This is my favorite bar in New York City! I've been coming for so long and when covid hit I was worried. In fact I would walk by frequently to see when it would open! They always have a nice crowd, some fun drinks on the menu. The most underrated part about this place is the food. It's just so so good and hits the spot. The nachos are very popular, I would recommend adding pork. The cheese quesadilla with shrimp is my favorite quesadilla! The best thing though is the Cobb salad with Buffalo chicken. The lettuce is shredded with tomato, bacon, blue cheese, a fried egg and the Buffalo chicken is fried. Wish I didn't eat it so incredibly fast so I had a photo. In fact dreaming about when I can eat it next. Highly recommend supporting this business throughout covid and after they deserve it!! read more

Came here with a friend to grab a drink before a yelp event nearby. The place is really spacious and has plenty of space. We decided to sit on the bar as we just wanted some drinks and appetizers. First of all they don't have a nice happy hour, with so many good bars around which offer a better happy hour, this place definitely lacked in a good HH options. We decided go for a glass, they were out of Merlot so went with Pinot Noir. It was like $10 bucks with tip during HH, don'y know how much they charge during non HH. We got our drinks and me and my friend noticed that the glasses had a lot of stains and were dirty. When we asked the bartender said they are washed in dishwasher but still the glasses need to be clean. It grosses me out when a place serves drinks or food in utensils which are not clean. So in the end she got us new glasses. We had the fries which were OK nothing special about them. I would avoid this place in future as there are a lot of better spots nearby! read more

4.5 stars. Surprises are not always fun. But pleasant surprises are, well, pleasant. Blue Haven, you were a pleasant surprise on Saturday night, and I am very very happy about it. Came here on, you guessed it, Saturday night, with a friend who wanted to have her FIRST LEGAL DRINK! Boy was I honored to be her company for that. But I digress. Unfortunately, this particular Saturday night was rife with college football. I'm not sure I realized how much people care about college football (I'm more of a pro sports girl myself) until this particular night, because our first five or six attempts to get a table at a bar were maddeningly futile. From bar to bar we hopped, hoping that the next would hold greater promise than the last. But alas, we traveled from Chelsea to the West Village to Greenwich Village - we nearly ended up in Soho. It was raining and we were fed up with this nonsense. But Blue Haven to the rescue! We were able to get a table here *just* before the BRO RUSH and we were finally content. Blue Haven is a decently-sized bar with plenty of tables - while I've only ordered dinner-type food here, I get the sense that it's just as much an eatery as it is a bar. The back room has a couple of tables and dart boards if you want to get your bar game on. We actually wanted to watch baseball, and while most of the TVs were showing college football, a few were saved for baseball. No shortage of TVs here - props for that. Our waitress got on our good side immediately, as she shooed a small group of people who were just using a table for a drink rest. So we got a seat pretty quickly, and got to draaaanks. The waitress became more overjoyed than we were upon finding out that my friend had just turned 21 - she couldn't contain her excitement, and it was awesome. There's a fine line with enthusiasm - it can be endearing up to a certain extent, and past that line it's aggravatingly irritating. She struck just the right balance. We both went with Belgian beers for the night (as I always do). ANOTHER PRO: Despite not being any sort of craft beer establishment, they serve their beers in the correct glasses. My Delirium came in a Delirium glass, my friend's Allagash White came in its proper glass, and all was well. Beer and cocktail menus are both far above-average as far as sports bars go. Very impressed. Now, we had worked up and appetite from all of that walking, so food was necessary. This is definitely what I'd call an upscale bar menu. Not your average pub grub. They have a great variety of options here. You've got your typical burgers and wings deal, but there are plenty of other options. I got the Black Bean & Quinoa Burger w/ lime aioli, Bloody orange BBQ, queso fresco, brioche. One of the best veggie burgers I've had in a while. Our waitress was quite confident that we'd be impressed with the quality of the food here, and we were not mistaken. Both of us cleaned our plates. My burger was flavorful and creative, and the brioche was indeed fresh. I'm semi-addicted to looking up menus prior to restaurant visits, and I didn't get to do this ritual before eating here. But I was not penalized - in fact, the food here was probably better than anything I would've ordered elsewhere that night (we were looking for sports bars with good bar food). Just a note on the crowd: definitely bro-y and loud. But we didn't mind in the slightest. We happened to be seated close to the majority of the TVs, so the noise was warranted. If you get a table closer to the back of the bar, you'll be able to hear yourselves talk a bit more. One of the best sports bars I've ever to. A haven indeed! read more

