We were looking for somewhere that could teach a young child, and after chatting with several places, we decided to give Bennett farms a try. I know nothing about riding, and my decision was based simply on the fact that Nancy from Bennett Farms understood a lot of my concerns about my young daughter riding (short lessons, Samler pony, what she would be learning, etc). The people here are ridiculously friendly, and they've been so kind and welcoming to my daughter, it's amazing. Eloise, her teacher, is fantastic - patient, calm, and confident - and my daughter has been improving steadily since she started here. The other people we've met at Bennett, from the people taking care of the horses to the other owners, have been really great. It feels like a community when we're here and I highly recommend them if you're looking for lessons for yourself or your kid.

BUT Once you get to the stop sign at the corner of beechwood and it tells you to turn on beechwood or keep straight to stay on beechwood (depending which direction you coming from) no matter what your gut tells you just keep riding straight to the top. It's a far drive up and you will start to think you not going to the right way but you are. The gate has sunset ranch on it so you will know. Push the button to be let in the gate, park and you will have a steep hill to walk up to get to the top. If you get lost just call so they know but you won't miss your trip they are used to people getting lost. My whole crew was lost and we still completed the hour trip in the time frame given. My guide was William and he was great. He gave clear instructions and was very patient when we didn't catch on and was struggling to control our horses. The trail was calming and scary being as though you have to stay close to the edge of the cliff. The horses know what they are doing. I had a horse named tater tot and he was very calm and chill and once he got comfortable with me he was a great listener. When you return you will be assisted on getting down but if you don't have strong knees or good balance be very careful because the ground is very far down from the horse and you could really injure yourself. I didn't get injured but someone else easily could. If you forget to bring cash like I did no worries they have QR codes that you can and use for Venmo, Cash App, pay pal which I loved!

There is only 1 arena (that is also used as a turn out) for the whole barn. That can be a problem if your horse needs to just be turned out to run and buck, you have to wait for the arena to clear out - which can sometimes not happen. When it rains, they seal/close the arena, and if it poured, the arena can be closed for days. The inside stalls get HOT during summer - upwards of 110 degrees in the barn aisle. They do allow you to mount a fan (for a monthly charge) that helps a LOT. My horse's neighbors without fans would be soaked in sweat, and my horse would be dry. I have always wanted to ride a horse since I was a little kid. Something about horses and myself go hand in hand. They are powerful animals and I like power to a certain extent. Since my son knew how much I have been wanting to ride a horse, he surprised me and got 2 tickets to go to horseback riding. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the tickets. With that being said, him and I went there beginning of this year. You get to choose the duration of the time, what type of horse you want to rent, and once you get on it you also choose the speed how and what you like. As beginners, we went for slow-to medium. It was perfect for an entire hour. Tickets for both adults and kids are $50, per person. Trust me, it's so worth it!! The staff were very welcoming, accommodating, understanding, asked us if we had any previous injuries, cuts, wounds, heart condition before you sign the consent form and get on top of that poor animal that had to take us around and round. We chose to go and see different scenic sites, and it also takes you around Griffith park area. It has many different trails and we asked for ALL or nothing. Who knows when will I ever experience this wonderful pleasure again? We had a great time, it goes straight with a whole hour w/out making any stops. Get some water with you. The only downside is that they don't except any other method of payments except cash. That's ok, it didn't bother us. There is a guide that goes with you to make sure you are safe and so are the horses!! Has parking, restrooms and I am glad that we went on this journey. I wouldn't recommend this business at all. From the beginning, we weren't given much instruction…read morenor were we given helmets (not even the option for helmets). The man who helped us at the front came to tell us simple instructions like left, right, and stop. I was with two other friends and the other group was a mother and her three children. That's seven people in total and we had only ONE guide who stayed in the back. There should've been at least two guides. As we crossed a bridge that only allowed one horse to fit, my friend's horse ran down the small hill, which is normal. However, since the guide was in the back and my friend was in the front, she was unaware there would be more movement from the horse and was unable to tame the horse. Her horse went running down and she fell off onto the hard floor. Everyone stopped and the guide kept telling her to get up slowly when she kept saying she couldn't because it hurt too much. He was constantly holding out his hand to get her up without actively helping her or checking on her. For that many people, there should have been more than one guide. Not only that, he should have been IN FRONT of the group, crossing the bridge first, to help us through the dip. This was extremely irresponsible on their end and all we got was a sorry (from a woman who we didn't even see at the ranch!) and a refund. We took my friend to the ER where she's getting x-rays and getting checked for a concussion. There shouldn't be any excuse just because we signed a waiver and we should have been offered helmets.
