The sales team was very pleasant during their visit. Never discussed the equipment that was being installed but rather talked only about bottom line pricing. I was told I would receive a contract and receipt. Never did and no response from the sales team that was so pleasant on the visit but obviously not genuine. The wires to my ac unit we mistakenly cut so we had no AC on the hottest day of the year so far. I called Bluesot at about 9:30am for service. They promised a tech would be out between 4 and 8. I was impressed that they could be there that day. My elderly mother my daughter and I waited in the sweltering heat all day. Blue dot didn't show and didn't call. I called at 8:20pm to see what the issue was. I was promised a return call to update me. I STILL haven't heard from them two days later. I called Horizon instead. They promised a same day call between 4and 8 too, but they arrived at 4:20 on the dot, gave great customer service and had us up and running in.m no time. Blue Dot installed a three (3) Zone Mini-Split Heating/Cooling unit in my home in March 2022. There was going to be one indoor unit installed in the basement. I informed the Blue Dot installer at the time that the basement would be renovated in May 2022 and we would be removing most of the walls. I specifically ask the tech to make sure the indoor unit is attached to the wood studs so that we can simply cut the existing drywall around it when the work was being done. When the renovations work started in May, the contractor was trying to cut off the drywall around the unit when it nearly fell off the wall. We discovered that the until was screwed into the drywall using plugs and not to any studs. A wood scaffold had to be built to hold the unit up. Additionally, the drainage pipe that should have been on the outside, was inside the drywall. I called Blue Dot to come and correct their installation errors and it took 2 weeks, dozens of calls and cancelled appointments before a technician was sent out. The tech took a look at the issue and claimed that the installation was acceptable and even made an absurd claim that there must not have been any wood studs in the wall to begin!!! He admitted that the drainage pipe being in the inside wall was wrong but did not fix the problem and said that another tech would be sent out to do that work. Instead he told me I had to pay $2250 for the unit to be removed from the drywall and attached properly to wood studs. He created an impression of how difficult the work would be and refused to accept that the original installation was wrong to begin with. He also never did send anyone out to fix the issue of the drainage pipe. Blue Dot is a company that is only interested in getting new business and not in making sure that the customers are happy afterwards by owning up to their errors and rectifying them. Bottom line: I've previously used and had good experiences with Blue Dot technicians in the past. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to recommend a company that charges $100 just for an estimate. They purportedly apply the $100 towards any work you have done as a result, but it it comes across as nothing more than a slimy way of trying to lock people into hiring them ("I don't want to lose my $100, so I'll just hire them") and forces customers who prefer to shop around to exclude them. I was interested in getting a consultation and estimate to help me decide whether to install a whole-house humidifier in my home and determine how much it will cost to do so. Blue Dot's website states that they do free estimates for "new equipment installations." I thought the humidifier would qualify, but I was apparently mistaken. I declined the appointment. There are plenty of other businesses in the area who will give a free estimate. Like most HVAC companies, their appointment windows are very wide (4 hours in their case), which makes scheduling a frustrating and potentially costly crapshoot when you have to take time off of work or arrange child supervision. I'm only holding that against them a little, as it seems to be a challenge of the industry and not a failing of this individual company. read more

I had this HVAC installed in 2015. The reason I am referring to it now is because it has been nothing but trouble. The purpose of having a new system, is to lower your bills. That was not the case with Blue Dot. After having it installed my bills escalated to the hundreds. Higher than $800.00 one month. It became so painful to us financially I contacted BG&E, accusing them of over charging me. I wrote a letter to the commission for public services. It was determined by BG&E that the system had been installed incorrectly. I contacted them (Blue Dot) they made an attempt to correct the physical problem, but not to completely compensate me for the thousands of dollar tha I had been charged in extreme electric bills. Nor were they empathetic to my loss. Because I was dealing with other personal issues. I settled for a small portion of the money I had spent on Electeic Bills. The reason I am writing this review now is because this system has gone up again, and is causing my electric bill to soar again. It has caused the system to go into axillary mode which makes the system work extremely hard. Which means the bill is going to be outstanding for this month. As I write this review I have no heat it has completely stopped working. I will not be calling Blue Dot for repair. They have cost me nothing but money, since our meeting. This is one of the worst experiences I have had dealing with a suppose to be reputable company. Do not do business with them! It will cost you more than you know! My furnace stopped working on the coldest day of the year, unfortunately it was also a Saturday