Totally a sports bar and I only came in because my favorite brunch place Jane Restaurant was full meaning no space for 1 @ the bar. I went for the closest place which was Blue Haven. As I mentioned it is a sports bar with TVs hanging behind the bar. My server was the lovely Danielle that always made sure I was ok and didn't need anything. She's truly a cutie and a cool chick! I ordered the steak and eggs which came with some potatoes and it was decent. I wasn't aware but Danielle told me it came with a free drink. I told her to give it to another patron until she mentioned that drink could be a mimosa...I killed It! There was another drink I ordered which is sorta outta place for this place which was the champagne fizz. Solid place for lunch. We stopped in on a Tuesday just as they were opening for the day. This is definitely your typical sports bar/restaurant environment in the Greenwich Village/Soho area. Lots of tvs to watch sporting events on. It was empty when we arrived and we ended up having the restaurant to ourselves while dining here. My husband ordered the chicken & biscuits which came with 2 eggs his way (scrambled) and sausage gravy. He seemed to like but mentioned a taste of sage that was overwhelming. I went with the shrimp burger which was dressed with lemon aioli, lettuce and pickled onions and came with a side of fries. I wasn't a fan of lemon aioli. For the most part, our experience was ok. We were seated facing the bar and all I could witness was our waitress at the bar talking to the manager/owner the entire time about work stuff I guess. Service was ok. Nothing extraordinary, just ok. The menu can get a little pricey. If you order under "Specialties", prices range from $14-22. I would recommend sticking to the salad and sandwich section if you don't want to break the bank. This place would be great for Happy Hour. 3.5 stars - cool sports bar, plenty TVs. It was quite warm and humid, so we needed a place to cool down and rest. Grabbed seats at the bar and chilled. Had the wings with chipotle sauce ($10) - plenty wings but it tasted just like buffalo wings. Hubby had the Blue Point draft ($4) and I had the Sam Smith Cider ($5). They actually have a really decent brunch here on weekends, although as a sports bar it doesn't appeal to females in the same way as Jane, Aunt Lily's, and other cuter options nearby. The crowd here is decidedly bro-like, with many tall and blond(e) white people watching the game or enjoying a weeknight date. Still, the people behind the bar seem friendly enough and they do have a few nice brews on tap and bottled. You can certainly do worse. Come for football games! read more

I like this place for it's consistency. Good draught selection and food never disappoints. Great place for a quick drink during happy hour or first drink before heading out for the night. First of all, miss this place loads now that I moved uptown as I lived in that same corner before. My vote should be considered a 4 of 4 because 5's are reserved to the premier restaurants. I have been coming here for 5 years even before the current ownership when I just move to NYC so it says something about how welcoming it is. Tried everything on the menu already for lunch, breakfast, dinner and brunch. Here are my thoughts. Best Nachos of USA. Pulled pork is orgasmic, great calamari, very legitimate burger and best hot wings that I have ever tasted. By miles and miles best sports bar food I have ever had. Brunch / Huevos Rancheros and the Chicken & Biscuits are your recipe for success. I went back this Sunday to watch basketball games and only recognized 1 staff member which makes me a little sad its like starting all over again. Other folks knew what my "usual" was. Quick drinks, great food, they are very accommodating on programming request when my Honduran Soccer national team was playing for world cup qualification.. Rating this place for use of private events. We had a bachelor party here and rented out the back room on a busy college football Saturday night. Staff was super easy to deal with when setting up, price seemed very reasonable. Was blown away by the service and attention we got while the bar was basically full. We never had to track down a server and they were super attentive with getting drinks and food. Only down side to this place is the bathroom, since it's very small and leads to long waits. Would definitely recommend renting out their back room for a private event. read more

