The design consultant was kind and helpful, pointing out various design features of each option and also helping pick colors that would go with the room. We have three Hunter Douglas shades in our house, all purchased and installed by Blinds and Designs 10 years ago, and in one case about six years ago. They have made the decision not to do any repair work on any shades which are the "old" HD shades, even ones that they sold and installed. I explained to them that I didn't think it was going to be a full repair but I needed help removing the metal fascia on the shades to uncover the manual power button on the roll to determine if it was a problem with the motor or just the remote. They refused to book a full-price appointment with me to find out this simple thing. This is after having emails and calls go unreturned for four days until I finally got a hold of them. So then I called SF Blind Cleaners, and within two hours, someone was at my door and fixed the problem in 15 minutes for a fraction of the cost Blinds and Designs charges for a tech visit. I guess business is pretty good when you can turn down former customers in your own community who are trying to pay you full price for help with a very simple task. Good luck. read more

I had a 6 year old hunter douglas blind which wasn't working properly. Was told would cost $1500 to replace (which included a $500 supposed discount) and the new blind would not totally match. Then I took the blind to Shades of Marin which told me it would cost $150 to fix. That's $1,350 less plus I get the same matching blind. Needless to say - won't be going to blinds and designs again. read more

Ed was a nice and helpful designer/sales guy, but I spent $6700+ on blinds/shades that somehow disappeared, supposedly due to their outsourced workroom being flakey. They arrived late and didn't fit the curved wall as designed. They were sent back. We rescheduled 3-4 times to have them installed and they failed to arrive each time. I often only got an email (sometimes late following a no show) with no real explanation other than the materials did not arrive. There does not appear to be a manager who can step in. This job is months and months late and I have asked them for my money back (regretfully, no luck so far). They asked for another chance and again the shades did not show. Given the pricing, I expected more. Be cautious paying upfront and use a credit card that can help with any dispute. read more

I never, and I mean NEVER leaver reviews, but I didn't even get past about 5 min on the phone with the guy working Monday morning at the Tiburon office. I was trying to explain our setup and what I was looking for as far as blinds/shades and the guy immediately tells me what I need without ever letting me finish a full sentence, as if it was his house and so he already knew exactly what we needed, regardless of what we might want or already have. Every time I tried to interject to explain we weren't on the same page he just got louder and kept talking over me. I finally, loudly, said to him just let me describe everything first before you cut me off again, and tell me what we need. He then got rude and said fine tell me what you want to say. I needed a Hunter Douglas duette repair. I visited the store to schedule this as I live in the neighborhood. The gentleman in charge of repairs informed me that they would look up my account and call me. Two days passed with no call. I followed up with a telephone call (left a message). No response. This was very annoying as I have twenty-one Hunter-Douglas duettes in my apartment. I went to another vendor and immediately arranged an appointment to repair the blind in question. From start to finish, my experience with Blinds & Designs in Tiburon was the best I've ever had with a window covering company -- and I've worked with many. I had a small but challenging project that some claimed couldn't be done. I needed a solution for a large, triangular shaped gable window. It was important to get it right as it is a prominent architectural feature in my master bedroom. I initially worked with Preston who came out personally to look at the job and he quickly found a very workable, affordable treatment using shutters. And his installer, Gil, is truly a craftsmen! When he came out to measure, he suggested an installation method that beautifully frames the window shape and made the shutters look more integrated with the window and the room. He assembled the shutters in his workshop so when he came out to do the install, the whole process was quick and efficient. It's a joy to discover a company that is so good at what they do. I am disappointed and worried that my installation will never be complete. I ordered new shades in September last year and expected that there might be delays. Finally I was told in February that there had been a mistake and one element of my job had not been properly fabricated. At last, an installer came on March14 and discovered that he had not been given the proper hardware. Now, every few days I call Sayeed in the showroom in the Cove Shopping Center and I email Ed and Susan in the city and I leave messages for Susan in the city but nobody emails or calls to explain when the job might be complete. Placed two orders here for Hunter Douglass blinds and were very happy with the promptness of the service, the expediency of our order being delivered, as well as their competitiveness. Dealing with Ed was a pleasure. He kept us appraised of all the developments along the way and answered any questions in a timely manner. He made sure our orders were precise and to our specifications. We did a self install since its relatively simple but I was glad to know they were there if we needed them. I would definitely recommend this place. They have a nice showroom if you're not sure what you really want and they're extremely helpful. If you go, ask for Ed. Absolutely fantastic service. All businesses are in hospitality, at this point, and it's whether you realize that, or don't. The process of selection, and their materials, are obviously fantastic. But it's the responsiveness, and follow through, that is really impressive. We had a minor mounting / install issue, and it's not when things go wrong, but how they are handled. I've really not seen such a responsive, accountable, and friendly response as I did from Ed, the showroom manager. It was wonderful, and what could have become a really annoying issue was immediately dealt with and resolved. It is this kind of service that will keep people coming back for a lifetime, and get him a bunch of recommendations and referrals! =) So happy how it all turned out. Like most of us, I am usually only compelled to write a positive review when I have received exceptional service. I am reviewing now because I received exceptional service from Libni at Blinds and Designs. I ordered custom shutters that were installed and looked beautiful but didn't allow my sliding windows to open easily. I wrote to Libni to express my concern. Even during the Pandemic, he responded quickly, worked with the manufacturer, and now I have new shutters on the way. Just moved to a new condo and needed shades for every window. Blinds and designs was great and I certainly recommend them. Preston was so knowledgeable and directed me to the right product for my windows. He really knows his stuff. I have a greenhouse type skylight that was making my kitchen unbearably hot and the shade he suggested reduced the temperature in there twenty degrees. And I can't say enough about the installers. They were so skilled and friendly. All in all a great experience. read more