night. I called every hvac Company listed as 24 hours and was able to obtain a few appointments for Sunday. I bought some space heaters to keep my family and pets somewhat warm until the next day. The next morning we were elated to see the blue dot truck pull into our driveway! The tech (using this term loosely) came in and got to work. I watched as he hastily diagnosed the issue. He says, "Well, according to the code it should be working." After five minutes he had his diagnosis, the control board is shot. He tells me there is no chance of repair, and that I would wait months if I had to order the part. "I can have someone here to give you an estimate to replace your unit in an hour." He tells me, now keep in mind the unit is only seven years old! Ok, so in desperation I make the appointment for the estimate. About an hour later (still on Sunday) the estimator shows up. He attempts the hard sell, agreeing with the tech that parts for this furnace are "impossible to get right now." Gives me a quote for $5850. Much to his dismay I decline to make an on the spot decision. When I told him I had a few other companies coming to take a look he tucked his tail between his legs and drove off. Literally as he got into his truck a tech from the next company pulled in. He came in and got cracking. I told him what blue dot's tech had said was wrong. After a few short minutes he was able to PROPERLY diagnose the issue. "The gas valve needs to be replaced, I'll order the part and be over to install it for you early tomorrow morning." He says. He shows up promptly at 9, replaces the valve and the furnace fires right up! I'm sure blue dot buys their fancy wrapped trucks with the money they make by ripping off their customers. We had them install a new furnace 2 years ago. They wound up installing it incorrectly (didn't bother updating the duct work to support the new furnace). Next, we had them replace the water heater at their recommendation. I go in the basement that night to find the pipes pouring water into the basement. This provider just can't seem to install things correctly the first time. In addition they only warranty labor for one year and their labor is EXPENSIVE. I estimate they charge $400 - $800 / hr, as we have required a couple of additional fixes to the unit after the one year full warranty. Avoid this provider. read more

Be very doubtful if BlueDot salespeople offer you a gift card promotion. They would not honor their promise after you paid for the services. I got a new furnace/HVAC system with BlueDot in November 2023. At the contract signing process, the salesperson and I agreed that I would get back $200 in promotional gift cards. The salesperson seemed professional and even re-assured me about the cards a couple times during the process. We then got our furnace/HVAC system installed and paid for it in full. It has been 2 months since the installation date and I haven't received the cards. I checked with BlueDot customer services but they told me to contact the salesperson. My last text to the salesperson was almost 2 weeks ago and he did not respond. As of now, I haven't received my gift cards as promised by the BlueDot salesperson. This really changed my view about BlueDot and the company's sales team. If they could not or would not honor their promotional offers, they should NOT offer the promotional gift cards in the first place, because the main reason I picked BlueDot to install our new system was our trust in the company reputation. Just had a new hvac unit installed. Salesperson was great. The installers were on time and did an exceptional job. Except they disconnecting power to my hot water heater. Called blue dot for service and was told to contact an electrician and if it was proven that blue dot was at fault, they might reimburse me. Why should I pay for an electrician in the hopes of being reimbursed when it was an issue created by blue dot during the install. After paying $17,000 for the unit, I thought they might send someone right away. To me that would have been the correct call, but guess not. I contacted service the next day and stated that I was NOT going to get an electrician and that they needed to fix the issue that they created. Was told they would speak to a manager and get back to me. My phone never rang?!?!? Another day went by, so I called again. Was told by blue dot that it may be coincidence that my outlet for my hot water heater may be bad. I guess it's a one in a million chance, but after discussing the issue, they finally would send someone out. Service techs arrived in good time, but wouldn't really listen to me about what the issue was. I even asked several times if anyone had spoken to the installers to find out what they have done, but that fell on deaf ears. After a few minutes, I realized they were not going to get this resolved and asked them (in not so nice manner) to leave. My wife and I bought our first home in June of 2019, and the previous owners suggested we use Blue Dot for regular, biannual service checkups on the HVAC system (they'd used Blue Dot and thought they were fine). So, we contacted them, had them out to the house, and pre-paid for biannual service maintenance. Upon our first service in August of 2019, the Blue Dot rep (who was great, honestly, a really nice, straightforward guy) found a leaking coil and recommended replacing it. They sent a sales rep named Andy who was pushy, aggressive, and suggested that the best solution was to replace the entire split system, to the tune of between $10,000 and $12,000. At minimum, he estimated $3,400 for a new outdoor condenser unit. A quick consultation with two other area HVAC companies who gave us quotes made it very clear that the only replacement we needed cost about $1,600, plus