This fantastic turkish restaurant is hidden just behind Southwark station, and covered by plant…read moregrowth. The restaurant is basically located in a converted railway tunnel which adds to the charm. I selected the lunch menu. Despite the items being extrmely hard to pronounce I managed to order a starter and a main. The starter was a calamari rings in batter with a sweet chilli dressing followed by an adequate main of 4 chicken patties with bulgerwheat and salad. Very tasty, good portion and quality. This is definitely one to try again. The lamb shank looked good from what others ordered and I'll be trying that.

It is nice to see more and more places popping up in this previously quite deserted area. EV is…read moreperfect for a quick fix before or after a visit to the theatre or Tate Modern. It's self-service with all mezze dishes on display behind a massive glass counter. I can't remember exactly how much they charged for a selection of four salad items, but the portions were very generous and good value. Mind you I wasn't as impressed as I have been at TAS proper (they belong to the same group). The tzatziki and grilled aubergines were rather bland. I was impressed by the freshness of the parsley salad though and felt I was eating healthy food. EV is located under some railway arches and has the ambience of a generic self-service buffet restaurant - the type you get at National Trust properties. It somewhat lacks in atmosphere, even though the turquoise chandeliers add a touch of class. In summary: more of a quick lunch fix than a destination for a good night out.

The Real Greek - St Martin's Lane - Lamb meatball lunch - delicious!

They have a lunch/afternoon special that includes a variety of meal options for...I think it was $12.50. So we got a couple of those, choosing the chicken skewers and the lamb meatballs. They come with pita bread, tzatziki, a lovely Greek salad, and rice or chips. Really refreshing and flavorful; filling but not heavy. It also seemed like a lot of vegetarian choices were available. We also got the humus and some Greek peach iced tea, and that was enough for all 3 of us to feel completely satisfied and at a very reasonable price. Comfortable seating and nice decor. We don't live on this continent but I am sure that I will hear my husband say, many times, in the future "remember that little Greek place we went to in London?" Yes; I will.

My Old Fashioned tasted great with the Greek honey. The lemon gin drink was OK. Our large Greek salad was excellent. Too often they are made with too much lettuce. Here, there was no lettuce, just lots of veggies, feta cheese, olives, etc. nicely done! Our lamb and halloumi skewers were tasty though could've been a bit larger serving wise. Finally, our flat bread (pita) and hummus were good though perhaps slightly overpriced. Service was very good, the restaurant was clean and fairly comfortable. Two thumbs up!

Like Linzi says, Keen offer a good range of sandwiches, tangines and other hot food. Their coffee and food is among the best in the area - it's obvious that they've really made an effort to stand out from their competitors. Bread is typically stone-baked, and many of the ingredients French in origin (always a positive for this Francophile), like the classic ham and emmental combo and the French butter in their croissants. Their brownies are jaw-droppingly good, in a handily small size and welcome low price (£1). But my favourite aspect of them is their enterprising spirit and friendly attitude to customers. They go out of their way to get to know you - again, as Linzi says, it's clear they want to be an active, positive part of the Victoria community. Today I even discovered that they very laudably offer a 15-20p discount (approx.) on their coffee for those people bringing their own mug. Surprisingly few cafes offer this, despite the unquestionable financial and environmental benefits for cafe, customer and the world generally, so Keen deserve a lot of credit. They'll also be getting a lot of my custom as a result, even though they're a fair walk from my office. Bravo!

Puns…read more Anyway, kidding aside, Keen is a brand new hipster coffee/lunch place that just opened in the soulless wasteland that is Victoria. In fact that and a Pret opened on the same corner, yet my co-workers come back every day with white Keen lunchbags. Suck it, Pret. Keen is a start-up by two cute English and French guys, they cook everything on the premises so it's fresh and made with great ingredients! They serve sandwiches on proper good artisan sourdough and brioche, fresh salads and hot pots of soup and chicken dishes. They also make fancy hipster coffee. Obviously. Mostly I love that they have little pots of chocolate mousse, fruit and posh yoghurts, for only £1.50, already making it better value than Pret. They are super friendly and obviously excited to be part of the community around here. My office love it for a reason and if you work around here, you should definitely support this little guy.
