We have used Blooming Paws three times for grooming services for our Springer spaniel mix and it was really great. Just be VERY specific about what you want in terms of cut and if you have any special requests. I spoke to the office manager and was able to take him first thing in the morning and then pick him up right after because he doesn't like being kenneled. First of all, I want to say that the veterinary side is one my friends have had good experiences with, but they have dogs. Not cats. I took my cat in to be seen because he was fur mowing, and I wanted to know how to prevent that so he didn't have to live the rest of his life coned. This was quite some time ago, but I've since decided this may be important for other cat owners to consider. When we (Me, my husband, and our cat) initially entered the building, we were brought back to a room and waited to let him out of his carrier. When someone walked in, a vet tech I presume, she was gentle and very loving with our cat. Why the one star? After she left, it was not her who treated my cat. Instead walked in this doctor that immediately made my cat flick his tail. When I asked what we could do, she lied to me about there being no way to skin test my cat (you can do skin scrapes, I know because I brought him to another vet). She then said she needed to do 500 dollar blood work instead. She said she had found fleas despite us using a preventative, and instead of her suggesting a stronger one she sent us home with an anti itch moose that didn't work. We didn't do the blood tests because we knew something was off, especially when she brought in a small rag to hold my cat down for a vaccine (he is a huge cat) and he ended up clawing her and she lifted him by the scruff (not healthy for a 17 pound cat, btw! Yes, that is his healthy weight. He is tall!) We brought him to arlington, who not only gave us a strong flea preventative, but sent us home with actual medicine (steroids) to help him heal any infection he had gotten from prolonged fleas. Every since then, he has been healthy and not itchy. No thanks to bloomingpaws for that. read more

She gets excited when we pull up to the daycare, really excited when I call, and she hears the voice prompt, and then extremely excited when she sees her daycare family. We took our 1 year old shih tzu here for a 2 night stay. He was perky and healthy when we dropped him off. They called us to say he was limping the morning we were to pick him up and had already given him a pain reliever. We took him to our vet as soon as we got home and he had a severely bruised and swollen front paw as well as a bruised and possibly broken tail. Unbelievably neglectful treatment. No response from them other than "we'll check with staff and see if anyone knows anything". Terrible experience for our sweet pup. read more

Horrible experience. I live in the apartments next door. I went in to ask normal questions about accommodations and get details for an 8 day reservation for 2 dogs. I've done it countless times. The receptionist kicks me out and says all the information is on the site. Like what are you hiding? You can't even give me 2 mins? Why do you expect me to give you money for such bad service? If you treat me like this, how would you treat me dogs! I'm making sure all my neighbors next to this place know how horrible they are and to never use them. I had a cat last year. I adopted him old, so I took him to the vet as soon as I got him. Bloomingpaws said he was healthy, but for the nine months I had him I took him to the vet probably once a month for different issues. He had bloody urine, nausea, anxiety, etc. Every time I visited bloomingpaws they said he was fine and it was probably anxiety or a fluke. Bloomingpaws did blood tests after a while and they said things were a little off. Bloomingpaws said they didn't have the in house ability to test him further. After hearing this, I finally took him to a different vet. I was immediately validated and my cat was diagnosed with cancer as well as inflammatory bowel disease. He had three tumors and had been in pain. I had to put him down a week later. I give bloomingpaws a poor review because they simply did not seem to care about my cat nor did they seem to ever try to do anything more than physical exams. They couldn't care for my cat the way he deserved. read more

If I have to be away from my baby I at least feel confident they will take good care of her. Their staff is very friendly and they are knowledgeable about my dog and cats medical needs, nutrition and playtime! They know is by name and get each time we come. We utilize their daycare at least twice a month to help get our dog's wiggles out and trust her medical care to them. Their grooming salon is also wonderful, providing a consistent adorable haircut each time. Scheduling is easy and I am able to watch my dog play when she is at daycare. If you have an anxious or reactive dog, DONT take them here. The vets will not give them the time of day to even try to make them feel more comfortable & will complain the whole time. If I could give no stars, I would. EXTREMELY OVERPRICED for the worst service. Let me start by saying my dog is reactive, and can tend to be aggressive. I told them this up front, and the nurse who first greeted us was amazing! She sat on the floor to give him his own time to warm up, fed him treats, and was overall so great & patient with him. Shit hit the fan when the vet & other nurse came in. The nurse "tried" to get him to warm up but instead insisted I just pick him up and hand him to her almost immediately. They muzzled him, which is okay, as he normally does need muzzled, but they absolutely manhandled my dog. Holding him tightly to her chest, practically squeezing him to the point where his spit was foaming at his mouth. They kept trying to examine him but kept saying they "couldnt" because he was so tense. OF COURSE HE WAS TENSE. They scooped him up, squeezed him/held him down, and didn't give him ANY time to adjust being on the table or held by them. They checked his ears, didn't even find any debris, and then decided to put ear drops in them because they were "red". At the end of this 5 minute vet visit where they did nothing but rag doll my dog and complain about his "tenseness" (WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING TO COMFORT HIM), they told me he has anxiety & wapped me with a $110 vet bill for the "exam" (which they did not do at all) and the eardrops. I am beyond pissed and will never be returning. read more