labor. This made my wife and I feel that Blue Dot was intentionally taking advantage of new home owners and using fear as a sales tactic. Needles to say, the sales rep's attitude, behavior, and up-selling really turned us off to Blue Dot. Then comes the pandemic and a long summer. On August 11, 2020 a representative from Blue Dot called me to schedule our pre-paid maintenance, and I told them that I didn't want to do business with them any longer, and asked for a refund. I was told that this wasn't their policy, and that, sorry, I was out of luck. This is bizarre: during a global pandemic, a company that proved to me that they weren't trustworthy, wants access to my house for an inspection OR I have to just eat the charge for that service. This is like paying for the pleasure of keeping them out of my house during a pandemic, which is pretty weird, right? I mean, that's how a mafia protection racket works ("It'd be a shame for something bad to happen to your nice, little store here!"), not how an HVAC company should work. So I had a air conditioning unit put in a month ago and it has started acting up. It keep losing power. A technician was supposed to come between 8-12. They didn't so then it was 10-2, it's now 6 pm and no one called or came to fix the problem. Going by the reviews I wish I would've read them first before hiring Blue Dot. He was shown the thermostat and attic entry point. He retrieved his ladder. At my front door ge said that it would be another $306 to look at my unit. We purchased our Rheem HVAC unit in the spring of 2016. The sales rep talked us into a hybrid heat pump and oil heat system since we already had oil heat as our primary. This system is wonderful when it actually works correctly. What we didn't know until later on was that not many technicians in the profession are still taught or have experience working with oil heat, at least not within this company. Since then, we have had over 10 service visits to try to resolve multiple issues with our unit, both heating and AC. Almost every heating AND cooling season we have some kind of problem. Blue Dot did extend our warranty so any service visits or repairs are of no charge. However, when does it become problematic enough to claim this unit as a lemon and have it replaced? This has yet to be offered. There have been at least 3 incidences where an appointment was scheduled and the technician never showed. The first time it was a no call/no show. The last two times this occurred which was just yesterday was rescheduled for today and Blue Dot could not provide a legitimate reason as to why this happened other than being "overwhelmed". My husband has specifically asked for a manager to be on-site with all of the issues that have occurred but this has yet to happen. Apparently this company thinks it's justifiable to have their customers remain at their mercy, being forced to take off of work and cancel plans to accommodate a four hour window timeframe just to be told after waiting that no technicians are available. Tonight will be our third night with no heat in the house, as temperatures drop to the low 30's at night. IF a negative starred review could be given, it's what they actually deserve. Blue Dot has been our heating and cooling company since 1998. We had a large home with three HVAC units - all well serviced and eventually upgraded through Blue Dot. We subscribed dutifully to their service plan and had no issues. Fall and spring checkups were easy to schedule and done thoroughly. Fast forward to a smaller home (kids are grown). We contact Blue Dot for programmable thermostats. They install them incorrectly. Even better, when we repeatedly TOLD them this, they replied we were wrong. The issue was the ability to have the thermostats on an "auto" setting. The installer did not set the thermostats up correctly, but Blue Dot stood by their man and insisted we had the auto feature. Threats to loose a 19 year customer finally resulted in ONE man who knew what to do. Come to today. AC is broken. Service man comes and removes the air filter. He places it on the ground in my home. He determined the air filter needs to be replaced. We have a service contract with Blue Dot. What's the issue? Oh, he doesn't carry the air filter for our unit on his truck when he Is SCHEDULED to come to our house. Twits and inferior service from all! HVAC was installed March 18th 2019. May 19th 2019 house is 80 degrees and not cooling down. May 20th: Our house is 81 while it is 75 outside. Barely any air coming through the vents. Call Alecia at 8:30pm and she states a repair person would come between then and midnight. Stated we would have a 119 fee but we explained that it is new system and we were talked out of the 220 fee that would have covered this. She put a note saying we didn't have to pay. It's about 11:00pm when the technician calls and says that they have too many people in front of us and cancels. We call the office again to reschedule and get a different woman on the phone. She says that she can't schedule anything since she is the after hour staff. May 21st We call first thing in the morning at 7:15am and explain the situation to a new woman on the phone. She schedules us for a 2-6 time slot for a technician to come. Says we don't have to pay the fee. Technician comes and "he is going fill it with refrigerant, which should make it ok for the night but he said that they may need to run a leak test which they would need to do in the AM because it takes a while." My husband mentions how it doesn't blow air very well so the technician says he noticed it too and manually tries to speed up the fan speed and it doesn't work "he said he knows what the issue is, but he can't fix it. There is a computer part on our fan inside that