We did a scuba and boat tour with blue dolphin charters and it was AWESOME. The captain and crew were GREAT! They were really nice and easy to get a long with. Ben was our scuba instructor. It was my first time scuba diving and he did a good job giving me a crash course of what to expect and what I need to do. He guided me throughout the dive and checked on me frequently. At times, I panicked a little if I didn't see him or my friend. But, he was very REASSURING. The two other crew members were Danny and Sully. They were great and super friendly too. I got in trouble a few times from Danny because I wasn't holding on to the railing while taking pictures (which is one of their rules). But he was really nice about it and just wanted everyone to be safe. The staff also frequently offer to take pictures of you and your family and friends. They don't make it awkward for anyone. We saw Dolphins, whales, and turtles! There were so much Dolphins that I truly contemplated about jumping off the boat to swim with them. Overall, It was a GREAT experience. I couldn't believe that we were able to scuba dive and do a boat tour to napali coast too. AND, They fed us and provided drinks. But, honestly their staff is so awesome that it makes a BIG DIFFERENCE in your experience :) I would recommend this business to everyone!! It's a long boat ride. I think we were out 5 hours. It's a pretty big boat and only 2 people got sick. The staff is super friendly and constantly walked around the boat collecting trash, offering food and drink, talking with everyone. There was also a guy on the mic giving us a history lesson. It was a really nice experience. We were served fruit, oatmeal and fresh cinnamon buns for breakfast. We stopped to see the biggest pod of DOLPHINS I've ever seen. This was the first time I saw baby dolphins!!!!! Yes! We saw a few babies!!! So cool! Then we continued down the coast where you could jump in. You can snorkel or scuba if you like. Snorkeling would have been just fine since it wasn't very deep and not the best scuba diving. They feed the fish so a lot came by to say hello. There was also a turtle. I saw a crown of thorns starfish and an eel. Lunch was deli meat and big slices of bread. There was lettuce, tomato and a few different condiments. There was also veggies and dip. Let's not forget the cookies :). They also offered beer, wine and mixed drinks. All included. I highly recommend this experience. Just prepare yourself if you get sea sick. read more

We were able to snorkel the most beautiful reef we have ever seen (and we're from Florida). The catamaran has a slide that was our daughter's favorite part. During our honeymoon in Hawaii last week my husband and I took the NaPali coast catamaran tour with Blue Dolphin. This was one of the best things we did on the trip and I'm still talking about it. I'll tell you why this tour is so spectacular. 1. Tour of the NaPali coast is beautiful from the water. You can see so much coastline, valleys, waterfalls on this tour. We saw schools of dolphins and several turtles immediately upon arriving at the coastline. During the tour we saw probably 6 schools of dolphins and they would swim along the boat sometimes spinning and doing tricks. 2. The crew on the catamaran was amazing. I scuba dived with John who was very nice to me. I liked that it was a small group of 3 scuba divers; not crowded compared to other dive companies. We noticed that we recieved incredible service from each crew member. They served everyone with a smile and enthusiasm. They engaged the guests in conversation and were attentive to peoples needs. They worked hard the entire tour and I'm sure before and after to prepare for the tour. If you go out with them, bring cash because you will want to tip them well for their hard work. 3. The Blue Dolphin catamaran was a great value for the money paid. The excursion is a half day of fun and entertainment. They served breakfast of fruit and cinnamon rolls. There were teas, juices, soda, and water served all throughout the day. After snorkeling/swimming/scuba diving they start serving Mai Tais, beers, and drinks. (Bring your ID if you look young!) Then they served a lunch of sandwiches, pasta salad, and homemade cookies. The crew was so attentive in serving and refilling anytime someones drink was empty! Thanks Blue Dolphin for an awesome day! Three stars because the staff was really nice and helpful. I sail on the lake, I ride huge and fast roller coasters and CGI rides, I even did the helicopter tour of the Na Pali Coast but for some odd reason I could not stoping puking on the boat-at least 6x! The waves were choppy and the captain rode fast! I think there should be a sort of 1-10 rating on the water conditions that they disclose before you go out to sea. We heard that last week 15 out of 17 people were sea sick on this boat. So it does happen quite often. The alcoholic drinks aren't served till dinner -about halfway in. They had cookies and candy for dessert. Pork, fish and salad for dinner. If you the helicopter tour -pass on this! read more

