Amazing roll and BND roll
Emily C.

Fresh and delicious sushi on the west side of Ridgewood. Make a reservation especially on the weekends. The staff is so kind and helpful. We were debating extra rolls to get and our waitress helped us so much!

So I am a regular at another Ridgewood sushi joint and people always talk about Blu and if we have tried it. Well when we were craving sushi for the second time in a week I said let's try it to change up the selection. Well it was phenomenal. Service was great. The rolls were all fresh and delicious. Each one better than the last. Wonderful presentation. They were crazy tasty. It's nice to know there is another great sushi place here. I try sushi at places people recommend as good and nothing compares to what I was used to. This does. It's as good as I have had. So we will now cycle between them because they have different options. You won't be sorry you tried this.

Yellowtail Scallion Roll, Flying Fish Roe Sushi 2 Pcs

I got takeout sushi from Blu. Sushi is one of my favorite foods, and I wanted to try something new. I got a free miso soup which was nice, and tasted more earthy or umami tasting than others. My disappointment came with the Sushi combo. The pieces of sashimi were smaller than the rice beneath it. The taste of the sushi was pretty good, though. The hostess was nice enough to open up my order when I picked it up to make sure it was brown rice, like I asked. I appreciated that hospitality. The yellowtail scallion roll was by far my favorite, and a must try. The restaurant inside, although I didn't eat there, was cute, quaint, and clean.

YUM. was looking for a yummy sushi place in the area and decided to check out Blu Sushi because of the reviews and the pictures looked promising. i'm so glad we did because we thourouly enjoyed this cozy sushi spot! the rolls were tasty, noticeably fresh and affordable! the staff was super friendly and engaging you could tell they genuinely want to know if you enjoyed the meal. our favorite member was the chef after learning about how meticulous he is with sushi prep and how kind he was. ratings: philadelphia roll 7/10: tasty and fresh, wasn't expecting the cucumber in place of the typical avocado pairing but wasn't a bad swap. comes in 6 pieces. $7.50 spicy salmon roll 8/10: good taste and freshness, not my fav but my husband likes it. $7.50 golden billie 8/10: typically don't like soy paper rolls but with all the fresh fish they put inside and the tangy wasabi mayo i ended up liking this roll. was missing a crunch but was a soft fresh roll. 8-10 pieces: $17 angry bird roll 9/10: wrapped in soy paper with shrimp tempura, was surprised at the great taste of this roll, lots of flavor and the shrimp tempura was made to order with a thin breading so it gave a luxury taste. definitely the best roll we ordered. 10 pieces (not pictured) $17 vanilla and mango mochi 6/10: was yummy but had better! $5 for 2

I love the vegetable spring rolls; comes with great sweet and spicy sauce. I also love the steamed vegetable gyoza. I ate them with the leftover sauce from the spring rolls. Nice filling portion. Service always excellent.

First time visiting Blu Sushi. Tired to get in for a while but the place is small and you need reservations. Finally got one. What an experience. The staff is so nice. Ask them for recommendations. Albacore White Tuna was insane. Fresh and so tasty. The salmon and tuna were so fresh. They melted on my tongue. White tail jalapeño appetizer and edamame were excellent. We recently tried Sushi Cafe in Ho-Ho-Kus and we thought that was excellent. Blu is probably our #1 in the area. Sushi cafe is also very very good but Blu taste like your upscale Manhattan restaurant. Make a reservation. Enjoy

Sushi SUSHI AND SUSHIMI BOAT FOR 2
Sokha L.

Sushi, sashami, rolls were all good. They ran out of the toro jalapeño sashami that evening but it was all good. We ordered the yellowtail jalapeño which is my favorite every sushi restaurant I go to. Customer service staff was on it and the sushi chef was attentive as well. Small joint and it was cozy. It is a BYOB establishment. So we brought the beers, hard liquor, and the sake! They had all the right glassware for each type of drink. Brought out plenty of ice for our drinks and even an ice bucket to keep our bottles cold. They are on the list for when I'm in Ridgewood.

Angry bird roll - so good!

Ordered from here for the first time today and the sushi was so fresh! One of the best sushi rolls I've had around the area for sure. The woman at the counter was so nice as well! Will definitely be ordering from here again!

Incredible sushi - best in ridgewood / bergen county area - loved the lunch special and definitely will be back to try the expanded menu - deserves its high rating!!

My photo does not do this wonderful place justice. The atmosphere is superb and the hospitality is beyond compare. The pricing seems fair, but I that's all relative.

Amazing roll and angry bird roll
Michelle S.

This was my first time trying Blu Sushi. We started off with the miso soup which tasted no different than miso soups at other sushi spots, enjoyable as always. Then we had the dynamite shrimp which was out of this world!! The rolls we had were the salmon avocado roll, eel cucumber roll, tiger roll (which was salmon, tuna, yellowtail and eel on top with spicy tuna inside) which was my dad's favorite, amazing roll (which was shrimp tempura and spicy tuna with pepper tuna on top) and the angry bird roll (shrimp tempura , spicy tuna, avocado) which was my favorite roll! The fish was very fresh! The rolls were a bit small for the price point. I've gotten similar quality sushi for much less. But this spot is closer to me. Maybe next time I'll dine in!

dancing scallops
Karla R.