has some defect that isn't allowing it to speed up (which is why it doesn't feel like air is coming out). That needs to be replaced, but it has to be ordered." He puts in the order for the part and notes for someone to call us the next day for delivery schedule. May22nd I call in the morning and Megan tells me that the part won't be here until Friday. Tells me they will schedule something when the part comes in. I tell this to my husband and he calls 30 minutes later and gets a woman who says the part will come in Thursday (tomorrow). She said they would call to schedule an appointment once it arrived. This is very bad communication and no one gives us the same answers. May 23 Husband called and made an appointment for Friday 12-4 so that we wouldn't have to wait the whole hot weekend before the part is installed. No one called like they said to tell us if the part had been delivered so I called around 11:30am. The woman said yes it had been delivered and our appointment was still on. So we wait in a hot house again. May 24th husband gets off work early. He calls at 2:30 and we were still on schedule and fine. Then called at 4 and we were still on schedule but running a little late. No one had called us to tell us anything had changed or that there was a problem. Then it's 5:10 and I call and get Ruth on the phone. I ask her when she thinks they will get here so she calls dispatch to see. After being on hold for awhile, she said that dispatch can't come and they have to cancel and reschedule. She won't give us a manager phone number and it took me multiple times to get an email for a manager. We try to reschedule because at this point we can't do anything, but Saturday is completely booked. It's going to be 85 and 90 degrees during the weekend. At the end, I asked why are we being skipped because the technician took awhile at the place before us but then we get skipped and he will go to the next appointment. She curtly responded that "she would let the manager answer that question and that she couldn't answer it, have a nice day, good bye."It has been an entire week of trying to get appointments, cancellations, terrible communication, and no one taking responsibility. We have pets that are hot and panting and I am pregnant, yet this is not a big enough emergency to get someone out here and fix the issue within a week. We called Donny, the man who sold us the HVAC system and he helped us by forwarding an email (that we wrote) to managers. The email that Ruth gave us was incorrect and did not go through so Donny was working on it Friday night. May 25th Saturday. Donny got ahold of a general manager (Eric) and said that someone will be contacting us today. We get a phone call around 12:30 saying that someone would be at our house to diagnose the problem and check to make sure what is wrong. Alan came to our house within 40 minutes and looks at the unit. Alan was great and he wired the unit to get it to work until someone could come on Tuesday since the weather would be 90 degrees. May 26th air is working thanks to Alan overriding the system. May 27th same as day before. May 28th Alan comes around 10am. He installs the new part and it still isn't how it should be. He looks at our thermostat, takes it apart and pushes in one wire and it works. All this trouble for one wire. Honestly wish that we could have gotten things taken care of without going around and finding people higher up. It makes the process difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. Last summer the ac unit broke and after 1 and a half months of them coming out saying they had no idea what was wrong and saying a specialist will come by tomorrow and no one showing, not relay messages back and forth, ordering parts using snail mail, ordering the wrong parts, taking weeks to come out to fix it they finally got it working. They ended up needing to replace the entire inner parts of the unit. This summer the unit dies again and they come out to look at it and yet again, no idea what is wrong with it. Ummm your an ac mechanic. Isn't it your job to find out and fix it? Would it be ok to bring your car to a mechanic and they say they have no idea what is wrong with it? Yet again, I was told that someone can be here tomorrow and yet again no one shows; they never got the message so who knows when it will be fixed, maybe by December... I sincerely regret buying anything from them. Their customer service is abysmal at best, they can't communicate with each other, and their mechanics make some excuse as to not being able to fix anything. But what's most concerning above all else is the fact that the ac unit broke just after a year of getting pretty much new unit. I wish I could give them 0 stars. We awoke to a hotter than normal house on July 25th and, after walking outside, I noticed that the fan on the outside AC until wasn't working. I called Blue Dot at 7:10 AM and was told that someone would be out between 10 AM and 2 PM. All good. Around 1:30 PM, I hadn't heard from any technician so I called back. That's when I as told that nobody had scheduled my appointment. So I'd been sitting in an ever-warming house for 6 hours waiting on an appointment that was never scheduled. They said that they could have someone come out between 2 PM and 6 PM so I had them schedule the appointment. The technician arrived around 4:30 PM, I told him what was happening and that I was pretty sure the capacitor was the issue, and he checked the outside unit. He confirmed the capacitor was bad, replaced it in about 15 minutes, I paid, and he went on his way. My wife and I went to dinner and came home 3 hours later to it being 80 degrees in the house. I called Blue Dot back and they said that nobody was available until between 10 AM and 2 PM the next