My husband and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon back in November and decided to take a tour of the Na Pali Coast with Blue Dolphin. I'm not exaggerating, it was one of the best days of our lives. I can't believe I'm just now getting around to leaving a review. We did the morning snorkeling tour and highly recommend it. The captain (I want to say it was Captain Joe?) and crew were friendly and welcoming, made an effort to talk to everyone on the tour, were constantly making sure everyone was safe, and offered to take all the pictures and videos you could ask for. The food was delicious and the views were amazing. Not to mention all the dolphin sightings! The tour started off with a boat ride to the snorkeling spot. On the way there, we were treated to warm fluffy cinnamon rolls, tea, coffee, and water, and saw a pod of dolphins. Talk about a great start to the morning! Once we got to the spot, we snorkeled and swam for about an hour or so, and saw tons of fish and even a turtle. After getting back on the boat, we made our way to the Na Pali Coast. During the ride, lunch and drinks were served (and we saw dolphins AGAIN). Lunch included bottomless mai tais, Maui Brewing Co. beer, juices, sodas, fresh fruit and a make your own sandwich bar with fresh bread and assorted condiments, meats, and cheeses. I cannot stress enough how delicious both breakfast and lunch were. We were so lucky with the weather in November. It was sunny and the water was fairly calm. When we got to the Na Pali Coast, the captain kept saying this never happens during that time of year, and was able to get us pretty close up for some amazing views. He entertained us with stories about the island while we took in the sights and sipped on our drinks. On the way back, he continued to tell us stories and played the song from the Disney movie Moana because he thought the dolphins liked it. I thought he was kidding, and maybe he was and it was just luck, but the dolphins showed up! It was such a beautiful and magical day and I feel so lucky to have experienced it with my husband. We did a Na'Pali coast sunset tour and thought it was definitely worth the trip. The morning of our cruise, we stopped in Port Allen where all the boat operators seem to have offices and checked them out. Blue Dolphin was the only one who could take us same day with no advanced reservation. We went in early January with a rough sea. The boat crew was great about it; before we left the office they offered refunds for anyone who didn't think they could stomach the trip. We forged ahead since it was our last day in Kauai and our only chance. That morning we drove through Waimea canyon to the lookout and viewed the coast from the land, but we wanted to see it by sea as well. The land trip may be a good alternative if you are prone to seasickness (but it's quite a windy road). Anyhow, once at sea they took it slow to give folks some time to adjust. Then we proceeded at a decent pace to the coast listening to random bits of trivia and then got to view the mountains and caves from the sea. It really is worth seeing. At the halfway point (3.5 hrs roundtrip) they open the bar and start the pupus. Prior to this they were passing around soft-drinks and family style pretzels from a bag to keep everyone hydrated and calm any borderline stomachs. But when we turned to come back we found out how rough the sea really was. The pupu smell with the rocking and rolling was enough to get me a bit nauseous, but it passed quickly. Others weren't so lucky and started making their way to the back of the boat. We almost had the whole upper deck to ourselves. Anyhow, I imagine on a calm day this would be a really nice trip for everyone. I'm not taking points off due to the weather (3 stars is a good review). I think they were a good, fun boat crew and didn't bother with any of the overbearing fun-go-go--fun-fun some tour operators think people enjoy. They seemed like normal well adjusted people and wandered around the boat chatting with people, passing out drinks, and making sure everyone had a good time. They saw some whales spouting and detoured a little to get us closer, but we didn't see much in the way of whales -- we were really there for the coast. read more

We took the All day tour to the Na Pali Coast and then over to Niihau ( The forbidden island) where we did some snorkeling in some of the best waters I have seen in the area. We saw sea turtles, monk seals, blue nose and spinner Dolphins, and of course lots of fish! They put the bow of the boat under a waterfall for those who wanted a COLD shower. The crew were great and very patient when dealing with some of the idiots that would not listen to the safety warnings... I have been on boats since I was a teen and seen many accidents because people didn't listen. They caprine was friendly and funny, although the jokes could use a bit of work... Lol The breakfast was fruit and cinnamon rolls and there was no shortage of fruit drinks and water. The lunch was sandwiches and potato/macaroni salad (all very good). After you are done with the snorkeling the bar is OPEN. Beer and rum.... You are at sea so go easy if you get motion sickness. There were about 10-12 people in the back of the boat who were not enjoying the ride after enjoying too many drinks. If you can do it, totally worth every penny! We are here for another 10 days and are looking to take one of their other tours. read more

