When I first saw a tasting on Cider, I thought I was being crazy! However, it is true! Idk how they do it and I was super curious. I was not wrong tho! The place is super nice, it is a really chill environment! Some families had their children and other were just talking! The staff was nice and they had a food truck that smelled amazing! Although, I would not encourage people to the tasting! It is not good flavory cider! Out of the 5 I tried and liked 1 but it was not even that good! Rocky Ridge Reserve and Firecracker are great. A little more expensive for a flight, at $15 for 5. Quality overall good. Staff are friendly Beautiful outdoor space. Dogs: allowed inside and out. Brought out water bowl for our dog. Have some private parking. Open earlier than other places on Friday and is a good first stop when cruising around Scott's Addition. It felt like an oasis in the middle of a desert! Beautiful stone courtyard w/cafe style seating and lots of areas to sit w/shade and patio lighting! Ambiance galore, and we went during the day, I bet it's gorgeous at night! Industrial but historical buildings done in an eye pleasing way. I'm not sure where to start.. The staff was friendly and very helpful arranging everything for our wedding. I couldn't have asked for more. Mackenzie was amazing to work with and she was so thorough with all the little details from something as simple as table cloths to making sure tables were rearranged at the correct time. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and speaks for itself, our family and friends loved it. The wines and ciders we had were great, we most definitely got a few extra bottles to take home with us afterwards. There are multiple options with weddings or any other event at Blue Bee Cider which my husband and I thought was great as we did have a smaller wedding and a full buyout would've been more than what we needed. The location is great as well, I believe our hotel was less than 15 minutes away. This worked out very well as we had family and friends coming in from out of state. Also there are so many places for beautiful photographs at the venue and right outside the venue. 10/10 recommend Blue Bee to anyone who is looking at have any type of event as they do have the different event spaces available. read more

I enjoyed my time at Blue Bee. My husband and I took a tour and did a tasting which was alot of fun. Who doesnt enjoy a little bit of history with their cider right??!! One of favorite things about this cidery is the different types of cider that they offer. They have sweet, sour and crisp ciders, so literally something for everyone! The Rose Cider is a must try for anyone who likes a sweet cider with a higher alcohol content. Long story short the rose is dangerous because it taste so good and will sneak up on you. 5 stars for the ciders 3 stars for the atmosphere. I absolutely hate the chairs here they are flimsy and not ideal for girls with a little junk in the trunk. The food trucks are good, and if you don't like them, you are within walking distance of Lunch and Supper, Boulevard Burgers and Brew and Peter Changs. My husband and I went on the tour/tasting for my birthday. While we waited for the tour to begin, I had a glass of Aragon 1904 and he had some hot cider in an enclosed outdoor space with warm heaters. Our guide was friendly and super knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the company, owner, apples and cider. The tasting at the end of the tour was amazing. We tasted 8 different ciders and wound up coming home with 4 different varieties. Really cool place to try some cider! I like that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. We went on a Saturday right when it opened so it wasn't too busy yet but later in the day, it picked up. I really liked that they gave your samples on little trays that explained each one, very helpful. Blue Bee is one of my favorite cideries in the RVA area because of a few reasons: 1.) Their ciders are simply the best, in my opinion. You have the option of dry and sweet flavors, and they always hit the spot. 2.) The location is great! Parking can be tricky, if you're looking for a close spot, as they have mainly street-only parking, but the great thing about the Scott's Addition area is that there's plenty of street spots around- and you're in walking distance to some great restaurants. 3.) The staff here is the BEST. Everyone, from managers to regular employees are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and kind. 4.) THE AMBIANCE. Cider is awesome, but I want to sip somewhere that feels both intimate and chic- Blue Bee cider nails it! I'm a huge cider lover and absolutely enjoyed Blue Bee. You have a choice of different flights. I opted for the "Essential Ciders" flight. Their ciders are more on the dryer side but all taste great and have their only characteristics. A flight will cost around $15 for 5 flavors of generous servings. Came out tonight on a Saturday as this cidery and other breweries were having a pub crawl. Got a flight of all 5 ciders and the Argorn 1904 was my favorite, its sweeter than the rest but not too sweet. The whole place was rather packed at 6pm. A very "young" crowd, kind of loud but not rowdy. Their back room is bigger but also packed. All the furniture is kind of collapsable so be careful, i almost knocked my whole table over twice. I got food from a food truck and was fighting with people to get seating area inside anyway. The bathroom is clean. And they're inside room is rather warm. Most of their cider is very dry. And their clientele is kind of pushy tonight. (I.e. a few people tried to cut me in line, not that the staff didn't handle them great). Overall i like the one cider a lot, the others were pretty good too, like the staff who were very friendly but may not come again on a weekend. read more