day. At this point, I'm fuming and decide to look further at the work order. It said that the technician replaced the capacitor, which he did, and checked the thermostat, which he certainly didn't. As a matter of fact, the only time that he spent on the house's main level, where the thermostat is, was to run my credit card for payment. I ran to Lowe's and bought a $20 thermostat to see if that could be the issue. Replaced the old thermostat with the new one and the AC kicked on as expected. Could've easily been figured out if the technician actually did what he said in the work order. To make matters worse, I was charged $322 for the replacement capacitor, labor not included. A quick search online shows that the capacitor costs anywhere from $15 to $35 so I was up-charged 10X - 20X on the replacement capacitor. That is insane. I guess I should consider myself lucky that the technician didn't check the thermostat because I probably would've been charged $200 - $300 for a replacement. I probably shouldn't have given the testing equipment that the technician left hanging on my outside until back to him before he left rather I should've sold it back to him for $400. My suggestion is to avoid Blue Dot at all costs. Poor appointment scheduling, lackluster/fraudulent description of work "performed" on work orders, and out of control pricing. read more

After reaching out to the corporate office, explaining the situation and our need for immediate resolution, we were put in touch with a wonderful representative. She helped navigate the entire situation, and worked with Blue Dot to install a new furnace in our home. She also worked to compensate us for the trouble. So while it was a painful process, in the end, Blue Dot's corporate office was able to resolve our issue to our satisfaction. UPDATED February 16, 2017: We just passed our third night without heat in our house after purchasing a new unit from Blue Dot in 2016. Blue Dot has sent two service technicians to our house, both of which diagnosed the same problem. We've been told multiple times by managers that we will receive a call with an update, but those calls have not come, forcing us to check back in. Our air conditioner's outside component (compressor) failed on the weekend. Blue Dot's website has a chat service that only set up a phone call (no appointment). Then a phone person claimed to set up an appointment for Monday. On Monday, I called the Blue Dot office to verify the appointment and was told the weekend phone people have no access to the appointment system so no appointment existed. That person gave me an appointment; the first two contacts were useless. My warranty covered the $119 "diagnostic" fee, the cost of having someone look at my system and figure out what's wrong. The tech looked at the compressor and said the capacitor looked bad. He replaced it by removing one screw for the strap that held the capacitor in place, then unplugged the four wires that were connected to the capacitor. He plugged the four wires onto the new capacitor and screwed the strap back in place. Actual labor took ten minutes at most. The new capacitor is a JARD Motor Run Capacitor, model 12789. Most unresponsive and dangerous company I have ever worked with. They no-showed for an appointment and when they finally arrived, I found out I had a gas leak for the last 2 months. They said that isn't good but common in this industry??? It's not okay to dismiss this flagrant error on their part when my family is in danger for months! Their installers never bothered to do a bubble test to make sure there were no leaks before they left. They also dropped the ball on having my new system inspected by the county so this could have been found sooner. Their QA person didn't even call after finding this out until I reached out first two days later! Their GM won't call and address this. This company truly does not care. It's all about the sale and then you can fend for yourself after that. BEWARE when choosing a HVAC company. read more

I agreed to pay $16,000 for a new heater/air conditioner system from this company. The following week a crew of young men showed up to do the work. These were young guys and I don't mean to criticize their work but there was no one to supervise what they were doing and it quickly turned into a debacle. At the end of the day they packed up their stuff and left as though the job was finished. They had to drill a hole into the foundation of my home to run a wire. They didn't bother to seal that hole so I had a hole in my foundation. When they were moving equipment in and out of the front door they managed to damage that door. Nice, pack up their stuff at the end of the day and pretend the job was done and not even bothering to inform me of the damage done. In order to fit the new equipment through the access space trimming and shelving needed to be removed. Again, at the end of the day these guys packed up and left making no arrangements with me to get that taken care of. This was strictly amateur hour. Dealing with office management was no better. Trying to get this straightened out, I was made to feel like I was the one doing something wrong here. Very frustrating. It has been more than three weeks now. The foundation was sealed and the trim replaced. The door is still an issue. They tried to buy me off by offering me $300. $300 can hardly get a new door knob. Thanks for your concern about that Blue Dot. These were only the glaring issues. God only knows what I will face in the future dealing with this system. I agree with all of the other one star reviews here. Management is subpar and the whole business model they use is designed to get you to pay the highest premiums and use the cheapest way possible to do the actual job. A