Decent enough little bar and cafe serving lots of 'koktejly' and shots. It was very quiet when we went in on a Thursday night, but the barman was very friendly and smiley and made us feel welcome. It's dark inside the bar and they play a lot of British ballads on the large flat screen TV at the back, giving the joint the feel of a place for lost or jilted lovers!
There is an absolutely fantastic photograph of Jack Nicholson hanging on the wall where he is holding a magnifying glass over his mouth and the most sinister grin in cinematic history explodes out of the frame. I want my own copy of that photo.
We had a couple of Cubra Libres and then, to my delight, I found a shot that I hadn't had since a trip to Cologne in 2001. It's called a 'koks' (it was called a Russian Cock in Cologne) and is a shot glass full of Vodka with half a slice of lemon balanced on top of the glass and a line of coffee granules and sugar on top of the lemon. Sounds off the wall huh? You shove the lemon in your mouth and suck off the sugar and the coffee granules and then down the vodka shot. It's a taste sensation! The coffee melts and lines your mouth and you can taste it for ages after.
I had two koks and floated all the way back to the hotel. read more
