Our waiter, Dennis, was kind, knowledgeable, and forthcoming. The kitchen was slightly backup and wasn't taking orders when we were seated. He informed us but assured us our drink service was would not be affected. His recommendation of the Jackson Slappin pankcakes were right on point. The cheese grits were some of the best I've had. Oh and the skillet potatoes were straight from your mama's kitchen. Dennis was very accommodating to our request and did everything with supreme professionalism and great customer service. Although we waited just a little while to be seated ( we had reservations, I highly suggest you do too), it was worth it. The vibe was chill and the music was great! I didn't know whether to eat or dance to the great R &B being played. I appreciate that they validate parking. I was almost charged $15 to park down the street. I'm glad I waited and parked in the restaurant garage. I only paid $3 after they gave me a sticker to validate. The meal price was average for brunch, but the serving size was worth it. They feature an elevated outdoor patio urban appeal and a cozy basement for those who wanna hideout. The Flatiron is perfect for date night, a casual lunch, and of course for your morning coffee. It's not just the excellent coffee products and baked goods (best of any baked goods that I have eaten in any coffee shop) but how the staff truly connects with its customers. I have always felt they are sincerely interested in me and all of their customers. A visit to Allez Cafe is an uplifting experience and truly an unusual experience. Breakfast Apparently Got a Publicist…read more Allez Café is what happens when breakfast stops phoning it in and starts dressing like it has reservations somewhere afterward. The smoked salmon breakfast plate was ridiculously good. Silky smoked salmon, crisp cucumber, capers, pickled onions, fresh herbs, and these spectacular slices of watermelon radish, which I initially identified by their scientific name: the watermelon thingy. The whole plate is a collision of rich, salty, tart, fresh and crunchy. Somehow everybody survives. And it's beautiful. Almost annoyingly beautiful. This is breakfast that knows it photographs well. The salmon is gorgeous, the herbs are scattered just so, and the watermelon radish shows up dressed like it's attending the Met Gala. Then there's the avocado breakfast plate. Avocado has become so ubiquitous that it practically needs its own congressional district, but Allez reminds you why we became obsessed with the stuff in the first place. Creamy, fresh avocado paired with their excellent bread and thoughtfully chosen accompaniments turns something familiar into something memorable. Simple ingredients, creatively assembled, without some chef trying to prove he owns tweezers. And then there's the bread. Allez is a bakery, after all, and the bread makes you realize most supermarket bread is basically an edible envelope. The room itself is terrific: bright, open, exceptionally clean, filled with natural light, plants and greenery. It has that rare contemporary design that manages to look cool without making you wonder whether you're allowed to sit down. Open shelves, plants, clean lines and plenty of light make the whole place feel fresh and alive. Even the ficus looks like it has a 401(k). And the service matched the room: cheerful, friendly and genuinely welcoming. Not the carefully rehearsed, "How is everything tasting?" delivered while already walking away. These were people who actually seemed pleased you were there. Allez has managed to pull off something increasingly rare: creative food without pretension, beautiful presentation without gimmicks, stylish surroundings without sterility, and excellent service without theater. The salmon was superb. The avocado was terrific. The bread could probably negotiate its own book deal. Five stars. And I'd go back tomorrow, if only to visit my new friend, the watermelon thingy.
