Blooma came to trim back a HUGE Holly tree, very spikey and sharp. They trimmed it up from the street, down from the power lines, and up away from our walkway. We consulted with Blooma regarding a tree in the planting strip that had caused damage to our sidewalk, the city water supply and had a large branch fall the previous winter. The Blooma rep seemed very confident that they could get the city to approve the removal and replanting of a more appropriate tree in the planting strip. We costed out a variety of services and the deposit was a % of that total cost. The city permit was listed as $250, however, the deposit was listed as nonrefundable. So when the city denied the permit, we were out the full $700 as the deposit for the work. I think that is a terrible policy. The only work that was done was applying for the permit yet rather than only have to pay the $250 that was listed in the proposal, I was out the full $700 deposit. Be very careful what you put in your proposal as the deposit is a % of the total and is nonrefundable. The Blooma rep was VERY confident that the permit would be approved so we didn't worry. Extremely disappointed with Blooma services. When they came out for the quote they seemed competent, asked good questions, made good observations, and suggestions. Unfortunately, this didn't translate into the work. They left the two trees clearly interfering with power lines; removing these two trees from the wires was one of the main reasons we hired them in the first place and that we clearly communicated to them when we got our quote. What is so disappointing and unprofessional is that Blooma wasn't willing at all to make things right; no willingness to work with us after we spent close to $3k for essentially these two trees. The disappointment comes from the customer service and just simple acknowledgement to the customer before leaving especially when there was damage. Our string lights were damaged and there were scratches along our paint on the side of the house from pulling debris on tarps. On top of that I notice they used my neighbor's plywood and wheelbarrow while doing the cut down of a tree. Martin did come to me to ask questions but so then you would assume they would come to me about any damage before they leave as common courtesy. We sent an email to explain our disappointment and Martin did apologize but basically said bottom line we got the job done. I would really advise shopping around... My husband and I were very disappointed with Blooma. We have had problems with cheap contractors in the past, so when they quoted us higher than the other companies and promised that they would deliver more, we thought we should just pay it and have a quality job done. That turned out not too be true. They were booked out for almost two months, which not ideal, but fine. They did show up mostly on time with a big crew. Their lead for the day was a different person than the gentleman who gave us our quote and we could tell right away he did not like what he was signed up for. He asked us if he could cut down our beautiful, young, and healthy cherry blossom tree to make it easier to remove the problem tree leaning towards our house. He did offer to do it for free, but we declined. He did not seem happy with this response. At the end of the day they left a large branch that fell in to the cherry blossom tree and was bending it over. Another problem is that the most expensive item of the job was pruning back a giant maple tree that extended into our neighbors yard and clogged up their gutters with leaves. They barely pruned it back and there are still several branches that extend over the fence line. Also, a week later an 8 foot branch fell down from that tree on our property damaging some of our plants. Lastly, they agreed to chop down a different problematic maple. At the time we were quoted for it is was very early spring. By the time they could schedule us for the job it was early june and the blackberry bushes we have been fighting against for years were back in full force around the base of the tree. The tree wasn't even cut down to the base. The remaining "stump" is over 6 feet tall and still has many branches sticking out of it. I know our yard was a tough job, but I really thought they were going to be professionals and handle it. The many things they did right are overshadowed by the things they did wrong. And whenever we tried to discuss this with the team lead the day of, the man who gave us the quote, or anyone else in the company they were dismissive and rude. I have used Blooma for maybe 20 years, every few years. My neighbors have also. My church used them. They are great. They have high wire guys who can prune branches 50 feet off the ground; drop them with ropes if necessary; take down 4' diameter 80' tree carefully; and prune small stuff quite well. On Nov 29th they pruned 6 trees for me. I talked with each of their crew as they worked - which also helps ensure they get the branches I want removed; sometimes they had better suggestions. I like to learn. I was impressed with the tiny "hand pruner" with a 6 foot handle that could cut 3/8" or more branches perfectly. I have a couple of trees they pruned you cannot even see the cuts.They clean up well. Blower and all. Not sure why some folks write one star reviews - those read like a different company. read more

When Martin and crew first arrived we asked a few questions about the procedure and scope of the work. Martin couldn't be bothered to clarify a few things and started the whole experience on a sour note insisting that he needed to start right away or wouldn't finish, in the end Martin finished the job earlier than projected. We asked the crew to check in before leaving which they failed to do. It has been exceedinly difficult to deal with them after the job to verify payment amounts, etc. The work quality was ok, but doesn't stand out given their more premium price. Take your dollars elsewhere for better communication and expertise. I'd suggest having a look at Taproot who we had a much better experience with on a different job. read more