A few days ago we had a motorized solar shade and draperies installed by Blinds & Designs, and we couldn't be happier! An excellent value. One of the owners of the business personally helped us select the proper color and texture for the shade, and suggested a particular fabric for the draperies based on our color scheme. It all turned out to be perfect. When they were ready to do the installation, their scheduler was very accommodating with a couple of date changes which needed to be made at the last minute due to my changing calendar. She couldn't have been nicer. Outstanding customer service all the way through. The installation itself was finished half an hour earlier than planned, which was nice. The installer, Steve, cleaned up so well we couldn't even tell any work had been done. Very nice guy as well. The finished product is absolutely great! It's exactly what we wanted and exactly what we expected. We can raise and lower the shade with a remote control, which makes it effortless. It let's the perfect amount of light through, but cuts the glare from the sun just the right amount on our west-facing sliding glass doors. At night we can still see out, but people cannot see in. I have a sorry story to tell. I got a quote from Preston then went to Home Depot to see if I would save money for a rental house. Home Depot was $500 cheaper but not in the end. Preston was very gracious when I told him but he wished me luck on the installation. The selection and installation of the blinds has been exhausting and stressful with everything going wrong step by step. The personnel at Home Depot is incompetent recommending choices that do not work. Don't go to Home Depot. Blinds & Designs is priced actually the same when all the mistakes are corrected at Home Depot. I've used blinds and designed twice before and hey we're great. Good products - terrible customer service. Do not do business here. No communication with each other or with us. The woman we initially placed the order with was due to go a 2 week vacation which should have been the first sign to work with someone else but she assured us she would take care of everything before she left. She didn't. She took our order but didn't tell anyone else at the store that she placed our order which kicked off an all around terrible customer experience. After more than the estimated time the blinds were expected to in had passed with no news, we went to the store to inquire. No one there had any knowledge of our order. The purchase order with our credit card number written on it could not be found. Woman we placed the order with is still on vacation. We were told they would look into it and let us know. 4 days later we get a call saying that the order had come in but nobody knew what it was for ("oh that must have been your order") so they sent it back....they would continue to investigate, contact woman on vacation and let me know...Then another call saying they confirmed with woman on vacation that order WAS placed and they now expect it in 2-3 (additional) weeks. It initially was due to take a total of 2 weeks, it's now been 4. When I asked why so long they basically admitted they had to reorder. AND because they could not located our document with our credit card number we had to fill out another one. (Not very comforting) Then not 5 minutes later another call - "Oh we DO have your stuff in our warehouse - turns out it wasn't sent back" - now we need to arrange installation - two options available - the next day Tuesday at 2pm or Saturday in 2+ weeks. 2 MORE weeks until can get anything installed but we had to take a Saturday because we work. So ok - we waited this long - whatever. Then Steve comes in to install. Nice enough guy - clearly knows what he's doing. He's the only reason this place even gets one star. But he opens up a valence that goes along sliding glass doors and we notice it's the wrong color. We wanted a valence to match our trim which is white and this one is cream. He says - it just pops on an off so when the correct color comes in you can just exchange it. Sounds easy enough - although getting to that point was painful enough. So thinking this is going to be simple, we send an email to woman we placed the order with who is now back from vacation - "looks like the wrong color was ordered, can you please order the right color and let us know what we have to do - exchange it - etc." She literally now launches into an offensive of how we ordered that color and she clearly remembers that and she is right because she "doesn't make mistakes" We are shocked that she is laying into us like this. We were expecting: "oh I'm so sorry I will get the correct color ordered right away" - Silly to expect such customer service. She came to our house before the order was placed. She recalls us wanting the valence to match our trim but is now arguing - yes arguing - with us as to what color our trim is!! She rants and rants about how much this is going to cost her and she is positive she remembers us ordering the off while correctly. Two phone calls this woman is not letting up. We were truly shocked to have to listen to her go on and on and on in this manner - completely unprofessional and frankly shocking. She arranges a date of installation of the new color but never tells us the time. We email her 3 days before for a time - all she does is forward an email from another coworker with the time slot assigned to us. Never an actual communication from her to us. NEVER got an apology and behavior consistent with a 5 year old. Unpleasant all around. read more

