We were visiting some friends in Milton and wanted to get a bite for lunch before heading out. They suggested Blackwater Bistro. The place is really quaint with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The menu includes a great variety of different items. The soup of the day was a green chili chicken stew that sounded too good to pass on, so I ordered that along with a side of Gouda grits and a side of sautéed green beans. The grits were delicious! The green beans were very good; and the soup was good. My wife ordered the Philly Cheesesteak with sweet potato criss-cut fries. The fries were bomb! The sandwich was okay, she was trying to figure out what was missing. On the way home she realized it was missing cheese. A cheesesteak without cheese?!?! Service was very good. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. This bistro is not cheap by any stretch, but it is good and I'm sure we'll return. read more

Growing up in Pea Ridge, I've heard of the illustrious Blackwater Bistro my whole childhood. This was the fancy place in town to go to if you had a hot date, or for before you go to prom. I never made it out, though, until I moved away, got a job, and then came back to visit recently. I went out to explore downtown Milton some, checked out Blackwater State Park, and got hungry and decided to finally come check this place out for lunch. So we drove up, got a table, and started browsing the pamphlet they gave us of the history of the building. It was a quaint little read. The restaurant is in an old house that had many different lives over the course of its existence. It was wooden, comfortable, had a nice bar built into it. Very cozy and rustically upscale. The service was also very good. A nice lady that tended to all of our drink needs. Very pleasant. And the food came out in a timely fashion. As for the food, we started with the The Sampler (A mixture of our house favorites: Artichoke cheesecake, Baguette, Loaded Brussel Sprouts with Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp with Mango Chutney). This was nice. I love a good savory cheesecake, you don't see that very often. It was very interesting loading the sprouts with shrimp, but I've never said no to a shrimp. And the coconut shrimp were pretty standard. It was a good plate, but not mind-blowing, if you wanna try a different app. My main was the Creole Crawfish & Andouille Pot Pie (Louisiana Crawfish, Savory Vegetables, Andouille, Cajun Cheese Cream, Puff Pastry). This is a loose-leaf pot pie. So basically a gumbo with a puffy piece of puff pastry on top. So it's a lot of fun, but don't expect a lot of crust with each bite. Super creamy, super Cajun in the seasoning, no regrets getting this. I also got to try the The Blue Salad (Filet of Beef. Signature Assorted Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Cucumber, Bleu Cheese, Balsamic Vinaigrette, Candied Pecans, Bleu Cheese Dressing). This was a good salad! Nice and tender strips of filet, funky bleu cheese, sweet and crunchy pecans. I love a nice interesting salad like this. Nothing boring involved. And a ton of that delicious dressing. Pros: Ambiance was very cool. The restaurant is built in a historic house in downtown Milton. Very classical and rustic and old feeling, in a good way. Service was very nice. All our needs were met, and food and drink came out very promptly. Food was great! Everything was cooked very well, and they had an appetizer sampler, which I love so much. Cons: No real cons. A nice experience. Tips: Get the appetizer sampler. Sharing is caring. And the seafood pot pie was very fun and delicious. First time here and was recommended. Parking in an unpaved all ground up coral is not our thing. Dust everywhere and not happy with our shoes all chalky coming into our vehicle. The place is very quaint and historic but seating is a little tight. Waitress was nice and made a few suggestions which I ordered. A chicken salad on a croissant.Nothing fancy and the croissant was too thin as it kept falling apart. The sweet potato fries looked crispy but as I picked one up-it was covered with salt! I tried eating another one but could not stomach it. The waitress offered to replace it but my stomach was upset and couldn't handle any more fries. Last meal, maybe? I took my best friend with terminal cancer for his possible last meal out. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated, which was acceptable. Fifteen minutes passed, and no one took our drink order. I noticed people who came in after us were beginning to receive their food. I approached the wait staff and politely told one of the servers about our situation. She breezed by me and said I don't know who your waitress is. Five minutes later, a waitress was heading to our table as we quietly left. Twenty-nine minutes from the time we entered the restaurant to the time we left. My dear friend is a local and was exhausted from just the short walk to and from the car. The locals we know who eat here regularly rave about this place. This is my second time here...I'm not local but have enjoyed this place both times I've come! The service was great- Natalie was an awesome server... she was attentive, friendly, and funny! She gave good suggestions- the lumpia and brussel sprouts were very tasty!! The brussels were my favorite. For entrees, we all had something different: chicken bacon ranch wrap, cheeseburger, fish divine, triple threat pasta, and the gumbo. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. My wrap was great and good size, very filling. Portion sizes are plentiful! It's a nice date night spot or a fun night out with coworkers. First time dining here and it was excellent! Restaurant interior is an old home style. The bar room was very nice with an acceptable amount of room. We dined outside on the front porch since it was a nice sunny day in May. We were greeted promptly by our server, Josi, who took our drink order and helped us navigate the menu. We skipped apps, but ordered 2 cups of soup, Roasted Red Pepper Gouda and the Chicken and Andouille gumbo. Both were excellent and we would highly recommend both. Our entree was the Portobello Chicken Dagenheart. The entree too, was excellent and would HIGHLY suggest trying. The "side" we ordered were the sweet potato waffle fries. We almost ordered an additional side because they were absolutely delicious!! We have had sweet potato fries many many times and these were best we've ever had! For desert we ordered the bread pudding and it certainly did not disappoint. The bourbon sauce was balanced very well and the pecans add a great texture. As we wrapped up our meal and waited for our bill, I made the remark to Josie that our entire experience was nothing less than 5*. Went to eat brunch and was told to remake my mule myself ..when asked to speak to a manger the waitress started crying and the "manger" rolled her eyes so then the person above them came out and said we where verbally abusing his staff and to leave . So, I have been meaning to check this restaurant out with my wife since we moved to Milton. We finally went last Thursday night, and it was a very quaint older home converted into a restaurant. We sat in the bar area and were waiting on immediately. We were still in dry January so we couldn't partake in the specialty cocktails, Damn! We started with the sampler platter, which included artichoke cheesecake with French baguette, hummus with pita, and six coconut shrimp with orange marmalade. The artichoke cheesecake was light and creamy great flavor, and the hummus and pita were awesome as well as the coconut shrimp. All in all it was not a bad item on this plate. For dinner, my wife had a steak salad, steak and blue and I had the seared sesame seed Ahi tuna. I would rank my wife's steak salad I'll be minus as the steak was over cooked. That said my I ahi tuna was an A+. My wife ranked it as one of the best she's ever had. My Caesar salad was good as well. We finished with dessert, my wife had the seasonal key lime pie (excellent) and I always go to the bread pudding because I owned an Irish restaurant and we had the best bread pudding in Baltimore. The bread pudding here was Marie's bourbon, pecan bread pudding, and it was extremely good. It was topped with a butter scotch glaze and just throwing my two cents in, but I think if they had a little more bourbon influence it would have sent it over the top! but it was already a strong A. Two stars honestly feels too high but man, the service was bad, the food was bad, this was just a terrible experience. We came in to celebrate a new job. Started with the sampler platter - the artichoke cheesecake was the one tasty thing of the whole meal. The coconut shrimp were too sweet and the hummus was bland. I had the Cajun pasta which was flavorful but just a pool of oil at the bottom. My husband had the steak divine which was inedible. The drinks were a disappointment too. Our server checked on us never and we had to have someone find her to eventually pay the check. To boot, we spent $130 on this terribly disappointing meal. read more
