My sister in law booked this place and I was like WTH. However, I ended up actually liking the lodge. It's like being at grandma's as far as decoration. If you're into new furniture and finishing this place is not for you. The owner is very nice. She is also making improvements. I will post pictures. We paid for 3 rooms for the price of 1 at a higher in Hotel. We only needed the place to sleep for 2 days. It wasn't noisy with parties or talking even with the road right out front you didn't have a lot of traffic noise. We actually sat outside in the parking lot chatting our last night. It has everything you need fridge, microwave, electric fireplace on the wall and a ceiling fan. Clean shower and toilet. The shower is very tall so no problem for a tall man or woman. I read a review from a year or so ago talking about the microwave being in the bathroom. That is where it's stored on shelf/counter. I moved it to the table inside the room it's a dorm size microwave. I will post picture. You will see the character and some old but clean quilts and my room had old curtains that didn't match the bed compared to my sister in laws. One of my sisters said she liked my curtains were as I like the ones she had. LOL I will do my room first 2 queen bed. Our second room with blue and the 3rd room.

This place is completely run down. The building is incredibly sketch and I wouldn't care to write a negative review however here's our story and you see why I'm doing this. See the pictures too. 1. I took my family to Yosemite and figured that we stay somewhere near by for $100 some bucks (that's what we usually pay for Comfort Inn or Oakhurst Lodge or Yosemite South gate hotel; at the nearby town of Oakhurst). Conclusion: I would pay not to stay at Blackhawk Lodge. 2. As we arrived around 6 pm (on time) a half naked men and a naked woman fall out from one of the room and started just walking around the men's truck enjoying what looked like a cigarette/joint after a quick shack up. At this point I called Priceline dot com to cancel the reservation since I wasn't going to stay in a brothel with my young child and wife that night. 3. They wouldn't want to reimburse the reservation! Seriously! After making us drive 2 hours from National Park to this god forsaken place! 4. The curious staff? maybe owner? came out to see what the commotion was (and the naked couple from above went back into the room). The staff woman opened a door to another room - and let me tell you: it did not look enticing at all... mind you all of that for like $110! 5. Just look at the pictures i quickly snapped while we were driving away from there. Place is a joke!

She said this was NOT bedbug feces. Ok. Sure lady. Your place is beyond gross.

Can't give 0 stars! This place is DISGUSTING! Burnt outlets, missing lightbulbs, no toilet paper, carboard on the walls, a grocery store paper bag for a trashcan... oh and the bed had bedbug feces. The lady at the desk argued with me when I told her we weren't staying there because of the bedbug feces (I showed her a picture) but she refunded my card and we left. I took a pic of the bed, then my phone died. Now that my phone is charged and I took screenshots of my boyfriend's snapchat, here you go... I booked the reservation on Booking.com and the lady marked me down as a NO SHOW. I have the check in receipt and the refund receipt to show I DID IN FACT CHECK IN but the place was so DISGUSTING I refused to stay there and she refunded my card. I'm all for mom and pop businesses, but if you're going to argue with me about how clean your rooms are (Obviously they weren't clean!), we're gonna have some word exchanges. I told her I've worked in hotels before and I know what the beginning infestations of bedbugs look like. She argued with "NO! WE DON'T HAVE BEDBUGS! MAYBE THE PLACE YOU WORKED AT HAD THEM!" OK lady. Don't be mad because you got caught up. DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE. Hell, I was surprised that a tick didn't hitch a ride on my clothing!

One bar of soap for 2 people who have been at Yosemite all day!! My dad and I decided to drive up to Yosemite last minute to see the ragging rivers and waterfalls. Black Hawk Lodge was the only place available for less than $350 on a Sat. night. Tired and hot, we rolled into the lodge. Check in was nice, no aromas.. We got into Room 6 and we both looked at each other. It was hot, dark, and was the lowest end motel I'd ever stayed at. Grateful to have a place to stay, we immediately went to turn on the AC. You have to plug everything in- even the refrigerator! No shampoo, conditioner, body soap, lotion, tissues or anything, except one bar of soap (stuff for coffee was in there though)! We washed our hands w it and stupidly, I forgot my body wash and used the bar in the shower too! The bar is now back at the bathroom sink- hope it lasts! My reasons for a 2 since the above makes a 2 seem ridiculous: Easy access- right of 41 Cheaper place to stay- grateful for that Pet friendly Easy parking Shower was old, but worked well Bed, better than expected Won't stay again for $95, but may consider for $39.99 and if I'm not itchy tomorrow!