This place used to be great, but the bouncer is so awful and mean to customers that there have been numerous complaints against him and the management has done nothing despite being aware of it. I was victim to this myself when I went to Blue Haven for lunch a few months back on a Sunday. I was too slow to show the bouncer my ID on the way back from the bathroom (I was sitting outside), so he kicked me out of the bar very aggressively actually getting in my face when I was surprised and confused.. we hadn't even paid for our food and I *did* actually show him my ID (I'm in my late 20s). Confused, the server asked what was going on, and when I told her she said that the bouncer has a short a temper and can "be like that" with customers. The server got the manager, who came over and apologized to me and said my party could stay if we wanted to. Manager also offered to comp our food. We declined and canceled our orders and left. I suggested to the manager that she look into training the bouncer better or hiring one who does not try to instigate problems with customers. Later, some friends of mine told me they also had issues with this specific bouncer on previous occasions and had complained to management about it. It's pretty crazy. Sometimes the situation at a sports bar can call for a tough bouncer. But a rainy Sunday afternoon (not football season) when there's 12 customers in the entire place in eating lunch? Doesn't make much sense. My guess is the ownership knows and doesn't care because I haven't seen them acknowledge any bad reviews before. I've been coming to Blue Haven for many years but no longer. Many nice, clean sports bars in the area that understand hospitality and where staff treat customers with dignity. read more

Super nice sports bar with friendly staff. I went here with a friend last night and had some food and beers. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and accommodating. She really made us feel welcomed. We split the nachos (best nachos I've had in nyc) and then I had the short rib sandwich and my friend I believe had the flank steak sandwich (?). My short rib sandwich was super flavorful. Additionally, this bar/restaurant felt clean and has great air circulation. Usually sports bars stink like frat house basements; this one did not...appreciated! I will certainly be back. This place is comically horrendous. They ignore you from the get go because they know they're going to ding you with an automatic 20% tip on your bill. We were the only people in the place and it took 10 minutes for anyone to even pay attention to us. Our waitress Alex did not even try- no apologies for ignoring us nothing. Came here to watch the Stanley Cup Finals during the week, while also celebrating a friend's birthday. We took the space in the back of the bar, which was just enough room for our group, and had plenty of TVs and tables without feeling overly cramped. The rest of the bar had plenty of TVs and seating too, but it was nice to be tucked away in the back section. Sadly, the Penguins didn't win that night, but we got the last laugh. The scene is pretty fratty, but in a more manageable sense, and we never felt uncomfortable by any means. Plus, I like being around my frat-tastic brethren. The food was pretty good, although we didn't actually order any food for ourselves, just bummed off of other people's orders, heh. It's your typical pub food, but portions are pretty great, and everything we tasted was pretty spot on. Tried the buffalo chicken sandwich, which came with truffle fries, and everything came out hot and pretty fresh. Fries were crispy, as was the buffalo chicken, and the sandwich was HUGE. Good when a sports bar takes a little more time with their food. Can't really go wrong with that. The beer selection was great, and they carried quite a few of my favorites, including the Goose Island Matilda. Not terribly hard to find in New York, but still nice that they had it available. Service was actually quite attentive. More often than not, when there are large parties, it can get a little spotty, but our server was very good about getting us our beers and food. Prices for food were pretty decent, especially for the price, and the beers were about $6-8, for relatively common craft beers, which wasn't too bad. This place is AWESOME. Service was great, PULLED PORK nachos were amazing, chicken fingers were panko fried. They have a million TV's to watch