Have brought five of my dogs here for over 15 years, the only place in town I entrust to care for my furry family members.

The Dog House raised their boarding rates to $22 a day. Still totally worth it. Daycare remains $12/day.

The owners, Jim and Beth, are so nice, and they live on site, so there is human supervision 24/7.

Based on my experience, Combs gets 5 stars for quality of care, but most of that is negated on a…read morenumber of other factors. The good - the vets are very good at diagnosing. The bad - there is much to be said. While my regular visits were essentially uneventful and helpful, there were a few occasions where there were disagreements, and they ultimately decided that they no longer wanted me as a client, and initially tried to part ways with me just after my dog had his recent Cushing's test and needed meds ASAP. They refused to refill his meds due to some rather scathing reviews I left. While truthful, they were exceptionally harsh due to my frustration over the matter. I deleted them because it was clear they would rather let my dog suffer than to speak with me about the matter. After I deleted those, they sent in a 1 month refill to give me some time to find another vet. That is why this specific review will be commenting specifically on my own personal experience. Prescriptions - my dog required a drug called Trilostane. They pointed me to the online pharmacy they used, and it cost about $200 a month. That was far too expensive, and when I told them that, I was given a list of network pharmacies. I'm on disability, and that was much more than I can afford. They either did not offer it or offered it at a similar price. I asked for a copy of the prescription, and was told they do not do that. (Indiana law requires a vet to do this unless they have reason to believe a drug or prescription is being abused.) I had to scour the internet until I found a place that offered exactly what I needed for around $60 a month. They made sure this place had the proper credentials, and sent prescriptions and refills there. I have been able to locate another vet who is flexible in how prescriptions are handled. Customer service - in my experience, it's fine to a degree. If you are neurodivergent, I suggest you find another place. There were a few times where I questioned things, including when I needed to find a way to get an affordable prescription. There were several instances of being given information at the last minute. The final one being the day of his test. We had been communicating via text to set things up. At no point did anyone contact me to inform me that my dog must be up on his rabies shot for them to perform the test. I took him in, and at the last moment, before they were about to take him back, I was informed they would not do the test unless he had his rabies shot. That's about the way it was put. I've worked in customer service for quite a long time, and there are a LOT of ways to phrase things in a gentle way to make it a little less unpleasant. They did not do that. It was very harsh, and as a person with ADHD, I do not process that sort of information well when it's presented in such a way. I told them all of this after they informed me they no longer wished to work with me. At this point, it can be considered discrimination. It's very disappointing to experience what was (to me) an extraordinary lack of professionalism. Good customer service dictates that you always do your best to keep a client informed and up to date, and you communicate in a way that is friendly and non confrontational. That was not my experience unless I simply agreed with whatever they said. Other notes - They shop out notifications to a third party service, which is pretty common these days. I received at least one about a month after the service mentioned was due. They do offer customer service by text, which can be VERY handy. Most of the time they were on top of things. There were times when I'd text asking for an update and did not receive a reply unless I followed up later.

My dog was handled roughly, resulting in expressed anal glands and poorly clipped nails. To add insult to injury, I was still charged for the service. Other times I requested to have his nails trimmed, I would have to ask repeatedly before it got done. I'm extremely disappointed with the service I received from the kennel in April. I boarded my dog for five days and specifically requested a flea and tick bath, ice cream, photographs, and a massage. However, when I picked him up, I was told that the photos were sent to my landline number the day of pickup. To add insult to injury, I found a huge tick on my dog's shoulder that evening, which makes me question whether he even received the flea and tick bath. The kennel offered me a refund for the photos, but I never received it or even the photos. When I called to check on him, someone other than the front desk person answered after the 9th attempt and told me that my dog was 'NOW okay', which really upset me because I had been worried about him. I asked them to explain, and they suggested that I talk to somebody else. So, they got that person, and they essentially gaslighted me into thinking that my dog was fine. However, when I called back, I was told that the groomer had answered the phone and didn't know my dog or what was going on with him. I'm not sure what to believe - was the groomer telling the truth, or was she just saying that to cover for everyone else? I should've listened to my dog when he got on the counter and asked me to hold him. I didn't regretfully. My dog's "4th of July dog party" experience was a real bite - literally! Despite promises of photos and fun, my dog was absent from the pics, and I later discovered puncture wounds and welts on his neck and back. What's concerning is that the staff never disclosed the cause of these injuries, whether it was a fight or just a play bite from another dog. Furthermore, there was no mention of this on the daily report card they provide when I pick up my dog. When I asked for photos of my dog, they never posted any and deleted my comment. They claimed my dog ran away from the camera while simultaneously posting dogs running. This lack of transparency has me worried about the care my dog is receiving. After pickup from daycare, he often has a hoarse bark and needs to urinate urgently. Even urinating by the front door as we exited. I've also noticed he's extremely thirsty, drinking up to 16 ounces of water in the parking lot before going home. They have photos of him foaming at the mouth in the play yard. Sometimes he barks nonstop on the ride home, only to need to poop as soon as we get home. Don't kennels usually take dogs out to pee and poop within 12 hour time frame? Little inconsistencies in care can add up fast whenever it comes to your pets needs. Posted on the front door is a sign stating they only offer holistic and safe items, but they've installed tires and recycled tire materials for the dogs to play and run on. Tires are not holistic or natural. Artificial turf can heat up to a scorching 180 degrees in the summer. I would suggest you do some research before you start using this facility. *5 star Google reviews from current employees like the one left by Saryn_1 is a conflict of interest.
