We did not dine in, but to go food was ready when we arrived. However, I do recommend serving your potato salad in a side dish on to go orders as the potato salad was hot. They relocate to Granby. They've been promoting the grand opening on social media so my friends I decided to go. We called the day before asking to make a reservation. But we were told we didn't need one for a party of 4 We get there, mind you they haven't change the signage so you don't even know it's there, and were told they were no longer seating people because they were understaffed and we didn't have a reservation. It was only 7 pm. Then a few minute later the sever, came back was said, oh we can seat you if the rest of your party is here . The vibe wasn't even right anymore, so we didn't even want to eat there and we left. Come to find out, they didn't even have their liquor license yet. I really wish I could rate this higher. And I really dislike when I go to an establishment and I had high expectations. So we came here with a big party for my aunt and uncles anniversary dinner. We had a whole section. And they only had one person waiting on us for the first hour it seemed. We would ask for drinks and it would take them forever to come back. I got a Togo order and my daughter ate at the restaurant. She said the service was good and everything went smoothly. We ordered cheese steaks, macaroni, corn bread, and fries. The cheese steak were decent, it was seasoned, but slightly salty. But I do appreciate the fact that it had flavor. The fries were good. My daughter thought the cornbread was ok also. My daughter and I visited Blackeyed Peas near Lynnhaven Mall on a Saturday around 2 PM. The restaurant was practically empty, so we were seated right away. It seems like they had just mopped or something because the floors seemed to be wet but very sticky lol! We started with frozen margaritas, which honestly ended up being the highlight of the entire meal! They were perfectly blended and very tasty. We were given complimentary cornbread, but it was way too sweet for my taste. Almost tasted like cake lol! For our entrée, we both ordered the Catfish dinner with two sides. I chose Yams and Macaroni & Cheese, and added a side of Cabbage. The food arrived fairly quickly. The fish was seasoned okay and was fried very well, but parts were slightly undercooked. The Mac & Cheese had good flavor, but the noodles were overly soft and mushy. Unfortunately, the Yams were the worst I've ever had. They were very stringy with an odd flavor. We waited over 50 minutes to be seated ( for 2). We sat for 15 minutes, before we asked for a waitress. We were told by the hostess the waitress walked out. We finally ordered after sitting for 18 minutes. The hostess told us the soda fountain was broken, no lemons for our ice tea. The flounder was listed on the menu, but you could not order it, because it was not listed on the portable handheld machine. I recommend hiring a qualified manager to run the day to day operation of the business and extra staff. We were told the owner is in the kitchen. My sister and I dined her for lunch and truly enjoyed ourselves. There wasn't a wait although it had steady people there, coming and going. For a Saturday it was real laid back and the atmosphere super welcoming, groups of different ages, ethnicities you name it. With covered outdoor seating as well. The weather was perfect. Sis and I dined inside. While waiting for our orders we were given complimentary cornbread...yummy by the way. A gentleman later whom we learned was the DJ invited us to play musical Bingo. It was a lot of fun, my sis and ai each won a game. The food was the star of the show though. BlackEyed Peas is a soul food restaurant located outside of Lynnhaven Mall by the AMC theater. I went for an Open Mic night they were hosting. The service was extremely slow. This is why they lost a star. I had to ask front desk after 20 minutes for help. Once the server got to us, everything was fine. He rarely checked in on us, my guess because we were there for open mic. I ordered a strawberry lemon drop drink and kids chicken tenders and fries (I wasn't too hungry). I tried this restaurant for the first time. The food was good. The whiting and candied yams were my favorite. The whiting was fried hard, which I prefer, and the yams were just delicious!! The cornbread is huge and they even have butter melted on top - yum!! The brussel sprouts had a little char, but tasted boiled. I wouldn't get them again. This food is horrible. When I read the sign that says no refund on food because you do not like the taste I knew I was in trouble. The jerk chicken looked liked it was served in a puddle of dark muddy water, the yams tasted like baby food with pumpkin spice, I ordered tenders and got two tenders and a chicken wing mixed in, the rice and gravy had no seasoning. I could go on and on but you get the point. I will say the fried shrimp were good, though. Oh and she put our food on a dirty table and proceeded to serve us. This restaurant has potential but needs better either management or better training for the wait staff. The food: Meatloaf lacked flavor needed salt. Mac and cheese had no soul. Collards had no taste. They never brought our fried okra. Their cabbage was SALTY! I used the cabbage to eat the bland meatloaf to even it out. Please tell your waitstaff with long acrylic nails it's not very hygienic in the restaurant business. Also a HUGE party showed up as we were leaving and they sat there for twenty minutes waiting for their food. How do I know? Because it took them 20 minutes to figure out our check. I don't even have photos because I was mad. Really disappointed because I saw the restaurant through Yummo Bucko. I really wanted this place to be great. I love locally owned restaurants. The corn bread was worth the trip. I did fill up on it the first time I went. We got all appetizers the first time. They were good and came out quickly. The cocktails were well made, and even the owner came out to talk to us. Among other good things, the staff was kid, prompt, and attentive. The place was clean. When we asked for the music to be turned down, it was. The second time I recommended it to my co-workers. Some food was fine. But the mac and cheese was a brick. The vegies were hot and flavorful. The steak was ordered med-rare but came out gray, no char, well done. All of the entrées were over cooked. The dinner wear is plastic fork and spoon wrapped in a plastic pouch with a napkin and salt and pepper packs included. The steak did come with a real knife, but still a plastic fork. I was quite embarrassed I had placed my recommendation to this. If they are still open in six months or so, I'll try it again. I really want to see privately owned places thrive. I had high hopes for this place but the customer service and overall experience ruined it. It took me over 20 mins to get water. It took 40 mins to get alcohol on a Saturday at lunch time. The limes served with our drinks were old and brown, and the drinks tasted like straight drink mix. We waited and hour and fifteen minutes without getting our meals before we decided to leave. Our waitress did her best but the whole staff was completely disorganized and unprepared. The "manager" told the table next to us that the place was fully staffed and there was nothing he could do, and walked out without allowing them to respond. There was plenty of staff and we were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress Gabby was friendly and attentive. While waiting for our food, several staff members greeted us, even the bust boy. We ordered the fried shrimp and fries appetizer, and it wasn't bad. The shrimp had a seasoned light crust which we both enjoyed. The crinkle fries could stand a bit of seasoning. The chicken for the chicken sandwich wasn't seasoned just the batter. Seasoning the chicken is the most important part for a flavor taste . I'll give it a 7/10. Mother didn't like the catfish at all.