We have a fairly large apple tree that was sprawling all over the place. Plus, it had TONS of apples. Martin came out. He seemed super knowledgeable about tree maintenance, so we decided to go with them after comparing them to other companies. We hired Blooma to come in and prune our tree back in January/February 2017. To be fair, it seemed to look fine after the pruning. The young man that ran the project (not Martin) let us know that we shouldn't expect the tree to bare any apples that year due to the pruning. He did warn us that by the next spring, we may have even more apples to deal with. Apparently, this is the result of a good ol' fashioned pruning. Spring of 2018 rolls around - still no fruit. I called and the young man said that's odd. He said perhaps it will take about two years. I let it go with the plan to wait the two years. Spring of 2019 rolls around - still no fruit. It's now September and it JUST dawned on me that we never had apples this year. I responded to the last email exchange I had with Martin to explain the situation, and connect the dots that I am a previous, paying customer. Briana responded and said here's the number of another vendor who can come out and determine if the tree is diseased. I replied to Briana and said I reached back out to Blooma since the tree was baring apples prior to their work. I also thought they might offer insight since they are the "tree experts" and would know if it's diseased. (To be fair, I didn't quote it in my response). If the tree was diseased, I would have assumed their expertise would have spotted the issue during the actual work. I know nothing about trees, but my initial thought would be that if it was so diseased the tree wouldn't have had so many apples prior to the work they did. Needless to say, Briana did not respond to my reply. At this point, I can just be glad that the tree is still standing. If you know what's good for you, I'd skip this company. read more

Pros: good email/ phone communication; on time for job and cleaned up well after job; came back to my house within hours of my complaint. Cons: topped 5 of my 6 trees horizontally w/o regard to overall shape, buzzcut 3 cypresses into shrubs instead of pruning appropriate branches at proper angles and maintaining quality of 10 year old trees. (I can get on a ladder and shear a tree; I hired a professional to do a better job.) Pricing was middle of the road after estimates w different companies. I paid $150 for them to reserve parking via city to use their truck with a boom--when they returned to try to reshape my cypresses, they didn't use the truck at all, just an extendable hedge trimmer. So not sure why I paid for that. But I was told my cypresses were flat-topped "because they were so tall they had to be cut like that" (they were and are under 2 stories tall). Also irritating was the arborist never acknowledging why I was unhappy with the job, he kept repeating, "I'm a certified arborist." Ok. I get it. But talk to your customer about why they don't like your work, and maybe you will learn something about people and trees. read more

Blooma Tree Experts removed dead and drooping limbs from a BIG fir tree on 5/22/2020. What a great job they did. All the problem limbs were removed and I was able to tell them exactly which ones I wanted cut. By using their bucket truck, the job was completed very quickly. Clean up was superb, they even blew the needles off my stairs. One of my neighbors was also impressed and will be contacting regarding similar work. Tree removal was great. Speedy and efficient, with no problems. Stump removal was effective, but created collateral damage: two plants were damaged beyond what I expected instead of being tied back in advance, and a walkway wooden post and a wooden raised bed were both damaged due to carelessness when positioning the stump grinding machine. The damage to the wooden post and raised bed were not disclosed to me during the work and I discovered them later. When raising concerns afterwards, did not receive much in the way of sympathy or apology. Will probably not use Blooma again. read more

I called Blooma and spoke to Martin to get a preliminary estimate for removal and pruning of two trees. Martin was out to check the project right away, he was very professional, informative, and friendly. After checking with other tree removal companies, Blooma was the only one that could take care of my project. Blooma took care of the needed pest control, removal and pruning of the trees with some power cables very close to the trees. Blooma Tree Experts did a great job. We have had them to our house three times and each time they were very professional and right on time. The first time we had them over was to discuss the health of an oak tree and whether or not we needed to clean up the work that the city's tree company had done. The oak tree was sitting over a street and the city's tree company had completely butchered (in our non-professional opinion) the oak tree and we were concerned that it wouldn't survive. Martin came over and evaluated the tree and said that it would be fine and that it wouldn't be worth removing or doing any additional work to the tree. This was 4 years ago and the tree is healthy and doing great. The second time we had them out was to evaluate two fir trees. One of the fir trees was showing a lot of sap and losing a number of branches. We were concerned that this tree would fall (which would be on our house) and that the other fir tree, who was very close and definitely had an intertwined root system, would also go. Martin's recommendation was that the trees were healthy and that he wouldn't take them down. If we did take them down, it would be over $1500 each based on how tall and thick they were. Finally, we had them out to evaluate a birch tree as the birch looked like it was dying from the top down. Martin said that we had a wood-boring beetle that was going around the area and that the tree was most likely not going to make it. We then scheduled a time for Blooma to come out to remove it and they were there, on time and got the tree down in an efficient and safe manner. We waited a month for them to come out. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service they provided. Trees were very lightly thinned, but not trimmed, as requested. I had to cut hanging branches myself after they had left, and will need to hire another company to do the job right and trim branches I can't reach. They left twigs and small branches in the yard. The part of one tree hanging over the fence to our front sidewalk was not touched, yet they over-cut my bamboo. I would never recommend them. read more

