My sister and I stumbled upon The Folly mid-stroll during our most recent London visit. The interior is gorgeous! I would honestly recommend stopping by just for a drink to admire the decor. And you have to check out the bathroom... downstairs looks like it would be a good time later in the evening. I wasn't too terribly hungry so I went with the plant-based Mezze Board (~18 pounds)... which ended up being rather large and filling. My board included a tomato cucumber salad with red onion + balsamic drizzle, vegan mozzarella topped with pesto, eggplant dip, hummus, spinach artichoke dip, harissa?? (dark red dip), and flatbread of some sort. The tomato and cucumber salad was the best part, and I enjoyed the pesto mozzarella combo, although it was a lot for one person. All the dips were rather oily and lacked flavor/seasoning. Salt, freshly cracked pepper and fresh lemon would have benefited them all. The flatbread was ehh, okay. My sister seemed to enjoy her quinoa grain bowl topped with avocado, green beans, edamame? and greens. I would have preferred this dish if my stomach could handle quinoa! I do appreciate that they offer several vegetarian and plant-based options. I'm sure several of the menu items are tasty, you just have to choose wisely. Service was alright. We were super thirsty and the water glasses hold like a half cup water, so that was not ideal. The tables are also rather close together in the section where we were seated, despite the spacious interior. Wonderful brunch spot! Absolutely loved all the decor. Nice long cocktail menu. I loved my drink. It was Pink and floral and perfect for summer. We really enjoyed the arancini. They were fried to perfect but soft and flavorful inside. The halloumi sticks were excellent with a nice sauce. The Roman fries had perfect truffle with out being too much. The cornbread was nice but as an American southerner (very familiar with cornbread) it lacked a little flavor. But it had very nice avocado on top with radish and peppers. I would happily return to try more things in the menu. I saw lots of things we wanted to try. Great location near Sky Garden and the monument! I was visiting London for the weekend, and decided to meet some friends for dinner and drinks at The Folly. Before we got there, we were sent an email in order to pre-order our meal choices. I got the chorizo eggs, just because I've never heard of that before. I have to admit the decor and layout of the restaurant was very nice. They played awesome music that made me want to go dancing! Which is rare, but, hey- I was on vacation!! Food came, all 10 of us were happy with our choices, I also got the fish and chips- they were on the bland side, but, it was still acceptable. Once I finished my food we were all talking and drinking really good wine, but I wanted to wash my hands so I went downstairs to the restrooms. ......Lo AND BEHOLD!!!! Downstairs is a CLUB!!! What?!?!? I had no idea!!! And they played bangin music!! Drinks were relatively priced, nothing too pricey. Everyone was up dancing! It was an absolutely awesome discovery!! read more

Went here with a hen do and we had a great time. The cocktail mixing class was excellent - we learnt 3 cocktails and they were all ones I would like to make again and feel confident I could make again, which is about as much as you could ask! Our host, who I think was called Alix, was brilliant - extremely friendly, had obviously put a lot of thought into the cocktails he chose (based on the theme of the hen do) and helped break the ice amongst a group of people, many of whom who had not met before, with his easy banter and fun facts. Afternoon tea was very simple - hearty scones and crumpets with jam and cream but I'm not too fussed about cake and bloody love crumpets so was ecstatic. Also meant we could sit and move around more casually which was good for chatting. Overall I'd really recommend The Folly for a hen do experience, one of the best I've been on. read more

Our hotel concierge recommended Folly as an easy brunch spot. At first glance the place is gorgeous, large, charming with lots of mixed electric decor. There were several baby carriages on the top seating area, which seemed a great spot for parents, however the whole restaurant smelled like dirty baby diapers.. We rolled up around 12:00/12:30? and brunch was just about to end. We had to order fast, and I didn't really have a chance to see the full selection. I ended up with one piece of avocado toast, with a tiny egg on top, and chili flakes. I was starving and expected a lot more food - a couple eggs with toast, and avocado smothered in chili.. Cultural differences lesson #1, you are not in Brooklyn anymore smaller proportions. Chili on a British menu might equal chili flakes. I also had a very blah mango smoothie. The whole thing made me feel sick. My fiancé got a full English breakfast and it made him ill to the point he had to run back to the hotel halfway there :(. I felt ill as well. Maybe it was because we were delirious from our overnight flight? Sadly service was not great either - our bill needed fixing twice. I would give it another go though, certainly has potential perhaps at a different time of day. read more

