Went back to get a refill of shampoo (mind you I have been coming here for my shampoo and conditioner for years) and they raised prices but now by charging per ounce and then charged me for 33 ounces and BOTH are not even filled all the way and not even enough to where I'd be charged an extra ounce. $54 dollars and now I definitely won't be back. read more

I've never written a review before, but I genuinely feel I have to after what happened. I'm at such a loss for words over how my hair turned out. Every time I look in the mirror, I just want to cry. I have naturally strawberry blonde hair that I had previously bleached, so I had grown-out roots. I went in with a very clear goal: I just wanted to tone down the blonde and blend it to match my natural color. I EXPLICITLY SAID I DID NOT WANT TO GO BRUNETTE. The stylist used permanent dye and turned my hair a dark brown. I told her right away that I didn't like it and asked if we could lighten it. She attempted to strip the color, which left my hair in this weird, patchy, uneven mess- with roots still way too dark (darker than my natural color). I still paid (with a tip!) and went home, trying to convince myself maybe it wasn't that bad. But then I noticed the front roots had a harsh line between my natural hair and the god awful dark dye. It was TERRIBLE!! I called the next morning, and she squeezed me in for a correction. I now wish I had just asked for a refund. She ended up turning the roots in the front into this streaky, orange-red color that looked like a botched at-home dye job. I told her again that I didn't want to leave looking like this. Her response? That she assumed I was happy when I left the first time, and that now we were getting into "corrective color" territory, which would require more time and money than I initially paid for. I was only asking her to fix the color SHE messed up TWICE! Rather than wasting any more of both our time, I just had it shampooed again to try and get some of the red toner out. The poor lady who was assisting! I'm not the kind of person who typically says anything when I don't like a haircut or color because I know it's just hair, but I had to because of how wrong it turned out from what I asked for. I left the salon feeling that I had never looked uglier- the super-grown-out roots that I had come in with were better. It took everything in me not to cry in the chair. I cried the whole drive home and again when I looked at it properly- still patchy, with obvious discoloration and that awful line at the roots, still there, but this time in orange. The saddest part is that I used to love this place when I came in for haircuts. I had great experiences the first couple of times, but I will never return, especially not for color. I truly wish I had just walked out and asked for a refund, so I could go somewhere else. I wasted over $300 and two days to tone down my blonde ends. I'm absolutely heartbroken that I have to look like this until I can afford to get it fixed. read more