Blooma performed another great tree servicing for me today! This was of 3 overgrown Japanese maples. The crew expertly "found the shape" of each tree and pruned away the excess, without pruning so much as to risk sunburn. They are beautiful now and should keep the shape for a few years without maintenance. (It is a much nicer result than if I had done it myself.) Blooma has previously performed both big jobs (eg climbing tree at back of lot, inaccessible by cherry-picker, to tie, cut and lower limbs) and small (eg a prior maple) for me. They use certified arborists even for the (free, on-site) estimates, are cost-competitive (slightly lower than the other estimates I got), do a superb job of property protection and cleanup, don't upsell (eg they explain how I can do the minimal maintenance myself, and why NOT to do more pruning than estimated), and explain what is needed and what they are doing. (On a previous job they even took extra time - on their dime - to carefully explain to my nervous neighbor what was happening.) They know & love trees. They are my go-to arborist now. read more

DO NOT SIGN ANY "BID PROPOSALS" WITH THIS COMPANY unless you are 100000% they will do the work! I wish I had seen other warnings here before dealing with this company. Saw their truck in my neighborhood - called them to schedule an appointment for a bid. Came out right away, gave me a bid on site (or what I thought was a bid) - Josiah stated that in order to start the work, they needed a $300 deposit to book a date because they were two months out. He was very persistent in signing the bid. Everyone is so busy in this market, I figured - OK, let's do that since it's impossible to get on anyone's calendars. Here is what you need to know - the "bid" is actually a contract for work - I never saw or was told to read the back of this bid that I was signing. If you are having someone enter into a contract, this needs to be explained or at least - FLIP OVER THE PAPER AND SHOW THE PERSON EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE SIGNING. I was explained that this was a bid, and a deposit was needed to put down a date. I also work in this business and not showing someone and explaining the BACK side of a bid (sorry, contract apparently) of what they are about to sign is downright slimy. And - they were so busy - I had to wait on them. In the meantime, we had to reschedule due to budgeting and some neighbor concerns. I call a second time to cancel (5 weeks in ADVANCE) and am told my deposit is Non-Refundable. That is when I was told I signed a contract - it's on the back side under "Liquidated Damages" and "this is a fairly standard contract - but, if we do the work - you get your money." Yeah - right now, I paid $300 for ZERO work done. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITH THESE GUYS!!!! There are plenty of people in this business and there is no need to feel pressured into signing a contract, which you may think is just a bid. Response to the owner's comment: Everything you stated, I stated right here. I am warning others to READ and don't sign anything! Sometimes situations happen and yes, are absolutely correct. We do not need the work done due to certain situations and you are happily keeping $300 of our money for no work ever performed. All that we have inconvenienced you with is a 30 minute consultation - I have to give consultations all the time and a lot of times, no work or payment comes of it. That's the nature of being a small business owner. If you are happy to keep my $300 for a short consultation and bid, then it is still my opinion that this is a slimy way to do business. read more

