Dry bland food. Had the Salmon with rice and the skirt steak with fingerling potatoes. Was looking forward to having a gourmet restaurant in Dundee, was sorrily disappointed. Salmon was fine, rice pilaf was totally unseasoned and extremely boring. Skirt steak was tough and potatoes were undercooked and inedible, also completely unspiced. What really shocked me was the absolute absence of flavor in everything. By the prices I was expecting greatness, what I got was amateur hour. read more

Gave me the bleus ... To be fair, they are new and probably still have a learning curve. To start, the room was very nice. Unfortunately the booth we sat in was easy on the eyes, but a bit uncomfortable - maybe needs time to break in. Staff was nice but lacked skill. Server brought appetizer then walked away leaving us with no plates. Waiter was very nice but brought us unwrapped straws in his bare hand and then put it in my drink. He did the same later when bringing me a large spoon (not exactly sure why) with my entree, then put it right into my dish. It wasn't horrific - but generally you don't expect your waiter to use bare hands to hand you a straw, much less put it right in your drink. Inexperience. The bring your un-cold water with no ice - maybe intentional but not appealing, in my opinion. Other beverages were good, but he offers a sample of the beer before we order which required him to actually put in an order, which delayed getting the sample, which delayed getting the drinks. Inefficient. Food was a disappointment, but could have been what we ordered. Unfortunately, we both ordered something that, apparently, was bland, watery and unappetizing. I had the rice noodle dish and my companion had the capellini. At $18 and $20 respectively, we were both feeling ripped off. We also ordered the buffalo wings, which were good, but $11 for six small wings. I generally try a new place at least twice before throwing in the towel, so watch for an update. Maybe we'll give it another shot. read more

I want this place to do well but you can tell they are still new and working out some kinks. The menu and cocktail list looks enticing.. and the location and decor is cute but the experience ended up being slightly odd. My cousin and I both got the rice noodle bowl... which sounded so good. It turned out to be a bland fancy version of cup-a-noodle. I'm not kidding. It was very lame. I was hoping for a flavorful, savory bowl of Asian noodles... nope... The grilled cheese was decent and the fingerling potatoes were good. The burger is pretty good, needs a little more blue cheese on it but everything else about it is awesome. The cocktails also leave a lot to be desired. Not a ton of balance and couldn't hang at a proper cocktail bar. The Mary Pickford was good though! Our service was also kind of bizarre.. All in all... I think they have a lot of potential. I would try them again. read more

Very fresh, healthy food. Had the arugula, fennel salad with the avocado toast. Hope this place does really well because I really liked it. Beautiful decor, great beer list. Overlooking fox river. read more

Overall rather poor experience. Asked about the Bleu Root Old Fashion and was given no explanation of how it was different from a regular Old Fashion. I inquired further, and still no dice. Obviously saved the $2 and went with a regular Old fashioned which was average at best. Ordered Portabella Fries and they were good. Followed up by ordering the Berry Salad and short rib Poutine. The Poutine was decent - nothing special. The salad though - had two bites and was overwhelmed by the taste of Basil. Wife sampled and thought the same. Looking at the leaves closer they all smelled and tasted like Basil. Flagged down our server and she said the kitchen had been running out of Spinach and took it away. Received our bill and was still charged for the salad. It was later removed at our request, but frustrating error. The chef grabbed us on the way out and said she was sure there was no basil in the salad. My wife and I grow basil and we were very certain it was an entire plate of basil. Chef passed it off on cross-pollination from their supplier farm - which might be plausible. Still tasted strongly of Basil and overall not a good experience due to the service and salad issue. read more

This was our quick Thursday dinner so I will be quick. We stopped by (first time) and the place is quite nice, the service is good but the food...Well the flatbread was not bead at all, too bad they did not have a ceviche one. The beer choice is very acceptable and I saw they have quite variety of drinks. We ordered veggie burgers for our main menu and I have to tell that composition of the patty was interesting but too dry and no sauce whatsoever. We were giver mustard and ketchup, come on!! First of all if you get a veggie burger on the menu, this is not just mere substitution for a regular burger, and any simple aioli would be a perfect addition to make it more juicy, not dry. Please take it to your consideration. read more