Lovely decor and lively buzzing atmosphere. We ordered the same drink - homemade lemonade - but one tasted very watery and the other had a dark unidentifiable object floating about. The first was replaced, tasting less watery but with another floating object, and was replaced for a second time. I had the salmon special. It arrived quickly and was beautifully presented but pretty tasteless (I felt the need to add salt to flavour, but resisted). The cheeseburger was also very good, and onion rings tasted great. Be careful ordering drinks. Twice arrived with floating objects and staff made us feel uncomfortable for mentioning any issues. read more

This place is adorable! Lots of flowers and plants. The Folly is located two blocks away from my work office in London which made for a perfect lunch spot. I'm a sucker for sweet potato fries so of course I had to order those along with a chicken bacon sandwich. I didn't realize the chicken wasn't grilled but it was easy to peel off the fried part. The staff was super friendly and overall I had a great experience. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in London! read more

Why is Sunday Roast not a thing in the US??? Best meal I had in London. Hands down. Went here for Sunday Roast per a friend's recommendation, and I'm so glad I did. The service was fabulous (even walked away with some suggestions for other great places), the clientele was cool (chatted with a few locals), and the ambiance was just what I like. Modern and open but still somehow cozy. I ordered the pork belly roast, which came with au jus, stewed carrots and red cabbage, also a small side of lemony dessert, which was delicious. This was also my first time having Yorkshire Pudding, which was flaky and delicious and I sopped up a lot of the juices with it. Also had one of the special cocktails (something with spiced rum, spices, coffee, and kahlua), and it blew my mind. Super spicy and super tasty. I ate everything they set in front of me, even the big knicker-bocker glory that this Harry Potter fan was simply unable to pass up (remember Dudley having one at the zoo?). Prices were appropriate. When I go back to London, I will definitely be having Sunday Roast at The Folly, and I recommend that you go too. read more

Mixed feelings about The Folly. Located close to our office building, we had a team dinner while several of us were visiting London from the US. It's got a great vibe, and we were seated immediately when we arrived on time for our reservation. We were seated at a long picnic table with long benches. Three of us had to pull the bench out and then find a way to gracefully get ourselves seated on this bench while wearing dresses. We ordered drinks and it took a while for them to arrive. We had a mix up with one of my co-workers, every type of wine she ordered was not available. Finally they found one she was happy with and then left the whole bottle even though she only wanted a glass. It took 10 minutes before someone came back and we could get the error corrected. We ordered main dishes and sides and everything was delicious. I ordered fish and chips and a beetroot salad (I don't like mushy peas). Fish and chips were great and the beetroot salad was amazing. A few of us ordered desserts and we had an issue with the apple tarts. Three of us ordered the same thing. Only one came out properly cooked, the second was slightly burnt and the third was inedible. It was a production finding our server and getting it taken away. I really could not believe they served them that way. Before we had finished desserts, a man came over and informed us that we would have to leave immediately, as they needed our table for someone else. He said we should have been told when we arrived that we had a time limit (we were not told that). We had not even been given the bill yet, but he stared at us uncomfortably from across the room as though we were disobeying his order. Our bill finally came and it was wrong. They made an attempt to correct it and it was still wrong. A replacement dessert was brought for the burnt apple tart but then we had to ask for it for take away as we were not being allowed to stay at the table. The server did not seem to understand that which led to more confusion and more time. On the third attempt the bill was finally correct and we were able to pay, but my co-worker who was paying said she wanted the service charge to be removed. That led to a series of questions, but she finally agreed to remove the charge. The food was good and the company was wonderful, but the experience overall was tainted by the service and the attitudes of the staff. read more

