I called Blooma to check on a tree on the sidewalk right in front of our house, since a big branch had fallen the previous week, the tree showed signs of damage, and we were concerned it could be a hazard. Martin showed up as he said he would and after checking the tree, he said it was fine and nothing had to be done. So, I did not use their services of pruning or tree removal or anything like that, but I really appreciate the fact he was so candid about the fact there was nothing to be done and did not try to push any unnecessary service. read more

Be warned. Martin came to my house on the weekend after requesting a bid for work to remove a tree. We spent a total of 5 minutes looking at the tree and he gave me a bid. Of course I had had several other bids as well. Simply so I had some frame of reference to what cutting a trees down actually costs. Until this tree I had no idea. The rest of the bids (3) came in via email so I never met the other people or companies. He was not the lowest price, but he was there at my door, so I said go ahead. When can you do it. The reply was I can't give an exact date but we are very busy so it will be at least 1.5 months off. He then wrote the figure down on what I assumed, wrongly, was a quote sheet. He gave me a pen and I signed. Also gave him my credit card as deposit and for final payment. I thought that odd at the time, but I am a very busy person running 2 companies and travel a lot. So I knew I was unlikely to be there for when the tree was taken down. Most companies are payment due on completion. So it was easiest to give the card info then. There was no explaining in any way that this was in fact a one sided contract and once signed "there is no out" . Yes on further reading much later, it does say Contract for Work on the front of that sheet. These several part carbon copy sheets, was handed on a clip board so there was not opportunity to see the back. Unless I specifically turned the pages over. But what reason did i have to do that? So what is my concern. I was to learn later that there is no cancellation allowed by the customer for any reason. That company keeps your deposit. In my case than $200. Its not the money. Its the response from the company that needs to be shared. There is the clause in the contact (which was read much later and only after my discussion with Judy) 8) Company's right to cancel. Company may cancel at any time prior to the performance of the services, or installation of goods and materials, by notifying the customer accordingly. If done, Company will refund any sums paid by the customer and neither party shall thereafter have any further obligation under the contract. Even further down at 11) Liquidation damages. This is the section that says they Blooma will keep your money. Today is November the 7th. The job was not even scheduled until next Tuesday. There were no permits to pull, no fees to be paid to government agencies, nothing. No costs at all to Blooma. Why did I cancel. 2 weeks ago I called Blooma and spoke to Judy for the first time. My question was "thank you, the tree came down fast, but when are you taking the final bottom part of the main trunk. " Reply was "let me look it up" Then " we still have you scheduled for more than 2 weeks off, so we haven't done the work" I replied. "well I'm looking at the remainder of the tree and you guys came out and its for the most part gone" that I had received a text stating "we are going to be in your area on another job tomorrow. So can schedule you sooner." I replied back to Bill (the only reference in the text) "That's great, tomorrow is good. What do I need to do." reply "just make room for the truck as we don't need the crane/boom" . The following day the tree for the most part was gone, chipped up and wood removed. Judy replied "my records show that the work is not done" So in great confusion I called Bill to the number associated with the text. My very first question was "you are with Blooma" He replied "no we are ******. Because the chain on the saw hit a nail or other metal in the trunk is damaged the blade and we could not complete the job that day." Great confusion reigned. But now the story was becoming clear. I'd never agreed for the other company to actually do the work. In fact I said to Bill, I haven't paid you a dime. His reply was "we haven't finished the job so we haven't charged you. In 16 years of being an arborist we have never used contracts." So I called Judy back. This was clearly a set of confused circumstances. The reception on the phones was not quite as warm. She immediately pointed out that they would keep my deposit as I had broken the terms of the contract. Also to say that they were booked solid through January. I asked if that was the case then reschedule one of your other customers in my time slot. That will make a happy customer. That there is absolutely no loss financially to them. Upshot is they kept my money. Martins reply when I asked him to reconsider this as I had clearly not, found a better price or faster service or anything else. It was a simple mistake. "We believe our policy is the most equitable and egalitarian for all our customers as we eschew favoritism, and I stand behind it." So basically no. As I said be warned. This is not the sort of business ethics that you want to deal with. Sure they have the law on their side ( I think as I have not bothered to pursue that ) but there are fair a reasonable business practices. This company does not seem to get that. read more

We had Martin & crew remove a large 100+ foot at-risk fir tree that was very close to our house in our front yard and prune a smaller fir tree in our backyard. The large tree was removed with the help of a bucket truck & crane to minimize damage impact to the surrounding area including a much loved nearby maple tree. All together, we are very pleased with the results. Damage impact to our front yard was kept to a minimum and our smaller fir tree now looks great. The whole crew showed up on time and worked very hard to get all the work done in one day. We'll be using these guys again! read more

Great great! I had 2 huge piles of laurel limbs on 2 properties that needed to go away. Martin, the owner, came out on a Sunday, told me how much it would cost and when he would have them removed, and then did the work just as he had told me he would. Martin & his crew were fantastic. My yard had been neglected for several years. They responded promptly to my email request, gave a thorough estimate during the walk through, and completed the job as promised. They worked efficiently, but, more importantly, accurately. I could have hired a "chop shop" for half the price, but, instead, I had a team cut the trees so they would not be damaged and teach me how to better maintain my yard. They are pricier than others but worth every penny. My neighbors are happy that they came. read more

