They had the booths closed off for an event (music artist), but allowed us to sit at the bar for some drinks. My guy got the Paloma Flora and I got the Sexecutive. His was okay, but I LOVED my drink! It was too good honestly. Very dangerous! You don't see a lot of drinks with rhubarb so this is a creative one for sure. This bar supports a lot of local artists with events and allowing them to sell their items here. I got a really unique pair of blue leather earrings from a vendor once! It's the biggest highlight of this place for me.

There are little sections separated by railings, which add a little separation. We paid for the VIP up top (not the four-top tables). We could choose to sit on a counter/bar stool with a thin-line bar top. But, it was farther back and you looked down at the people in front of you. So we moved to the right side in a standing section. The best! On the rail. Had a table to set drinks on. Private bathroom for upper level guests. Way worth it. One thing I wish they did was sell the 4-tops in twos. They are great. It, it's not always easy getting four people together for a show. Oh. Parking is a breeze. Lots of space for dancing and letting our little hearts live in the music. Would totally come back or another event here!

She was not wrong.. this place reminds me of all the small bars I grew up going to in the bay area. Since I wasn't familiar with either of the bands music, I can't really rate the sound. I did like the artists though and they had quite a fan base. The lights were crazy. I could only sometimes catch glances of the headlining artist but couldn't have explained what he looked like. I'm glad I'm not sensitive to strobe lights. I imagine this was the artists choice. All in all, I enjoyed myself and hope to catch more music here in the future.

Loved how there wasn't a huge line to get in or at the bar to order drinks. There were a lot of people but it wasn't super packed/cramped so there was actually space for you to move around/not always be bumping into someone. METE plays the best music out of every bar I've been to in both PB or Gaslamp. I'm not a huge fan of hearing pop/country/ when I'm out so highly recommend coming here if you love rap!

Actually, there isn't much of that downtown, and, frankly, there's just not the quality of this downtown. We tried two the inspired dishes and they didn't disappoint, in fact they've got something on top rung. Service is another thing. People came and went fast - but there was always someone on thier way. The Chef even stopped by to ask us how things were - honestly, something more places should let happen. Bartender knows the way to mix, with some good versions of favorites. METE is a new turn on something San Diego used to have lots of - Supper Clubs. It's picking up fast (we tried to come a week prior, but the line was long - we made reservations to get our foot in), and probably gonna be one of those places you wish you went early on. We're glad we did. It's legit new design inside - none of the tired 'industrial' look that's overused in San Diego, none of the chrome and wood look that someplaces try. It's got it's own high energy vibe to it that's finally bringing something San Diego's needed for a long time.

I parked on the street close to the dinner spot I went to and then walked over to Charade. Ambiance (5/5): Charade is a speakeasy so here's your clue. It's located inside Balboa. Look for the room with the arcade games and you're on the right track. Once you enter the speakeasy, you'll immediately be impressed with the old school charm. It seats roughly 20-30 people and there's a bar on one end and a stage on the other end. Old school red curtains add to the vibe. And here's the best part. On Mondays, it's jazz night. Local musicians will play which makes for a great time. Service (3/5): There was one bartender working when we were there. Overall, she provided pretty good service. There was one comment she made which rubbed me the wrong way but no biggie. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so were on a liquid diet. I did notice that they have a few snacks available like popcorn. Drinks (4.5/5): When you think of speakeasies, you think of elevated cocktails. I look for creativity and an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. The menu here, while not huge, has some interesting options. Outside of the menu itself, the prices are reasonable (especially for California). And they make you stiff drinks which is always appreciated. Taking into account the cocktails and the ambiance, Charade is an awesome laid-back speakeasy. Make sure to stop by on a Monday for jazz night. That takes things up a notch.

When my group got up to the front, they were patted down, had their bags looked thru, etc. That was fine, but as I was in the back, I saw that no one going in and they were just looking at each other. When I got thru and asked the ones in front of me what was up, they said that the guy was trying to charge them $90 per person. I already had my phone out to pay, so I went to the front to tap, and when the guy saw I was gonna pay, he just opened a random app on his phone and punched in $270 for my total that I was gonna pay for. There were no ticket prices, he just put in any number he wanted. CRAZY. When I saw him do that, I called him out for it, and said, "Oh, so you're just choose whatever number you want. $270 just to get in? No we're good." When I started walking away, a different worker from behind him tried to offer a $75 ticket price per person in my group but we just went to another place with no cover fee as it was still only 10 pm. I've been clubbing all over, and the most I've ever been charged is a $30 per person entry fee for a nightclub of equal value and that was for a LATE night entry. ESPECIALLY for it being only 10pm, most clubs in DTLA, DT Pomona, DT Fullerton, and WeHo wouldn't even be charging yet.

I felt more and more uneasy. And it felt as if the bartender didn't even want to serve us. The atmosphere was just odd and I can't tell if it's because I'm younger (most people there look 50 and older), or if I don't look like I belong to San Diego or if I'm clearly new to the area or if it's because I stick to the group I came with or if our Spanish is from a different country or what. The place clearly has a solid group of people who always come around. Which is cool. The place has character, which you always want in a place. But I rather spend my money at a place where people acknowledge your existence and it doesn't feel like they are annoyed that I'm there.

I highly recommend signing up for an evening with Club Train versus just going out and showing up…read moreat a club on your own. No lines, no hassle, no cover fees and a free drink (shot) to start. I also enjoyed the entourage aspect of it with our Club Train leaders Alex and Vince, dressed in dapper bow ties and suits, shepherding us around the Gaslamp district of downtown San Diego. I tried out Club Train last weekend (bought my ticket through Pacific SD Magazine for extra savings). The itinerary included a set schedule for visits to Don Chido, F6ix, Side Bar and FLUXX with an hour at each location and 90 minutes at the last one. The evening was slow to start, as my friend and I found ourselves bored at our first stop, the new bar/restaurant Don Chido, where the group was to meet and depart to the clubs. If we could do it again, we would've shown up later for that first stop because it was not necessary to be there the whole first hour. We were told by our Club Train organizers that there were food and drinks specials at Don Chido. When we got there, we were seated at a table, then ignored by waitstaff for a long time before we finally asked someone who then told us we had to get drinks at the bar in order to get our Club Train deal. Also, we were told by the Don Chido staff there were no food specials. By showing our Club Train wristbands, we ended up with $5 margaritas (half price!) from the bar so it wasn't a complete loss but we felt like we wasted a lot of time in Don Chido and that the night was off to a rough start. Once our group leader summoned all of us (around 30 people), things went smoother as we then proceeded to each club. The evening then flew by as we had about an hour in each venue. Our Club Train leaders escorted us as a group from club to club but it was fine when we twiced missed our group leaving. We were still able to follow on our own with our wristbands. It was nice to be taken care of but not completely babysat, as once you are inside the club you're on your own. I didn't get a chance to talk to other members of our group, but theoretically you could probably make new friends in Club Train. A Club Train ticket normally costs $30, but I got the magazine deal where it was $20 with fees (total $22), which is a steal. The highlight of Club Train was the group photo at the end of the night. The group leaders always have the group gather together and take a photo in the middle of Market Street which is a lot of fun. Timing is everything with the traffic lights!