representative from Blue Dot called me to make an appointment for my final service visit which was part of a maintenance plan on my furnace. The technician arrived to my house later than expected and went to the basement to perform the maintenance. He asked me to turn up my thermostat to 75 so he could check how the furnace was operating. After approximately thirty minutes, he called me down to the basement and showed me some parts of the furnace which were getting "old". He asked me how old the furnace was - 19 years - and told me it was time to consider a new one. He offered to call an associate who could come to the house that night to price a new furnace. I denied, and said that I would research it. The technician told me I could turn the temperature back down and he packed up and left. Thirty minutes later, I noticed how warm the house was getting - even though I had turned the thermostat back down, the furnace did not shut off. The temperature climbed to 76. I called Blue Dot, and they said they would send someone back out before 10p to fix the problem. A technician called an hour later to say he could not make it to the house that evening, and could arrive at 8 the next morning (which would require me to be late to work and my daughter late to school). I called Blue Dot back who said it would be impossible to send anyone over to the house that night. It was getting so warm in the house, I called my neighbor to help me fix the problem. We found a misplaced wire which was preventing the furnace from turning off, thus overriding the thermostat. It was an easy fix. The technician may have made a mistake; however, it appeared to take some effort to jam the wire in position to prevent the furnace from turning off. The house slowly cooled down overnight. I do NOT want my service contract renewed. read more

If I could give no stars I would. My furnace went up the night before so I called them, BIG MISTAKE!!! The "tech" came out (a hour late) and looked at my furnace and promptly told me without even looking at the name plate and date of install that "You should start looking into buying a new unit". This was an instant red flag as the unit was manufactured in 2016!!! Not to mention it wasn't used until 2017! (Didn't fully move into new home until early 2017). I laughed as I watched him attempt whatever it was that he was calling a repair while I watched YouTube behind him watching repairs made in less than 10 minutes. He never even diagnosed it, he just told me I needed a new unit and called another clown to come to my home to sell me a new unit to replace my 5 1/2 year old unit (this bozo showed up and hour late as well and wondered why I wouldn't open my door to him at 7pm while eating dinner with my family). Surprisingly I qualified for a discount to get my new furnace for $5800!! But silly me I just went to the local hvac supply store and purchased a pressure switch for $10 and fixed the unit myself!! I'm an electrician but hvac sorta confused me at first, YouTube, your instruction manual to identify the error code and your local hvac supply store workers will help you avoid scam artists like this. And if you aren't mechanically inclined call a local company that actually tries to service and repair not sucker hard working people into unit replacements. read more

I'm a renter. The 2 year old HVAC system purchased, warranted, and maintained by Blue Dot has shutoff without apparent reason more than a dozen times over the past three months. Blue Dot technicians came out twice, both times stating that there was nothing wrong with the system. On the first visit, during the first cold snap in September, the technician flipped the breaker (same breakers I'd flipped for 10 hours) and the system came back on and he deduced that the thermostat was bad. Hrmm....don't think so, but I managed to get BGE to replace the thermostat anyhow. That lasted a couple months (mostly AC work after that) but the problem returned when we turned the heat back on. The second visit took about 6 hours for response and resulted in a tech saying nothing wrong with the system and that he checked all of the connections. All of them? Yep, ALL of them. Well, I asked him to replace the safety switch (disconnected?) since he hadn't fixed anything and the problem was most certainly going to occur again...I just didn't know it would be 6 hours later. The third visit took forever and I suspect they wanted us to die (17deg outside) so they wouldn't have to support the warranty...48 hours for emergency response! They said the technician will be there between 9PM and 1AM...at midnight I call and they say the tech will be there as soon as the current call is over and it isn't even 1AM yet. At 1AM, the technician is still out and there is no ETA. At 2AM, the technician is in the hospital and there is no one available. WTH? I call bull-crap. Finally, after 15 calls to Blue Dot, a supervisory field technician arrives two days later at 11AM. This tech spends about an hour going over the system, inside and out, and then tells me that he found loose connections throughout the system. The culprit was a loose connection on the heater circuit breaker; this heated up while running the heater, causing the breaker to trip. He said he tightened up all the connections (like the last guy?) and things should be fine now. When he left, I had to turn on the AC. Warranty roulette with Blue Dot. Look elsewhere. read more

