I really wish I could rate this higher. And I really dislike when I go to an establishment and I had high expectations. So we came here with a big party for my aunt and uncles anniversary dinner. We had a whole section. And they only had one person waiting on us for the first hour it seemed. We would ask for drinks and it would take them forever to come back. Our waiter had no personality no customer service just a blank. _ss face staring at us as if we were annoying him. I ordered the catfish and Black Eyed Peas, macaroni and cheese and collards. I'm not gonna lie. The fish was amazing The collard greens were seasoned, but not too much salt in it. The Black Eyed Peas were really good. I was just very disappointed. Also, please make sure you check your receipts. We had three people at our table and we asked to split the bell when they were splitting the bill. It was not equally out to our total. The math was not mathing. I warned my other family members and they did the same exact thing to them too. I live out of state and I can promise you I will never go there again! Terrible terrible terrible service! Please teach customer service! read more

My daughter and I visited Blackeyed Peas near Lynnhaven Mall on a Saturday around 2 PM. The restaurant was practically empty, so we were seated right away. It seems like they had just mopped or something because the floors seemed to be wet but very sticky lol! We started with frozen margaritas, which honestly ended up being the highlight of the entire meal! They were perfectly blended and very tasty. We were given complimentary cornbread, but it was way too sweet for my taste. Almost tasted like cake lol! For our entrée, we both ordered the Catfish dinner with two sides. I chose Yams and Macaroni & Cheese, and added a side of Cabbage. The food arrived fairly quickly. The fish was seasoned okay and was fried very well, but parts were slightly undercooked. The Mac & Cheese had good flavor, but the noodles were overly soft and mushy. Unfortunately, the Yams were the worst I've ever had. They were very stringy with an odd flavor. I couldn't even eat them. The Cabbage, however, was surprisingly decent. Overall, I left disappointed in the food but impressed with the drinks. While I probably won't be back to dine in, I'd definitely stop by for another frozen margarita. read more

I got a Togo order and my daughter ate at the restaurant. She said the service was good and everything went smoothly. We ordered cheese steaks, macaroni, corn bread, and fries. The cheese steak were decent, it was seasoned, but slightly salty. But I do appreciate the fact that it had flavor. The fries were good. My daughter thought the cornbread was ok also. The 1st Mac and cheese my daughter received didn't look appealing, so the waiter brought her another one because it looked dry and a little old, but the second one looked good and it was cheesy. All in all the meal was decent. I'd try other things off the menu. Check them out. read more

They relocate to Granby. They've been promoting the grand opening on social media so my friends I decided to go. We called the day before asking to make a reservation. But we were told we didn't need one for a party of 4 We get there, mind you they haven't change the signage so you don't even know it's there, and were told they were no longer seating people because they were understaffed and we didn't have a reservation. It was only 7 pm. Then a few minute later the sever, came back was said, oh we can seat you if the rest of your party is here . The vibe wasn't even right anymore, so we didn't even want to eat there and we left. Come to find out, they didn't even have their liquor license yet. Why promote being open and you don't even have your restaurant together yet. All in all, we won't be returning. read more

This is our third time trying Black Eyed Peas and each time has been a beautiful experience. The pork chops are fried and seasoned to a perfect perfection. We did not dine in, but to go food was ready when we arrived. However, I do recommend serving your potato salad in a side dish on to go orders as the potato salad was hot. Seems the pork chops heated them up inside of the to go dish. We also got the strawberry cake. The slices are huge, moist and delicious. We will definitely be returning. We also definitely recommend Black Eyed Pea read more