One of the "freshest" Sushi places I've been too. Place was very clean, excellent customer service and of course phenomenal food. We went on a Sunday afternoon. Everything we had was so delicious. One thing that extra stood out for us was the "Dancing Scallops". My best friend and I are quite particular with scallops whether breaded/fried/ or steamed. It's always a miss or hit....but 2 pieces was not enough (an order comes with 4 pieces) . If we didn't order 3 rolls each and boy choy we def would have ordered more of the dancing Scallops. It was my best friend's 2nd time there and my 1st...we're from Jersey City but the 40 mins drive is def worth it. Def will be back

Omakase, a Japanese term that translates to "I'll leave it up to the chef," is meant to be a…read moreshowcase of seasonal specialties. Yet in many Japanese restaurants, I've found that no matter when I revisit and order their omakase, the dishes, from appetizers to sushi and sashimi, all remain the same. Thankfully, this was not the case at Shumi. Here, the chefs truly strive to create edible masterpieces. I had the pleasure of enjoying innovative appetizers along with nigiri that simply melted in my mouth. Shumi's omakase was once priced at $150 per person, but in a thoughtful move to accommodate their customers, they adjusted it to $95 per person without compromising the quality of their fish. I will note that the pieces are smaller, but they still deliver the freshest taste. The staff is exceptionally gracious, dedicated to ensuring a wonderful dining experience. They are quick to replenish your tea or fill your glass as soon as it's half empty. I did, however, find the restaurant a bit chilly, and the music was a little too loud, making it difficult to hear the staff as they described each type of fish. For those who followed Master Chef Kunihiko "Ike" Aikasa from the original Shumi in Somerville, he sold that business before opening this new location in Ridgewood, which has been open since 2017. Here, he has partnered with owner David Seo. The aesthetic of the new restaurant remains clean and bright. In a competitive town like Ridgewood, where locals expect restaurants to bring their A-game, Shumi has obviously stood the test of time. I wish them many more years of excellence. Rating scale: Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4.5/5 Food: 5/5 Overall: I'd give it 4.5 stars, but I rounded it up to 5 stars.

Speaking of the food, let's get into it. Mango Avocado Roll: Refreshing and Delicious. This was a great appetizer to my poke bowl. Oasis Poke Bowl: This was deliciously refreshing as well, however it doesn't come with any sauce. I asked for a side of teriyaki which made everything better; elevated the entire bowl. Surf N Turf: I will order this moving forward as my go-to roll. The beef was cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the salmon. This roll itself filled me up, I thought I was going to order something else but I was done after that. Salmon and Shrimp Teriyaki: My partner gets this each time and I am always so excited to throw my fork into his plate. The teriyaki sauce here is so tasty, I want to put it on everything! The salmon and shrimp are also cooked super well, no chewiness here. Great amount of crisp on the salmon, the way it slides onto the fork is beautiful to watch. Vegetable Gyoza: The star of the show!! Best appetizer they have truly. I was so sad when there was no more. But thankful to have been able to experience such a great starter. Sweet Potato Roll: (Not pictured) The roll was ok, I liked it but felt like it was missing something. Maybe I would have liked it if it was Korean sweet potatoes. I won't order again because the menu is so extensive I can't limit myself to something I thought was ok. (4/5) Overall, Shokudo is a fantastic place to eat. It's truly an experience. The music is amazing and not overbearing, the ambiance is beautiful and there's multiple conversation pieces. What I love about looking at the items in the restaurant is how they go from traditional to contemporary. The servers were the sweetest, they all were extremely hospitable. All I can say is, I'll be back and if you go... you may see me there.

Not wanting to argue, I just said "OK," but I definitely wasn't happy. I also ordered the chicken teriyaki, which was rubbery and didn't taste like any teriyaki I'm used to. However, it did get pretty busy around 7 PM, but there were still available seats. For a restaurant in this area, it was pretty big with quite a few tables inside. The menu was very typical of any local neighborhood Japanese restaurant - Japanese soups and salads, appetizers, entrees like teriyaki dishes, noodles/udons, rice entrees and lots of different sushi and sushi rolls. Nothing on the menu will blow you away or be surprising, but it'll satisfy your Japanese food craving if that's what you're seeking. Our family ordered Edamame and Fried Gyoza to start and both were good. The Gyoza was actually better than I anticipated, arriving at our table hot and crispy. For entrees, we ordered our kids the Salmon Teriyaki, which was solid. There was a lot of teriyaki sauce on the salmon and the salmon was not overly cooked or dry, so that was a plus. I ordered 3 regular sushi rolls - Spicy Crab, Spicy Yellowtail and Spicy Salmon - and all were good and pretty much what I expected. My wife ordered the Sushi Regular, which came with 8 pieces of sushi and a California Roll. Once again, all good. Nothing that was off about any of it. We also ordered a Nabeyaki Udon, but I didn't get to try any of it, however, our kids ate a lot of it, which was a good sign that it was good. Like I said, there was nothing that was bad here and everything was good, but nothing is spectacular either. If you're just seeking Japanese food/sushi and need to get your fix on, the food at Kumo will hit that spot.