Blue dot claims that they can repair systems, but for us they sent someone out to "service our heat pump system". That is all just smoke and mirrors. The tech came out, looked at our system and promptly declared it was 10 years old and needed to be replaced. They then arranged to send a sales person out that evening. The sales guy came out to sell us a system for $16k but found a way to reduce it to $12k. What a deal, except that we wanted a second opinion and SM Mechanical came out took a look at the system and realized that there was a bad fuse on the unit that They replaced for $400. Blue dot has Refused so far to refund the service visit fee off $119 that they charged which was just a bait and switch sales call. I don't mind paying for a technician to come out and provide service, but I am not paying for someone just to send another sales guy out especially when a competent repair person can find the issue. I read some good reviews on Yelp, so I thought I'd give these guys a try. I scheduled a tune-up of our heating system. First off, they couldn't give me a time they would come, just a date. Anytime that day I had to be available. First red flag. Second, they charged my credit card before they had done any work. Second red flag. So I called them the day of the appointment at 9 am, and I was third on the HVAC tech's list of customers. No estimate of when the arrive. I called again at noon, 3, and 5, and I was still third on their list. I never got a call saying what was up. And I waited around all day. That's the customer service I got from Blue Dot. Yeah I have to give it 1 star and here's why, their prices are more than twice what other people charge. My furnace crapped out and would only blow cold air. After calling a few other places I came across Blue Dot they promised to come out immediately and ONLY charge me an $82 assessment fee, that wasn't waived even if I went through with service. I reluctantly said ok because there was no one else available. The guy came out and said that it was a bad control board and that he needed to order the part and that it would be in Monday or Tuesday (he came on a Friday evening). Fast forward to Wednesday, no call, no estimate, no nothing. I call Blue Dot and they explain that they tried to call and left a message, I didn't have a message, and then changed that to oh well the part just came in today. Ok, so I make an appt with them to come out and replace the control board, at the end of the call I ask what the estimate for the job will be, the girl kindly tells me that the tech put an estimate down of $748.00, I am going to let that sink in for a minute, $748.00. I said that sounds very high and I would like to know how much the part costs and the breakdown of the charges, the girl tells me that she cannot do that right now and needs to confirm the price of the job with the service department in the morning, ok let's do that. In the meantime I took to the glorious world wide web to see what this control board actually costs. I have a Goodman Furnace (Model GKS90703BXAE) and after a little digging I found the control card (Part # 0130F00005S) and it was anywhere from $74-80 depending on where I wanted to order it. Surely Blue Dot gets wholesale prices that are cheaper than what I can get. I thought to myself what is going on here, how can these people charge this much for something like this and gouge people when they need heat, it's completely unacceptable. In the morning I called 3 other places, told them what was wrong, and the situation and they all said it would be a max of $300 to repair. So I call Blue Dot and tell the guy I spoke to my issue and he repeats the job will cost $748.00, when I challenged that price he said that a supervisor would call me. So about an hour later Mark from Blue Dot calls, I tell him my situation and ask him what's the deal, how can they charge that much more and I want to know the breakdown of the charges. Immediately he goes into a long answer about how its complicated and there are job codes and then says that the tech made a mistake in billing the job and the actual total is $451.00. Ok so this tech just made a $300 mistake. What if I had just paid the bill and had this fixed? Would they have noticed this and refunded my money? More than likely not. When I informed Mike of the price charged by other businesses in the area, he just said ok, so I went ahead and cancelled the appointment because I can't justify spending an extra $150 for no added value. In conclusion, there is absolutely no way that I could recommend this business to anyone and I would encourage people to stay away from these people. Their prices are too high and they evade when you ask for a breakdown of estimate charges. Quite honestly they will rip you off, go elsewhere. UPDATE: I called someone else that was recommended to me by a friend. He came out and looked at the problem and determined that one of my tenants put the air filter in backwards to the furnace couldn't move air properly which caused the high heat switch to trip. Between putting the filter in the correct way and resetting all the switches he charged me $135. Calling Blue Dot to let them know that their diagnosis of the problem was wildly off. read more