We selected Blooma after interviewing three contractors. Their quote was the best. While the scheduled date was several weeks out, they called at 7:15 to come within the hour. The team that removed the tree and performed hedge pruning were fast, efficient and neat. To avoid damage to a shrub, they dug it up and protected it, returning it at the end of the day. The subcontractor who picked up the tree rounds was very efficient and neat as well. I am very satisfied. read more

I contracted Blooma to remove a HUGE/ tall tree in my yard, that was starting to grow into my foundation. They also took down a smaller tree that had died. They did a great job. They cleaned up after themselves, were timely with their estimate, and work. They filed all the necessary paperwork with the city to get the power turned off etc while they took down the tree. They even cleaned up my heavily wooded backyard. Working with them was hassle free! I would recommend them for tree removal. read more

Two years ago Blooma (Martin Macauley) gave me a bid to do some work on some trees on our property, but I did not choose Blooma because the bid seemed very high. Rather, with some help, I did the work myself. This year we needed help with some badly postponed tree trimming on a slope in the back of our house. So I called Blooma, along with another company for a bid. I chose Blooma, even though its bid was higher, because I knew they had certified arborists on staff and believed they would do a good job. Before the work began, I did contact Martin at Blooma about the basis for the bid and was told that with equipment and other expenses he figured $100 hour/per certified arborist. He had two certified arborists, so the bid came in at $2000 (one day's work). When they arrived to do the work, a crew of six showed up, two of whom were arborists, but Martin was one of the arborists and he left soon after the work began. That left one arborist to do the cutting and deciding where to cut, with the remaining crew members helping to make sure cut branches did not injure other vegetation, and hauling branches to and feeding the chipper. They were here 2 1/2 hours, and during that time also cut down two spindly lilac bushes, one of which was dead, at an additional (agreed to) price of $130 (total additional (but within the 21/2 hours) time of about 10 minutes, maybe). The crew cleaned up nicely and were very pleasant. But when they left, I was a bit shocked at how little time it actually took to do the work for $2000 plus $130 (plus tax). Plus, when I went back up to the top of the slope and looked at the work that was done, some branches that should have been cut (for height reduction purposes) did not get cut. Little thinning (interior pruning) of the trees was done, but then I was told when I inquired while the work was being done that that work "wasn't part of the contract." I emailed, Martin, told him I was not a very happy customer, and invited him to come out to look at the end result. He did not take me up on my offer, but instead replied that the bid was a binding contract and tried to explain why the amount charged was reasonable (including the fact that he understood the crew was at our house for an extra hour). In any event he said regardless of how long it actually took to do the job, the bid amount was binding and was the amount to be paid. I replied that I wasn't disputing that the bid became a contract, but I thought that, given that I was not pleased with the work or the amount charged, good customer relations would suggest he pay me a visit. I received no response. My advice is that if you choose to go with Blooma, make sure you review the bid carefully to ensure that it covers all of the work you want to have done - because if it's not down on the bid it won't get done, at least not without an additional price. And speaking of price -- also make sure you have a fat wallet. read more

After writing the above review, I did discuss the issues with Martin, and he did apologize. He assured me that the plants would be replanted and that there would be no cigarette butts on our property, and to my great surprise, they did follow through (though, while Martin said that the worker puts the butts in his pocket, I saw him throw one on the ground, as did another neighbor I spoke about it with later. But as long as they are gone when he is gone, I am fine). So, to be fair, though the experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, the issues were resolved satisfactorily. read more

This was my second experience with Blooma Tree Experts. We wanted to have the two ornamental pear trees removed from the parking strip in front of our house and replace them with two apple trees. I would never recommend this company. They don't honor customer/owner signed contracts and overcharge without notice, as well as well as leaving sloppy branches on the property for you to dispose of. I was told the crew would be here most of the day for the work, however they left at noon and did not return. I think this owner takes advantage of people and doesn't care. read more

I had Blooma come over and place a bid on the removal of a stump so that my landscaper could plant there. I agreed with the cost and they came out and spent 40 minutes grinding the stump and claiming to have completed the job ,so I paid the amount agreed upon. My landscaper then came out to start planting only to discover that the stump was still there. We called them and they came out and spent no more then 10 minutes to grind the rest. They then wanted to charge me $200 more. I felt that this should have been a correction from not completing the job in the first place. I explained to Martin that I am a hairdresser and this is no different then my quoting the price of a haircut and then stopping short of one side and telling my customer, if they want me to complete the job then they will have to pay me more then I quoted. He refused to listen and continued to call and harass me. I DO NOT recommend this company. They are extremely unethical!!! read more

If I could give this company no stars I would. I gave the owner Martin an opportunity to resolve this matter as an adult, but apparently, as some of his previous reviews eluded to. He find the ability to be professional not a high priority. His website clearly states, " free estimates". Which is another business practice , he chooses not to honor. If you choose his company for service. Please beware. He will set an arbitrary appointment, a month after your meeting. Never give you a courtesy call to confirm, whether you ever made that appointment. Then show up with his crew. Never taking in consideration the waste of time he just put the rest of his employees thru. Then chooses to take you to small claims for services never provided. So he can claim a 250.00 cancellation fee, he never informed us that he had. Apparently he prefers going after people for a cancellation fee, rather than run a professional company. Most companies learn from there mistakes. I guess that is not important to blooma. read more