We had our pup have a dental scaling, recently. We should've had it done a long while ago. We kept delaying as we were worried about having our pup go under anesthesia. On dropping off our pup, for the surgery, Amy, their vet tech, was wonderful. She explained everything, she was knowledgeable, kind, patient, and allayed some of my worry. I got a call shortly after the procedure, while my pup was recovering, from Dr. Francis, the vet, to update me after the procedure. Everyone was wonderful before during and after. read more

Go ANYWHERE BUT HERE!!!! Anywhere!!! Definitely never taking my dog back here! During this Christmas weekend I boarded Enzo (100lb Doberman) here. Not even 1 full day later at 9:45am I'm receiving a call saying that another dog has bitten Enzo on his neck, back, groin, and stomach to the point he required 3 staples! She says it was a "small dog" and the other dog got "the worst of it" out of the two. I then talk with the vet who is obviously concerned and trying to ensure I know he is ok. She informs me it's just a small cut which I appreciate as I'm a fully confident the Veterinarian did her job to a high standard. She however can not tell me what happened because she is on the medical side, understandable. So the first woman was freaking out and told me fragments of an incident and the vet made clear Enzo would be just fine and have a scar, no big deal. So I call the boarding side, and Micheal the customer service employee answers the phone. He won't tell me what happened bc he doesn't know yet (how could you not know what happened with a large dog attack in a very tiny facility) and proceeds to talk me in circles referring me up the chain of command to another manager who isn't available for at least two days. He won't give me the other dog's breed, owners name, or anything to allow me to investigate what happened myself or give me a small amount of comfort since I'm so far away. UPDATE: Upon picking up our dogs I have found the two smaller dogs smell like urine and my dog Enzo actually has 7 staples, not three as the Veterinarian told me on the phone. Also you have to ask if hey have been fed for the morning or not, they don't volunteer that information. Apparently it's also regular practice to make the dogs hold their pee until they can't any longer so they lay in it. My dogs are FULLY potty trained and do not go inside unless they absolutely can't hold it. Well played Bloomingpaws, you got my money for a bit until we found out what really goes on here. I prefer to see how a company reacts when something goes awry. This morning, I learned about how BloomingPaws reacts. Our family is in the process of moving outside of Bloomington. I came down first with one of our dogs. I did some research to find a reputable pet daycare who could keep him on days when I drove back home for the weekend. I found BloomingPaws and checked them out. I read some concerning reviews. For the most part, they appeared reputable and caring. Plus, they had cameras to watch the dogs in the facility during the day, which eased my mind about the situation. I took my dog in once a week for daycare. During the first session, I was told he would receive a free evaluation from the veterinarian, a kennel shot, and would be examined to determine what group to place him in. Throughout the day, I checked the cameras, thinking I saw him once, but he was kenneled and kept from the other dogs. I figured he was just in the midst of getting examined (he did have a sore leg). At the end of the day, I went to pick him up and found out they were unable to complete the initial evaluation. There was no real explanation. They said they would evaluate him on the next visit. I paid for the evaluation, the daycare, and a vet visit. I didn't question the additional vet charge because I just didn't want to deal with it. I planned to pay for one. The next few times I took him, things seemed fine. One day, I was watching on the camera and must have seen things wrong because I thought one of the employees in an orange shirt kick his leg out at a dog--that or he did kick a dog. I didn't see anything after, so I cannot confirm whether it happened. I didn't say anything. On my last visit for doggie daycare before moving my family down (no longer needing doggie daycare), I drove the 45-minute drive to drop him off. It takes me 35 minutes to get to work and an additional 15 minutes to drop him off, then another 15 minutes to get to the office. I walked in and told them he was there for doggie daycare. They informed me that one of his required shots expired the Saturday before (this is the following Tuesday). His last visit was the Friday before, and the day before the expiration of this vaccination. I told them no one informed me my dog's vaccination expired and asked if they could give him a shot. I realize part of this is on me because I should keep track of his shots. I'm spoiled; I suppose because I am used to receiving notifications. One of the girls behind the counter said we could make an appointment for him to come in, sometime, just not today. They said he could not enter the daycare without the required shot and that they try to remind people right before shots expire that they are expiring. I said I was just in there the day before the expiration. I received several I am sorry's. I explained to them that I just drove them Gosport, which is 45 minutes away. They said they were sorry. I turned around and left to drive my dog home. I do feel somewhat relieved about this incident because the individual in question about the alleged kick I saw on the camera was walking into work as we were leaving. Upon seeing him, my dog drew a low growl at the employee as he walked past our car. I don't want to say yay or nay to this company. I had some good experiences and enjoyed seeing the excitement on many of their faces when dogs would arrive. I think no company is perfect and there are bound to be some bad apples. Overall, I believe it is based on your personal experience. I do not believe my personal opinion should reflect the overall basis of the organization on a negative level, as there are some positive points in my experience. read more

