DO NOT ASK FOR A FREE MONTH!!! IT IS A SCAM AND A HOKEY BS SITE!!!!! I wanted to try this for a…read moremonth and the guidelines are misleading. I am SO MAD! What was meant to be a month has lead to a lie and now I am paying for NOTHING! It does not work. I am fit, looking for some non-invasive work and I was scammed to the max.

...y'all are so lucky right now…read more Why? Because I'm sharing this gem with you (while I'd much, MUCH rather keep it to myself). Seriously. Nordeast Yoga is what got me into yoga. Period. I was going through a very...let's call it "transitional" time 1.5 years ago, and I deeply credit Nordeast Yoga for helping me successfully live through it without going insane - as a place for grounding, being mindful, and bettering myself both physically and mentally. I'm a huge fan of yoga now thanks to Nordeast. The studio space itself is beautiful: hardwood floors, large windows that let in floods of sunlight, exposed brick...it's really perfect. In the evening, classes are naturally lit with the setting sun and candles. Each instructor has something very unique to offer. Classes range from higher levels in yoga ability to straight up beginner, some are more meditative, others are a fantastic blend of meditation meets a pretty intense (and satisfying) workout. I also appreciate the adjustments when I'm in a pose. I've taken both Annie or Christy's classes and both are absolutely wonderful yoga teachers. I also am a BIG fan of their music choices (what is up with yoga and bad music!?), especially Yoga a-Go-Go. Once a month, there's even metal yoga, and nothing says warrior 2 quite like Iron Maiden. Drop-In class prices are about $13, and you can also purchase monthly passes (with a bonus free beer at its completion!). Class times vary (and it's a one-studio space), so definitely check the schedule on their website to find the best class/time for you. Soooo yeah. Nordeast Yoga is amazing. Definitely check it out. You're welcome.

Wow! I had a couple friends tell me this place was the bomb dot com but I had no idea. I went to…read moreCommon Ground for a meditation on Sunday but arrived a little late and didn't want to interrupt the session. Lucky for me, I was able to come back a few weeks later for a people of color meditation session. Whaaaaaa!!! I didn't know they had such things! You get to the center and if it's not super busy you can park in the lot. For most of their bigger events or weekend meditation days you'll want to get there plenty early since it fills up fast. When you enter there are spots for your shoes (like a yoga studio) and coat hangers. They recommend you take any valuables with you or don't bring them since it not a monitored area. There are two meditation rooms on the first floor, one with a kitchen where you can get tea or water if there's not a session happening. The second is a large room where we had the people of color event. Chairs, blankets and cushions are provided so you don't have to worry about buying anything. The instructors and space are very welcoming. They have great ways to ground and connect everyone together quickly but also authentically. I'm definitely going back, it was a great experience and you learn about mindfulness, Buddhism and the practice.

I absolutely adore this hidden gem for regaining your Zen! I've been to other Buddhist Meditation…read morecenters in Minneapolis and have felt somewhat intimidated.. This place and it's participants are so approachable and its philosophy entirely undogmatic. I go to the Sunday morning 10:30 a.m. Dharma talks. If you're a Mama or Papa you can even bring your 1-8 year old to be part of the kids group while you get your Buddha on. The space is small, spare, and perfectly relaxing. Sit on a chair or cushion and choose to donate whatever amount you're comfortable with for all activities. They have any number of special issue groups, retreats, yoga, T'ai Chi, and even a program for teenagers. Mark is insightful without being at all preachy or superior. I LOVE that after the talk, participants ask questions regarding real world challenges they are facing in terms of integrating their practice into their daily lives. Somehow it manages to make that day's talk clearly applicable to everday life without feeling as though anyone is engaging in 'T.M.I.' or some sort of New Agey therapy group. I float out feeling much lighter and calmer!

Northeast

Great location, good workouts, and nice facility…read more Right now, the Northeast studio can be a little difficult to get to because of all of the street construction, but the businesses are operating normally. YogaFit has a nice corner location on a slightly quieter street, so the studio feels private, but also has natural light from the windows. It offers traditional yoga, barre and more strength-focused classes, called Burn classes. The studio itself is very nice and clean, with well-maintained equipment and built-in ballet bars around the room. The bar and burn classes are typically 45-50 minutes long, and start with about 10 minutes of light stretching/warm up, and a 5-7 minute cool down. Aside from that, the instructors can create their own class plans, so you are never quite sure what muscle groups you will be focusing on that day. Burn features loud, up-beat music that you move to (it is cool to see the whole class moving in synchrony). The classes focus on repeating slower, controlled movements and on static holds, so you are mainly using lighter weights. I was definitely sore after a barre class that worked quads for a few sections, and we didn't even use weights for that one! So while I thought the class quality, instructors and facility were great (they have a fairly good distribution of class times, including early in the morning) it was hard to get a whole-body work out with just one class, due to time constraints. For example, really burning out the triceps requires time that can't be used for a different muscle group when you are only working for ~30 minutes of class time. Class plans are a little expensive, considering this might be an additional membership (this area seems pricey in general), though they do offer a discount if you sign up after the free trial week. They also have a run club that meets twice monthly at different locations. I would use these classes as an addition to another full gym membership, not as my only fitness method. Maybe if classes were a little longer they might be able to get more complete work in each time. So while it wasn't a perfect fit for me, it was still a lot of fun, and might be great for someone looking for an additional type of workout or who only needs light weights. Give it a try with their free trial week!

I love taking classes from Claire (Yoga Barre) and Kaya, Rachel, and Beryl (Yoga Burn). They are all great instructors. They have good cues, good music taste, and they make classes fun. I don't mind waking up for 6:15am classes on the weekday and 9:00am classes on the weekend because I always feel great after class.
