This is a great Mexican restaurant with amazing customer service and great tasting food. After a long day at the Gettysburg battlefield, this was incredibly relaxing and extremely enjoyable. Wow! We went for lunch & had a great meal! We both had the Salvadoran Pupusas.. homemade thick corn tortillas, mine stuffed w/loraco ( green veggie)& my husbands with pork... delicious... The REAL DEAL! On a recent trip to Gettysburg after a long day of walking and learning, we dropped into "The Blessing" We were greeted with a big friendly smile by our server: Talia. It was early so we had a good selection of seating in the spotless dining area. Booths and tables are available, as always; we go booth. A nice basket of Chips with Salsa was delivered while we scanned the extensive menu, best part was the salsa was warm! Almost like soup! Never had that before and from now on I'm gonna demand my salsa be warm!! My wife ordered the Quesadilla with veggies and cheese, a not overly cheesy huge plate sized quesadilla that was nicely scorched to give it that crusty crunch, served with a side of guacamole, rice and pico de gallo. The flavors were SO fresh!! I had to go with my favorite, Enchiladas with Chicken and shrimp. The huge portion of 3 enchiladas covered the platter. In retrospect I shoulda gone with 3 chicken instead of 1 chicken and 2 shrimp because the shredded chicken was moist and delicious topped with Red sauce and served with a side of perfectly cooked yellow rice and some pico de gallo--the ONLY thing missing; a Cold Beer! Unfortunately The Blessing does not serve alcohol. While we're were eating a group of 6 came in and sat down only to leave when they discovered that alcohol wasn't an option. It's too bad because this was a VERY good restaurant, but i feel it doesn't get the credit that the food and staff deserve!! So stash a couple Dos Equis in your socks and head to the blessing!! If you're seeking authentic Mexican/Salvadoran cuisine, this is your place. I grew up in Central California in the 60's and 70's and this is the stuff I've missed since I moved to the East Coast in 1981. I had 2 chicken tamales ($2.50 apiece) that came still wrapped in corn husks (part of the fun of tamales) with THE best homemade dipping sauce I've ever had...along with sour cream, if you use the sauce, you're going to need the sour cream.!! Also, had a side of their rice, it was a great compliment to the tamales. My wife had the Birria tacos, which were unlike anything we'd seen over the years - I tried them too and they were great, the description sounded unusual (dipped in beef stew and deep fried) but we were curious and very well rewarded with a fantastic take on the venerable taco. The staff were attentive, service was excellent and the ambiance was nice and cozy. We are looking forward to our next visit. We've lived in the Gettysburg area for almost a year and feel blessed that we found Blessing. read more

This review is solely based on the pupusas since that is what we ordered. Our server Mia was great and very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The ambiance was nice and clean. Now to the pupusas, they were large and had a lot of filling, but the taste was just off (and we know our pupusas). They didn't have flavor and were not enjoyable. There are other things on the menu though so you might try something else and love the place. read more

Came during my vacation to Gettysburg. Restaurant was pretty empty. Despite this there was still a slight wait for our food but it didn't bother me at the time as I was with good company. The food I ordered was not particularly flavorful and my pupusas were pretty thin and was pretty much just masa. They also charged 5$ for salsa refills but we were not told about the charge until we got our check. Others may have a better experience just make sure to order what you know you will like and beware of the salsa refills. read more

This place is truly a blessing! All 3 kids (11, 9 and 6) loved the chicken tacos and chicken quesadillas! My husband got the Carne Azada and he said it was excellent. I tried the papusoas and they were lighter than I expected. Out of the three different ones I tried the spinach/cheese was my favorite, followed by the chicken/cheese and then beans/cheese. My wife and I have been wanting to try for a while so we stopped in. Have to say we were both disappointed. We ordered Cheese Enchiladas and two different tamales and coffee. Only two tables were seated so why was the service so slow? The gentleman who took our order was very nice so that was a plus. Neither of us liked our meal. The cheese in the Enchiladas was very tough and chewy. Sauce was not flavorful and the rice was pedestrian.We did not get to try the tamales because they were never brought out. They were on our bill however and we brought it to our servers notice and he adjusted the bill. All in all a poor experience. I see other reviews are mostly positive so perhaps just try for yourself.