I boarded my dog here for 4 days and when we picked him up he was extremely sick with kennel cough. He ended up losing 12% of his body weight in the 4 days we had him there. They wanted to charge me over $100 for an exam and medication after I dropped off a healthy dog and got a sick one back. If you are looking for a place to board your dog, look some where else. I had seen mixed reviews before deciding to take the chance and I wish I hadn't. This business does not care about the well being of your pups. My dog was up to date on all vaccinations and never had a health problem before being boarded here. I have to wonder what their cleanliness standards are. read more

Horrible customer service.  Contacted as my vet left town during the start of COVID and one of my ferrets is in crisis.  Rather than schedule an immediate appointment to get him stabilized and seen I am told they are not accepting new patients. This in a town where there are very few Veterinarians that see exotics. So my choices are, hope I can get an appointment at Bloomington Vet or drive two hours with a pet in distress to the Northside of Indy in the hopes he can be seen. We've been taking our two large dogs to BloomingPaws for a combination of daycare, veterinary services, and boarding during vacations for about five years. While they have had some staff turnover, they've always been highly professional, friendly, and helpful. During the pandemic lockdown, they started using a drop off service, which has worked very well when we've used it (about twice a week). We also get reminders by email and their app for appointments to see the vet and required shots. I have recommended this business to others, and I will do so again. We love bringing our dude Gus here. He's always excited to pull into the drive. I love being able to watch video of him playing throughout the day. I love how worn out he is at the end of each visit. We really like the morning staff. I'll say that the evening staff leaves room for improvement (not enough smiles, no even remotely personal greetings). We've only had one issue with Bloomingpaws. We did have an incident where i was told that staff noted a scratch on his head, that the vet had looked at it, and that everything was fine. That scratch was clearly two punctures with two teeth scratches. While I appreciate the vet looking at my boy, the statement of them "noticing a scratch" tells me they either didn't notice my dog being bitten on the head in four spots OR somebody was lying about what happened. I work with animals so I understand anything can happen but the lack of knowledge in this circumstance didn't sit well with me. Regardless of our one bad experience, we keep bringing our guy back. We moved to Indiana from out of state and had to find a boarding place quick for our 3 year old dog. We should have known right from the start this place was not professional or caring at all. First of all, we had to call multiple times over the period of a few days just to get someone to answer the phone to make the appointment. Second, in a typical veterinary office, the workers love to interact with the dogs when they walk in. Not here. Even when my dog walked up to them, they did not seem to notice her at all. They were not unfriendly, but they did make us feel welcome. We dropped her off anyways. Our dog loves to play with other dogs and with people. She loves to go to doggie day cares and even does not mind being boarded. When we picked her up after her 4 or 5 day stay, she was NOT herself. She had completely lost her voice (I am assuming from whining and barking) and it was obvious she was in pain when she tried to make a noise. She slept for days and the fur on her bottom was matted as if she had been sitting in a cage the entire time. She is a hyper 3 year old dog and she could barely jump on our couch for a solid week. She was not herself. It is obvious BloomingPaws does not care for animals left in their care. I will NEVER trust BloomingPaws alone with my dog again. We have taken our dog to another veterinary clinic/boarding place since this incident and she comes home as her normal self. read more

