I mention this because we have some amazing steak restaurants in SoCal. The restaurant had several families dining, and had a nice level of background chatter. Our chef took the time to come speak with us, recommend cuts of beef and generally go over our options. This was a lovely surprise as this rarely happens. We started with "fall off the bone" ribs and the Hallumi - (squeaky cheese - wish I could find this here in SoCal... if anyone reading this knows a place... please let me know!) We ordered rib eye steaks, I had the filet... with sides of creamed spinach/truffle fries and Mac and cheese. Everything was cooked to our liking, and the chef came back out to check on us. We actually ended up going back again just because the food and service were great. Look forward to visiting again! (Oooh... if you go, ask for their salts.. I liked the Merlot infused one)

Well on my most recent trip this began to unravel as I had a great yet simple main and it was on the two course menu as well. It was just an Italian sausage pasta - which was very similar to an n'duja but not nearly as spicy. The ragu was great and I really like how they do their garlic bread now too. I've always rated the Pinner branch as one of the best of the chain, and now with the improvements to the menu it can only get better.

There are a number of Italian restaurants on High Street in Pinner, but this one has a light and airy atmosphere that set it apart from its compatriots. It looks to have been very carefully renovated, with a clean and organic look, and lovely bathrooms. We did not have to wait to be seated. My partner and I ordered a Three-Pastas-for-Two-People tasting menu, which came to 21 pounds even -- not bad considering that individual plates of pasta range from 7.5 to 11.5 and the term "tasting menu" is in a way decieving because all three pastas are full size. We selected the Penne Arrabiata, which was fantasticly savoury with Kalamata olives and capers and just the right amount of oil (often this dish is too oily!). We also enjoyed the special Penne with Zucchini and Fried Spinach Balls -- I know it sounds odd, but we were intrigued and this dish was surprisingly delicious! The Porcini mushroom pasta, while good, was outshone by the excellence of our two other selections. I'm Italian and cook my own Italian food, so my standards for Italian restaurants are unduly harsh, and I actually really enjoyed everything and would certainly return. I estimate only 15% of Italian restaurants I try reach this mark. Eagerly looking forward to dessert, my partner ordered an Italian hot chocolate which was excellent and on the lighter side with a good head of foam. I picked the compelling sounding Bicerin -- you recieve three little pots which contain espresso (your choice of beans), thick Floretine drinking chocolate, and cream. This was also my ploy to also try the Floretine drinking chocolate which my partner worried might be too intense, though fear not, because it was amazing and would be what I ordered next time. I'm not the biggest fan of say, Cafe Mocha, so this didn't radically change my mind about the combination of coffee and chocolate the way I hoped it would. But I did have fun playing with the ratios and experimenting, so I think it's an excellent way to see if anything could change your mind about that combination. From the bakery section, my partner had the deep chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream (you may add a scoop of ice cream to any bakery selection for I believe another 1 or 2 pounds) and I had a plum tart. I'm embarrassed to admit I find cream products like custard or, well, cream, slightly intimidating so I deeply enjoyed that the plum tart was simply plum and pastry without any sea of unknown gloopy dairy. The cake was deliciously chocolatey without being overwhelming, which was important since we were having warm chocolate drinks. The service, while initially seeming to be about one person understaffed (it's actually quite a large establishment as you start walking towards the back) bounced back as who I assume to be the manager stopped by our table and helped us with our desserts. He was very friendly and attentive. Technically, my review is a rounded up 4.5, because there are a few nitpicks. Everything is hard surfaces and hardwood, and the tables are packed quite densely in there, which means quite a bit of noise if the restaurant is busy. Secondly, while I believe the food is good enough to warrant the price, it doesn't give you the swelling feeling of "great value" -- just "fair value." They have special menus for things like Christmas, and also have a little shop up front along with their bakery that sells a variety of tasty tidbits and coffee. I'll definitely return!

There was outdoor areas with lighting, but a tad too cold out. Cute areas though. They were pretty busy as well and luckily we got a good table. Wait staff were friendly, pace of service was a little slower than what I'm used to. Had to hail someone down quite a bit, but overall food was great. We started out with cocktails because there was a special, happy hour going on. Potted Devon crab with avocado guacamole and chicken liver parfait. Not sure why I expected the Devon crab to be hot.... but it was tasty. I craved a couple more pieces of toast. I got the duck leg confit with citrus sauce and my friend got St. Austell's Tribute Steak and Ale pie. The duck was delicious. Perfectly cooked, sauce went well with it. The Dauphinoise potato, I wanted more so badly. My plate was cleaned except for the bones. The steak and ale pie was not bad, my friend enjoyed it. We finished dinner off with their pistachio soufflé. I asked what was recommended for dessert, never had a pistachio soufflé before, and it was rich and sweet. Offset by the chocolate ice cream, which had a slight bitterness to it. Perfect combination. The table next to us got the chateaubriand for two. That looked amazing and had my mouth watering. If I'm ever back in the area, I do plan on making another trip hopefully.

