I've now booked two appointments here, and both times I left with no service, wasted time, wasted gas, and no blowout for important events. I love getting a blowout before trips or special occasions so I can feel put‑together and low‑maintenance, but this place made that impossible. First appointment: I arrived on time the day of my trip. They were running 20 minutes behind with no warning, no courtesy call, no attempt to adjust or offer another stylist. I had to cancel because it would've thrown off the rest of my schedule. I ended up going on my trip without my hair done. I let it go and decided to give them another chance months later. Big mistake. Second appointment: I showed up on time again. It was over 90 degrees outside, and the stylist was standing outside because she couldn't get into the building -- someone had taken the keys. I've never experienced anything like this at any reputable salon. We stood there awkwardly in the heat, eating into my appointment time, again with no call, no warning, nothing. After about 12 minutes of waiting, I told her this was the second time something like this had happened. Once again no solution and no offer to make it right. Just indifference. And once again, I was left without a blowout for another special event. On top of all this, their prices have gone up, and the attitude here is not pleasant. Ladies, do not trust this place for a blowout or any hairstyle. They do not value your time, your schedule, or your important events. Absolutely horrible service. I had a membership here for 2 years and was a loyal, consistent client. I called to reschedule my hair appointment, but instead of rescheduling, they cancelled it without telling me. On the day I thought I had my appointment, I arrived at the shop, only for the stylist to say, "Someone cancelled your appointment." When I explained it was their mistake, I asked what could be done, and she ignored my concern and rudely replied, "What do you want me to do about it? It's not my problem." Walking into Blo, I was impressed with its clean style. The 90s/2000s hip-hop playing overhead was just the right volume and the other stylists were friendly, offering up quick smiles. The last time I had my makeup professionally done was for my wedding more than 23 years ago. This was much easier as I really appreciate the work Kimberly put into it. CURLY HAIR WOMEN PLEASE READ AND RECONSIDER!! First off, I re read my first review back in 2016 and that stands true. Back then the old management and staff were top tier. I will forever hold those awesome memories. I am not here to bash anyone nor do I even like writing this review. But it is out of frustration and upset for my daughter for her horrific hair after she left dry bar. My daughter has naturally curly hair as seen in two photos I posted. The one with her back photo wearing a red back pack and the front one of her smiling. That is her natural curly hair. She goes to blo blow dry bar ONCE a year for her hair straightened for her dances at school. Other then that she NEVER PUTS HEAT TO HER HAIR AT HOME AT ALL. NEVER. She takes care of her curls with the utmost care. Yes, I did go as far as have proof she doesn't straighten her hair we have security cameras around whole property that clearly shows her EVERYDAY TIME STAMPED OF HER CURLY HAIR IT IS NEVER STRAIGHTENED OR ANY HEAT TO IT! She got her hair straightened by Rita who claims there was no smoke smell or burning smell when straightening her hair. My daughter is 17 in high school who doesn't pay for her services. I DO. She has no reason to lie. My daughter stated there was ALOT OF SMOKE. My daughter did love her hair after the curls and the hair were GREAT! It wasn't until the next day she washed her hair to go back to her normal curls and the curls did not return!!!!!! It went from bad to worse. She washed several times we treated her hair with expensive products anyone who suggested a product ,we tried. Her curls have not fully returned. Her hair is damaged beyond repair. If you have curly hair you know that curly hair is your identity. My heart hurts for my daughter who is about to graduate from high school with DAMAGED HAIR. To make matters worse the owner who text me said verbatim - that this one wash couldn't have damaged her hair. It's really upsetting these women at this facility take no accountability or responsibility. When I spoke to Rita she repeated herself over and over how they don't use chemicals in her hair etc etc. That is not what I'm claiming happened. She had a horrible smell to her hair after her first wash which I only could describe it as a perm smell. I know they don't use any chemicals I KNOW THAT. But her hair is damaged. Her curls are gone. I requested a refund and we will never be back. This shouldn't have never happened. We still have not resolved this matter. Each day we are reminded of this traumatic experience with my daughter not having her curls back. They offered for us to come in, but why would we want to theres nothing they can do to repair this. Their products don't work. I would like reimbursement on the $300 worth of products we have spent!!!! If you have curly hair please reconsider. They have damaged my daughters hair and we still are unsure how to finally put this to bed. read more

