Last week, I had a FANTASTIC first experience with Blazing Saddle! I brought in a Univega that I've been riding for the past 25 years. It needed a new rear derailleur cable. Travis (owner) informed me that I needed lots of work to get it back into top shape. I told him I'm happy with how it is now, I just want to be able to shift again. He was perfectly willing to just do the specific work I requested. He did a great job, and he had it ready for pick up three days later, as promised. This place is a terrible- I took my son's bike for a tube up and 2 tries =130$ later I got the bike back and the next day the tire was flat!!! The repair person said on the phone it would be at no cost- After I took it back to get re repaired he charged me 20 more dollars- The bike never had a problem before I took it to them !!! I guess that is why the shop is always empty!!! Over price / charges for things that they caused !!! Do not go to this shop!! It's a ripoff!!! read more

If you need any work on your bike, I highly recommend these guys! I took my "classic" Cannondale in for a tune up and they saved me from myself - unbeknownst to me (and many other bike shops I've had my bike tuned up in before!) my bike was at near total breakdown James was extremely honest and transparent with me: the nearly 30 years old original parts were at the end of their life. It was time to completely update or get a new bike. I opted to update; I guess I'm a sucker for that classic, lightweight Cannondale frame. And this shop specializes on bike overhauls. Glad I did! The team did a fantastic job! Best part is that I basically have a safer, faster "new" bicycle for 1/3 the price of an actual new one. Yea!! Excellent customer service and although they are slammed with work, they finished my overhaul in about a week. Bonus: look the the Groupon for a pleasant discount, too. read more

I bought my ebike on line but they quickly tuned it up after 700 miles for a fair price. Bike rides l like new!They even swamped out a part that failed, using a part provided by the on line seller. I used to respect this business. But, after one initial 'good' interaction I have now had several 'bad' interactions. It seems as though they only care when you are making a large purchase, i.e. 'buying a new bike'. I guess repeat business is not their main goal. When I bought my bike they told me I had 1 year to come in to receive 1 free professional tune up. I came to receive my tune up and purchase a few accessories including a rear rack. The person who helped me took my bike and rack and said they would call me when the tune up was done. No mention of the rack. When I returned I was charged a 'light cleaning' fee and a 'rack install' fee. Totaling $35. If they had told me my bike needed to be more clean and that there would be additional fees for the rack I would have gone back home and washed my bike and installed the rack myself as it is just a few screws and the holes are already there for it on the bike. But there was no communication about these up charges before the work was done and since the work was done I decided that I would pay and chalked that up to it being a young sales guy who wasn't skilled in customer interactions. Additionally, I told them I was having issues with my brake before the tune up. When the tune up was finished they said it was all good. I asked the guy what the issue was and he said something was loose. I asked him to show me where it was loose because as a newer bike owner, I want to learn some basic maintenance incase I get caught on a trail somewhere and need to temporarily fix something. His response was something along the lines of - "well if you ever have an issue you just bring it in for a professional tune up and we will take care of it". OK but you can't even tell me what/where the problem was? That was when I really started to think "what is with this place?" So I took my bike away and now, after the 'professional' tune up I have had to fix my brakes on my own 3 times because the same piece keeps getting loose. I learned on my own how to fix this issues bc I can't even ask the local bike shop where I purchased my bike and have continued to spend $100's after the fact won't even give me basic bike maintenance tips. That was a huge blow to my confidence in the business. Yet, I continued to patron them because I want to spend money locally and help local businesses. Which brings me to why I have finally decided to change my review from a 5 star to a 1 star. I went back in yesterday because my tire blew out on the trail over the weekend. I bought two new tubes (one to replace and one as a back up) as well as multiple other accessories. During the install I noticed the tire wasn't holding air. So I took the tube out and it had a hole in it. I went back to bring the defective tube. Well they told me they couldn't exchange it because it was out of the box and because it is their thought that it was the tire tool that caused the hole. OK thats a theory and it's totally based on what their perception of what I would describe as an extremely light 'smudge' near the hole. A smudge so light they literally had to blow the tire up way past regular size to even see. The tube is $8. I bought it yesterday. I also bought other items yesterday. For an $8 piece they wouldn't exchange it. You can tell me that you see it one way but that such a subjective outlook, you cannot tell me that there is no way the tube wasn't 'defective'. And regardless of that fact, an $8 piece to exchange seems like a simple courtesy you would do for your customers if you valued them and their repeat business. So clearly I am not valued as a customer unless I am making a large purchase. I can't rely on your shop for basic maintenance tips and tricks. And the communication for what will be charged for services is not communicated upfront. Those are just too many reasons for me to want to come back and continue to spend money and continue to send my friends and family for purchases and services. I hope you can see this side of the coin and make the customer experience a higher priority in future interactions. read more

