Co-op along with a jar of strawberry jam, brew a pot of tea, and you'll have a treat worthy of an English afternoon tea.

From the outside it looks like a charming New England house, and the inside is restored into a coffee shop while still maintaining some of that classic New England homey charm. I got coffee and a croissant and spent some time sitting by the fireplace in the living room portion of the coffee shop. Some of my friends came with me and we really just enjoyed our time catching up over a coffee and pastry. It did end up getting really busy so make sure to come either during the off-season or early in the morning. The coffee was really yummy and the croissant was scrumptious too. The room was nicely appointed and cozy and I was infinitely grateful to be snuggled in a very comfortable bed for the next 18 hours of howling winds and so much snow... The entire staff looked out for me as I waited out the storm and worked at calming my nerves enough to get back on the road. I had dinner the next day from the restaurant down stairs: a delicious burger the host brought to my room. The next day the same lady who saved me from the gas station floor leant me her own snow brush (which was a beaut!) so I could get back on the road, much calmer and happier than when I had got off. This year's event was a mid-scale plan and hosted 11 food trucks ranging from French fries and hamburgers to Burmese food. It was a superb and eclectic variety of food. The weather cooperated as it was an absolutely gorgeous day. However, the size of the crowd exceeded all expectations and over 1,200 people showed up to enjoy a delicious array of food The busiest truck was perhaps a grilled cheese truck that was the favorite with children and there was easily a 45-minute wait to get food. Next to it, a Home made French fries truck was also commanding half hour waits. On the other side, a Jamaican food truck, a Cajun truck, and a seafood truck with amazing lobster rolls were some of the salient ones. Towards the middle, a Burmese food stand and a cupcake dessert truck were available. Two great local establishments also made a hit. Grounds Coffeehouse provided muffins and gluten-free bakery items and fresh-roasted coffee. And Salt Hill Pub's local brew selections were presented in a fenced-in area. They are wispy and crispy, and will not leave grease on your plate or in your belly. The eggs are always perfect, no matter how you ask for them, and the pancakes are the best you can get without making them yourself at home. They are served with a syrup, but for $2.00 extra (at the time of this posting), you can get real maple syrup instead. By the way, their coffee is not limited to regular and decaf.