Service was super slow. Came on a Sunday night and it took the server 15 minutes to even say hello. Cavatappi was over cooked. But the water was excellent. I would give this 1 star but my kids enjoyed their meals. read more

Love! What a great experience! Kevin took care of us at the bar and everyone was welcoming and knowledgeable. We had the charcuterie and grilled pepper crusted chicken wings to start. After that, we enjoy put bubbly rose and flight of beers with the smokey spiced and bourbon maple glazed wild salmon and grass fed skirt steak with an amazing olive chimichurri sauce. Enjoyed some specialty cocktails for dessert. Great place and we will be back. Picture is of their bourbon thyme cocktail featuring smoked thyme. read more

My mom went there with her friends and received the worst customer service I've ever heard of. I've been here before but will make sure I never go again. I'm guessing the server lied to the rest of the staff to cover their mistake and the whole staff including manager was beyond rude to them. Horrible customer service - do not go! read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. By far my favorite in West Dundee to grab drinks, split a quick bite/appetizer, have a nice dinner, or sit outside and enjoy brunch. Literally any occasion! Any time someone's in town visiting me, this is where I take them. My favorites are the "Not Your Momma's" Mac & Cheese and the Bleuroot flatbread. My family loves the burgers and pasta, too. The service has always been great and they have live music! 10/10 would recommend giving it a try, there's really nothing like it in the area. read more

Absolutely delicious!! We never knew this hidden gem was so close to Schaumburg. Hands down the food and drink is better thang what we've had at Chicago restaurants. Appetizers: I had the cevice and my husband had the chicken tenders. The picture of the already posted cevice are spot on. Delicious. Could use a touch more of lime juice, but that just my opinion. Entree: I had the harvest grain cous cous bowl, which came highly recommended by our server. I probably would not have ordered it if she hadn't suggested it. It. Was. DELICIOUS! My husband kept picking at my plate. He ordered the grilled cheese which was also very delicious! Drinks: We both ordered the garden mule. SO GOOD! We'll absolutely be back soon! read more

I love the idea of "farm to table" and fresh ingredients. The place itself is great and beautiful if you dine on the patio and overlook the town/river. The service & staff were very professional & nice. The food looked amazing and at first really tasted good but when you really start to taste it more, the food did not have any flavor : ( It was very bland and needs some spices and oomph to it I don't think for the price of the food it's worth it based on the average "taste" Make that yummy food pop so we can come back! : ) read more

For being open only 5 weeks, Bleuroot has it all together! Great vibe, space, food and service! The space is beautiful, hip and clean. Plenty of seating at the bar, dining areas or on the back deck. The back deck looks over the river and is a gorgeous view. That seemed to be the popular choice for most diners on a beautiful afternoon. Nice selection of craft beer, wine and cocktails. I had a Copa Morado which was vodka, blackberry liqueur, elderflower liqueur, soda and lime. It was very refreshing with the right balance of each component. My husband enjoyed an Allagash White. Menu is farm to table. Lots of choices and everything with a creative twist. Charcuterie & Cheese boards were perfect. The cheese selections were excellent as well as the meats and the pate was one of the best I've had. The flatbread was definitely homemade and there were a few different preserves to accompany your cheeses or fruit. I made sure to order a glass of Chardonnay to go along with this food selection (which was also good). I had the Avocado Toast which may sound simple but was very complex in flavors! It had a tasty tahini on the top of fresh bread, then a layer of avocado, topped with cucumber ribbons and some crushed red chilies. The red chilies really sealed the deal with the right amount of kick! Delicious! The steamed Bao Buns were creatively stuffed with a Siracha Bourbon Pulled Pork. Very moist and lots of flavor. The Sweet Potato shoestring fries were some of the best I've had. Cooked perfectly and topped with maybe a candied sea salt? I couldn't quite put my finger on it but it was delicious. Service was perfect. Our waitress was on point, friendly and informative. The manger also stopped by a few times to check on us. All in all a great addition to West Dundee! We'll be back! read more