When I first moved into the neighborhood, my relationship with Blazing Saddles got off to a rocky start. That said, boy have they redeemed themselves! The false start is something that I will assume much of the responsibility for, as my non-Cleveland demeanor does take some getting used to. Over the past few years years the have done some really good work for me on my ride. I've had my treasured Peugeot for going on 37 years, and am very particular about who works on her. Recently, I took her in for her first tear down and rebuild. These folks did the most amazing job! I had forgotten just how much a sweet ride she can be. I'll go out on a limb, but I think she may be better now than when she was new. I can't sing their praises loud enough and could not possibly be happier! read more

Great guys. This is the shop that isn't so "uptight".... Friendly staff, not to mention they had exactly the obscure part needed to fix my broken KHS! $16.50 and 8 minutes and I was good to go! Obviously not all fixes are gonna be this cheap on an almost $2000 bike, but this is all the proof id ever want of an honest place. I have literally been to every bike shop in this city. If I hear about a bike shop - I have to check it out. It's like a sickness... I know. Just ask my wife. So.... I kinda hate to be a salmon going against the stream on this shop. But my 2nd experience here was awful. There are shops that I love and shops that I dont... but this was the worst. Maybe I set my hopes too high after talking to James. (I am ONLY giving a 2nd star instead of 1 because James was kind. The other dude, unfortunately, ruined it). My first impression was awesome. James was super friendly and showed me their bikes and talked about the custom frame-builders (Capitol and Gringo) they work with. Seemed like just the place I'd like to get to know and test out some sweet custom rides like I was looking for. I was looking for a stainless or Ti whip and not a carbon frame that are all the rage today. James understood. That day, however, I was in my work clothes and not ready to test ride. I was coming back. So I went back... on my bike... proper shoes on..,. chamois under my shorts - ready to ride and buy. I loved that they sell Capitol bikes manufactured just south of here and I was ready to try them out. Nope. Wasn't happening on that day apparently. This time it was a different story all together. Guy behind the counter was smug. He seriously did NOT want to sell a bike to me. It was as if I looked like a guy that had just insulted his sister. The dude wouldn't let me take out any bike that wasn't carbon. Never mind that I was leaving my own sweet bike in the shop - it wasn't like I was gonna ride off with theirs. Bogus. I asked about another sweet ride from Gringo - nope! He claimed it was created by an out of business manufacturer and that "liability reasons" prevented him from letting me ride it. What?!? Then why is it on the sales floor among all the other bikes for sale? Why do you have bikes on the floor... that I can touch... but cant test ride? I wish I hadn't gone on that day. I wish I had a better experience. Terrible. What a putz. Go anyplace but here. You could even go to Bike Authority. Go to Bike Ohio. Go to Century Cycles. From stock to custom - those places treat a customer like a customer. read more

I have had very mixed reviews in this shop, depending who was working. The majority of times, however, was definitely negative. Disrespectful worker (which I believe was one of the owners). He was condescending even though I previously spent more money on a couple of parts than I should have there a month or two prior (and for a tune up that took about twice as long as quoted). I bought my bike elsewhere two years ago, but brought it here for its first tuneup. The basic tuneup price was $65. When I dropped my bike off they checked it over quickly to make sure all it would need was the basic level tune up. Basic was all I needed, but they also measured the stretch of the chain and found that it needed to be replaced ($24 part; $10 labor). And they were happy to show me how they measured it and explain the need for replacing it. I was quoted a pickup time of a week, but was surprised to find my bike ready in just a couple of days. Pickup and drop off is easy as there is free street parking right in front of the shop. The shop is pretty small compared to others, but in addition to bikes, there is a good selection of helmets, tools and other accessories. read more

Jeremy and James were super helpful and on top of things. I left a message because they were closed for their company retreat. Jeremy called me first thing the next morning. James is a super mechanic and always treated me with respect. Many shops treat women poorly - IMHO. I did *not* feel this way at Blazing Saddle. He was honest and transparent. I am happier with my bike than when I purchased it at *another* shop (I swear the bike is a lemon or I just fell into the stupid Specialized cult). I thought the prices were fair, if not better than other shops. I won't go to any other shop in Cleveland - and I have looked hard and have been to many - with great disappointment. So - I highly recommend this shop ... b/c so many shops in CLE are not up to Colorado or California levels - Call me a snob. Don't care. Go to Blazing Saddle for great customer service. For James. I don't understand what these people's problem is. They don't wanna fix anything for me ever. They always try to get me to buy a new bike. If you don't buy it from them then they don't wanna help you. The one guy there is an annoying person who always comes up with outlandish bullshit to try n sell his own products. Had a bike one month and something was wrong with the chain and it turns into something is wrong with the whole bike. This place is a waste of time to deal with. read more