I called Blooma to set up a bid on our project of tree trimming and the removal of a dying tree. It was scheduled for a weeknight between 7-8pm, right at our dinner hour. So we planned ahead to be free to have the person come at that time. They never showed up, no phone call or anything. I was irked by the lack of respect I was shown by them so I emailed Blooma about the no show. I received a phone call from the owner and he apologized and said he never got the request from the person in the office about the appointment but he could be over in a few minutes to give us an estimate on the work. Martin showed up and walk through our property and wrote up an estimate of the work to be done and cost. He then has us sign the worksheet. He wanted a deposit and I didn't give it to him because I wasn't sure if I wanted them to do the work. The next day I received an email with the time they could schedule the work. I also had someone else come out the next day and give their bid on the work and we liked her offer and presence much better, half the price and more work was going to get done. My husband called Martin and cancelled the bid within 4 days after the initial visit, he had to leave a message because Martin did not answer the call nor did he call us back. 3 weeks later.... Yesterday I had a group of nice tree workers show up and start working on my property. I was so happy to have the work done. Some time went on and and I was wondering when they were going to get to the other aspects of the job that the woman of the other tree company and I discussed. Among much confusion I figured out that the company doing the work was Blooma and not the person I decided to use. They didn't have a sign on the vehicle that I could see and they didn't announce who they were when they came to the door. (I had an agreement with the other company that they would email me the morning that they were going to do the work and I would get ready for them). I even said to the kid that knocked that "I didn't get an email about showing up today but am happy anyway". Once I figured it out I wanted to get them to cease and desist but among the confusion of speaking with Martin everyone kept working. Martin called his office to see if we cancelled and also because I couldn't remember at this point if my husband sent an email cancelling the job or if he called, Martin said there was no email. My husband then had his IT Department check the phone logs and he did call and it was the right number, Martin said he didn't get the message that we cancelled. My husband called the office to speak with them there and was hung up on when he said his name. They emailed us saying that the call was dropped and that they called his business number back and couldn't leave a message (they have a front desk that answers and directs calls). This is a blatant lie. Martin chose to ignore the cancellation message and proceed anyway because what he had us sign was a CONTRACT NOT a bid proposal. This is a very UNETHICAL way to procure a contract. Everyone gets a window to decline a contract even when purchasing a home for substantial amounts of money. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITH THEM if your not sure. Martin you did a very nice job with our trees but your business practice in VERY, VERY UNETHICAL. For the quote, Martin was prompt and thorough in addressing all of our yard's needs. He furthermore recommended future work given his assessment on where the growth of less critical trees were relative to one another. Blooma did have long lead times (which they were upfront with me when I first contacted them), but I believe that to be representative on how well they are recommended as well as on the busy summer season. Martin and his team are fast and non-invasive. We had Martin come over to our house and access our landscape's needs -- we had no clue what we were doing, but we knew the yard needed some TLC. He made some suggestions and gave us an estimate. We scheduled to have them come out this summer. Well, they came. The team arrived on time and got to work immediately. They removed all the scheduled trees and began stump grinding. Unfortunately, the belt on the grinder broke in the middle of their work so they're coming by next week to finish the job, but Martin was very communicative and told us exactly what was going on. Our yard looks like a clean slate. You can't even tell where the trees were before, and we got a bunch of free wood out of it. And the price was reasonable (under estimate). Martin was so flexible with us and we were able to work out a payment plan, which helped us out a lot. The first time to give a quote on pruning a cypress limb which was leaning on our fence. He didn't bother quoting us and offered to hack the offending limb off with his hand saw for free! When it came time to have more intensive work done on those same trees, we chose Blooma. They did an excellent and speedy job clearing limbs from the right-of-way along the street and sidewalk without damaging the fence and cleaned everything thoroughly after finishing. Be warned from our experience, do not use Blooma Trees. Our greatest mistake was not reading through the Yelp and Better Business Bureau reviews before hiring. The reviews on BBB and the 1 and 2 star reviews here match much of our own experience. The company was horrific to work with and did not deliver with high quality or basic customer service. Martin, the owner and foreman of the crew, was hostile, rude and appeared agitated the entire time the crew was on our property. At one point, two of our neighbors called concerned about the man cursing in our yard. On top of the poor customer service and behavior, they butchered a number of our trees and we've subsequently needed to hire a different (much better) tree service to come out and repair the damage caused by Blooma. Blooma took no ownership over any of their actions and we are now taking the necessary steps to try and recoup our money. Don't make the same mistake, stay away. read more

I certainly feel that Bloom Tree deserves more than two stars. I have personally used this arborist on three separate occasions, and have referred him repeatedly. One of the jobs involved taking down a HUGE Deodor cedar that was in the power lines and was a neighborhood nuisance. Martin did a great job. He also was substantially lower cost than other bids I got and was available when I needed him. I have also referred him to my boss, my coworker, a friend, and to my church - and most recently, my neighbor. In all cases, everyone has been delighted with the service offered. Most recently - In July 2012 - my neighbor wanted three trees removed because they were sick and in danger of falling on her - and my - house. She got quotes from other tree services before I recommended Blooma. Blooma was the lowest bid. They did a very professional job, and Zoka showed up on Friday to get rid of the stumps. To the woman below with the long review about how she didn't get the change order she wanted on a Friday - you should know that the crew probably needs more than a day's notice, and I'm very surprised you had a problem. Martin even works on Sundays and has often called me on the weekend to discuss a job. He is VERY responsive. But I've found that stump grinding day for Blooma Is Friday. It is not that Blooma doesn't want to work on Friday. They are so good that they are often booked for work on a Friday because they grind all the stumps of the trees they cut down that week. As I said, I truly believe this arborist is worth more than two stars. I have had a very satisfactory experience. No, I'm not related to Martin, and no, I didn't get paid to say this. I immediately noticed their Safety practices where the man in the tree always knew where the guys on the ground were and those on the ground ensured he knew when they were going in to clean debris as the process continued. This was a "HUGE" impressiveness to me. I thought the crew was very professional and they did everything that was agreed upon on my work order.