A professional company delivering exactly what it says on the tin. My only reservation would be that its main competitor, "Andy", actually puts up a decent sized sail and seems to sail their boat - as a sailor, that would have been my preference, I prefer the motion of a boat under sail than engine. But it probably won't make a difference for most people, and I thought "Andy" had a more boisterous, holiday camp feel than the serious but confidence-building style of Larry. Beginners might also find the "leaning" feel of a catamaran under sail a bit stressful, in which case Blue Dolphin is the better choice. The boats are well designed: catamarans with a token mast and "sail" (really more like a flag that they hoist at Napali), wide, with big, clean toilets (big enough to get changed in quickly), and a grippy floor and plenty of things to grab on everywhere. There's two floors, the top floor is good for a view and a nice seat, the bottom one for sitting in the shade of the boat or jumping with the waves at the front. They cruise at 17 knots and the trip is 70 miles (didn't catch if these were nautical). The food is what is described: fresh baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast, sandwiches with 3-4 cold meats and various fillings for lunch, with a mix of soft drinks and, for lunch, beer and mai tais. I quite enjoyed it, and the cookies. Safety is taken seriously, the boat is well equipped, and the captain knew how to reassure a tourist audience whilst making sure they were well informed on what to do. The crew also kept a sharp eye - my descending the steps facing outwards (a big no-no for Captain Larry) was detected within a half second, and they did careful headcounts after the snorkel (during which a crew member kept watch on a surfboard). The crew was professional, polite and effective throughout. The show itself is SO worth it. The coast is unlike anything I've seen before travelling in four continents - even the most striking parts of Australia are nothing like that moody, sulky, brutal mountain shaped by millenia of rain and crashing Pacific waves. There are so many whales I actually managed a dozen decent shots (something I've never managed before) and the boat plays with dolphins often. The snorkeling spot was good; there were turtles but I think they fled when we entered the water. Lastly, sea sickness. Well, the Napali coast seems like a rough place to go if you have no previous boating experience. Waves are a good 2m high, and can get much bigger (I think I heard "60 feet" but that sounds a bit big). That takes care of your "big, but regular motion" which will be a problem for people who have never been on a boat before. The return trip is through a choppy section (about 30 minutes) where the problem is very irregular waves coming from several directions making the bounce pattern irregular (if smaller), which seems to have triggered the next experience level to feel unwell. Out of my group, those who had previously swam in the sea (proper open ocean swimming, not dipped) and those with sailing experience were fine, the rest felt sick or in two cases were actually sick. At the same time, most people were absolutely fine and there was a 2 year old baby running around the front unconcerned by the fact the world was going up and down. So, there's no other way to know than by trying it, but with maybe 5-7 people out of 40 or so throwing up, don't worry, the odds are in your favour. They hand out really nice customized plastic sick bags which seemed easy enough to use. Before going, I thought the fee was steep, but you do get your money's worth and it is hard work for the crew. Worth a shot if you don't fancy the helicopter. read more

