These guys are the perfect rural vet, and we've taken our herd here for years. It's a half hour or so from Owen county but everyone there has always been great. The wait times are long (though you can check in online as of 2024- it's fantastic) but there's a reason so many people trust Dr. Royer with their pets. After taking all of our money and assuring us she would be fine after some recovery. They gave her some treatment. Meds I don't know about, she went downhill fast and is dead. This is the closest new patient walk-in vet to the west side of Bloomington. The practice is busy as such, so a bit of a wait was expected (more than an hour), especially since it was during the holiday season and a lot of offices (including our usual vets) were closed. The desk staff was pleasant. Once our dog was back in the room, the vet tech efficiently took a history and clipped her nails. The vet came in after a few minutes, did a relevant exam, made and explained the diagnosis, and explained treatment options. I thought the vet was reasonably thorough and efficient. Once the vet was finished, the in-office pharmacy dispensed meds within a few minutes, and checkout was completed in a few more minutes. The fees were quite reasonable compared with other vets we have used, especially for an urgent care visit. read more

I am so grateful to this clinic and I wish I had known about them sooner. My cat had a really painful and infected abscess, and I spent two days trying desperately to get him in to see any of the vets in Bloomington... no one would fit him in. (And many didn't even call me back after I'd left voicemails.) I found out about Royer, and was able to get him there and taken care of within an hour. This is how a vet clinic should be. If your pet is in need, and you get them there before 4:45pm, they WILL take care of that pet, no matter what. Additionally, they didn't require any unnecessary treatments and were extremely reasonably priced. Normally my cat has to be put under in order to do any kind of exam. (He's an amazing and very loving cat, but he turns into a scared little demon at the vet.) This vet actually allowed ME to handle him, and was able to do her assessment with my help in holding him. Every vet I've ever gone to forces him to go under anesthesia if he won't let them handle him. It's scary, it's traumatizing, it's risky, and it always costs me hundreds of dollars just for them to assess him. We left our visit with medicine, clear instructions, friendly reassurance, money still left in our bank account, and NO trauma! I cannot thank or recommend them enough. read more

I have taken all 3 of my pups here to get fixed thinking maybe I did something wrong but no I don't think so. Our first got an infection and we had to take her to the ER vet. Took our second one thinking we messed up, she ended up with an infection as well after following discharge instructions. My third got an infection after surgery as well and we followed discharge instructions to a T. We had to take him to the ER vet because he got bad quick and his infection was bad. All of this has happened within a year. For other things staff is great, wait times are terrible though. I would not recommend. read more

The staff are so caring and attentive. The wait time was so quick! I drove here from Terre Haute because it was the only and closest walk in clinic I could get to for an Emergency my cat had. The only thing I would complain about is they prescribed my cat Metacam which I did not use on my cat for pain because I heard bad things about the medicine and the side effects on cats. Otherwise, my cat healed so well and I was so thankful to get in somewhere the same day. They close at 5 and the latest walk-in time they take is 4pm. read more

I have been to this vet unfortunately 6 times within 3 months. DO NOT LET ANIMALS STAY OVERNIGHT HERE. The first few visits my elderly cat was misdiagnosed and given incorrect medicine THREE TIMES by Dr.Rice. I just went again this week to take in an emergency stray kitten that was hanging around due to her not eating and being weak, sick and lethargic. I asked how long a wait it was. Was told it would be 20 mins- I ended up waiting 2 hours for her to be seen. I believe Dr.Royer is a trustworthy vet, so he wanted to keep her overnight. Said they would call if she showed any signs of pain or turn for the worst. Now, 19 hours later, a young receptionist called to say she died yesterday and had no explanation as to why and said I need to come in and pay asap. This place is an actual joke. Disgusting inside, rude staff, quick and careless vets. I'm glad there is an emergency vet option, but you bet I'll drive to Indy next time I have a sick animal. So sure, have them clip your animals nails or give flea medicine to, but if you actually care for your animal- make the drive to Indy or get in at Bloomington Vets. Poor stray kitten died alone in a metal cage with other animals barking and screaming their heads off. I will make sure none of my family and friends go here again. read more

Me and my sister took her dog here the other day and told them it was an emergency and we waited 3 hours on someone to finally come out and look at him and then they waited another few minutes and by the time they came back to take him inside he had seized and passed. This place is the absolute best! They did everything in their power to save Tiger. They called every morning and every night to give updates. They let me go visit him, and spend time with him outside. Unfortunately his condition was just to bad to make it, but this place truly does care and did every single thing possible to save him. Dr Rice missed a melanoma the size of my thumb when i took my dog in. His entire mouth was obviously injured or swollen but instead of an exam she assumed he chewed on a stick. at this point everyone in my house had seen the growth but she brushed it off as most likely a blood clot and never even looked. She never once opened his mouth or checked anything about him, she gave us antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications. 2 days later after rushing him to the emergency vet they were appalled that she never even looked into his mouth. In my position it wouldn't have changed anything and he still would have passed but it would have given time to prepare. and how many animals has that woman done this with that could have been saved. absolutely do not go here. it's worth the 1.5 hour drive to Carmel or Indy because the vets here either don't care or don't know and either way I will never trust them with my babies ever again and you shouldn't either. read more

