I absolutely LOVEE this place! Love petting the goats as well, it's honestly a great place for people of any age! I'm 21 and have thoroughly enjoyed the area twice now. The employees are also very friendly, they will walk around and give you random fun facts on whatever gems you've collected, very knowledgeable! It's awesome. Who knew about this little hidden gem (pun intended) in Cary! Because I certainly didn't! What a wonderful place to go with your children for a family experience. Or go with some friends to pan for gems. Or just go by yourself and relax while you sort through crystals? I went with my sister and we got the collectors bucket, the mega load bucket, and a jackpot bucket. I loved the collectors bucket. Mostly tumbled gems, some nice carved stones, great bucket if you're not into raw stones. The mega bucket had so many gems to sort through! If you're not the best as determining raw crystals (such as sapphire or ruby) from plain rocks, this bucket can be a little frustrating as it's made with gravel rather than sand. The jackpot bucket was great too! My sisters excitement when she found the megalodon tooth was well worth it! The staff were wonderful! So friendly and would walk by and tell us about the different stones we had found so far. This is definitely a beautiful, relaxing, family friendly place that is worth a visit! read more

This is such a special treat for people of all ages! Ample parking, affordable entertainment, and plenty of space for whatever you plan to do while you visit. We checked this out on a chilly December day, and we were pleased by the customer service (very friendly staff) and the full and operational heaters to keep us warm while in the sluice. My kids both loved this, but it was genuinely fun for all of us. We bought two of the $18 bags, and the kids spent about an hour emptying them in search of gems. We found lots of beautiful stones that now get sorted and played with a lot at home. We've been to several gemstone panning areas and this is one of the best. It's nice that they have a bunch of activities for children to do . It's even better for adults that are able to work at the flumes without constant Interruption from the kids that are off playing in the playground or with the petting zoo. Reasonably priced with a pretty good seating of gemstone per bucket . We generally spent several hours going through our bucket . The staff is very friendly and willing to look at your find to talk about what you've likely discovered . Right now they're giving a free geode with a purchase and they have a ratcheting piston that you can use to break it . Extremely friendly staff and we were absolutely amazed by how many gems we got for the price! We got over a pound out of their $20 bucket but their cheapest option was only $9, and for just $8 the kids were able to go in with their goats, play on their ninja course playgrounds, and explore their cave adventure! Really nothing like it in the area and they've been open 30 years and been owned by 3 generations of the same family which is so rare to see these days! read more

Gemstone panning. Who'd have thought? Sharing space with Natural Stone Sculptures & Gardens, Blue Diamond lets you pan for gemstones, minerals and fossils just like the miners of old. They have quite a nice set up here. A small tent on the cooler days (open air during the summers) with the sluicer and its flowing water, the sorting pan and bags of rocks for purchase that you use to find your own minerals, fossils and gems. Blue Diamond looks like it would be both fun and relaxing, oddly enough. The staff will explain what to do but let you experience it, help you spot the mica, fools gold, quartz, fossils and arrowheads, and you can keep your stash. There's tea and coffee available as well as guided tours of the Japanese garden. And if you need more information, Blue Diamond has a museum, a tiny building displaying stones from various places around the world. The museum has a pretty impressive collection of arrowheads. If you have any interest in NC geologic history, or want an interactive educational experience, this spot is small enough to do it without spending the entire day. read more

Cub Scout troop 320 came for a the morning. Everyone had a fun time. We found a lot of small sharks teeth but two decent sized teeth. We found may prices of minerals and gems. Since we had a large group took awhile to wait for the lady to help identify the different ones. We actually waited over an hour. But she said she was working on a huge hangover. Eh, I like the idea and the attempt seems good but it seems way overpriced for what you get. Had been to two other similar places in the past and the kids would get a big bucket of dirt with gems inside for $9-$10. Here you get a bag of dirt for $18. The gems weren't as good as the other places either. Just overall it was a disappointment and I'd likely look for another option in the future. read more

The hidden gem of Apex! We always have fun mining for fossils and gemstones. It's not just that the mining bags are packed with treasures, but they teach the kids (and adults) about the fossils/stones too! These guys know their stuff! Wonderful place to go with gem bags and fossil bags. The small gift shop shows off larger specimens and has tumbled rocks. Lots of local pieces. Both flumes are chlorinated and the area is really nice, very much like a garden. Friendly and generous employees. The girls both had lots of fun and played in the water almost as much as they looked for gems. read more