My sister and I dined her for lunch and truly enjoyed ourselves. There wasn't a wait although it had steady people there, coming and going. For a Saturday it was real laid back and the atmosphere super welcoming, groups of different ages, ethnicities you name it. With covered outdoor seating as well. The weather was perfect. Sis and I dined inside. While waiting for our orders we were given complimentary cornbread...yummy by the way. A gentleman later whom we learned was the DJ invited us to play musical Bingo. It was a lot of fun, my sis and ai each won a game. The food was the star of the show though. Golden fried fish cooked to perfection, collard greens were well seasoned and didn't require anything else, except maybe some hot sauce but hey that's my personal preference. Sister stated her curry chicken was rather tasty as well. Looked to be a super clean establishment also. Didn't take a trip to the restroom while visiting but we were there well over an hour enjoying our food and the music. I will return again and if you looking for some food southern cuisine this is the place. Right outside Lynnhaven mall tucked between the movie theater and the food court outside. BlackEyed Peas is a soul food restaurant located outside of Lynnhaven Mall by the AMC theater. I went for an Open Mic night they were hosting. The service was extremely slow. This is why they lost a star. I had to ask front desk after 20 minutes for help. Once the server got to us, everything was fine. He rarely checked in on us, my guess because we were there for open mic. I ordered a strawberry lemon drop drink and kids chicken tenders and fries (I wasn't too hungry). The kids chicken tenders were large and 3 was too many; even for my 29 year old self. I wanted to try the Lea h cobbler but will have to test it out at a later date. read more

I tried this restaurant for the first time. The food was good. The whiting and candied yams were my favorite. The whiting was fried hard, which I prefer, and the yams were just delicious!! The cornbread is huge and they even have butter melted on top - yum!! The brussel sprouts had a little char, but tasted boiled. I wouldn't get them again. It's a good-sized restaurant with booths and table seating in 4 different areas. They also have a full bar. The service was okay. You had to ask a couple of times before you got some items. But I wouldn't hold that against the restaurant. I'd still go back just so I could try the dessert. read more

Wow!!! The collards were seasoned well, the mac n cheese just the right amount of flavor, catfish fried right! YUM! The pork chops fried well, but I wish they was an option for gravy (brown) because the middle gets a little dry, but not a deterrent for great food! The cost is reasonable. Best kept secret! read more

First time dining at this establishment and it was worth the try. The food was good. Had good seasoning and came out piping hot. The turkey wings could've had more seasoning but overall it was good and tender. The whiting and cornbread were delicious. The service was great. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. The BEST Soul Food on the East Coast! I stopped by Sunday and got dinner here. The chicken wings were cooked to perfection and the collard greens were probably the best I've ever had! The employees are warm, courteous and thoughtful. Owner Cynthia takes the time to greet customers and make sure that everyone is very happy. My server KayKay was also so pleasant and helpful. Beautiful decor and excellent ambiance here. Great location at the Lynnhaven Mall, right across from the AMC Theaters entrance. I can't wait to dine here again. read more

Easily a 4 to 5 star rating for the food, but the service really needs to see some improvement. Excellent location. Perfect date night option after or before a movie, but lacks speed and communication between the kitchen, wait staff, and customers. Best cornbread in the area. Hands down. If you can just skip the sit-down and order ahead for pick up, that's probably a better choice. read more

We waited over 50 minutes to be seated ( for 2). We sat for 15 minutes, before we asked for a waitress. We were told by the hostess the waitress walked out. We finally ordered after sitting for 18 minutes. The hostess told us the soda fountain was broken, no lemons for our ice tea. The flounder was listed on the menu, but you could not order it, because it was not listed on the portable handheld machine. I recommend hiring a qualified manager to run the day to day operation of the business and extra staff. We were told the owner is in the kitchen. She never came out of the kitchen to greet her customers. I reluctantly will give them one more opportunity in the near future to rectify some of these issues. read more

This was on Saturday night. I understand it is a new restaurant BUT it took the waitress with the blue/green hair 20 minutes to come and get our drink order. It wasn't that busy in the restaurant. Then we waited another 30 minutes for her to take our order. Then we waited two hours for our food which the waitress then blamed everything on the kitchen staff which is unprofessional of her to do. Oh and she put our food on a dirty table and proceeded to serve us. This restaurant has potential but needs better either management or better training for the wait staff. The food: Meatloaf lacked flavor needed salt. Mac and cheese had no soul. Collards had no taste. They never brought our fried okra. Their cabbage was SALTY! I used the cabbage to eat the bland meatloaf to even it out. Please tell your waitstaff with long acrylic nails it's not very hygienic in the restaurant business. Also a HUGE party showed up as we were leaving and they sat there for twenty minutes waiting for their food. How do I know? Because it took them 20 minutes to figure out our check. I don't even have photos because I was mad. Really disappointed because I saw the restaurant through Yummo Bucko. I will come by again in a few months (maybe) to see if you guys get your groove and perhaps up my review star. read more