Prior to my move to Bloomington, I did a fair amount of research to find a boarding and daycare option for my dog. Although I was hesitant, I initially settled on BloomingPaws because it was convenient, and there was a waiting list for my first choice location. My dog's first few daycare visits were okay. I was a little disheartened by the size and the fact that no one seemed to know who my dog was. They do not require reservations so no one even knew to expect her. My first red flag came when I was informed that she was put in the "senior" dog group due to her impaired vision. She is a rescue and one of her eyes has been removed. However, she is 2, and no one has ever looked at this as a disability or has looked at her as needing accommodations. At a later date, I took her for a day of daycare and grooming. When I picked her up, I saw that she was let out of a kennel, which was disappointing because I had paid for daycare. The grooming report indicated that my dog was difficult during the groom, and the groomers could not do a good job. I have received feedback from other groomers that she does not like getting her nails done, but I have never received a report like this. Everyone thinks she is an incredibly sweet dog. As soon as we walked out of the door, I noticed that she was limping very badly. I have never seen her limp like this. The limping persisted for a few days. BloomingPaws actually called to see how she was doing because she was "so stressed" during the groom. I inquired as to what may have happened. No one could tell me. I called back again and was told that maybe her nail was clipped too short, which was impossible since the report indicated that her nails were not clipped at all. Coincidentally, we had a vet appointment that week and he confirmed that there was nothing wrong with her nails and that she had some sort of a muscle strain. I have no idea what happened that day, and this is by far the worst experience I have had with boarding and daycare. Despite the convenience, I will never return. I now drive 30 minutes to take her for boarding, have a dog-walker in lieu of daycare, and have tried a few other groomers in the area. read more

I took my dog in for a full spa treatment. I picked her up three hours later and noticed her legs were still quite wet but it wasn't a big deal to me and I wanted to get her home - she doesn't like going to the groomer. The shampoo seemed good but they seemed to neglect her head and chin area. There was still food debris around her mouth and her eyes had crusted stuff still there. I paid extra for nail grinding and they did that but left her nails longer than necessary. There was still some visible space between end of the nail and the quick. Included in the full spa is trimming of the hairs around the pads and feet. They didn't do this at all. All said and done I paid $50 for this appointment and got a hasty shampoo/drying and a less than satisfactory nail trim. I spoke with the manager, she was kind and apologetic and offered to take care of all the mistakes. I told her I didn't want to make my poor dog go through another grooming experience right away so she offered a complimentary full spa for our next visit but I'm only visiting the area. We settled on refunding me the difference between the full spa and standard bath package prices and I was satisfied with that. The people there seem nice, the facility is clean and impressive but in my experience the value for what you pay is not good. read more

This is the worst company in the city of Bloomington. I have boarded my dog here twice and have had serious issues both times. The first time I boarded him, his nose had scabbed to the point of bleeding and they didn't call me to tell me until the day I was supposed to pick him up. His head and nose had permanent scars from this. The next time I boarded him, I had to add an extra day to his stay last minute because of flight delays. I had a neutering appointment for the day I picked him up, and was instructed not to feed him after midnight. I left a voicemail with important instructions not to feed him. When I have left a voicemail after hours at other boarding centers, people returned my calls to address emergencies after hours because OF COURSE YOU WOULD DO THAT. But the next morning when I went to pick him up, they had not followed my instructions and I was charged a cancellation fee for the neutering appt. When I picked him up, he had lost a significant amount of weight and was limping and they could not tell me why. They sent me back with antibiotics. So in summary, I have taken my happy, healthy dog to BloomingPaws on two occasions now and they have given me a sick, emaciated, depressed dog upon each of my returns. Unacceptable. read more

I have never written an online review before but I feel obligated to share my experience with the blooming paws training staff. I had set up an appointment with "master trainer" Taylor Davis over email to assess my dog and talk about what training programs would be the best fit. I clearly stated in the email that my dog is a 7 year old rescue with severe anxiety around other dogs. When my dog and I arrived we were immediately brought back to the training room by Taylor without any sort of introduction or discussion. Either by accident or intentionally, the small training room had four dogs, one of which was a loose puppy. My dog reacted severely and Taylor proceeded to yell at and stomp at my dog in a misguided attempt to correct his behavior. When Taylor's punishments did nothing to stop my dogs behavior he had his assistant take my dog to a partitioned off section of the room. This was my first major concern. The training staff apparently believes that the most effective dog training occurs completely separately from the dogs owner. This inevitably sets the dog and owner up for failure since the clarity and consistency are extremely important to clearly communicate with a dog. If the owner is separated from the entire process, they will not be able to recreate any successes the blooming paws trainers had on their own. I hope that this is not a ploy on the part of blooming paws to keep customers returning for more classes but it is a possibility. My second major concern came when Taylor, after seeing my negative reaction to him harshly correcting my anxious dog, decided to spend the entirety of our meeting trying to convince me that positive punishment (using shocks/yanks etc to punish behaviors) is necessary to handle dogs. I have worked with large mammals in a zoo setting for over 5 years and have never used a positive punishment program. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) both strongly recommend against positive punishment. Despite my objections Taylor was adamant that positive punishment was a necessary part of any effective training regiment and even went as far as end our meeting with a thinly veiled threat that my dog would have to be euthanized if I did not endorse his methods. Throughout the entire meeting, Taylor made no attempt to understand my experiences or my dogs and did not show any interest in my goals for my dogs behavior. He made it clear that all dogs go through the same training program regardless of their circumstances or the needs of their owners. I am writing this review in the hopes that others are not intimidated into becoming a part of this program. A trainer should work with you and your dog and you should feel positively about the experience. Unfortunately there are no universal certification standards for dog trainers, so anyone with minimal experience can earn the label "master trainer." read more