This place definitely delivered. We sat outside in their pleasant garden. Only downside is it's not south facing so wasn't in the sun. They brought some water and offered biscuits to our dog (always a winner). Food was excellent. The beetroot and burrata salad was particularly tasty and beautifully presented. Potted shrimp was also very tasty. It gets 4 rather than 5 because it is a little expensive. Worth it but still a bit pricey for a pub. We would definitely return if we were in the area as there were a lot of delectable sounding items on the menu.

There's a set menu for lunchtime that's excellent value, but I often find it hard to see anything that I really want to have. I do like the prix fix menu, but as it's double the price of the lunch menu, it's a bit of a bitter pill. I've had dinner here a few times and again, the food is nice - not huge portions, but in line with similar-style restaurants. The biggest problem is that the clientele averages around 60 years old. So it's a bit self-perpetuating - the food is aimed at that age, and so more of that age group comes, so it all stays the same - and with the exception of when the weekly menu has something that sounds particularly tasty, it just isn't a place that works for me. It's worth trying out on the 3 courses for £15, as it might actually be just what you're looking for! You won't be disappointed, but you might be underwhelmed.

I have passed the sign for the restaurant on numerous occasions when driving along Headstone Lane…read morewithout ever really thinking about looking up its' details. So tonight the Other Half said "let's go for something to eat. Where do you want to go?". Now this is a leading question because we eat predominantly Indian Vegetarian whenever we go out to eat. Now I hope you don't think this is cheating but I have a Tastecard so, during the week, we can get 50% off or 2 for 1 meals. So we called them (as sometimes you have to for certain restaurants participating in this scheme) and booked a table and jumped in the car ( we only live live 5 minutes away!). OK, so the signage that I passed was on Headstone Lane. It turns out it's actually tucked away down a side turning called Broadfields. Turning into, and driving down Broadfields, it seems unprepossessing, I mean it's at the end of a a cul-de-sac which doesn't look like it leads anywhere!!!! There was a large gate at the bottom, which was half open, with a large sign announcing Broadfields Country Club and Mumbai Gardens Restaurant. Once we drove through the gates, it was rather hard to work out where we were meant to go. There was a building immediately in front of us (very much the back of it) so we drove to the right only to find that THAT definitely wasn't the front of the building. Turned round and drove round the other side, which seemed equally devoid of life. We parked and walked along the patio and found a door that opened..... into a room the size of a football pitch (ok maybe I'm exaggerating just a little)! It was a really nice, huge room, modern glass-topped tables and pretty, high-backed chairs and three waitresses standing at the back and, er, waiting. We ordered drinks, starters and two curries together with jeera rice and peshwari naan. They ask if you want your food made mild or medium, which was quite welcome. The food was very nice, good portions although seemed all to have been cooked in the same sauce. In conclusion, the food is very nice, the staff attentive and caring. It's a nice venue although the ambience was sadly lacking as we were the only ones there until half an hour before we left. The main shortcoming was the lack of clear signage on the building with regard to parking and to indicate the restaurant entrance. If you didn't know it was there, you would never know the restaurant existed and I don't see how it will stay in business without attempting to advertise and get it noticed a lot more!

We ordered fresh carrot juice which arrived about 15 minutes later and was very nice and pure, first veg juice I have had that tasted exactly like the produce used to make it! We ordered a starter to share of grilled smoked aubergine, egg, tomatoes, onion and garlic with a side of flat bread, which was very nice however I did add a little salt and chilli as I personally found it a bit bland. We both ordered lamb mains which came with a roasted tomato, salad and rice. The portions were good and the food very fresh. The lamb was very soft and juicy but again for me lacked depth of flavour. I did however enjoy the garlic mayo and chilli sauce which complimented the meat and rice perfectly! Although you do need to ask for it as it wasn't offered until my mum mentioned it. Due to the portion sizes we didn't order any desserts. My only criticism is about the service. It was very, very slow and extremely frustrating especially as it wasn't busy at all. I wonder how they would manage when fully booked! Unfortunately the staff spent most of their time standing behind the bar not paying any attention to the customers. In order to get any attention we had to wave the staff down, even when wanting to pay the bill. The staff desperately need further training. I would visit again however would try different dishes. I would recommended to those who don't enjoy strong flavours but do enjoy good quality food with subtle seasoning.