I came here a few days before the holiday weekend for a blow dry and curls. The stylist was so nice and helpful. I let her know that I was looking for something to last a few days (through Christmas) but for a loose curl look. She made suggestions on how we can achieve that and keep the style to last the next couple days. The service itself was good. It did however feel that their stylists are rushed through appointments. My service started maybe 5 minutes later than my official appointment time, which was no problem for me. But once it was hitting the 45 minute mark, she quickly wrapped up the service. The styling was good but within two to three hours my hair lost all the curls. I ended up redoing my hair myself the next day. My impression is stylists may be pressured to push people out every 45 minutes and maybe offering a little buffer time would enhance the experience for customers. read more

I was able to book my first visit at Blo Bar through Class Pass and I think I'll need to come visit this place as a self care treat next time! If you do book via class pass, I would recommend bringing cash for tip or I saw a lot of the stylist are able to receive tip digitally (Venmo). My appointment was at 10:30 am, but I showed up 15 mins early cause I thought parking would be a problem (it was not) and Joanna was able to take me right away! She was really sweet and since it was my first time she explained the concept of the salon; it is not a full service salon, but they mainly offer hair treatments, hair extensions, hair styling and I believe certain stylists also offer makeup. This is probably the best place to take teenagers that need to get their hair done for prom/school dance (not sure if anyone does that anymore lol) or even a bridal party because their services are much more affordable than an independent artist! read more

First of all, it smells really bad in the salon. Like sulfur bad. The person who checked me in acknowledged it. I had an 8:30 appt for a "silky smooth flat iron press". I specifically picked this process because I have naturally curly hair, was taking off for a few days and wanted to have smooth hair that I could comb out for a few days. At 8:45, joanna was finishing with her appt, was ringing them up and offered me a water, coffee or wine. We went over to her station, talked about what I was looking for. I showed her pictures of someone who has naturally curly hair and the effect I was looking for. I also explained that the whole reason I was there was that I was headed out for the weekend and wanted smooth, maintenance free hair. I specifically booked the most intense service because it said it would hold, even through a few washes. After my hair was washed she put product in my hair. I asked how the service I was purchasing differed from a regular blowout. She said that service used a different product than what she had put in my hair and she would have to search for it. She made zero effort to do so. She said, let's see how your hair responds to a regular blowout and I will change your appointment to reflect the regular blowout. I said fine. It looked nice when she was done. It didn't hold more than a day. I know my hair, I'm 50 plus, so I knew I needed a strong hold and process and was willing to pay for it. Update as of June 15, 2023: The number of stars is for Issa, NOT Rene, fyi. Rene, one of the managers, offered to redo my hair and she was absolutley AMAZING! I am normally not interested in chit chat AT ALL, but she was so much fun to talk to it was ME talking to her for quite a bit. She was so relatable and knew how to do 4C hair. I've honestly never seen my curls straighten out this long before. Rene truly put in the effort. I was so grateful for her competence and social skills that even though the service was supposed to be complimentary, I went ahead and paid full price (by my own free will) at the end. I just might go back. Thank you!!!! Just got home. This is how Issa left me. She BARELY shampoo'd my hair. I had to ask her several times to please shampoo my hair because it needed a clean before straightening. She just let the shampoo sit in my hair, NO WASH and NO effort what so ever until I asked! When I asked for a fresh towel to wipe the water running into my eyes, she gave me a towel with with strings of blonde hairs stuck in it....which isn't her fault, its the business for not carefully inspecting their towels after each wash, but it was still gross. Then, she used ZERO protectant on my 4C hair, but instead tried to pass the "shine spray" off as heat protectant. She kept saying "Oh, I forgot" when I would ask her why she wasn't using the "heat protectant". I had to brush out my own ends in her chair because she had absolutely NO idea what she was doing and was letting balls of my hair knot up. She kept saying "If you are uncomfortable, I totally understand. You can leave at any point and we wont charge you." There was so much smoke coming off my hair, I eventually took her up on her offer and politely asked to leave. I've had my hair done by white women, South American women, Hispanic women, Egyptians, you name it. They have all done a FABULOUS