Chose Bleuroot for dinner with a friend and made reservations for two. When we arrived we were not seated in the dining area upstairs but in the bar area, which was a little surprising, but just fine. Our server was great, decent wine choices and both of us really enjoyed our meal. I ordered food to bring home to my kids as well and my friend and I were talking while she finished her drink and we waited for our bill to come. The hostess came up to our table and asked us if we could move to the bar because they had another party waiting on our table and offered us each a "drink on the house". Again...we still hadn't received our check yet, nor were we sitting there for hours on end just chit chatting. A quick glance at the bar and there were no seats...so as we gathered our stuff to move, one of the owners came over and thanked us for moving, adding "we just have an elderly woman who is up near the band that we'd like to seat". Thankfully a group at the bar was packing up, so we took their place and continued on waiting for our check. Our server did drop the check off at the bar with us, and at that time I noticed that there was not an "elderly woman" at our table, but a group of people around the same age as myself. I really didn't mind moving, we turned down the free drink as it was unnecessary, and we didn't say or do anything that would require a blatant lie from the owner. It took an additional 20 minutes for someone to take our payment. My original thought when we were asked to move was "they could've at least waited until they brought us the check, but whatever". My next thought was "why in the world would someone lie about WHY they were moving us? So ridiculous" my final thought after waiting 20 minutes to have my payment taken "I have no interest in coming back here again ever ". Sorry Bleuroot...you had it in the bag - even with the request for us to move. The request itself was unprofessional...the lie that came along with it? Unacceptable. read more

We had a small wedding ceremony and dinner here in August 2020. Everything was exceptional. The food is outstanding and the owner and her staff took great care with all the details for our big day. The venue is historic, with a view of the river. They're taking precautions amid the Covid crisis to help their staff and customers stay safe. We loved everything about our experience with Bleuroot. read more

I can't say enough about this place. They really understand the meaning of making you feel like your the most important person in the world. The food is superb! The Chef / Owner Maria is a world class chef who's aim is to please, and a real slice of life. I have not had a bad meal there yet. But the best part of this place is the Mixologist Kevin! He'll ask you what you like, and make you something that you've never had before, and love it! And if you don't, he'll make you something else. Make an effort to check this place out. This place brings the meaning of what restaurants are supposed be. And brings class back to the Dundee area. read more

Went here for Valentine's day with my wife. Had such an amazing experience there. I ordered the spinach ravioli short ribs and it was cooked to perfection. I have to say that my waitress was very helpful while I made menu choices for my very strict diet. I had the sriracha roasted cauliflower. It was so good. The chef came out and told me how it was cooked. I told him I was very surprised he told me. He said imitation was the finest compliment. I tried to make the sriracha cauliflower at home. It was good but not like at Bleuroot. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

Great example of a good value and quality. The owners (Chef's) order all the food locally, with an emphasis on healthy foods and served fresh. The restaurant is lovely - lots of exposed brick and beams and light. The food is good... not great, but good. The service is deplorable. We were in for a (medium busy) Saturday night tonight, a party of 15. Right out of the gate, my seat mate and I ordered a Cucumber Mint martini -- and we're given something that tasted like neither. When our friend showed us the one she'd ordered, it looked and tasted completely different. Clearly they'd mixed up our order, and when I called our server's (bearded, ponytail) attention to it, he dismissed it as "two bartenders who do things differently." (Hello, quality control calling.) When I gave him a, "Yeah, and?" look, he actually asked, "So you want those replaced?" Yeah bro, I'd actually like us to have THE DRINKS WE ORDERED AND ARE PAYING FOR. Service was otherwise brusque. At meal's end, I still have plenty of leftovers, and dude just tossed me (and everyone else in our party) a takeout container. If I'm in my local deli, cool, but this is a place with $30+ entrees. Unfortunately the large party meant his tip was built in, so here's my actual tip: be a mediocre restaurant with lousy service and charge accordingly for both, or SERIOUSLY revamp your crew and standards. read more

Tried this place on Father's Day and again the following weekend. Great food, amazing atmosphere and awesome for the little ones since they are very family friendly. They have an elevator to ensure seniors can reach the 2nd level dining. The deserts are amazing the blueberry, lemon cake and blueberry beignets are to die for. A number of vegan and vegetarian options which is a rarity in this area, that was a staple! The flatbreads are unique and very flavorful. The Thai Green Pilaf was a bit bland for my taste but hey can't be 100% all the time. The portobello fries are great, the beer mimosa was new for me. A definitely go to cocktail from now on! Someone in the group tried the ravioli short ribs and said they wanted to lick the plate but decided against it. Definitely a great place to try!!! read more