Short Summary: For them to send a uniformed technician out to your home happens very fast, if not on the same day, friendly call center folks, technicians, and pretty much everyone I've interacted from Blue Dot. Long Version: Our Heat Pump System is getting up there in age and I've had some issues during the winter and the summer. I have had both Calvin M. and Jim/James G as service technicians to come over and diagnose what the problems were. On both instances it was a $82 diagnosis/assessment fee that could be waived if one signs up for their maintenance plan or proceed with the install with them. Both Calvin and Jim are extremely professional and knowledgeable in their craft; they were able to answer all of my questions patiently, and believe me, I had a lot. They also spent the time testing out what was wrong and left me a detailed sheet of what they thought was going on. Bill S. the Estimator/Comfort Specialist was great as well. We went over 3 different brands of heat pump as well as a total of 5 different options. Just like their Service Technicians, Bill was knowledgeable and answered almost all of my questions (again, I had quite a bit). From their call center representatives, who always greet you with "My name is _______ how can I provide you with excellent service today?" to their price estimators, to their service technicians to their supervisor (Murray) who would follow up with the appointment with a phone call, they truly do provide you with excellent service. Prices are competitive but not the cheapest by any means since they provide you with a standard labor warranty which is often short or non-existent for the mom and pop shops. If I have issues in the future I will definitely give Blue Dot a call and I'd recommend them to my family and friends. read more

If you don't feel like reading all of this, just know this: Blue Dot was a waste of my money and time and they are also unpleasant. I was given a lot of corporate bureaucratic BS from them -- no one knowing what the other person is saying or doing. Any person I know, I would recommend they go with of licensed, self-owned or small business professionals. I had that experience with FutureTech HVAC - honest work at a fair price. My experience with Blue Dot was horrific. As a corporation, NO ONE takes responsibility for what they think someone else did wrong. Mary, the lady who scheduled me for my job in Maryland, quoted me a rather high price to do an inspection but also told me that one thing I knew I needed (installing a filter) could be done for a nominal amount (about $20) more. The technician, Dwayne Rust, who came spent about 10 minutes looking at my furnace and running some diagnostics, then explained two different items he saw wrong (rusted exhaust piping and rusted AC coil that was leaking Freon). I told him I also wanted to have the filter placed. He quoted me no prices and told me someone else would come to take about esitmates (a strange set-up, if you ask me). That second person was supposed to come 'witin the hour'. When that person, George, finally arrived two hours later, all he wanted to due was give me a quote for replacing my entire furnace. He had no quotes for the repairs. The most importnat one -- the leaking exhaust piping, that theoretically could leak CO -- he said they would not even do if I was not getting a new furnace installed. The two technicians clearly had not spoken to each other. I never got a written estimate from George. However, he did point out that Dwayne Rust had written down a number of things that he had not actually spoken with me about and had not explained (like what an inducer motor and what was wrong with mine). I did get a chance to speak with Dwayne Rust again. When I explained the interaction I had with George, he handily admitted that George was probably just trying to upsell me (what kind of company has employees that know that of their fellow employees?!!). Another corporate person called me and took my story, after I completed a negative patient experience survey, but speaking with her, Katie, was also wholy sickening. I almost feel as if she wanted to leave me feeling candidly (like Dwayne) that I had been screwed by their system and and they had no intention of doing right be me. I also did get to speak with Mary, the scheduler, one last time. I asked her if she would recommend Blue Dot to her sister or mother or anyone else she cared about. She was not able to answer that question. And there you have it. read more

Update: Later same day, I get a call from Mike at Blue Dot. He's fixing my thermostat issue and actually apologized for his late technician... Seemed like he really cared (I can be a sucker, so take that with a grain of salt). But he didn't have to do that. Most companies now adays will take cash in hand and leave you in the dust. I'm totally impressed with this move, so I've upped my stars and decided that the jury is still out. Of course I believe in second chances! Original Review: So... An hour and a half AFTER the 4 HOUR window that Blue Dot scheduled for arrival, here comes my technician. He takes one look at my newly installed thermostat (thank you to the yahoos at Comcast) and tells me it's wired wrong and would I like him to fix it? I said yes please! He then states that that will cost an ADDITIONAL $250! Oh by the way, he doesn't do duct work either (I had asked him about some noise one of my vents was making). So, I paid $82 for this guy to tell me that he doesn't do duct work and that my thermostat was wired wrong and I showed him the door. Called Arundel Heating and cooling and for $250 they can install a programmable thermostat (inlcuding a new thermostat, which the Blue Dot guy said would be ANOTHER 200 if I wanted to replace) AND they do duct work. My AC broke on a Monday I called for service the technician arrived 2 hours outside the response window I was given,after diagnosing the problem he said parts will be ordered and shipped overnight. I waited for 24hrs but didn't hear anything back from blue dot,so I called back but the representative was unable to tell me when my parts will be installed because she did not know when my parts will arrive. I told her that I was told that the parts will be ordered overnight,but she wasn't able to give me a response. I waited until Thursday after not hearing back from anyone and I was told that my parts will not arrive until next Wednesday,I feel like I have been scammed because I was charged over $700 for the job and I paid a down payment of over $200 and I am now being given the run around.This experienvelope is a nightmare. read more