job. Ethnicity plays no role in how well a stylist does. I honestly believe Issa just did not feel like doing 4C hair today because it takes effort, something she didn't feel like putting up, and did everything in her power to get me to leave. I made and appt with Elizabeth 12 pm on a Sunday of a long weekend. I was taken care of on time. She asked me what I was looking for and showed her a picture. She asked if I was okay with hair products and got right to it. I was done in 1 hour. My hair stayed through out the wedding in the humidity and from dancing. The blow out is $55. A friend recommended Blo because she visted the Carlsbad location, and had a good experience. First let me start off by saying - this review isn't for the stylist that did my hair, but more so for management. I booked a regular blow out for my birthday that recently passed. My appointment was for 915am, and I was taken to the chair around 930am. My hair was shampooed once, and I inquired about a deep condition but was told I needed to book another blow out that included the deep condition - ok no problem - now I know for next time as this was my first time visiting Blo. My stylist Gloria did a nice job, and was very polite & pleasant. After my blow out was complete I went to the front desk, and was told my blow out would be $70. I was confused, because when I booked it said $55. I inquired about the $15 upcharge, and was told that because my blow out took longer than 45mins I was required to pay more. As I was inquiring about the charge a manager approached and begin telling me about the 45min policy, and essentially demanded I pay the $15 extra charge. I was also told that it was my fault that I booked the wrong service, because I should have booked a blow out with extended time. Again - this was my first time at this establishment and I was unaware that a stylist would take longer than 45mins to blow my hair out. The manager even begin to tell me about my textured hair, and how she's one of the fastest stylists in the shop and how there was no way she would have been able to complete my hair in 45mins. She then asked me has anyone have been able to blow dry my hair in 45mins. I felt completely insulted. I tried my best to keep my cool, but there were so many things said that were completely inappropriate. Just for people reading this review - I'm Black & Puerto Rican and my hair is a little past my shoulders as I recently cut it. My hair is VERY soft & super manageable for any ethnicity to do my hair. Suggestions to the owner of this establishment- Please work on customer service training for your managers, and front desk staff. If a service is going to take longer than expected - inform the customer & explain the price difference prior to them checking out. Because at the end of the day - I had the $70 to pay, but it was the principal. Being told that it was my fault for booking the wrong service is completely unacceptable. And expecting to pay one price when walking in, and being told another price at checkout is unacceptable. What if I only walked in there with $55? Maybe when a client is taken back for a wash - explain to them if the blowout takes longer than 45mins they will be charged additional, and ask if that's ok with them. Unfortunately, I don't plan on visiting this establishment in the future or recommending it to anyone I know because I believe $70 for a blowout is absurd. Was looking for a place to get both my hair and makeup done and found Blo La Mesa. Although I live 20 miles away in La Jolla, I made an appointment here because they offer both hair and makeup services. I loved how my makeup and hair turned out! I showed my stylist pictures of hair and makeup inspiration and she was able to follow.She was so attentive and asked me to check my makeup before she was done. I pointed out a few concerns and she fixed them right away! The staff was very accommodating! I seemed to have mixed up my appointment time so was unknowingly running late. They gave me a call and were able to wait for me to arrive and complete both services. I was getting my hair and makeup done for engagement photos so I'm so appreciative that they were able to accommodate me even with the mixup!! I get a call this morning the day before saying that the stylist that I booked was unable to perform my service and I could be rebooked at 12 pm instead of my 9:15 am appointment. I told her that wouldn't work because we had to leave at that time to travel to the wedding, she offered another time slot of 10:30, but I had another appointment at that time. Now I'm left without someone to do my hair the day before the event. I've spent the rest of my morning calling other salons to book a service, but unfortunately since it's so last minute there are no openings. I have been a member for almost 2 years and have always been satisfied with my hair. Today after getting my hair done someone called me and said since I have extensions I'm not paying for the right membership and would have to pay more for a different membership. I explained that I have never had extensions and they proceeded to tell me that it took over 45 minutes to do my hair and that is another criteria to pay for more for a different membership.
