This place is a cute, local, barre studio. I love that it has a local feel not like the national chain barre places. The workout is no joke, you start with cardio and move into more strength movements through your the class. I also want to mention the view! The class overlooks the lake, which I find very calming during the workout. read more

This boutique studio is one of the best I've been too. When the instructor tells the class to turn toward the side of the room with a view you'll realize how lucky you are. This studio sits on a corner lot on the second floor in downtown Wayzata overlooking Lake Minnetonka. The staff here are always welcoming and the instructors are top-notch. My favorite will always be Rachel T. (one of the owners). Class size is small so you really feel like you get that extra attention you sometimes need. I always leave here feeling like I had a great workout and really worked hard. This studio offers a variety of classes throughout the day. If I was in closer proximity I'd come more often. Classes are pricey though and it's expensive to be a member here. All kinds of packages are available but a 3-6 month pass ranges from $300-500. I love this studio but not sure it's worth these prices to me. read more

..Heartless Actions Induced by Fear... A Review of The Barre in Wayzata Today I woke up so excited...it was like Christmas morning! Today was the day I was FINALLY going to get a 60 minute class in for me. Since George was born, going back to teaching after my maternity leave and the huge move, my poor body has been neglected and I have been struggling to feel like myself for some time now. So needless to say - I WAS SO EXCITED and so ready for 60 minutes of me time. I arrived at The Barre in Wayzata with my new workout clothes on that were spit-up free and a huge grin on my face. I informed the gal at the front desk I was new to their studio, and she asked if I had taken barre before. I responded honestly, as I always do...Yes, I actually teach barre at a yoga studio in White Bear Lake. Immediately, I was told I was not allowed to take class as I am a competitor. My first reaction was shock and this has to be a joke, but unfortunately this was no joke. I was absolutely heartbroken and broke down in tears in their lobby. I could not believe I could overcome all the obstacles that would prevent me from actually making it to the studio to then be told so heartlessly I am not allowed to take a class at their studio. I was crying so hard and begging the owner, Rachel Tessalone, to please let me move my body, you have no idea how bad I need this and how hard it was to just get to the studio. Sadly, I got the boot out the front door. I sat on the corner and cried a good 20 minutes. I had never felt so hurt and so unwelcomed before in my life. My excitement to meet the new community I just moved into, to move my body, and to celebrate 60 minutes of me time was quickly taken away by a women in fear. It truly makes me sad that we live in a world that fear can induce such heartless actions. Such fear that because I am "competitor" I am simply unwelcomed versus learning and growing from one another. Such fear that a new mom trying to find an outlet for herself is brought to tears and made to feel so incredibly bad and embarrassed. I thought the wellness industry, which I have worked in for 15+ years, was supposed to make people feel good, empowered, and happy... I guess not if fear is powering your actions and policies. I will continue to work hard not to let fear lead my actions. I've been to 2 classes so far, both Mini Barres. First-- super cute space. It's warm and boutique-y. It feels special, like the business owner has had a good time envisioning the space and creating it's personality. Staff have been friendly, helpful, informative. The workouts have left me sore. I'm out of shape, so to be fair, it doesn't take much to make me hurt right now. :) But it appears everyone is challenged at their varied levels. Music varies with the instructor. Best part: the barre room. Tons of windows and natural light, and overlooking the Lake. Beautiful! Inspires me to work harder. And makes me look forward to going. Price: steep. A bit to be expected in Wayzata, and lake views have never been cheap. :). But it is enough to deter me from making this place my sole workout destination. I'll just supplement it with some other more cost-effective options. read more

Starting with the BEAUTIFUL view of Wayzata Bay this place is absolutely gorgeous. I went here for my first Barre workout and this studio did not disappoint. The instructor was super nice and corrected me every time I was out of proper form, which really helped me, and she was great with motivation on the mic. This studio is very well kept and maintained. For a location that has been around for 3 years you wouldn't be able to tell, everything looks brand new! As for the workout itself it was probably one of the best workouts I have experienced. You work your whole body and by the end of the class almost every muscle is shaking. This was my first time experiencing a Barre workout and I know that I will be back for more. I would highly recommend this studio to any one looking to try Barre or continue their Barre workouts. Everyone is so nice here and it was just an overall great environment! read more

Went to the 10:30 AM class last Wednesday morning. The teacher taught off beat and the choreography was not accessible . I'm a fitness/yoga/barre instructor and the movements in the body didn't feel natural. Not sure if this was a new instructor but she taught the right side for a long time and anything we did on the left side was shortened quite a bit. It seemed like she ran out of time for class. Some of the moves were nice however I have a hard time moving off beat to the music. I found myself doing my own thing for most the class. I was disappointed as this location works well for me. It is also a beautiful studio! Too bad it's more than the physical studio. It gets worse two more times... I decided to give them another try Monday morning at 9:30 AM. I was set up for class and waiting for to begin when a woman in street clothes with her children on hip and in hand came up to me and asked my name. She told me I had to leave. I was humiliated! I found out I had to leave because I'm in a fitness instructor! This woman identified herself as the owner and said she felt so bad all the while enforcing her own rule (insert weird). She communicated they have a policy against any fitness instructor attending any of their classes. She indicated a fear that I or any other fitness instructor would steal moves away. She kept apologizing saying that she felt so bad. Here is the deal, if you feel that bad, it is a conviction that you're doing something wrong. Adding insult to injury, in the 10 minutes I was there someone stole my shoes! So I was kicked out of class because of who I am, a fitness instructor, and then had to leave without shoes! read more

Amazing workout. Strong and inspiring women who encourage each other every class. I love this place!