Oh the things i could say. the place is amazing and so is the staff. there is one doctor here who has no idea what she is doing or she just doesn't care about what she is doing. Dr. Rice is a terrible vet. Me and my boyfriend brought our 5 day old puppy into here because she was not eating and having trouble breathing. The vet gave her something to help with the breathing. Me and my boyfriend thought that there was liquid in her lungs, Dr.Rice told us there wasn't. She told us that she was fine and she gave us amoxicillin and another medicine and said that she should be okay. We didn't even make it home and the puppy stiffened up and died from not being able to breathe. the puppy had been doing that all morning and we told them that and they said that she would be fine. they watched the puppy do it and still said that. This vet messed up my animals' vaccines. Three cats were supposed to get three year rabies shots. I had brought in the prior certificates to show them. It feels counterintuitive to leave five stars after a sad event, but renal failure in an older cat is an unfortunate common occurrence. Dr. Royer not only educated us about Tigger's condition, but he kept us aware of each stage Tigger would go through, and therefore what to expect. It gave us the precious time to prepare for the inevitable. In the end Scott and his team helped us say goodbye to a wonderful friend and companion. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. They told me my dogs vaccinations were up to date when I came in to have them done. They were wrong, as I tried to show them the expiration date on the paper they had given me. when I came back they made me wait an hour and a half and then charged me for an office visit again even though they messed up. read more

Veterinarian seems nice, and all his staff is very sweet. Took care of my dog when he was in pain. Got him fixed up and back to normal. I would recommend him to anybody Monday through Friday. I am told they also trim dogs nails, and their hair. I have never had this done though. Not super expensive like some other vets. read more

I waited awhile to post this review so I could do so out of concern and not anger. For the last 2 months I've been taking my cat here to receive care after his vet closed and I was unable to get in anywhere else. Initially we went in because of an eye infection, but as my cat is older, I asked for bloodwork also. I was astonished to discover with no symptoms his results were all pretty much elevated. One day after our first appointment, my baby stopped eating. Over the next 2 months we had at least a dozen appointments. I kept asking them various questions which really seemed to anger Dr. Royer and I was essentially told there wasn't really anything wrong and to go home and keep doing what I was doing. I asked for a steroid which I was told was unnecessary. I asked for an appetite stimulant which I was told they didn't really have in stock. I asked for a nausea med, as what they gave me wasn't working and I found out wasn't really what it was for, and was told he didn't need any, just to continue with what I had. I asked for pain medication, and was also shot down. I left that day really upset with absolutely none of what I asked for. On the way home discovered the bloodwork that was done that day, was ran as a dog! 4 days later my baby died in my arms in tremendous pain. I spent near two thousand dollars at this vet in the last 2 months and this was the outcome. If you need shots, or if your furbaby has a simple infection, I think this vet might be ok. If your animal has anything more serious, save yourself the money. There's a reason this vet is so cheap, and the repeated trips add up anyways. Take whatever the earliest appointment is at any other vet. Had I done this my cat would still be alive. I pray that your babies make it if they have to see this vet. read more

0 stars is deserved here however, it's not Possible to do. This is the WORST vet clinic we have ever experienced going to in all the years we have had pets. Our dog was spayed and had dew claws removed there. We were told that her stitches "should" dissolve awhile after her surgery, we weren't given any specific timeframe. It's been over 3 weeks and her stitches hadn't came out or dissolved and her paw was red and infected. She also had stitches in her belly incision that hadn't came out. We called to ask about this and we're told to bring her in. When we got to the clinic at 12:40pm,, we had to wait for 3 hours and still was not seen. After waiting outside the clinic for over 2 hours, I went inside and was told that there were 3 others in front of my dog. My husband went back in a 1/2 hour later and he was told that there was 6 in front of her. Obviously our dog with an infection was being placed behind all others because we were there for a "free" follow-up after her spay and dew claw removal. This is pathetic and this clinic should be ashamed. This should be considered neglectful because of her infected paw. Shame on this clinic. read more

Yesterday was a sad day, as I had to make the decision to euthanize my 9 year old dog. Penny had been a patient of Royer for 7 years. The vets have been amazing to both of my dogs. Up until today I would highly recommend this facility. Unfortunately the receptionist had zero compassion for a dying pet, let alone the owner. She completely destroyed this relationship! I have never been spoken to so rudely not once but twice with no compassion what so ever. She wasn't the only one in the office like this but she did it best. I really like the vets but you are only as strong as your team. I have been in several times in the last 60 days with both pets. More and more as I sit in the waiting room, I hear people complaining. I don't mind the wait because I truly trust these Doctors. If you do go I hope your pet doesn't have to lay in the waiting room dying on the floor vomiting blood for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Thank You to the lady in the waiting area that helped me clean up. I understand how busy their jobs are, however there is such a thing as customer service and how to properly talk to a person. read more
