I can tell why Coffee Cup has been around since 1945! We need more places like this. The food was simple and delicious. It was a busy Sunday morning, but we got a seat within 5 minutes and the staff here made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Our drinks were never empty and our food came out quickly. Everyone working here was so friendly, especially the sweet old lady up at the front. I love the charm of old breakfast restaurants and this place checked every box; great food, awesome staff, and a cool location. From the moment we walked in, I knew we were in for a treat. Do yourself a favor and get the gravy, it's the best I've ever had. I got the simple breakfast and it was perfect, they even ask if you want any additional items added to your hash browns, so I had to go with some onion. So I just loved this place! It's like walking straight into the past. It was like being Marty McFly walking into the diner in Back to the Future. The place was packed! One empty table for two... we got it! Lucky, I guess. In any case, the place is decorated like it's 1950. You look around and just can't help but feel nostalgic. The servers work together to keep coffee cups filled and to make sure everyone's happy. On to the food. It was great. The biscuits and gravy as well as the hash browns were off the hook! Have been here twice. It's very much a "greasy spoon". Think grandma's old farmhouse with the creaking doors and decades of hand grub on the trims, random patches of unmatched paint, that sort of thing. I appreciate the ornate old metal bar stools, and that the bathroom doesn't suck. Food and service-wise, the first visit was great! I got over easy eggs and Impossible sausage, with biscuit and Nassau grits. Eggs were perfect. Nassau grits were tasty, although a tad cool when received. Biscuit was as good a biscuit as you get. Everyone else had omelets, the size of which was enough for two meals. We left very satisfied with the experience. About the only thing I can say negative about it is that I asked what kind of hot tea they had and was told they had "herbal" tea. I got that and it turned out to be black tea, which I can't drink. I'm not sure how you confuse the two. The second visit, this time on a busy Sunday, was considerably worse. We waited for about 10-15 minutes to be seated due to the tables being full, and all the chilly people standing in the open door made the room quite drafty. When I finally received my food after a long wait, it was cold and undercooked. My over easy eggs were entirely clear and runny on one side, something that was evident immediately to everyone at the table, so I'm not sure how it was missed by the kitchen. My grits, this time plain ones, were also cold, and sadly bland. The coldness may also have had to do with the fact it took flagging down two different waitresses and waiting at least 10 minutes for one to finally get me some utensils so I could eat. The rest of us got po' boys. As I understand it, they were fine. Maybe a tad on the dry side. If I was giving a rating for the first visit, it was easily 4 stars. The second though, I struggle to grant even a charitable 3. Had it been my first, I wouldn't have gone back, but I'm hoping they were just having an off day. I think I just found my favorite coffee and breakfast diner in Pensacola. This place is like stepping back in time. Real diner coffee that makes you stop talking and just savor the flavor, and real flat-top cooked breakfast that tastes like food used to taste before it became processed. I ordered the biscuit breakfast sandwich with turkey sausage and cheese scrambled eggs. It was so good I'm plotting how to get back tomorrow to try the fried chicken and waffles I saw on the menu. Do not skip out on this breakfast spot! You will not be disappointed. This is the kind of place I'd say remains busy all 8 hours they're open. We were able to get front row seating to the action, aka counter seats. Really gives you that diner feel. The staff was busy but provided great service. The chef, Mike, was interacting with us guests and serving up delicious food. For the kids, he'll even whip up Mickey Mouse pancakes. You can tell he really takes pride in his job. We arrived at about 6:30 am. They stated we could just seat ourselves so we chose a booth. I believe this restaurant opened in 1945. You could also tell this by swivel type chairs at the counter. Most tables were occupied within 15-20 minutes of our arrival. Whenever I go out to breakfast - it's nearly impossible for me to order something other than French toast because it's always been my go to breakfast and today was no exception. I ordered a full order as opposed to half an order. I also asked for sliced bananas & a chocolate milk. My friend ordered the Sausage & Gravy on biscuits with eggs over easy and coffee. He loved the coffee and even though they offer free refills of coffee - they serve it in smallish type coffee cup, it was almost comical. However, he did state it was mostly gravy with little bits of sausage. I adored my french toast. As a matter of fact - it was the best french toast that I've ever had. What made it unique for me was that it had a very light "crunch" to it. When complimenting the waitress she stated that they actually sort of deep fry it but just barely. I needed an early breakfast before conducting training and they opened at 6am so that got me checking out their reviews. I was in the mood for a traditional breakfast and this classic staple of Pensacola delivered and then some! Everything is cooked on the griddle right in front of you. They use the milkshake blender to make the eggs fluffy and they have everything prepped and ready to go the griddle. Eggs, sausage and hashbrowns and biscuits with gravy. Outstanding. I watch three different people take their turn cooking while the line cook ate his breakfast and each meal looked as delicious as the next. They have serving a great breakfast down to a science. I visit Pensacola often and everytime I would pass by the Coffee Cup, it would be extremely packed! Plus the locals have always recommended this place first for breakfast. This trip, I decided to finally visit. Luckily we were first line for a table. John, the manager, was extremely nice and provided EXCELLENT customer service. Every restaurant needs a John! On this particular day, two servers and two cooks called out, yet the rest of the staff continued to serve with smiles; despite taking on more responsibility. Has been updated somewhat since then but still has the old coffee shop feel I think ! But we had the make your own omelet and mine was bacon sausage onions green peppers tomatoes and cheddar cheese and hash browns and toast my friend had mushroom and cheese omelet with hash browns and biscuit. Both where very good and the portion size was great Coffee was good too. The service was great to. It pains me to write this review. I've eaten at the Coffee Cup since the 80s. We're not regulars - but I've had almost everything on the menu over the years and always recommend it to visitors for a great diner experience. We probably eat here once a month. This trip was an exception - but enough to make me think twice before ever returning. Service is always good. If it's really hectic (which it often is on the weekend) things might fall through the cracks but not this time. Service was fine although super slow. Got there around 10:45 AM on Tuesday. Planned on breakfast, but that hamburger steak with rice and gravy was calling my name. $14.99. It took about 30 minutes - but I was okay with it. It finally got to the table and the rice and gravy was cold, the rice was still crunchy, and there was a skin on top of the gravy like it was plated yesterday. The hamburger steak was dry as a bone - as in enough to choke someone. It was warm in the middle - and that was the highlight. Husbands had Eggs Benedict with hash browns - well done. Nothing on his plate was warm (much less hot) and the Hollandaise also had a skin that had formed on top. There was nothing well done as far as the hash browns. They were pale and cold. This was 45 dollar meal, at a cheap diner, and it was all cold and flavorless. read more

