Came here after a disappointing pizza dinner because we were still hungry and wanted a small bite to be content. We avoided this place for the low reviews but I noticed it almost always had a stream of people coming in and out. We wanted a fast bite and it was perfect. The glass display upfront has pre-cooked fish. It was not greasy like some of the other reviews though the owner did grab it with his bare hands to put it into the container. He asked if we wanted vinegar and salt and he actually seasoned it perfectly right in front of us. It was SO satisfying on a cold day and after an unhappy meal. If you get the older gentleman have him season your fish, he does it PERFECTLY! The fish was still crunchy and crispy but had that distinct vinegar flavor and a perfect amount of salt. We came around 7:30 at night and it was perfect, it wasn't busy at all. The later the night gets the more wild this area becomes. read more

I don't get the low rating- this place is great! I have been coming here for years, and the fish has always been good, tasty and fresh. I usually get it to go, but this time I decided to sit and enjoy. Granted, the place is not fancy, but they seem genuinely happy to see you! I always have the same thing- Fish & Chips- sometimes with Mushy Peas. However, I have had the deep-fried Haggis on a stick, and I loved it! This is a real Glasgow institution especially for the late night drunks piling out of the Sub Club and Arches and desperate punters waiting for the bus and having to stand in the pouring rain whilst yet another 4a to Ayr is late yet again or not turned up at all (I feel your pain) - pop in and enjoy the cover from the relentless Scottish downpour and breath deep that unique combo of sizzling sunflower oil , British rail engine grease, fag smoke and last nights clubgoers urine puddle steam and get an injection of delishus Bluetastic Lagoonmungous chips to cheer ye up - always works for me!!! Ahhh the smell of it - Ye really canny beat the traditional Glasgow greasy fish supper mixed with the fag smoke and putrid smell of Central station train grease its a real institution and its been there since the Clyde Model Dockyard was a thing across the way; now that's over 50 years ago so good going for a Chippy that all these ne'er do weels are slagging off ad infinitum - If yer a veggie fanny or some Newton Mearns posh nob then what the feck are you doing going to the Blue Lagoon in Glasgow? surely you know the score or as i suspect just so you can have a good old moan and big yourself up to yer posh Newton Mearns equally snobby and unrealistic fur coat and nae nickers brigade pals that you were slumming it where the "lower class" people go. Coupled with the fact that the Heilanmanns Umbrella is probably the most dangerous place to be in Glasgow late at night with the junkies, alcies and general ne'er do wells its always good to carry a chib with ye if ye fancy a munch with possibility of punch (and I am not talking the alcoholic beverage there); actually true story - my neighbour from South Africa got mugged and his passports and wallet stolen there in broad daylight by a coupla Heroin junkies so be aware of your personal space in this place if you are not congnisant of local Glasgow stabb inns and mugging customs! I still have good memories of the BL wherever in the city i buy my wee poke of chips from and its always a good munch with loads of vinegar and salt to harden those Scottish arteries so go on don't be a fanny gie it a try and who cares about the health content of the food - that has never been an issue with the real Glasgow punters. If however you are a posh , veggie, politically correct Newton Mearns type fanny then best stick to paying £30 for a fish supper at the posh gaff in Buchanan Galleries! read more

If you're a broke student it can be a little pricey. I ordered a dinner and chips platter and got two fishes and a load of chips sopped in grease. Unfortunately the amount of grease on them affected my fish and made the crust of the fish start to slide off and become way to greasy for me to finish. read more

You could do worse than sitting in here for a fish supper. Takeaway though, it's in a nasty damp spot under the bridge near Central Station which is about the most unsafe place you can breathe on the planet. The food isn't good or bad, it's just a bit underwhelming, particularly given the price. If you want a good fish supper, go to The Wee Chippy Doon the Lane. If you want to grab a bag of chips on the way to the train or something, then this will do the job nicely. read more

Well this is a place I'm very keen to avoid. They are at both main entrances to the station, Both have same prices, same food and one lets you sit in . The food is very underwhelming and £1 for a shitty bottle of sauce to cover up the dryness of the chips is wrong. The chips and cheese is very expensive and still no real flavour. I think the food sits out there for a bit too long in my opinion. The pictures of the food ( meant to he there own food) is bland, colourless and still want just under £7 for a eat in supper. Saying you think the Blue Lagoon gets a bit of a bad press is a bit like saying to a Glaswegian male you don't like football. The statement prompts an instant lack of trust, as the mood in the room suddenly turns sour. "There's just something not right about that guy", people will start to say. But you know, I don't care. Perhaps I have an unsophisticated pallet for a roll and fritter, but the fare offered in these chip shops seems fine to me. I can see the greasy debate but it's a chip shop. I love fish and chips, but not from here. I have to admit, the last time I was here was around 4 years ago but the events that happened on that visit ensured that I've never felt the desire to go back. I was starving and was really in the mood for some chips but I had to wait in a really long queue with lots of drunks falling about the place and trying to make conversation, this should have been an omen. When I finally got to the counter I ordered some chips to takeaway and the impolite staff member took my money without even so much as a please or thankyou. As i waited for my chips I looked hungrily at the counter full of deep fried fish, burgers and other unhealthy food stuffs and that was when I saw it. A deep fried Daddy Long Legs, stuck to a black pudding. That was enough to result in my chips being thrown in the bin and my hunger going away pretty quickly. Yuck! read more

I was visiting from Canada and came across this little fish and chip shop on Argyle St. It has a seating capacity for 28 and wasn't too busy so I thought I would try it out. The fish and chips were the real deal. Tasted awesome. Service was great. Our waitress Susan made sure everything was to our liking. Was only in Glasgow for 10 days and returned twice more for more great service and more fish and chips. I also noted that they had a clip from the local newspaper dated 26th Oct/16 which had Justin Bieber dropping into their store and ordering some of their food. A Blue Lagoon on each end of the station, this is just encouraging the fat ugly mungers that are conglomerating around the city to eat more crap and get even more obese.. Have you noticed, you leave by either entrance/exit and you are practically sandblasted by the extensive guff of fags smoke and chip fat! Oh yes, delightful I must say! Do they ever clean he premises? Its bloody repulsive. With such a large local brand, you would think they could afford steam cleaners at-least?! Oh dear. Another place I visited once and never again. Been a while so they may have improved but when I went in a few years back the quality and taste of food was terrible. 'Fish and Chips' is the type of food where you finish and either think 'pretty good' or 'I wish I hadn't eaten that'. Blue Lagoon was definitely the latter for me. read more

A lot of people don't really understand the Blue Lagoon. If you go in there simply looking for a fish supper you'll be ripe for disappointment. At the risk of sounding like AA Gill, this is concept food! The food is so close to the stereotypical Scottish diet beloved of satirists (for comedy, not nutrition) that it can't be a genuine chippy. Nobody goes into an Irish Pub outside Ireland and thinks Irish pubs are really like that and, similarly, the Blue Lagoon is a caricature of the stereotype. This is food designed to be rotten to a Michelin star level and that means it's a wonder they don't get away with charging double what they do. The truth of the matter is that this is a business successful enough to have several branches dotted across the city centre so that's either a huge number of people eating there once (as other reviews suggest) or it is a sizeable established customer base of diners who are loyal to what must be the best value concept eateries in Glasgow. If you have the choice, the branches in Argyle Street under the Heilanman's Umbrella (extremely convenient for Central Station and bus routes to all parts of Glasgow) offer the most authentic ambience. read more