I know, I know, how am I American and I don't like beer. Well, maybe I just haven't tried the right beer? I don't know. So when I walked in, the owner was lovely. She asked me questions and we talked for a good little while. It seems like she was hyper aware that I was alone and didn't want me to feel uncomfortable. Brownie points! I chose to get a cider flight since I'd never been before and I'm all about trying everything out. Oh my goodness. I loved all of them except the add-on dessert cider that I decided to get. It was way too strong for me! I made the questionable decision to not have dinner beforehand so let's just say I was slightly tipsy when I left. Be forewarned: cider is stronger than it may appear! The inside is so cute, but tiny! They have chairs outside but it seemed like an afterthought. I was actually a little happy that I was only with 2 other people, because if I had brought a huge party, there would have been nowhere for us to sit. I am a cider fan, both beer and wine. Without doing any research on Blue Bee, my friends and I decided to head over Saturday afternoon. I am not sure why I was expecting this to be cider beer but I was pleasantly surprised when we got there and found out it was cider wine. I understand they are new to this location, the building does have a sign hanging from the stair case but you will need to keep your eyes open or you will miss it. The front porch area has a wonderful view of downtown Richmond. The inside is small and plain. The back wall is decorated simply with bottles of cider and a few large pictures of different apple varieties. There is one large table with five folding chairs. We were lucky enough to have arrived right before a large rush and the five of us were seated here to do the cider tasting. I'll spare you my thoughts on all the ciders but I will tell you that I fell in love with the Harvest Ration, Blue Bee's dessert cider that shares the same characteristics of Brandy. The two people working were very nice and seemed to be quite knowledgeable on not only the ciders, but the apples and the different top notes of each cider we sampled. They had different packages available, some including the ciders or chocolates. Listed on the sales board were a few cheese pairing options as well. They also offer tours of the brewery. We did not partake in the tour this time around but I would love to in the future. This is a quick stop, not a place you can hang around all day and sip on ciders. I would love to see them expand and have a set up similar to a winery where you could host a small event. read more

What a great addition to Richmond. Decided to finally see what the Cidery had to offer and are now kicking ourselves for not going sooner. We sampled both ciders available, the Aragon 1904, named after the building, which is a really refreshing and easy to drink cider. This is not like any of the other commercially distributed ciders. The other was the Charred Ordinary, which is more of the traditional old fashioned cider. This one is very tart and in my opinion needs to be paired with food to drink but still delicious. While we were tasting, they asked if we wanted to go on the brewery tour, and who are we to say no? So we bought a small bottle of the Aragon to drink while seeing how the product is made. We were told that a different variety will be available last summer and a brandy will ready come fall. Yay, another reason to come back. This cider is only available in Richmond, seriously how lucky are we?!? I am pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of the product such a small cidery produce. read more

First timer for Blue Bee here! I will have to go back and check it out another time to get its true vibes. There was a wedding rehearsal that was still open to the public. We got a cider flight, and two were great while the other two were just okay. I couldn't get over $6 or $7 for a 6oz pour...! How expensive! Sure, that's how much a glass of wine goes for, but the alcohol content for cider isn't that of wine. Especially when you pay that much for a full 12 or 16 oz at Buskey a couple blocks away. The outside area had a tent with heaters, but they were turned off because they ran out of gas for them from a weekend party they had. August 2018, 2.5 out of 5. We stopped here during a tour of breweries in the city of Richmond. My wife really likes ciders so this was an obvious choice. The Tasting Room is spread out over a patio and a couple small bars and offers a nice and pleasant experience. The ciders were okay but nothing stood out. All of the Siders seem to run together and tasted fairly generic. Nothing was bad but nothing was exceptional. If you are a big cider fan then this place might be worth a stop. But in a city filled with so many other alcohol options this place didn't leave me with the feeling that I really needed to check it out. read more

I love the old school charm of the building and the story behind it. Compared to the other cideries in the area, Blue Bee is huge! There's a main bar area and a few garage areas that have been converted to seating areas. The garages have wooden doors with small windows, but there are also large sky lights in the ceiling that help make the area nice and bright. The garage doors are always open when the weather is nice, so you definitely won't feel secluded from what's going on outside. The courtyard area is also large and you can often find a food truck serving of some of Richmonds best bites. I love the atmosphere and the crowd. It's definitely a fun place to be. As for the cider, I must admit, I love wine, beer, and cocktails, but I'm not really much of a cider person. Blue Bee has about ten regular ciders to choose from. Most seem to be on the dry side but all very unique. To add to that they also have occasional special events that highlight special ciders from them as well as other companies. Awesome branding and general vibe but the two separate spaces for the tasting room and indoor seating is a bit confusing. My group got a mix of their original flights and a special rosé flight. The originals (which I believe are all brewed in-house) were infinitely better than the rosés. Two out of five were so bad that they weren't even drinkable. I guess the only plus is that the rosés were largely from other brewers. I think if they stick to their own ciders they'll be good! read more

I went to Blue Bee Cider on 8/18/18 while exploring the breweries in the Scott's Addition neighborhood. I have been to several ciders (hard cider seems to be increasing in popularity). I thought the service at Blue Bee Cider was good but the cider was just okay. I did like the fact that you could order a flight of their cider. I was surprised the amount of space that was available. If you see a large crowd outside don't worry about finding a seat. Blue Bee Cider has a large tasting room behind the bar. One of the compliments, I can give to Blue Bee Cider is that they seem to be very plugged into the cider community. I asked why the tee shirts one of the bartenders was wearing listed not only their business but several others. They explained that they host a festival with all the ciders made in VA listed (several which I had been to) each year. In a nutshell if you like cider and find yourself in Richmond, VA worth a stop and I think the festival they host with other VA ciders would be fun. read more
