I echo other positive reviews about the staff here. They are super friendly, helpful and talented as well. They are all great to work with for events too. Some of the items are priced higher than nearby stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby, but the quality of items here are top notch. I am a big fan of Sharpie markers and moleskin journals and they always have a great selection here in different sizes, colors and unlined or lined versions. I like to come here for unique gift items too. Check out their Artist of the Month displays and special events too. However, I will share that parking here on the weekends is getting challenging, now that the new H Mart has opened. read more

Great art store! All media. Arches paper single sheets of paper all sizes, plenty of frames at reasonable prices, how to books on all areas of art , kids art games and sets, easels, and more! I spend hours scouting for art supplies located back from Gold road in shopping canter near Woodfield. Prints of artwork can be made there if you bring jpeg with your art pieces on it. I love shopping for paint at this store. It's a "real" Blick, a solid art supply, more like the Chicago stores, not a scrapbooky suburban toy store. The associates are friendly and really cool and human and don't seem to be under any sort of strained compulsion to pester shopping customers. They're there if I have a question but are not breathing down my neck repeating a sales pitch the entire time I shop. They leave me alone and let me contemplate my palette and walk around considering colors. I can turn in any direction and take steps, sometimes several steps (!) without running into another associate repeating the store's sales pitch. It's great! The employees at this location don't seem to have explosive chip implants that can be detonated upon failure to recite the sales to the same customer over and over again. And it's a wonderful store, very complete, tremendous selection. Obviously from my last review I came to this store after a bad experience at another Blick location. We were deciding whether it was all of Blick that sucks now or just that one location, and I'm completely relieved that this store is still a haven. Dick Blake is a great service. They have a wonderful selection of art items of all kind. The value of their items is pretty decent. They have sales which can help buy more expensive items like arches paper. Sometimes they will carry something for a while and then stop caring it which is kind of a bummer because I have run into that issue with a paint that I like. I guess it was only popular with me and a few people! But that is how it is. It's a great store and I enjoy coming here. read more

Blick has great customer service. Sure you can run into snags here and there- everybody does now and then, but I can honestly say that the intention to be great is fostered from the top down to the cashiers. If you ever run into someone who isn't on top of their game- it happens- chill out. Ordering online or shopping in the store is always an uplifting experience for me. Pens to markers. Papers to canvas. Charcoal to inks. They have just about anything an artist could need and usually a decent selection to choose from. I had ordered a package of Blick markers- not cheap- and they came in a nice acrylic case that acts as a convenient stand when you are working. The case arrived with large cracks encountered during shipping. A call to CS led to an email to the warehouse to see if they had any extra cases they could send me. An initial rep told me that unfortunately they did not have empty cases. Then a few days later a follow up email arrived apologizing for any inconvenience and a new case arrived in the mail the very next day. ---- Question: So... is Blick a good place to start your next art project? Had a large diamond painting art work (32" X 24") framed at this Blick store in Schaumburg. After waiting 6 weeks they informed me it was ready for pick up. When I got home and removed the plastic covering, I was shocked at how bad the ark work was framed. It was literally popping out of the matte frame on all side (see pics) and had huge air bubbles. I was told since it's it's diamond rhinestone painting they didn't want to destroy the artwork by gluing the art work to the back canvas. But I told them they could have put double sided tape to ensure the art stuck to canvas. I will never go to Blick Art again for my framing needs. I usually go to Joann fabrics for framing but since Blick Art had a 50% off sale I went with them for the first time. I learned my lesson. $187 down the drain read more

The last time I purchased an item here was during the non-essential business shut down, but they allowed curbside pickup. They charged me shipping ($7) to walk from the store's door to my car and back- a grand total of probably 20 feet. It bothered me that I would be charged an absurd fee for such a task, but was happy to have the item. Today (Saturday) I went in to purchase an item that was significantly discounted on the website for Black Friday. An employee brought me to the item's location- when I asked about the sale price difference, she said if I had the store preferred card they would match the price. When I got to checkout- they would not match the price, would not tell me why they couldn't match the price, couldn't tell me why it was a different price, and wouldn't bring anyone over who knew. Just a flat out 'no'... It's a shame I drove 20 min to get there for that. read more