I went there with two dogs on leashes. I don't know how I got an appointment for both, but I appreciated not having to go in twice. However- they didn't bother to help when it seemed like people were just staring at me-so I'm like I should get this under control then. One thing after another I felt like I'm being mommy shamed when my dog jumped up on one of the employees and I sternly said no. We went in there today about my cat and I felt I had to lie to explain why she hadn't been up to date on vital shots for fear of being the bad guy. I have three appointments now- urine to drop off, an appointment for Ellie and a booster for Wanda. Bloomington veterinarary clinic didn't seem to contact me as much. Just after moving here, I had to find a place to board my 2 dogs. My dog needed 1 shot and they charged me for a full exam and multiple unnecessary tests just to be able to board them. during the visit to the vet my 10 month old puppy got scared and they told me they might have to muzzle my dog who has never been aggressive to any person or dog. It was a holiday when I boarded them the next day and so I had to pay for 2 extra nights because of their limited hours. Between the extra charges for the Vet and the extra charges for the boarding, I was billed over $400. Do not use this place. Every time my dog goes I get a call from them. He goes once a week to be socialized and was already bit by another dog and it left scarring on his mouth. This was in the CALM group. They sat our dog out one day because one of his vaccines expired and they did not inform us when we dropped him off. Then they sit him out because he started "coughing" while playing and said he would not be allowed around the other dogs until seen by the vet. So three weeks in a row you have to send my dog to your vet? Completely ridiculous place and I don't feel safe sending my animal here. read more

This is honestly the worst vet I've ever taken my animals to. Wait time for call backs regarding test results, two weeks at the least. I sat on hold for 30 minutes regarding an appointment and a cost for a visit. They also claimed that one of my dogs needed shots when he did not. If it hadn't been for me moving from south Florida and needing a vet in an emergency for one of my dogs I wouldn't have ever considered this place to be a permanent vet for my animals. I'm only reason I'm there still because they are aware and are treating one of my dogs for a peri anal fistula. There is one staff member there that is competent and she is the receptionist. The doctors are not friendly and try and push unnecessary things on you and your animals. read more

I boarded my dog here for one week last year, and would not recommend anyone else do so. The staff seemed friendly and responsive. They informed me what vaccinations were needed, and what they needed from the vet. I told them that he is an older dog, with arthritis. I said that I would appreciate it if he didn't interact with other dogs as he was a fight dog before I got him, and that he can sometimes be aggressive. They seemed to understand this. During his stay I was never able to see him on video, something many people here have said they were able to do. I was frustrated by this as I expected to be able to check in on him. I did not receive updates from them, or any information about how he was doing during his stay. When I picked him up he looked terrible. He was skinnier than when I left him, and did not seem excited to see me. He was exhausted. He fell asleep in the car and slept for most of the next day. I noticed that the inside of his ear was bleeding when we arrived home, and that it seemed to be infected. I called BloomingPaws for more information, and was told that someone saw him scratching it, and that it may have been something he got from another dog. He shouldn't have had interactions with other dogs, so I wasn't sure how that could be. I also didn't understand why someone who was aware it was irritating him didn't have it looked at by a vet. They claimed that their vet protection I was told about in the booking process didn't cover this kind of thing, and that they weren't liable for treating it. If infections caused by cuts that happened in your facility aren't things you are liable for, what are you liable for? After complaining and being told by staff that they weren't liable, I was called by a manager. I was too frustrated to return the call. In any case, I don't think I would trust their vet care after the care he received from the staff. read more