If I could give a review on ambiance alone...this place would receive 5 stars. I loved the decor. Very funky and cool. Candlesticks burning away during the day. Terra cotta pots as lamp shades and herb plants on every table. It is a huge place with two floors and has a great lounge feel. Food was okay for me. Love the interior and vibrant atmosphere at this restaurant, very reasonably priced food too. Shame really, the place looks awesome, has a great atmosphere, but the service and the food sucked. Well that's a bit harsh, some of the food sucked. It took ages for anyone to come over and take our order. In fact, we had to ask a guy to come take our order. There was 3 of us, we got a duck flatbread to share to start. The duck was nice but the rest wasn't really. The bread wasn't quite right and the vegetables had no flavour. For mains, the boys both got a steak with peppercorn sauce & chips. I got fish and chips. The boys were both satisfied with their meals, and I was too but the batter could have used a little longer in the fryer. It was a little doughy in the middle. The fish itself was great though. With 4 beers and 2 virgin cocktails it all came to about £100. read more

This is a vast, very cool new bar-restaurant-club in the Drake & Morgan chain. It has a very modern open layout and they have tried to create a city garden inside and out of the rain. There are two floors each of which has multiple levels and little nooks where you can enjoy a glass of wine, a beer or something from their extensive menu. The cellar has more of a city-club vibe to it and the whole place just feels right. The location is very convenient being opposite Monument tube and very close to both London Bridge and Liverpool Street stations. I'm going out on a limb here by giving this four stars as I was lucky enough to be on the guest list for the opening party yesterday and so we'll have to see how it develops over the next few weeks, but it's distinctly possible there will be another star going on this review with an update. read more

This could be such an amazing place! The decor is wonderful, and thought through with a lot of taste. Beautiful design furniture, NYC-esque volumes & industrial touch. You feel cozy at the Folly. There's a little boutique in the corner that is very cute. So there's clearly some magic in the air, but it quickly fades away once the very poor service and average food kicks in. Very sad. I wouldn't recommend for a meal. We tried it for a sunday lunch, and we had mixed feelings. The service was hectic, slow and kinda random despite very few customers there for lunch. Food is similarly disappointing. The burger is served on a tiny wooden board, between 2 very (very) thick pieces of chewy bread. The parmesan/rosemary chips were super greasy and the strawberry cheesecake is a cocktail but listed in the dessert section. To be fair, some of my friends likes their meal. The linguine and the chicken/pasta salad seemed nice - except for the presentation: why would you serve the salad in a take away box? The cocktails were great. The barman is clearly a clever guy. All in all, a little disappointed. Mixed feelings about the whole thing. I'll probably go back and give it a second try. This bar is giving me a case of split personality reviewing. On one hand, this looks like a cute foodie outpost of an Anthropolgie (and likely a sister restaurant to the Anthologist) with a Sunday roast that could feed an army for a reasonable price but on the other it has service that rivals molasses that's been in a freezer next to Han Solo after that carbonite incident. If you've got a lot of time on your hands though, the food is worth the wait and is served with a bit of flair to match the surroundings. The roasts are served family-style, so you'll need to bring a friend to take advantage of the big roasting pans filled with veggies and meat. To be fair, I'll still probably recommend the place but some elements shine brighter than others. read more