The town of Oakhurst is my favorite as it offers great amenities that are the closest to the best entrance to Yosemite in my opinion. Lets start with the food. This is one of the best culinary experiences I have had and it is consistently good. The three course or five course dining service is stellar. These chefs are some of the best in the world and Ive been all over the world. The leadership of Erica is not to be surpassed. She has an incredible calm spirit with a smiling happy crew that provides top notch service with warmth and class. The bartender Jordan is a delight with his great smile and kind eyes. The food experience made me feel like I was being nourished from the inside out not just with nutrition but with love and flavor that was new and revitalizing. This was my first stay at the Chateau Sureau. Oh my heart. I feel that I was healed and restored from a level of stress I dont think I realized I was carrying from our busy crazy noisy world at home. The property is exquisite with old world charm and the perfect patina of age that makes you feel you are in the old country of Paris or Austria or England. The landscape is stunning and it was raining so the fireplaces were roaring and the pines were glistening with silver drops backlit by an incredible sunset. The breakfast service is top notch and the staff is incredibly attentive. You know its good when you know each others names. Thanks to Lorenzo, Sienna, Logan, Jissel and Lori for incredible Chalet guest service. Then, there is the spa. I just had to go since I was feeling like my life was coming back to my ownership again. The Spa is gorgeous. The spa. director Way has been on this property for 20 years. I had the best facial and conversation with her. What a treasure she is. Kim was my massage therapist and she is one of the best I have ever had and my son at home is a therapist as well so I feel qualified to say so. I got to spend my time in the couples massage room which has stunning views, a balcony that looks out from the hot bubbling soaking tub that you get to use after your massage. I had a choice of oils to add and we went with elderberry which is incredible for soft skin. Its absolutely wonderful. The small scale in size lent itself to making connections with other guests that were fantastic and I made friends here while staying that will last! I will be back everytime I am in town. I was here on a rainy weeks end and it added to the magic. I can imagine what it is like in spring when the gorgeous grounds are covered in flowers blooming. I cant wait to see it again then or even next month for the holidays! Some may say there is some aging to the rooms but I say its perfect and if you have traveled to the Old Country in Europe this is part of the actual beauty and experience. Relish it!!

I also loved that the air conditioning was already on when we arrived--it made the room feel welcoming and comfortable right away. If you're staying here, I definitely recommend checking out Oakhurst Grill & Whiskey Lounge 41. The steak was delicious! Pandori Express, the Indian restaurant nearby, was also excellent. The continental breakfast was another highlight. The ladies taking care of the breakfast area were absolutely amazing and truly went above and beyond. They worked hard to keep everything clean, organized, and stocked, and they were so attentive to the guests. They really deserve to be recognized for their excellent service. The gentleman who checked us in that morning was also very helpful and provided great customer and suggestions. I would definitely give him five stars as well. I do have a couple of constructive observations that I hope management will take in the spirit intended. In the afternoon, there was a young lady with long hair at the front desk. I didn't get her name, but unfortunately, her customer service came across as though she didn't really want to be there. When you speak with her, she answers the question, but there isn't much eye contact or engagement. There was also no greeting or goodbye. At one point during breakfast, I mentioned to her that the coffee was out. She acknowledged it, but when we were leaving, I checked the same pot and the coffee still had not been refilled. I think some additional customer-service training could be helpful. A simple hello, eye contact, a friendly attitude, and a goodbye can make a big difference in a guest's experience. One other small observation was the bottom of the shower. It had a somewhat dirty appearance. I understand this may be partly due to the type of material or finish used, and I'm not necessarily saying it wasn't cleaned. However, the material seems to hold onto a look that makes the shower floor appear dirty even when it may be clean. It would be great if the hotel could find a better cleaning solution or consider a different finish/material that would eliminate that appearance. Overall, though, I had a good experience. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and accommodating, and I would definitely come back. The breakfast staff and morning front-desk gentleman deserve special recognition for making our stay even better. I'm sharing the positives and the constructive feedback because I think this is a hotel with a lot going for it, and a few small improvements could make the guest experience even better. I would definitely recommend staying here! And the changes this would be a Five Star!

The Dining Hall is iconic and renovated, it's grand! Grand piano and piano player in both the Dining Hall and Lounge. Daily 4pm-5pm Tea and Cookie service (chocolate, oatmeal raisin, and one other I don't remember), perfect view to Half Dome, Breakfast Buffet ($32/person) and a separate Sunday buffet (with prime rib and Dungeness crab for $65/person). I thought the food was decent and some dishes were even very good. We also tried dinner at $95/person for a 5 course meal, and it was very good. The key is to get a good server at your table (ask the hostess to put you with the best one??). For example, while my family was having an excellent time, the table next to us for dinner had a horrible server, and the family stormed out of there without finishing their dinner since they waited 45 minutes and only had the first course brought out. However, our server Nancy was excellent. That's probably why there's so many bad reviews on Yelp, it really depends on the service you get and we got lucky with Nancy. Cons: The state of the rooms... very dated from the 60's? We stayed 3 nights at a premium room, and the good is that the AC worked great, and was spacious, but all the amenities were old. Shower pressure was slow , the sink basin was slow draining, the security box in the closet needed new batteries, our interior doors were hard to open/close (due to all the layers of paint over the years!). Would I return again? Yes... but will probably just find the lowest priced rooms since there's nothing special about their premium rooms and you'll feel ripped off. And if staying multiple nights, try Curry Village Pizza and the Mountain Room to switch things up since eating at the Ahwahnee is expensive. Tip: We got a 2 day advance notice that their elevators were down during our stay which was very annoying but then again, we're in Yosemite hiking and possibly climbing half dome and exercising, so I suppose it wasn't such a big deal climbing a few stairs, lol. Kindly ask for the manager at front desk before you check out and inquire if they can give you an adjustment to your bill for the inconvenience. Hope this review helps!