I received almost unheard of service and professionalism from Blinds & Designs. I was in need of a very specific type of drapery hardware. Ed at Blinds & Designs gratuitously conducted extensive research; found my hardware; and ultimately charged me nothing! Throughout the process he provided constant updates via e-mail, which I truly appreciated. Blinds & Designs is fantastic. We ordered Plantation Shutters and every facet of this went perfectly. Customer service and support could not have been more perfect. The owner - Preston- is a VERY nice guy and the two installers we had - Gilbert and Brenden - did a beautiful job on the installation. The installation in our Condo here in Tiburon was a complicated one and they did it with ease!! Can't begin to describe how great the shutters look !!! We had an approx $20,000 order. The design consultation with Preston was very buttoned-up and getting the order in was easy. However, we have had numerous problems with some of the shades tracking and working properly. But I must say, Blinds and Designs have come back to my home every time, free of charge, to correct the problems. They have stood behind their product. I have to edit my review. After too many returns to adjust the bedroom shades, the tracking problem was never resolved. The shades continuously catch the valance and are now permanently off-track and torn. In retrospect, the shades were not installed properly--the clutch was too close to the valance. I will have to replace the shades. read more

I'm giving Blinds & Designs four stars because the situation I find myself in is as much my fault as theirs. I did not bother to research the topic of blinds-oriented design before hiring them. And it did not occur to me that some people might consider window blinds to be a much more versatile decorative instrument than I do. That said, do bathtubs really need blinds? Cupboards? Refrigerators? Perhaps reasonable people can disagree. But after six months twisting dozens of little poles just to get dressed, fed, and out of the house in the morning, I have to say I'm not convinced. read more

Bought and had installed electric blinds for 9 floor to ceiling windows with 4 separate motors from Blinds & Designs. Now these blinds need servicing. After several visits to the store on Polk and telephone attempts to get onsite service including a broken appointment, I have not been able to get the service I need. read more