When I moved from Tremont back to Detroit Shoreway, I was just too far from wacky Mitch and checked out Blazing Saddle. The exterior looks real bad-ass and rustbelt chic. I felt like there might be a dress code of skinny jeans, dirty t-shirts, and scruffy faces...which foreshadowed that perhaps I was not cool enough to even walk in. Regardless, my Nishiki was in great need of some assistance with my wonky tires, so I made the plunge. Not only was I correct in thinking that I wasn't cool enough to be there, but it seemed to be the direct mission of the two male employees to be sure I was painfully aware of that inferiority in not only the cool factor, but also in my knowlege of bicycles. Well, no duh, if I had the same knowledge about bicycles as you, then I wouldnt be at your shop in the first place. I seriously did not need to hear a sassy speech about how my bike is junky. Sorry I don't have $1000 to invest in a custom-made blah blah blah. I asked you, as a customer, to do a simple job. Somehow you found it necessary to assume I needed an earful about how I don't know as much as you. I knew enough to just know what I needed right then, and I felt a complete lack of regard in your response. However, I kept it to myself, as everyone deserves a second chance. A couple weeks later I found myself needing new tubes. I was running a little behind getting to work, so I asked if they would put them in for me. I was expecting the industry standard around 10 dollars per tube change (price of tube included), but they were about to charge me something like 13-14 per change? Not including the tubes? What, am I in Manhattan or something? I was going to just say the hell with it and pay anyways, but i was two dollars short. At that point, it was apparent that they had zero interest in keeping me as a customer, as they refused to cut two bucks off their astronomical service charge when I was clearly in a bind. I decided I'd rather walk and be late to work than deal with these goons. I'm just sticking with Fridrich's or Joy Machines. Awful experience I have never been so insulted by a place of business. I took my Gary fisher in because the bolt that holds the handlebars broke, when I told the guy at the counter he laughed in my face and said I don't sell stuff like that. I asked if he knew where I could find the bolt and he once again laughed in my face and said home depot is the only place I know that has standard bolts. There should be a sign on the door that says hipsters only because if you don't look the part you get treated like an idiot. Since visiting this place I have been to many other shops that are willing to point you in the right direction if they can't help you themselves. read more

Came in to buy a lock and a rack, was able to leave the bike there for about an hour and have the rack assembled for me for a small fee. Very helpful guys in the shop and I didn't feel any judgement from them considering I was bringing in my moms old mountain bike that she gifted to me recently - i wouldn't even be mad if they did. And as any good business, they pointed out a couple items to fix, which I plan to return to have them work on! read more

I've been to most of the other bike shops in the city and Blazing Saddles blows them all away. They have a smaller retail selection but everything is very carefully selected. They won't try to hustle you the latest overpriced hipster gear but instead will take the time to find out what your exact needs are and match you with the right item even if it isn't the most expensive. They are polite, knowledgeable and have loads of integrity. When it comes to repair they are hands down the best in the city. Even when another bike shop messed up a repair on my bike, Travis was willing to come in early the next day to fix it for me before work. They do beautiful maintenance on bikes and their custom builds are a work of art. I can't say enough good things about this shop. read more

Wow. Cool shop run by people who love -- and sell -- all kinds of bikes. The shop is not big, and nor is its inventory, but they more than make up for it with quality and quantity of options, including locally made frames. That's in addition to a full line of mountain, road, cross, touring and city bikes. They also have a handful of lovingly restored used bikes, most of which are really nice and unique. I'm still loyal to my other shop, but I'll be back to Blazing Saddles to peek at their various treasures. read more

As far as i'm concerned, this is the only bicycle shop worth going to in the area. These cats do a great job and never talk down to you. They stock tons of awesome stuff in their store and will order anything you need. They also have un "fixed" bikes for my friends that other local bike shops botched. read more

with my bike tuned up my saddle is blazing along Detroit Ave now - stopped to have road bicycle tuned up and had a very positive experience with how the shop got me right in and how they called me when it was done - in and out of the shop with payment was smooth ...also met the shop mascot (...he's a good boy) haha - very cool experience read more

I was bike shopping this past Friday and was happily surprised by this shop. I didn't end up purchasing a bike here as I was looking for something very specific, but nonetheless was very impressed with the service and selection of this awesome local bike shop!
