I think the problem with Mountain Road Cycles is like a lot of places these days, rotating staff. I called a month or so prior and got someone who seemed relatively pleasant and somewhat helpful. When I called today to have my bike checked out I was told "sure we are not busy, bring it in, we'll look at it and if nothing is really wrong with it there won't be much of a charge, we'll get you in and out". When I brought it in 30 minutes later it was another story. The short dirty looking fellow that came out to "help" me was condescending and said to even look at it all, I'd have to leave it there and it would cost almost 100 dollars after tax. He had a seriously nasty attitude and was trying to get rid of me as quickly as possible. How busy can they be in March? Anyway, I told him that's not what I was told on the phone and he said it was. I told it that it most certainly was not and I left. Huge waste of my time and I'm glad I only brought one bike in. I have four. I planned on having some work done on a couple of them there too. I wanted to see how this went first. If you didn't buy one of their bikes, don't take it there. That's the message I got. Typical attitude for the area. read more

I purchased a mountain bike from Mountain road last year, I had my eye on a specific Giant and they were one of the only folks in the country that had any left. They did everything they could to help me out and were incredibly prompt. The bike shipped quick, even though they had to disassemble and repack it since it was on their floor and even though I was many states away. When the bike arrived, I noticed some paint had sluffed off the rocker arm. They comped the part and sent me a new one immediately. Great staff at Chagin Falls and Berea! I purchased my first cyclocross bike at the CF location in 2010 and was impressed that the staff took the time to ensure that all of my questions were answered and they took the time to properly fit the bike to me. Fast forward to 2012 and I returned to the CF location and Jacob (the owner) again politely answered every "next bike" question I could throw at him. The model I was looking for was in-stock at their Berea location and, because I live downtown, decided to check Berea a few weekends later (although Jacob offered to have the model brought to the Chagrin Falls store for me). At the Berea store, I worked with Paul to hammer-out a deal on a Kona Jake the Snake model and again, they took the time to fit the bike. In addition, Paul swapped shifter/ derailleurs from my "old bike" to my wife's bike (upgrade for her) for a silly-reasonable price. Great job, Mountain Road!! read more

Yay!!! New Mountainbike!!!! Okay for an update about my experience, this was the third shop that I went to but no worries as it was a sunny Sunday afternoon with windows down blaring oldschool punk music with Starbucks in hand!!!! So the Mountain Road in Berea called the Chagrin location and they had a Kona Cindercone in stock that fit me...I meandered my way out and long story short I was heading home with a new bike to throw myself around on!!! I have been a Mountain Road customer for about 10 years and felt like I should share my experiences. The service, selection, knowledge and lack of high pressure sales sets this shop apart. Over the years, I've bought 6 bikes there. Jacob and his team are extremely knowledgeable about all types of bikes including road, mountain, hybrid, touring, racing and even kids bikes. I have daughters and they love the fact that Mountain Road carries a woman-specific brand as well. Mountain Road will go out of their way to help you find what you want and, unlike other local shops, they do not pressure you into buying what they have in stock. Horrible Business. Stay away! I would give zero stars if that was an option. I will very rarely write reviews unless the situation was extraordinary in one way or another. This situation was extremely awful. I had purchased 3 bikes from this store and that initial experience was merely satisfactory but I really didn't feel like shopping around. As part of that purchase I felt that the handlebars were spread too far apart. It felt unnatural and was putting strain on my wrists and elbows. The salesman told me that it took some getting used to and encouraged me to purchase the bike and try it out for a few weeks and if I still didn't like it then they would modify the handlebars for me at no charge. It was understood as part of the purchase agreement that I would get that service. We called and I was led to believe that the service would be same day. When I arrived I was immediately and aggressively asked to leave the store because I was not wearing a mask. I had not brought a mask and would have put one on if I had one but had forgotten to take with me. I respect any business owner decision on this front but I felt they were needlessly aggressive with me. The manager (Matt) then told me he was able to speak with me outside the shop. He came out and an I showed him what I was looking to modify. He was being needlessly difficult and only half paying attention. I don't know what his problem was if he was upset about the mask thing or what but I felt he was extremely dismissive and didn't care at all about my issue. Here comes the rub! He tells me that its going to take 2.5 weeks to modify the bike! I'm bewildered because honestly its just making a cut on both sides and putting the grip back on. It becomes clear that the actual repair will only take about an hour but that they are 2.5 weeks backed up on repairs. That is fine I say just give me a call in 2.5 weeks and I will pop over with the bike. No. He informs me that the bike has to sit in their store for that entire 2.5 weeks. This is the store policy and cannot and will not be changed. If I don't like it I'm told that I can find another bike shop. I try to reason with Matt. I make the point that the weather is finally good and I don't want to lose the use of the bike for 2.5 weeks just so that it can sit there in their store. I point out that all these repair bikes must be taking up a ton of space in the store and would limit their ability to hold inventory and make sales. Matt is getting very agitated at this point and tells me that it would not be fair to other customers that are in line for repairs. I respond that I'm not looking to jump the line but that wouldn't it make more sense to have a list and that if people are not there at the assigned time then they lose spot on list or something. There was no reasoning with him and I decided that I needed to discuss with the owner. Matt insisted that owner (Jacob) would say the same thing. Matt's entire posture was aggressive. We were having a spirited discussion but that was all just a discussion about an absurd store policy. I mentioned that I thought this treatment was fraudulent as the repair was a condition of the purchase. He basically told me to screw off and find a new bike store and went inside. He also mentioned he might sue me for not wearing a mask if he got the covid. To top it all off I get in touch with the owner and he basically screams at me that I'm banned from his store and that I abused and threatened his employee and that he is making a police report. What a joke. It's a total lie. My son was with me outside the whole time. The owner Jacob would not even listen to my side of the story. I thought we were going to try to resolve and instead it was just more abuse. I should make my own police report but will have to settle for trying to get a refund of some kind through other process. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE DISHONEST AND BAD PEOPLE! read more

Bought my bicycle here a couple months ago and the staff was absolutely wonderful! They were very knowledgeable, helpful, respectful and friendly. They listened to my needs, made suggestions and ordered what I needed. They called when a delivery date was needing to be changed. They didn't talk down to me even though I knew very little about bikes and didn't try to sell me more than what I was looking for. My bike was fully assembled and it was suggested I'd need to come back for adjustments in a month or so. Since Chardon is much closer to my home, I was told I can go to their store there for servicing. I LOVE my bike and it fits my needs perfectly. I'd highly recommend this shop! read more

I've just recently purchased two Giant carbon fiber road bikes and couldn't be happier with the quality and performance of these bikes. The staff was helpful and willing to let me test out items before I purchased anything. The selection of bicycles is kind of small, but everything is great quality. I think some of the accessories were over-priced, but overall you get what you pay for. read more