Blinds and Designs did a huge project for us in Mill Valley. I am a cancer survivor and needed very specialized window coverings from the sun. Blinds and Designs had patience, knowledge, and great communication. I highly reccomend working with Becky as she was our liason and truly walked us through so many options and variables. She was always on time, followed through, and truly cared about the job. We needed to adjust some things as we changed our minds and they were so wonderful with us through that as well. I have used them because I'm in Sausalito, they have a nice showroom and feature fine products. Their service STINKS.... you can leave messages that go unanswered, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, and in general for YEARS I have found this to be the case but I ordered my product through them and so I'm stuck with them. The front end is fine but the back end stinks! You leave a voicemail and the person is in class but doesn't say "I won't answer my messages for two days" so you call others who no nothing of your order, and it's round the horn and back again. read more

I have been using Blinds and Designs for clients for over 20 years. In that time I have never had anything but exemplary service from the showroom to the appointment scheduler to the frequent updates on shipping and installation. I have never heard anything but wonderful things about the installation process in my clients homes as well as the beauty and long wear of the window treatments that we have selected. I have only ordered custom so cannot speak to pricing of ready made shades versus big box retailers but cannot imagine that the countless professional experiences I have had over the years would be any different for mass marketed products. The customer service of David and his team have never disappointed me in either product or delivery schedule -- almost unheard of in my business! read more

the hunter douglas wood blinds that came with our house needed to be restrung. these blinds were originally purchased from blinds & designs in tiburon by the previous home owner. the service for repairs was terrible. we paid $120 repair fee only to bring the blinds home still broken as though they weren't even sent in for repair. then when we asked to just purchase a new set of blinds replicating the old blinds (which were still at the showroom available for measuring/replication), but the replication was done incorrectly, neither copying our original set nor scheduling a measurement appt to ensure the new set would correctly address our window's unique layout as the old set did. worse yet, the service is incredibly slow. we sent the original broken blinds in for repair in september 2020, and it is now close to a year later and we still don't have a set of correctly construction, working blinds, despite having now paid over $1120 for these blinds. i realized that the pandemic could have changed the level of service, but this is egregious. read more

Lovely quiet showroom, thoughtful service and ingenious installation - Blinds and Designs is quality. In our '60's house, no windows match or are plumb, and one has two 6x8 beams from the pitched roof intersecting the sill, making installation of shutters a real puzzle. Both Preston and the installer, Gilbert, put a lot of thought into finding a good solution. Gilbert installed all the shutters yesterday with meticulous craftsmanship and good humor. Read this amazing story and decide for yourself. OK, they can provide decent quality blinds. Not simple, very well-priced or hassle-free. Of note, this is the second review that indicates the same employee measured improperly first time around. Yes, that employee mis-measured for our blinds too. After that they made it right. The only positive thing I can say is their installer was polite and well trained. Here's the Story: Since completing business with them over 6 months ago they have charged my credit card in excess of $600 on two (2) different occasions for no good reason! Yes, this occurred two different times. I do not owe them a penny. They were paid in full the day the blinds were installed. They claimed they had another customer with a similar name and since their "database" retains credit card numbers of previous clients -- the database made an error and charged my card instead. Believe that once, but not twice. Yes, they did the very same thing three months later -- charged my credit card over $600 which I do not owe them!!! Don't you have to wonder? Of course their store manager won't even take a phone call -- she hands you over to a nervous, defensive bookkeeper who claims the charge was never put through since they "caught the error in time and reversed it" ---NOT. Good luck to any and all of you who take a chance with this storefront representative of Hunter-Douglas. Many others sell Hunter-Douglas. Try one of them and save yourself a big headache. Hard to believe this is the first and only time they have done such a thing. They claim they do not have access to clients credit card numbers after a transaction has completed, but state that their "database" retains credit card numbers of previous clients and that was their excuse for this happening. Do you believe that? OK, maybe once, but NOT TWICE!!! Hunter-Douglas makes a good product. Thank you YELP for making this space available. If time allows, I will be writing a letter to Hunter-Douglas. They should hear about this happening. read more
