My husband & I stumbled upon this authentic restaurant while headed to Kerrville, Texas. We had visited a sister Blanco location during a previous visit. Both entrees ordered were high quality, flavorful, and the portions were sizable. When we arrived the restaurant was crowded, but we were acknowledged and greeted appropriately. Our waitress was patient, knowledgable, thorough and knew the menu items quite well. She recommended both beef and cheese enchilada plates as their top sellers. The decor was typical for a Mexican restaurant and had been in business for a long time. I highly recommend this original Mexican restaurant and will be back again. read more

This Blanco Cafe has amazing service. Above all has great Mexican American food. Especially their Mexican Dinner was great... I love their 3 Cheese Enchiladas with chili con carne served with beans and rice... were great tasting served. Also came with a Chalupa and a beef taco. It was served hot . We always get the Deluxe Mexican Plate. It never disappoints! I usually eat the first course and save the second course (enchiladas and rice and beans) for dinner. Their breakfast tacos are delicious. Be prepared to wait and be seated. It's always busy and tables are full. I suggest going with extra time to spare..the wait is worth it! Staff is excellent. Seriously, the absolute best enchiladas I have ever eaten anywhere, ever!!! I ordered the enchiladas trio, which has 3 enchiladas, 1 chicken, 1 beef, and 1 cheese, plus a slice of bacon (what? OMG, awesome bonus!). My wife ordered the cheese enchiladas, which has 3 cheese enchiladas topped with two fried eggs. The enchiladas were appropriate drenched in their delicious red enchilada sauce and topped with cheese, and of course the plate has rice and beans on the side. These are relatively standard dishes that one could order in any Mexican restaurant, but there was some massive love in every single morsel of the food on these plates, and you could taste it. I could barely understand what was happening in my mouth. Even just the iced tea I ordered was inexplicably delicious. I fell in love and I am still thinking about that food after two days, and I'll probably be thinking about it after this! We were just visiting San Antonio and checking out all the cool shops on Blanco and saw people in line outside of this place. Now we understand why! As if this place needed any more positives beyond the food, it is clear that Blanco Cafe is a very well-loved place by its community members. I had to leave. I sat by the bar and noticed their ice setup - a tub of ice with an ice-scooper swimming in it. Servers and cooks used bare hands from this tub, even for serving. Peering into the kitchen, I witnessed a cook eating pizza without gloves while preparing food, and none of the cooks wore gloves. While the food seemed tempting, I can't dine at a place where sanitation and cleanliness aren't priorities. read more

Some of the best American cheese enchiladas that I've had in a really long from an establishment with impeccable previous health scores. A friend of mine from Facebook posted a photo of these and I had to try them. The staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. I've seen complaints that mention wait times, yeah well be patient. A lot of people don't want to work these days and that stretches everyone else's service thin, literally. If you want to eat out give the the restaurant enough time to do what needs to be done. If they don't comply with your request the first time give the a reminder. They're human too and doing things for several other tables. Remember to always tip because you were served. read more

My BFF and were in the mood for good menudo for Sunday breakfast. We were both so disappointed. The wait was very long, which I understand,it's a popular place, and because of this they signs everywhere: prices had gone up, they don't seat incomplete parties and you have to leave in an hour!! The food was horrible, menudo was bland, not fully cooked, the service was adequate. Across the street is Julia's Bristo and bar,which we went later in the afternoon. In the 6 months I have moved to San Antonio. I have fallen in love with Tex Amex and eat it every day. Blanco cafe might be the best food I have ever had. Have been there 3 times now and every dish is amazing. Their is a sign that says "voted best enchiladas in San Antonio" well I'm here to tell you that is the truth. I have had none better. Blanco Cafe is the Tex Mex I've been missing since moving away from Texas. No frills, just delicious basic food. We hit them for dinner and timed it just right. There were maybe 3 tables seated when we walked in about 5:45pm but when we left at 6:30 almost every table was full. And they close at 7 as they are mostly a breakfast/lunch place. But the locals apparently know where to go for a quick dinner and I'm glad we joined them. I had the Carne Guisada and it was terrific. The beef chunks were so tender while the rich sauce they were in just added to the flavor. The rice was excellent while the refried beans had a creamy consistency I've missed. Blanco Cafe has been named the best enchiladas in San Antonio and my wife had to agree. Neither of us have had puffy tacos before but we will from now on, if we can find them back home. Last but definitely not least, are the flour tortillas. OMG I have sooo missed flour tortillas with my meal. It seems to be standard at most Mexican restaurants in Texas, why don't they do this at home? I'd forgotten about this. And these were so good, thicker and fluffier than those pale imitations I've been enduring for the past 35 years. They were Tex Mex pancakes of love. I had never been to this location before, I was there last Sunday and boy, I've been missing out! I had the Trio Enchilada (one chicken, one beef and one cheese enchilada with rice and beans and it also comes with side tortillas), everything was delicious! My partner had breakfast tacos (yay, breakfast served all day!) Barbacoa and egg w/bacon. The flour tortillas are probably the best i've tried in San Antonio. Once you have a table, service is very quick, friendly, food gets there fast and its just fresh and delicious! There is a significant and amazing truth to a restaurant which can be consistently delicious and so perfect for over 30 years. I wasn't really planning on coming here, but my Bf's mom wanted a quick bite so we came here and oooh boy the line was long and my bf's mom waited 30 mins before they got seated (It was all worth it thought lol) So I'm not really a fan of Mexican food, and if I were to go to a Mexican restaurant, it's always going to be the same place) only because they have my favorite shrimp & beef fajita plate. I am not a fan of Mexican food and I dislike enchilada. The moment I got here my bf's mom said that they have the best enchiladas in town (the restaurant even got the best enchilada in SA) and oooh girl, IT WAS DELICIOUS. I can tell the difference if this enchilada from the other once I've had. So their enchilada is very creamy, the cheese tasted sooo good and it just went with everything on that plate. The tortilla is also VERY VERY VERY good! It's so authentic, I love it. The only thing I probably disliked is the sweet tea because it wasn't as sweet, but some sugar aided it. My husband and I stopped in for the first time for lunch today. They are a very cute, hole in the wall cafe. The long bar still has the old spinning stools attached to the floor so made me think of the old days. They opened in 1972 and most of the people that work there have been there forever which is always nice.