Visiting Minneapolis I tried the Barre and was really delighted. I was welcomed, the space was airy, light, and had a beautiful view. The workout was excellent and took the usual Barre class up a notch. The teacher was high energy, encouraging, and the class flew by! And I was sore after. All in all a great experience and if I lived in MN, I'd definitely be back! read more

That one bad review is unfortunate, since this place is pretty nice. The facility's location cant be beat - it overlooks Lake Minnetonka - and the studio is very pretty and clean. The staff is nice and the instructor I had - Jill? - was in crazy good shape. I wish there was more cardio, but it was a good workout. My only other issue was with the music. There was this scary goth/industrial thing going on that was laughably inappropriate. read more

Wonderful workout and wonderful place!! Rachel & Paula are so nice and welcoming and all their instructors are great! The child care is also great- we started going when my son was a new baby and I never had to worry about him during class! read more

I love this place! The instructors are all very nice and helpful. I started going with my mom and she has misaligned hips. She can't always do the moves and needs to take breaks but the instructors always encourage her and let her take things at a comfortable pace. They always say it's your own workout so do what's best for you. Sometimes it's really hard. I did mini barre one day and we did 60 push ups in a row. That was killer but each class is very rewarding. It's also beautiful to work out while looking out onto Lake Minnetonka. I bought the 3 month student package so I can work out whenever I want. This very cost effective because I work out there almost every day! read more

I have been going here since they opened two years ago. The instructors are all very nice and helpful, the location and view can't be beat. Here and there they get a little too peppy for me but I get a great workout and best part is, I am in great shape from it with no injuries. As for the lady who didn't get a good workout the first time she went...I didn't either., because I wasn't doing it properly. The longer you go, the better your form gets and the better workout you get. Can't even compare this to a yoga sculpt class. It's not yoga. Sad people write reviews like this affecting small businesses that they have patronized once. read more

If you are a Barre enthusiast, than look no further than The Barre!!! They have clearly invested a lot of time and energy into crafting THE BEST BARRE WORKOUT in the Twin Cities! Their passion and dedication to the barre method is truly one of a kind and evident in the way they instruct class and treat clientele. And best of all, they offer childcare for all us moms who need our "me time"!! In studio instruction along with the online video streaming they offer can't be beat! read more

I went to the Barre in Wayzata to try the new classes. I have done plenty of Yoga Sculpt classes at Corepower and Lifetime Fitness, so I thought this Barre class would be super challenging. After going to my first barre class, I wasn't impressed with it at all. I thought it would be a lot more challenging. I don't think each class is worth $22. I feel I get a better workout at a Yoga Sculpt class. I think its expensive for what they are charging their customers. Just wait for Lifetime Fitness to bring it to their clubs and I would be more apt to try it there since all of there fitness classes are free with membership. I wouldn't go back to the Barre again. I will stick with Corepower and Lifetime Fitness. read more

Great environment, people, and workout! I attended a class while visiting family in Minnesota. I have been to barre classes before that felt impersonal due to the size of the classes. The Barre has a more intimate feel. Making it more comfortable to really get into the work out and truly focus on isolating those muscles. The instructor was able to gently correct any of my improper form to facilitate a better work out for me that left me feeling refreshed and renewed. The teacher and attendees were welcoming and encouraging. The studio has an open feel with a great view of Lake Minnetonka. I will definitely go again. read more

The Barre in Wayzata is wonderful. I really don't understand the bad review. Maybe that person went to the other barre studio in Wayzata. Being very out of shape, I was extremely intimidated walking into a fitness environment. I walked in and Stacey made me feel welcome and comfortable. Both owners teach classes. They, and all of the other instructors I have had, are truly amazing. They've done a great job of training their instructors to be helpful, supportive, motivating, and tough. I'm always sore the next day. The classes are always challenging. I have been doing them for a long time and they don't get easier. I've been in class with hard core body builders, runners, spinning instructors, yogis, etc., all of whom said that this workout kicked their butts. Barre is more of a sculpting/toning workout. I don't think it's intended to be a cardio workout. It is the kind of workout where you control your resistance and intensity. Basically, you get out of it what you put into it. The location is amazing. The studio overlooks Lake Minnetonka. You are actually looking at Wayzata Bay while you are in class. The design feels very contemporary and spa-like. They put a lot of thought into making their studio a comfortable environment for women. (I believe men are welcome, but I've only seen them there a couple times.) They have hot tea and fruit infused water for their clients, they have toilettry items available in the bathroom (ie. hair binders, hair spray, bobby pins, tampons, etc.), they have a waiting area with fitness and fashion magazines, and they have child care available for small children during their midday classes. As far as the cost is concerned, they have some unlimited month packages that bring down the per class cost quite a bit. I would highly recommend this class and studio to anyone of any age or fitness level. read more