I love Blick Art, as I used to frequent this place during undergrad for art supplies galore! Art materials and supplies can get quite expensive, but Blick Art does a good job in have competitive prices. This seems to be one of the very few art supply stores in the area in which you can get canvases, brushes, paints (oils, acrylics, etc.), as well as random trinkets like cute paper clips, markers, and sketch pads. There are also art furniture as well like architecture desks and easels. I tend to stock up on the pens, stickers, sketchbooks, and the canvases. You can also find some gifts for that artsy friend, like the lomo camera and craft kits. I have to agree with the review that said to not think of Michael's and Blick the same. Michael's is more a craft store with some art supplies. But Blick is definitely more for the artists and even offer classes and activities of all sorts for those of you that want to learn more. This is one of my very favorite stores and I can spend hours here (not only this location but I do love this specific one). They have a large array of products, this is one of the few places I can find this many mediums, scratchboards, etc...you name it! This location is more roomy than some of the other ones and is very clean and organized. I read other reviews that said staff was rude...I have never quite got that but I can tell you their staff is more artistic than someone you would find at Michaels. Staff is very knowledgeable for this reason. I love their front section with all the random stuff, there always seems to be new things to just browse. Sure you can always find better prices online for specific things but an actual store to walk around in just feels so much different to me. Everyone at this location is so friendly and helpful! It's nice that even if they don't have an item in store, they can still do an online order with you. Although the building itself is on the smaller side, they pack a punch! I've never come and not found multiple things that I needed (and multiple things that I might not have needed). - 3 stars off the bat. I like Blick but I don't like feeling like a criminal whilst I shop. Every time i'm there the place is WAAAYYY over staffed and people CONSTANTLY walk around and look at the people shopping through the isles... I mean...... thats disgusting. Solely for that reason I will most likely NOT come back here as often as I wished I would. The Blick downtown is five times bigger and still overstaffed but I never see any one walking around besides people in certain areas intentionally placed there for help. Cramped location, generally unfriendly employees, small selection compared to other Blicks, and the most outstanding issue I have is being watched and followed by employees. Theft must be an issue at this location. It is painfully obvious they watch darker skinned individuals such as myself more than others. I've witnessed and experienced this first hand a dozen times. Blick has always been my go to place for art supplies. They offer a wide variety of canvases. Every size you can imagine and very large canvas. Wonderful variety of paint brushes, pencils and charcoal. The store is well organized and has many specialty items you cannot locate in a hobby shop or arts and crafts places. If you paint or draw this store is for you. They do have a fairly large amount of crafts. The staff here is helpful and usually knowledgeable about the products. Also a good store to get a gift for someone interested in art. They have many gift sets and starter kits for all kinds of arts & crafts. read more

Price seems comparable to a little expensive compared with other arts and craft stores, but they have good sales on a few products. I recently picked up a new art hobby, so walking into this place felt a little overwhelming since it was my first time coming in I did end up finding what I was looking for and found lots of other options too. I saw alot of staff members but no one came up to help me...Im not sure why the staff was everywhere and I was in the same spot for like 15-25 minutes. Maybe I was too under dressed?? I eventually walked up to the staff and asked questions, they helped me make my decision and also gave me a rewards card which was really great. I haven't shopped for art supplies since christ died, I mean, I still had hair on my head and a uterus, and I was thin! But my daughter was making a model of the tar pits for school, so of course I needed some acrylic gel, foam board,exacto knife, palette knife, sculpey to make a columbian mastodon... Well. It's been a loooooooooooooonnnnnnnng time, I almost forgot the excitement, the giddiness in the gut, the scent of linseed oil, oh I nearly wet myself. This place has everything you could possibly want, and I wanted it all. Products I never knew existed, I didn't know where to look first! I was a little taken aback by prices but I haven't bought supplies in 20 years, it's to be expected. We got suckered in to being a preferred customer, hell we bought over $100 worth of stuff but I think the cost of the card was balanced out by the student discount (I forgot, my kid IS a student). In addition to the crap we bought, my daughter got a free t-shirt, a sample blick pastel, sketchbook & a sharpie. I could've spent the whole day in that place... One day, I will be finished organizing the house and cleaning and getting rid of crap, and then I will give in to my creative self and Blick will be there for me. read more