football on, and believe you me we walked around in circles trying to find a decent bar with the GATOR game on it for a good 30 mins. All the other YELP sports bars were no buenos tacos. We actually even came back on Sunday after we tried 3 other bars prior to watch Football at. Some of the other bars in this area claim to be sports bars and then don't even have TV's???? That's just a sin. So I popped into Blue Haven to watch the US Women's World Cup semi's and was pleasantly surprised to see what a welcoming space this is. For catching a game they've got ample HDTV's including a HUGE hi-def projector over the bar with remarkable clarity...not a bad seat in the house. They've got a decent, juicy big burger with cheese options like blue and pimento, crunchy fries and $4 HH pints! This is a great place to go on a game day because they take reservation unlike some of the other sport/brunch bars in Manhattan. However, It gets so loud and crowded. To the point that they let people stand around tables that do not even have a table. While we were finishing our drinks there was a large group of women surrounding our table drinking and chatting. I couldn't hear my own thoughts so we gathered our things to skedaddle and like vultures to an injured deer they ascended onto our table with fervor and violence. I barley escaped alive. Came to bid a co-worker farewell and we took up almost the entire backroom area. All in all, the drinks were inexpensive, the wings were spicy (which I love) and the nachos were delicious. The main thing (or person, rather) I want to point out is our server. She was THE BEST. We must have handed her a zillion different credit cards, to have several tabs opened up and she kept it all straight (hats off to her!). I also like the fact that there are lots of windows...it doesn't feel like you're entering into a cave. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend ordering a burger , nachos, or the paddy castro (their take on a cuban sandwhich). I've been here just for drinking, but I prefer to come if I'm eating. Specifically eating brunch and watching college football. Brunch is served in front of large televisions showing just about every college football game that's being aired. If your game isn't on one of the screens, they're more than happy to find it and put it on. +2 stars just for that Down and dirty southern food that actually calls to mind the south +1 Go for the shrimp and grits. I live 2 blocks from this bar/ restaurant. Reserved a table for for 8-10 people for my birthday to watch football. Order from here on a regular basis. With that all said, when we got there, they gave us 2 hightops that on a good day could sit 6. We were expecting friends that caught in traffic. Some showed and we were still waiting for more on their way. I don't drink but the others do and in my opinion, they told me I had to give up on of the high tops because I wasn't ordering alcohol. I will NEVER go there again and I will tell anyone I can not to. They were very crass and unprofessional and it's a shame because I USED to enjoy going there. It's a shame. This is a decent sports bar. It is dark and can be a little noisy; TVs are all over and as a sports bar the crowd is a bit bro-y. On a Thursday night you have one-two suits but quite a number of gingham button downs untucked over jeans. Pass the bar there are tables in the back which offer a quieter experience to the noise in the front. Beers are around 8 bucks a pop and they have a decent selection. A bud light will cost you $6. Cheap drinking this is not. That being said, what makes me a fan of this "decent bar" is that the service here is quite good. A little on the pricey side for what it is, but the food is damn near perfect. Had the Kobe Beef Sliders (a special menu item, not an everyday) which were incredible. The carmelized onions worked perfectly with the flavor and juiciness of the meat. For $14, it could've used another slider - only three came with the meal - but that's the only complaint I have about it. Blue Haven has a great atmosphere and interestingly enough has board games for you to play. Disclaimer: this is not something we typically do at bars, but we decided to make scrabble into a drinking game and had some fun with it. We were just taking it easy, not raging at all... and somehow four of us after two hours had a several hundred dollar tab!!! This isn't freaking Ibiza. I paid almost a hundo. Part of the problem may have been that my "jack and coke" only came in happy meal size, literally in a 5 oz glass, 3 oz of which was ice. So in the end, come here if you want to chill for a bit but I'd say stick with beer. If you are ready to rage, expect that your individual tab may be enough to feed a small third world country. read more