The food was ok but the waitress forgot my toast and don't think she would ever brought to me after I waited 15 minutes for it. I had cold eggs by the time I did eat. The place is unbelievably filthy at it entrance and on the floor. Some walls and floor that looked like they had not been cleaned in 10 years. You can see the dust hanging off the vegans above. If they turned them off, who knows what they would look like. All that dust flying around above you is not a good feeling. Maintenance and cleaning is not part of or on managements list for sure. read more

My first visit to the Coffee Cup was prolly some 68 or so years ago for the first of many lunches on Saturdays with my grandparents. Loved it. And, of course, over the years I've visited from time to time on our frequent visits to our home town. I joined a lifelong Pensacola friend for breakfast Saturday and am happy to report that the Coffee Cup is solid and worthy of the crowds that still gather here for breakfast and lunch. I knew the ownership had changed over the years. It is now apparently owned by the Jaco's group. My friend and I sat at the counter which pleased me to start with. There are precious few counters like this still serving. But I had no idea I was in for a show as well. Watching the cat cooking breakfast on the flattop is worth the price of admission. The guy is a hoot and he's a helluva flattop short order cook to boot. I dunno what the playlist streaming through the bud in one ear is, but he rocks the grill routine to the tunes juking and jiving with spatulas and spoons twirling and flying as he flips hash browns and eggs. It's a sight to behold. LOL. I ordered one egg soft scrambled (few restaurant cooks do it right - he did) , grits, a piece of toast and the smoked country hot link sausage which is split and grilled on the flattop under a grill press. I could tell just from looking at the grits that the kitchen here shows the noble but often horribly prepared (even in much of the South) dish some love in it's preparation. Still I added a lot more butter, salt and pepper. When mixed together on my plate with the scrambled egg it was grits and egg nirvana. So damn good. And get this. Though It was 11:30 and I had already had four cups of coffee beginning at 6:30 that morning and had transitioned earlier to a glass of chardonnay before heading to this late breakfast I had to try the coffee to see if it was still as bad as in my estimation the Coffee Cup's coffee has always been. It was good! No really. It was good. And that's not just the chardonnay talking. Somebody at the Coffee Cup has apparently figured out how to make a decent cup of joe. Crazy. I know. I'm gonna take my wife there before we head back to Texas as she does not believe me. LOL. It's legit, people. read more

I love the coffee cup. But wow. Ordered a burger got a hockey puck. I don't like to send things back never know what goes on when you do that. Planned on paying for it things happen. Waitress assisted to take it off. I had no attitude just let them know it was not up to what they usually serve. Owner just had a stark attitude and said we can't fix it if you don't tell us turned his back and left. Well just told you said I would pay for it and that they were usually good. But now I have an attitude. You knew about it when the burnt hamburger was put on the plate. The server knew it when she dropped it off. It was that bad. So you're worried about not being told about the restaurant. Here is a few more things. Don't have the server get cheese bare handed out of the refractor and give to the cook up front.