I've been coming to Scisters Salon for the last three years. I was drawn to their low waste was centered in their business practices. As a new client they give you a tour of the facilities showing your their low waste boutique with items that don't have any plastic: makeup, candles, items for the home, as well as refillable hair styling products, dental hygiene, you name it. They also have a book service where people leave books and you can take one. They also show you their reiki room, where they wash your hair, and where the items and towels are washed or recycled. They also inform you of how the hair they cut are disposed of. I like that they're transparent. If you sign up for their newsletter you get updates about other low waste recycling events they're partnering with like a candle making event. From their store I've been using their leave in conditioner which is a great detangler after I wash my hair. My last visit I got the bottle refilled for $8 instead of spending another $20. A while back, San Diego Zero Waste Community FB Group had a post from Scisters Salon and I made a mental bookmark to make an appointment. Life happened, time went by and I finally treated myself to a visit and am so glad I did! The salon is gorgeous and the staff are all so friendly and welcoming. Easton asked me thoughtful questions about my hair goals and I shared some photos. Easton is very gifted in her craft and has good energy which made for a great experience. I had stopped coloring my hair years ago due to irritation from commercial hair dye, but I decided to try a balayage color treatment as Scisters only uses natural and non-toxic products. The color and cut turned out fantastic! Absolutely no irritation from the hair color at all. It is 100% different and a huge improvement over any other kind I've tried. The shampoo room has the most relaxing music - a real sanctuary. The citrus shampoo, mango conditioning treatment and hot towel wrap felt amazing! I also love the zero-waste products available for purchase and picked up an exfoliating body brush, shampoo (in a refillable bottle) and lip stain by Fat and the Moon (wearing it in the photo - color is Mortar & Pestle). A future visit is in store to pick up some beautiful handmade candles for upcoming holiday gifts and I have another appointment for color on the books. I can hardly believe it but I've been getting my hair done at Scisters for 12 years! Seems like just yesterday I had my first appointment - a real challenge of taking me from dyed black hair to platinum blonde. Of course this took several appointments to do healthily, but the end results were, and still are, spectacular. Melissa is my stylist and seeing her growth over the years makes me so proud. She is gentle, kind, engaged, and she knows her stuff! I get regular compliments on my color and even though I can be "blondorexic" sometimes, she has never damaged my hair. I get bored with my look sometimes and she has dyed my hair pink, purple, silver, etc., but the products used are so gentle that it is never an issue going back to my favorite shiny blonde. The switch to being a zero waste salon is incredible! Even your trimmed hair is sent to a company that uses them for oil spill booms - how cool is that? I also love the refillable hair products, I use their Element brand of leave-in conditioner and bewitched oil blend daily. All the other products in the apothecary are so interesting and I can never leave empty handed. Nail polish, handmade candles, kitchen items, greeting cards, jewelry - I think I have a problem haha! I love going to this salon for many reasons. For years now, I have been using the apothecary to refill my bottles with so many great products that don't irritate my skin. My whole family now uses the cleanser and body cream from Element. And it is a great stop for a quick gift for a friend. I also love getting my hair cut by Melissa. When I ask for the same cut, she is so consistent, and even better, when I am hesitant to try something new, she will listen carefully to my concerns or fears and talk through each one with me. I love that I don't feel pressured to come more often than I want to. I have experienced reiki with Melissa, and it has been amazing. My daughter came here for a haircut with Ireland. We were so thrilled to see a salon that is fully accessible for people with disabilities, and specifically mobility challenges and people who need room to navigate mobility aids. The bathroom was even accessible and barrier free! The chairs and furniture were inclusive in design, AND we were able park just steps away from the front door in a disability access parking spot. We have been to many salons, and the experiences are never like this. It is always highly stressful and many times has left my daughter feeling humiliated and not welcome. I've tried at least 5 other salons and hair stylists in San Diego since I've moved here, and this place hands down has me as long as I live here. It may not look like much from the outside but the inside is so cute. Not only is the entire staff so pretty, but they're all so nice!!! They make you feel so welcome and so beautiful coming in and leaving, which is the whole point of going to a salon right?! The shampoo session is my favorite Ofcourse. They have a cute tranquil room for shampooing. And let me tell you, It's the most relaxing thing ever. If I hated my haircuts (which I don't), I'd still come here for the shampooing and head massages lol. I love going to Easton. Every time I show her a picture, it's like she can read my mind. She doesn't ask a whole lot of questions and suddenly does EXACTLY what I was wanting. Ugh. LOVE. Parking lot is small. But I've never had a problem finding a spot. And if not, they're right next to Vons which has a huge parking lot and less than a minute walk away. COVID: they're all wearing masks. And social distancing seems to be enforced. Have to update my review. Unfortunately, the salon is no longer what it used to be. Everything I liked about it has changed and is no longer part of the business practices or vibe of the place. Prices are too high, space has become cramped and dingy. I love the idea of sustainability, but the pricing model is ridiculous. (And yes, I understand the inherent extra expense of being "no waste") The stylist I loved is no longer there, and the others that I have tried I do not think are very good. When I came to SScisters salon, I was very pleased on to find apon arrival that they had accessible handicap parking for people with disabilities, making it very easy for my mom and I to find parking. Second thing that I was pleased to find is how nice and welcoming the staff were at the salon. It was so nice to be at the salon as a woman with disabilities to be able to have free access to the salon without having to navigate an accessible challenging areas. The salon was fully accessible and it was surprising to find that the seating was even comfortable for people like me. Also, they were very mindful in their approach working with me and I highly recommend this salon for anybody who's wanting to go get a new hair style done. overall, my experience was amazing and I felt like I could actually enjoy my experience. Their prices are also very reasonable, which I was happy to find two most places I've been to cost a lot of money for the simplest hairstyle. Hope you all give this place a try. I went in for a consultation for my first ever hair dye. I showed the salon what I wanted and I was skeptical about dying my whole head one color and requested a balayage. When my appointment came, my stylist said I wouldn't look good unless it was my whole head being dyed and proceeded to dye everything. I also got a hair cut, because I thought it would be good quality. To my surprise, it was one of the worst I've had. There was a huge section of hair that was not equal in length (I didn't get layers either) and my stylist tried to hide it in the pictures she took and didn't fix it! The cut took under ten minutes and felt rushed. The hair dye was the absolute wrong color and I was so upset that my WHOLE HEAD was now this color. It's been almost two years since I've had this done and it still affects me to this day. My hair is not back to its original color and I regret ever dyeing it. Really unfortunate for my first time ever dyeing it and it'll probably be my last :/ read more

Run don't walk to Scisters Salon! Today was my first time there. From the beginning, Alex (who is awesome) showed me around. She was very kind and made me feel welcome. Irelan was my stylist and she's the best! She listened to me when I asked her to use fragrance free shampoo and conditioner on my hair. That made me feel more like a valued customer. While she was washing my hair she did a mini head massage. I also enjoyed the spa music and closed door when getting my hair washed. My hair feels amazing. I needed it to be thinned out and two inches off. My hair feels lighter and my dead ends are gone. I will be returning :) read more

i've been going to scisters off and on, initially for an occasional bang trim, a few hair cuts, and more recently color. i get my hair colored every 3-4 months, a few sun-kissed pieces around my face and an all over toner. i stopped getting my haircuts here as my layers were continuously cut blunt, choppy, and uneven making it impossible for me to wear my hair down without it looking bulky, like i have dog ears. because my appointments are not as frequent and booked ahead of time, things on my schedule shift and change. whenever my personal schedule changes, i have rescheduled my appointment at Scisters with a minimum of 1-2 weeks notice. when i called i was transferred to the manager, who told me that i would be charged before rescheduling my appointment. i was within the cancellation time frame, so i was very confused. i was told that i've rescheduled appointments at the salon 6 times in the last year and there is a limit to how many times you can reschedule, regardless of how much notice is given for rescheduoling. i was told that now it is now a problem, and i will be charged for rescheduling. again, i have never rescheduled beyond the cancellation policy window. i value stylists' time, and know that their schedule is important. however, i have a problem with and am upset about this limited rescheduling policy of only 6 times, ever, that was never explained to me and still applies regardless of how much notice is given to reschedule. i do not appreciate how they handled this situation, and that there was no communication regarding this. if you never need to adjust your hair appointments, and don't need a haircut, then this is the place for you. read more