This has been by far the most unwelcoming experience in a Blick store ever. Every associate who approached us were rude and unfriendly. As we looked for items and asked questions, we were either ignored or given a brisk answer. At one point my son sat in a chair and spun it (as kids do) and an associate came out of nowhere and began a tirade about how it's not a toy. My child is a good kid, and only needed to be reminded not to do something, but this guy went above and beyond in quite a harsh manner. Also, as we walked around, an employee when behind us and "rearranged" whatever we touched or looked at (which was weird to me and made me feel like he thought we were stealing.) also, anytime anyone walked in the store they rudely told them to shop fast because they are closing soon. We DEFINITELY won't be back to this location. UPDATE REPLY TO MANAGER: I understand that things need to be faced and put back at the end of day; unfortunately this was distinctly rude to follow a customer around and rearrange even if they haven't touched anything in the area. It's bad business actually, making customers feel rushed and unwelcome. As far as it being busy- it was 8pm on a Sunday evening. There were only my family and 2 other customers in the store. There was plenty of time and room for your associates to be helpful instead of hurrying to close. As far as the children and furniture, I completely understood and would have told my son to stop as well if I had a chance to. The associate came out of an aisle like magic and started berating my child. Now, I am not one to helicopter parent, and if he was doing something wrong for sure, stop it. But to yell at him to stop, then go on about how it's not a toy and should know better... well no. That's above and beyond. I stopped him (your associate) with an "alright already! He got it!" which finally prompted him to stop. It was inexcusable the treatment and unhelpful and unfriendly people we encountered there. We definitely have not had this experience at other Blick stores. We won't be returning to this one. read more

I'm not an artist and I don't know anything about art supplies other than "paint. paper. colored pencils. canvas." I'm taking a drawing class and I was given a list of things that I will need throughout the course, half of which were completely foreign to me. They may as well have been listed in Chinese. I brought the list to Blick in Schaumburg and was amazed at the amount of art supplies in one building. I found everything pretty well and the friendly staff offered to help. Fortunately everything I needed was there: charcoal, dozens of brands of pastels, pencils, an entire aisle devoted to paper. I had to stop myself from buying cool things that I didn't even need. I can be dangerously impulsive when I see shiny objects at the corner of my eye. read more

Think way more art and a whole lot less craft compared to Michael's. Which makes this store great for painters. They've got a great selection of brushes and can order even more for you at the store. It was my first time here and the staff was very helpful finding a very particular item and ordering it for me. I love this chain for their fantastic variety of supplies as well as cute little gifts. After visiting the Schaumburg store, I will not return there and will only shop at the Evanston location. The Schaumburg store seems to employ rude staff. 2 of the 3 staff I encountered had a superior tone when speaking to customers (myself as well as others) and an overall officious attitude. I don't need that kind of negative atmosphere when I'm spending good money on expensive supplies to support a hobby that is supposed to bring me joy. Very disappointing experience. read more

This is usually my go-to Blick store. It's right by Woodfield, across from IKEA, near lots of restaurants and not far from REI. If you're coming from I-290 onto Golf Road, it's a bit tricky to get to their lot, so you have to overshoot it a bit and head into the Woodfield loop and do a turnaround. But other than that, I like the bright lighting in there better than several of their other regional stores, and the sales staff is pleasant and helpful. Each Dick Blick store carries a slightly different selection of supplies, so call ahead. (I also order online when I have a few days leeway in getting supplies.) I always feel like I'm a kid in a candy factory when I shop there, and have to be careful I don't come home with twice what's on my list. : ) read more
