Spent NYE here. The staff couldn't have possibly been any more accommodating. We are huge Bulldog fans and really wanted to watch the game. When the staff was ready to close, they left the TV on outside for us, made sure the heaters were all gassed up asked us to turn the lights out when we left . We were able to finish the game and ring in the new year before we left the restaurant. You guys have to be incredible to work for.. service like this is no coincidence. NOT to mention it is a LOT CLOSER THAN driving to New Orleans!!! My wife, a native New Orleanian, said the Shrimp Creole reminded her of her mom's. The "Cajun Popcorn" - fried crawfish tails - were great. I was a little disappointed in my BBQ Shrimp. More of an expectation thing than anything else. Not the New BBQ Shrimp I get in NOLA. The food was outstanding! I had jambalaya and my wife the fried shrimp. The jambalaya was seasoned to perfection. It had some heat, but it was very subtle building slowly until I finished the bowl. The fried shrimp had a very dark but light batter the had a hint of corn meal without overpowering the flavor of the shrimp. The cocktail sauce was second to none. It was a Wednesday night which is "locals night" with steamed oysters on special. We heard they sold 1,400 last week and probably close to that tonight based on the crowd. It seemed like many knew each other, but we were warmly welcomed at every turn by other patrons. What a great experience!!! Do yourself a favor and eat here! read more

This place blew me away. I loved the atmosphere and decor and the food was all amazing. We got the gumbo, Cobb salad and burger and all of it was incredible. Service was attentive and friendly. We are staying at the Bleu Canoe cabins for the next three days and had planned on dining at the restaurant during our stay (but did not check the hours - our bad ‍). When we arrived today (Sunday) we saw they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so even though we were pretty stuffed from a day of road trip snacks, we decided to give it a try since it would be our only chance to - and boy are we glad we did!!! If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. The food was amazing! We got the Cajun Popcorn - dont be turned off by the phrase "crawfish tails" (I assumed that meant the crunchy bit ) but they were like little shrimps and were so tasty! We also tried the andouille sausage appetizer which was a bit spicy and very delicious. My favorite was the oysters bienville - baked oysters with a creamy mushroom and shrimp sauce. Absolutely fabulous! We also tried the sautéed veggie side and some crusty French bread - just perfection! I cannot recommend enough- if you are in the area STOP HERE! We did take it to go (back to our cabin across the street) but they are taking all Covid precautions and there is a great deck with outside seating and some space heaters. Plus it is dog friendly and there is a nice fire pit to sit at before/after dinner. All the stars!! read more

This has taken me some time to write! Been going there for 5 years I am from Steinhatchee Fl went to unplug after we lost everything in Hurricane Helene. Had a ball food was great! The last night there Jim the owner came out to the fire we had and introduced us to Shep and said he was our neighbor in the next cabin over. He followed me to my cabin came on the porch while my 87yr old aunt was in there sleeping. I went into survival mode once again but out of fear not storm related. I told him to leave several times, finally had to brandish my weapon with safety off and finger on the trigger ready to shoot if he stepped any closer. Mountain Security sucks and Jim nor Leigh did not have ONE thing to say about the incident. I feel like the least we could have gotten was a apology for him turning this so called movie star out on us! Shep Rose is a drunk POS and I know that we will ever go back! It is terrible that one drunk can mess up my once was my happy place.... To the owners, you should really keep your eye on him. read more

The wife had the Fried Shrimp and I had the black and bleu ribeye. Wonderful meal. Service was great and the owner came around checking on the patrons. We order the salmon special. The salmon was white. We ask the waitress about it and she was so embarrassed about and didn't charge us for the meal. The salad was good. Gumbo was ok, a little too thin for me. Over all it was ok. Probably will not go back. read more

My husband and I found this place a couple of weeks ago. It is sort of a campsite/dive bar - great atmosphere - super friendly wait staff and very efficient. Dog friendly, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. He had the oyster sampler, and I had the fried shrimp. They were both good if not a little overcooked. We decided to go back yesterday to give it another try. It is over an hour from our home. He did the oyster sampler again but thought they were definitely overcooked. He ordered a crab cake which I did as well. Not the best one we have ever had. While this place has a great atmosphere, we were hoping for better food. What an absolute treat!! My wife and I were staying just outside of Helen and felt "meh" about the restaurants we had gone to in town. A quick zoom out on the map and Bleu Canoe popped up. It was about 15 minutes from our Airbnb and you feel right at home as soon as you pull into the parking lot. Our server could not have better. She was super patient and helped us narrow down our food choices when the whole menu looked delicious. The owner/manager stopped by and talked baseball for a little bit and made sure everything was to our liking. This place is head and shoulders above any restaurant in Helen and a lot of fun too. read more

I had been wanting to try Bleu Canoe for a while, and I finally got to the week of my birthday. It also happened to be the weekend of Mardi Gras, so I was a little hesitant about going. I figured the wait would be atrocious, but to my surprise, we (party of 4 adults and 1 child) were seated immediately. It was packed, and we got there at the perfect time. We ordered the oyster sampler for an appetizer (3 oysters Bienville and 3 oyster Rockefeller). I only ate the Rockefeller kind, but they were amazing! My dad had the 3 Bienville kind, and also ordered some as his entree. He loved them! For my entree, I ordered the Chicken Rochambeau; it consisted of 2 thinner, fried chicken breasts on top of a grilled slice of ham. It had a nice, thick sauce along with a (I think I remember correctly) bearnaise. I chose the creamed spinach and the sautéed squash/bell pepper/mushrooms for my sides. The creamed spinach had a nice big hint of nutmeg in it. It was unusual at first, but by the second bite I wasn't wanting the bowl to become empty . My dad's girlfriend got the fried shrimp, mac and cheese (which was divine), and French fries. She loved it. My husband got the andouille poboy and the same veggies as I did, and our ten year old got the penne Alfredo with grilled chicken. The bread that they bring out before your meal is nice and crusty, and just perfect. We also ordered desserts: bread pudding, the chocolate torte, and cheesecake. Our waitress, while I don't recall her name, was great despite how busy it was. It was pretty loud, but that is to be expected on a Friday night during Mardi Gras. We were exploring the area, had a wonderful experience at Mark of the Potter with such friendly people then decided to find a local restaurant to support while we were in this beautiful area. We happened upon Bleu Canoe where all the outside guests seemed happy and celebratory. We entered the main restaurant, stood for a while as various waitresses whooshed past us without any acknowledgment then decided to take a seat ourselves. Waitresses came to check on the two tables adjacent to ours and seemed to go out of their way to not make eye contact, then disappeared from sight. After this happened a second time we chose to make our exit. The friendliest chap there was a tiny Chihuahua at the outdoor bar!! Never again! Absolutely wonderful place with just the right vibe. The new owners of the old Laurel Lodge place know what they're doing and they speak Cajun! Lots of great choices on the menu including the jambalaya and incredible shrimp pasta. They don't take reservations and on a busy weekend night the drive to anywhere else will probably be almost as long as the wait to get a table. Plenty of good spots to sit and wait, or even take a leisurely Lake Burton stroll through the old Camp Cherokee grounds (which were sold to the highest bidder a long time ago). My friends have been raving about this place, so I had to try it. Such a wonderful experience! We sat comfortably on the outside deck and enjoyed the Thursday night music. The Crab Bisque is heavenly, with just the right amount of crab meat and so creamy! I also had the Blackened Mahi Mahi topped with Shrimp Etouffee and I've never had better.
