Honestly, just thinking about the wisdom tooth extraction I had yesterday makes my eyes flush hot with tears. I wish to god I'd read the "filtered reviews" on this site before going to see Dr. Eckert. I'm telling you, that those reviews sound EXACTLY like what happened to me.
First of all, I elected to have nitrous oxide for this procedure. I asked the nurse, before the operation if there was any difference in pain between the "twilight'" and the "laughing gas" options. She said No, but that the twilight would make it so you wouldn't remember a thing. The "twilight" was $500 and the Nitrous Oxide was $92 so I figured, I'd save $400.
This procedure was absolutely, 100% horrifying. When he began to shoot my mouth with Novocain, he never once looked at me and told me what he was doing. He just slammed that needle into my mouth, jaw, gums. Each time without warning, without looking me in the eye and saying "ok, here's another one, some pain right now." It was like he was pretending I was asleep, and not there, and just a body.
After the shots my body got a rush of adrenaline. I felt so afraid and I felt my fight or flight instincts kick in. His nurse noticed I was shaking, and there were tears streaming from my eyes. She checked in on me. Honestly if it wasn't for this woman, I would not have been able to sit through this procedure.
The first upper tooth was incredibly painful. Each time, I gripped my seat in pain, Dr. Eckert would turn around and face the wall, making a chiding noise, while the nurse tried to calm me down. He was annoyed that I was in pain, and proceeded to yank harder and harder when he tried again, at one point slamming his hand into my lower lip on the release of a yank. I never saw even 1 note of empathy in this man. The whole experience felt like something out of the Middle Ages. During the 1st tooth there was not enough Novocaine, and after it was pulled, I heard the nurse say "Whoops, the Nitrous tank wasn't turned up all the way." WHAT!
For the second tooth, they put in an extra shot of Novocaine and turned up the tank. The Dr. was equally brutal, but at least it hurt less. There was a moment during the extraction, while I was weeping, when I just felt so violated by this man. The bill for this treatment was ~$1500 (out of pocket).
DO NOT VISIT DR. ECKERT. Read the filtered reviews. I didn't write those, but they are eerily similar experiences to mine. He is truly something out of a horror movie. I will now only ever use an oral surgeon that someone I PERSONALLY KNOW has used. read more