I generally dislike excursions that herd tourists like cattle and force me to remain in awkwardly close quarters with strangers for an extended period of time. I'm a gal who likes her space. But as my family really wanted me to experience the Na'Pali Coast as they had in the past, I was a good sport and joined them on an early morning tour. You guys, I am SO glad I did. Captain Joe, Quinn, and Dane were the greatest crew I could have hoped for. I always feel bad for guides that have to repeat themselves day in and out, filling tourists in on all the history and details of the same places they see every day of the week, but Captain Joe was energetic, happy to humor any/all questons, and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself. (Quite frankly, I would be, too, if my Monday morning "commute" was boating up the gorgeous Na'Pali Coast, eating doughnuts for breakfast whilst jamming to island tunes. Screw rainy Seattle traffic and I5, I'm becoming a boat captain in Hawaii.) Admittedly, I roll my eyes when I read pitches promising me "Breathtaking views!" "Lifelong memories!" and "Unbelievable sights!" In this case, my friends, there was zero exaggeration. We went out on a perfect, beautiful day, and the landscape of the coast was unreal. Shimmering waterfalls, bright aqua and cerulean waters, silvery sandy beaches, and lush foliage. The sunlight streaming through the canyons creating bright rays and rainbows was utterly ethereal. We saw dolphins, a sea turtle, AND we were blessed with witnessing a humpback whale despite it being very early in the season! Truly incredible. (...was also treated to an unexpected sighting of a quite naked swimmer standing ashore, bahhahaaa. Apparently everyone was having a grand time that day.) When everyone went snorkeling I opted to just swim off on my own, kicking around with all kinds of tropical fish in warm, crystal clear aquamarine water. Despite all the happy, loud folks nearby, I've never felt so at peace. (Salt water heals everything, they say...) Didn't go down the slide, but perhaps next time. This tour was phenomenal. I was so lost in my own world, tuning everyone out, taking in the beauty of the Na'Pali Coast, that I took barely any photos and didn't speak much to anyone for the majority of the outing. Well. Until the very end, when I had a boatload of rum in me... On that note, MAJOR props to Quinn and Dane. They worked their butts off to make sure everyone was safe, having fun, and taken care of. They also served our refreshments, snacks, our breakfast and lunch, and even acted as bartenders. They do it all. Genuinely appreciated all their effort and great attitudes. TLDR; if you're agonizing over which charter to book your outing with, do yourself a favor and just go with Blue Dolphin. Along with the natural splendor and beauty of the Na'Pali Coast, the crew is really what made this so enjoyable, so be sure to give them many thanks and "treasure" if you have the pleasure of being tended by them! PS - We did have a wee crisis (no pun intended) when we ran entirely out of toilet paper. But fear not -- Captain Joe pulled up to another vessel and "borrowed" some. Ha! This is a review for the 5 hour raft adventure. My boyfriend and I had a blast on a raft tour on Oahu, and i had been on multiple other rafts as well. This was the worst. And extra star for the crew who were funny and nice, but safety is clearly not a priority here. They over load the raft which is a 24ft, 16 people max. You have no seats, you hold onto a rope on the side. When I saw the boat, knowing the sizable surf, I almost didn't go. You see, I work in risk management. I knew we had too much weight for that boat, and it was not appropriate for the distance we were going to travel. I decided to go anyways, upon assurances from the captain. Sure, the navy seals use these boats, but I'm not a navy seal, I'm a cubicle dweller. So to start, I was skeptical. Other safety related issues: nothing keeping us in the boat expect a rope that we were supposed to keep our feet under, and our hands to hold on. As the captain went full throttle into waves. When I expressed concern, the response was "the sea is super calm right now" to which I finally responded... that's not helping to the agreement of 5 others who would not speak up, but told me personally that they were not comfortable. Overall, we were left completely sore, with hand injuries. We got to see na pali and some caves which were great, but not worth the pounding that our bodies took, and being terrified for 5hours. I recommend this for those who are looking for a not so safe way to explore the coast. I recommend everyone else get the catamaran, or embark from a boat on the north shore. read more

We have taken this cruise several times, and it is definitely a must do excursion when visiting the island. Christian has great knowledge about the area and filled us with interesting facts about Niihau. Overall, we had a wonderful time on our sunset dinner cruise. We've been on many morning sail and snorkel tours, but the views and sunlight on the NaPali coastline is exceptional in the afternoon. Captain Chad is a local Waimea guy and is very knowledgeable about the boat and island history - was informative, but also fun. Food and drinks were plentiful and yummy, and while this is a dinner cruise, it can also be an active adventure - we spent most of our time enjoying the ride on the bow and got wet standing under 2 waterfalls that other tour boats shied away from. The weather was perfect, with calm seas, and we went further up the coast than usual - past Kalalau Valley to where we could see Ke'e Beach. My family and I had a great experience with this charter company. In fact it's our second time using them! We toured the beautiful napli coastline and got to snorkel for about an hour and see some amazing marine life. The captain shared his knowledge of the people and the island as we traveling along the coast. The crew was incredibly accommodating since we have a few in our party that we're vegetarian and gluten free. They truly went above and beyond, even teaching someone in our party how to swim for the first time in her 40+ year of life. It was amazing to see the care and patience they had with her, it even brought her to tears being able to swim for the first time. We had a great experience in the blue dolphin charter NaPali coast boat tour including snorkeling . The crew with Roy as the captain were very hospitable and professional .. My daughter is hearing impaired with bilateral cochlear implants which she had to remove while snorkeling that led to challenges since she could Not hear the instructions and had to rely on lip reading . However the crew was very helpful and were with her all through her snorkeling adventure and made sure she had fun safely. In the end , she thanked the guy and said " she had fun"... Also they made sure to get us a very healthy and tasty vegetarian wrap ( we are vegetarians ) . Overall it was a great experience and I definitely would recommend this to folks who are planning a trip to Kauai .. read more

Great tour with fantastic crew! Captain Joe was fun, professional, and informative. The crew was so helpful and friendly and kept the vibe positive even when we had some mechanical issues that made for a longer than expected return trip. Saw a lot of fish while snorkeling, and I missed it but there was a sea turtle floating around us too! Plenty of amazing views, good food available, and no shortage of Mai Tais and Maui Brews! A lot of people were hit by the motion sickness on the way back but the crew did what they could to try to comfort them, ice and crackers and plenty of "aloha bags" were being passed around. If you get sea sick this probably is not the right trip for you, if you are comfortable on a boat, and with plenty of waves and bumps, don't miss this trip with the Blue Dolphin crew! read more
