The details:
I really wanted to like this place and love the Farm to Table concept. The atmosphere is great and they have outdoor seating right along the river, which is a big plus. We were greeted and sat right away (6pm on a Friday night). Unfortunately, that is where the positives ended.
After being sat and given our menus, we sat for almost 15 minutes before anyone even greeted us. Our waitress was talking to the table next to us during that timeframe, but never acknowledged us. I can certainly understand being busy, but a smile and "I'll be with you shortly" goes a long way. After getting our water 15 minutes in, our waitress stopped by to take a drink order. We ordered 2 cocktails and had a few questions about some of the menus items, one of which she did not know the answer. She told us she would put in our drink order and find out about my questions. Great!!! Not so much.... 15 minutes later (30 minutes in), 1 of our 2 drinks came and she said the other would be up shortly. 35 minutes after being sat, she returned with the second drink and to take our order. I asked again about my question and she had forgotten to ask. She went to leave and find out the answer, but at this point I just wanted to order. I ordered cold Spring Pea Soup and an arugula salad with shrimp. My boyfriend ordered a chicken sandwich with fingerling potatoes.
Our food order was placed at 6:35. At 7:15, still nothing. I inquired about the soup and asked if I was going to receive it first. I didn't specifically ask for it first, but as a former server I did expect to get a bowl of cold soup prior to my entree salad. I was told they were coming out at the same time. I asked if I *could* get the soup first and was told that things came out as they were placed in queue. She told me she would talk to the manager about it and came back to tell me that the manager was bringing my soup. Still nothing...
Our food finally arrived at 7:25--55 minutes after ordering-- and wrong. A completely different salad was ordered and the chicken sandwich was warm at best. At this point, I was completely done. I had almost walked out after not having anything on my table after 30 minutes and at this point, wished I had.
We flagged down the manager to explain all of the issues that we had, and she was very apologetic and accommodating. Our entire meal was comped and she did mention that they were working out some kinks with the cook times and front of house. I do understand fresh food and made to order, but again having worked in the industry and having eaten in MANY establishments over the years, there is a way to make that happen in less time. You can't have a successful restaurant if people continually have to wait an hour for burgers and salads.
My advice is to train front of the house staff a bit better ( I did notice lots of servers around who seemed to be handling things better than our server ) and work out the kinks with the kitchen and food times. I will try again, maybe for lunch. I am hopeful that things go up from here. read more
