The space is quite large and just around the corner from Marcus in the Berkeley Hotel. Dont miss the pig topiary as you enter! On a late Sunday, it's one of the few nice restos to be open, replete with a large French staff. We ended up sharing: FOIE GRAS CHAUD, ENDIVE ET SAUTERNES Hot foie gras, chicory & Sauternes CALAMARS BOLOGNAISE Squid Bolognese style LANGOUSTINES Langoustine tortellini with langoustine broth FLAN DE FROMAGE DE CHÈVRE ET BETTERAVES Goat's cheese flan with beetroot PIED DE COCHON, TANTE CLAIRE Pig's trotter stuffed, sweetbreads & morels MONKFISH Special BAR SAUVAGE, PURÉE DE BROCOLIS ET SAUCE AUX AGRUMES Fillet of sea bass, broccoli purée & citrus sauce Pistachio Souffle and Pruneau D'Agen as our desserts. He retired in 2004 just as I was starting to get into fine dining. I missed his pop-up venture at Selfridge's last year and so, I was very excited to hear that this French culinary legend, who was also head chef at the Roux brothers' 3 Michelin starred Waterside Inn in Bray, had returned to the Berkeley. There is always that slight trepidation that some legends don't know when to quit and besmirch their memory with ill-advised comebacks in the style of Lance Armstrong or Michael Schimacher (so far) The Berkeley is also currently hosting Marcus Wareing's 2 Michelin starred restaurant and I'm impressed that this hotel is aiming very high with its cuisine. First impressions at Koffmann's is how light the decor is. Unlike Marcus Wareing's place with its dark wood veneer, the earth tones, food-themed photos on the walls and oopen kitchen create a less over-bearing atmosphere. The menu is classically and unapologetically French. It shows the confidence of the chef in his method and his palate. I started with a French fish soup, one of my favourite starters and this version lived up to my expectations with a satisfying depth of flavour, enhanced by the traditional accompaniments of croutons, rouille and gruyere. For main course, it was a no brainer - I had heard so much about the eponymous Koffmann's pig's trotter stuffed with chicken mousseline, sweetbreads and morels, much copied but never bettered by other chefs. This was in fact the reason I chose to eat here. Well, his signature dish lived up to its reputation. The mind boggles to think how much work goes into its preparation but the unctuous softness of the trotter and its contents just melts in the mouth. I finished with the pistachio souffle, which was technically perfect and this was accompnaied by pistachio ice cream. A warm welcome back to Chef Koffmann and thanks for a great meal.

I had an outdoor lunch here once, a greek salad and a tomato juice, after a strenous bike ride. The service was good and I was able to put my bike near the table. I walk past here most nights, and their always seems to be a smartly dressed crowd, hanging around and having drinks. I may come here one night and have a cranberry juice and listen to the pianist ( they offer a piano bar as well ). Haven is one of the most fashionable places in this area and you can see why.

The service was super lovely, made me aware of a kids menu and we had the fish and chips and Marques burger. Both were delicious, came quickly, and overall a super positive experience. It didn't hurt that interiors are gorgeous and quirky, and cosy and tasteful. Would be happy to hang here equally on a rainy day as I would a sunny day. Will find excuses to be back in this neighborhood to drop in soon.

Their fish soup is delish, I highly recommend it, especially since they serve it the right way, with rouille (if you've never had rouille, I highly recommend it that too) and big croutons. Roasts are around £15 (so not that cheap, but it is the same price range everywhere in that area and it is worth it). The real charm of the place is probably its dining room though. But the sweets were a real disppointment (save the looks) - varying from tasteless shortbread to dry sponge on some of the items, to uninspired chocolate and absolutely revolting marmalade on others. Only the marzipan covered battenberg cube and the toffee chesspieces (on top of said drab shortbread) save the day. Also they only refill scones and sandwiches once, which is a bit stingy (the sandwiches are tiny). If it weren't on sale for January and I had to pay the full 40 quid I would have been very annoyed - this is a michelin star restaurant after all and I expected so much more.

Chums pasta also looked above average. Bread was very good but arrived with main course. We had a pud, but I only had ice cream so can't comment on other choices. We waited over 45 minutes for our main course to arrive on a lunchtime when it wasn't very busy. I enquired as to where our food was several times, only to be abruptly told by the manager that "IT IS COMING". When it finally did arrive, only 2 out of our 3 dishes arrived. I asked where my wife's dish was and was told "IT IS COMING SOON". When my wife's dish did arrive (fusilli as pesto), the pasta was completely undercooked. This is a dish that should only take about 3 minutes to prepare but even after 50 minutes it wasn't cooked correctly. We asked if it normally took that long to wait for a Fusilli al Pesto dish and was told by the manager, "Yes it is normal because of the cooking time for the fusilli". This is of course completely ridiculous and a total fob-off. It should have taken much less to cook than my chicken in breadcrumbs dish and in any event even a moderately decent restaurant times the cooking of every dish for the table such that you start cooking the dish that takes the longest first in order that all the diners on the same table can be presented with their food simultaneously. The manager obviously has complete contempt for his customers and thinks it is perfectly acceptable to fob them off as if they were stupid. Well it didn't work for me and we will most definitely not be returning. There are far better restaurants in Beaconsfield. Unless you want to wait a lifetime for your food or have a sudden urge to be treated as if you are stupid then this is definitely a place to avoid like the plague.

It's the sort of place where you can dress up for or be casual and both do not feel out of place. The service was good and prompt. The food was amazing. There being nine of us, almost every dish on the menu was at the table. Everyone was satisfied with their meal. One person in our party has severe food allergies and they were very accommodating. There were also a few delicious looking vegan options.