That hit the spot! I'm ready for a nap. Now I am extended the review so that yelp doesn't post it as a tip, because, after all, this is not a tip. It's a review which stated, "That hit the spot! I'm ready for a nap". Not sure why Yelp needs it to be this long. OK now it's long enough. read more

One of my favorite places. Very warm and classy atmosphere with some unique and tasty options. The staff was also always very personable and considerate. I am extremely frustrated right now! This place has one of the best Vegan burgers, but their service stinks! This was my third time I was back for dinner to grab the delicious vegan burger...... HOWEVER, tonight's service, UGH. My 4 year old daughter and I walk in, the place was empty. The bartender, Kevin, sat us and took our order. And we waited, Kevin was tending bar, we waited, people started to pile in, we waited, servers started to arrive for their shifts, we waited, waited, waited, and waited. Our "server" Bartender Kevin NEVER CAME BACK TO OUR D*** TABLE! At LEAST 25 minutes later, Jody, a server approached our table and asked "Have you been helped?" WHAT THE FLIP! Have we been flip'n helped!!?!?!!? We have been sitting here for 20 plus minutes with two drinks look'n like fools, waiting, and your wondering if we have been helped yet???!!!! Soooooo frustrating! I explained to Jody, that Kevin took our order and never came back! She was like okay, walked over to Kevin, asked him, where our food was, he had some "joke" laughed, and then she went and grabbed the FOOD!! THat god only knows how long it was sitting there!! Trust me, I get it! people make mistakes, things flip'n happen..BUUUTTTTT then when she brings the food over not ONE, NOT ONE freak'n "Sorry about that" or "So, sorry" or "Oh my gosh, we are sorry" NOTHING!!!!! UGH. She brought the food over like it was meant to be that way. ANd guess what!? The food was COLD! UGH! I was soooooooooo annoyed! DOn't forget I have a flip'n VEGAN "burger" sooooo have you ever eaten a COLD VEGAN BURGER!!! It seriously taste like COLD GRASS!!!! What a joke! My sweet potato fries were cold and clumped together. soooooo.... Kevin, the bartender comes over, dumb me thinking he is going to say "Sorry about that" Yeah, not a chance! THe guy tells me, oh, I now have a large party of 9 upstairs, so I am going to put Jody on your table! I was like, okay great!! who cares, you can't even handle a 2 top, how the heck are you going to handle a 9 top? And sorry, our little 2 person table gets trumped by your 9 person table. Jody finally comes over, asks if we want dessert, while my kid is still eating, my four year old looks up at her and goes, um no fair? I was like don't worry sweetie, just keep eating. Had to ask her for refills on our water, finally she brings us out one of the glass bottle waters for our table. Just felt like every other table was way more important than our table. ANYWAYS! I am soooooooo torn now, because I really like the vegan burger, but if I am going to spend 16 bucks for a burger I want it served to me HOT. And it would of been nice for someone to say "Sorry" Have a manager come over, ANYTHING! I am putting this place on the back burner for a while. Get your staff trained! read more

What a disappointment, 7 PM reservations mean nothing to this clown car establishment. Our server was unconscious for the most part. Terrible service, Kevin at the bar is the only reason I am giving them any stars at all. We ordered a soup starter that came out immediately and then we sat there and sat there with no apology or acknowledged delay. Our server actually dropped the veggies we ordered as he was clearing our plates... again with no apology AND charged us for them...hi you cleared our plates, we asked for our bill but let me charge you for the veggies anyway. read more

We were a party of 8 (+ one baby) seated indoors in the upstairs section of the restaurant. The place is nice and we could see outside to the river. Service was prompt and kind to our large group. We had flatbreads for apps and they were AMAZING! The chilled pea soup was also delicious. However, the show stopper was the pulled pork on the bao bun....... everyone who tried it agreed it was the best bite of the night. A large party is always a little tricky but they were attentive (we'd taken Uber so all of us had multiple drink orders). The specialty drink menu was terrific and several of us enjoyed selections from it (the gin cucumber combo was my personal fav). There was some congestion going up and down the stairs (servers knocked into one another) but other than that an outstanding experience!! We will all definitely be back! read more