This place is MAHOOSIVE. Its got drinks. Dining, downstairs bar and private dining. It just spans a large area and that's a good thing considering the sheer amount of city-workers on a Friday night. It was rammed. We came here after be at one for a few more drinks and it was great, if a little too loud and also it's a mission to get a drinks perch/ space to chat. The pictures of the Folly look really nice, so I imagine it'd be a great place to have dinner on a weeknight or lunch on a weekend. Comfortable. Spacious. Contemporary. But I came on a Friday night at 10pm, having already got drunk at a pub in Canary Wharf and not really realising or caring what I was going to be in for once my colleagues steered me toward a bar in the City. It was dire. And I couldn't even see the decor amidst the crowd. Think alcohol-fuelled sexual desperation of miscellaneous City colleagues playing out all around you. Think awkward impromptu pockets of dance parties around handbags. Think expensive and unimpressive drinks. But you'd get this at any City bar at 10pm on a Friday night, so I'd be unfair in giving it two stars. The toilets were like a tree house. I'll give an extra star for that. And there you go. Great service and a detailed décor does not save this place from getting two stars. I visited The Folly for a birthday dinner and had the Beef & Reef for main course since it was promoted as a special £15 deal. It included half a lobster, steak & chips and a glass of bubbly (or another drink). Not bad a premise but that's where the compliments end: the half a lobster should actually be called "two bites and you are done" and the same can be said about the steak. Furthermore, the meat was tasteless, hard and charred. Even the chips were a disappointment; they were either waiting for a while before being brought to the table or, worse, they were cooked beforehand and simply heated. How can you go wrong with chips? I suppose that if something sounds to good to be true... The crème burlee was equally disappointing and for a meal that came just short of £25 I would have expected much better. Despite the great decoration that aims to recreate a "secret garden" environment (the bathrooms are actually quite cool) and retains some interesting pieces of décor (the feather chandelier to name one) , I don't agree with some reviews mentioning it has great "ambiance". It doesn't. It's ironic that their website promises a "calm place" and yet the volume of the music is loud to the point that you can hardly hear the person next to you. I would never host a client dinner here. 5 stars to the service though. Polite, fast and took the initiative of bringing a crème burlee with a candle to the table so that we could sing happy birthday to our friend. A nice little touch indeed... Food was a disappointment and it's clearly overpriced. I won't come back for more. read more

Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope. The plot: Friday night. 6:30pm. Meeting up with a group of friends. The scene: a mid-range circle from Dante's Inferno. Hot. Loud. Crammed in like sardines. Full of the type of people I usually want to slap across the face. There is little redeeming about this place. It was so loud that even once our group did find each other, the shouting to a person a shoulder's width away left most of us with gravelly voices the next day. My ears were ringing the next morning as if I'd been at some sort of great music gig. Except it was just 2 hours in a horrible City bar. I was drinking soft drinks. Each round seemed to come in a smaller glass than the last. Never the same shape or size. Yet, when a member of our party ordered a Jack & Coke, it came in a pint glass. What sort of logic is that? The handful of guys who were picking up glasses were like vultures, constantly circling and pushing through groups and conversations. Any time I sat my glass on the countertop, a glass collector was there. Of course, only rarely was the glass emptied. Some people do just like to use a table or counter to rest their glass as they speak. Add to this that the vulture-like glass guys were incredibly rude. It was just one more thing to make this place pretty much the worst London bar I've been in. And that's saying something. Trying to push your way through the crowds to the restrooms was hilarious. Drunk, dancing, barely clothed girls falling over besuited City dude bros and blocking the way through the downstairs was at least something vaguely entertaining to see. At least the bathrooms were clean. And quiet. A few minutes' respite was appreciated as I probably washed my hands well enough to go into surgery. Danger, Will Robinson. Just save yourself sticky shoes and a headache and go anywhere else. read more

With flower pots as light fixtures and gorgeous colorful prints throughout this place is stellar. And the bathroom? Amazing. Seriously. Check it out if you go. We came here for the Sunday roast after it was recommended to us. We were warned that the service was slow so be prepared to wait. So I figured I would book a table for noon, the time they started serving roast. We arrived a bit early but we were quickly seated with a smile. When the server came over he was really timid and almost intimidated by us and it kind of made the whole exchange awkward. He didn't know when the roast would start being served and after finding out when he failed to give us the menu so we could at least put in our orders. Oh well. I did order a coffee and a pastry to snack until it was time to order lunch. When my coffee arrived it was lukewarm. I'll forgive you a lot of things but not shitty coffee. After we had our snack I got the server's attention and we got to order our lunch. They serve the food family style and a minimum of 2 people have to order one of three choices. We went with the roasted chicken. Our food came out fast (was it because we were there early? was it because the place was better staffed? who knows but I say 'yay!') and we dug in fast. Sadly the chicken was dry but thankfully we had gravy so that saved it. But the roasted potatoes and leeks were FIVE star. Seriously. Best roasted potatoes I've had in a long time. And the leeks were cooked in butter. And we all know butter is good for you, right? We left with very full bellies. My husband was only disappointed with the dry chicken and I was still cranky about my warm coffee. A second visit is necessary before I can give it the 4 stars I think it's sooo close to deserving. read more