The food was really good. I had the oxtails, collard greens and yams. The greens were delicious and I didn't need hot sauce, which is a classic sign of amazing greens. This review is based on a pick up order. Tried to call to place an order but nobody picked up, so we had to go inside and order. They had people that been there ahead of us waiting on their food and had waited over an hour and received only drinks. We had to wait long as well. The food was decent we got the mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, collard greens, bread pudding, and pork chops. Wasn't too impressed with the Mac and cheese, but the rest was ok. Hopefully they get more staff to help with the demands. read more

Black Eye Peas Restaurant is everything soul food should be--delicious, soulful, and full of love! We arrived during a packed charity event with line dancing and music filling the room. Doug noticed us right away, guided us past the crowd to our table, and then continued as our server for the evening. He didn't just bring food--he brought hospitality and care that made us feel at home. The food? Outstanding. Cornbread that melts in your mouth, wings fried to perfection, collards and yams that tasted like they came from grandma's kitchen, and sides like mac & cheese and carrot soufflé that Monica is still talking about. Portions were HUGE--we left with plenty for tomorrow's lunch. Between the lively atmosphere, great music, incredible food, and exceptional service from Doug, this was an unforgettable experience. We even sought out the owner just to share our appreciation. Five stars all the way! Chris and Monica. read more

This food is horrible. When I read the sign that says no refund on food because you do not like the taste I knew I was in trouble. The jerk chicken looked liked it was served in a puddle of dark muddy water, the yams tasted like baby food with pumpkin spice, I ordered tenders and got two tenders and a chicken wing mixed in, the rice and gravy had no seasoning. I could go on and on but you get the point. I will say the fried shrimp were good, though. Not to mention that the restaurant was not well kept, we had to ask the server to clean the floor where we were seated so we didn't have to look at food on the floor while eating!! The menus were sticky. Do yourself a favor don't eat here! read more

We arrived at the restaurant when they opened at 11am and we didn't get our food until 11:55 am. We had to wait for the owner to get there. The cornbread was the part of the meal. The chicken was flavorless!! The pulled pork bbq did not look appealing AT ALL!! I really wanted to like this place...I DEFINITELY WILL NOT COME BACK HERE!! This was a waste of money and time!! AWFUL EXPERIENCE!! Our server told us that he would see if the owner would come out and talk to us...she never came out to talk to us. SMH I would have given this place a -100 if I could. We ordered the chicken sandwich, the pulled pork bbq sandwich, and the chicken club sandwich. read more

Portions!!! did I say huge portions yes amazing portion size. The folks inside helping you explain the specials of the day and the deserts. The desert portions are huge, wait I talked about portions, but geesh that slice of red velvet cake was amazing. I ordered the catfish, collards, and mac. Most if you see any of my reviews are at soul food spots all over the place and I start with these staple items. Yep great seasoned well a lot of places over salt things, but this place did it right. Okay, so I had never heard of this spot but accepted a birthday party invitation featuring karaoke. My friend had me at "karaoke"! Anyway, this is a SOULFOOD restaurant outside of Lynnhaven Mall, where UNO's Pizza was located. Who knew?! I ordered pork chop with mac n cheese and collard greens. The mac n cheese could have used a little more salt, but you know what? No it didn't. The pork chop was fried to perfection and the greens were yummy. Oh, and the DRANKS! I had TWO Strawberry Lemon Drop. The drinks were not sweet at all so if that's what you're into then it's not for you. Oh, the drinks were prepared with Tequila instead of vodka. I really wanted this place to be great. I love locally owned restaurants. The corn bread was worth the trip. I did fill up on it the first time I went. We got all appetizers the first time. They were good and came out quickly. The cocktails were well made, and even the owner came out to talk to us. Among other good things, the staff was kid, prompt, and attentive. The place was clean. When we asked for the music to be turned down, it was. The second time I recommended it to my co-workers. Some food was fine. But the mac and cheese was a brick. The vegies were hot and flavorful. The steak was ordered med-rare but came out gray, no char, well done. All of the entrées were over cooked. The dinner wear is plastic fork and spoon wrapped in a plastic pouch with a napkin and salt and pepper packs included. The steak did come with a real knife, but still a plastic fork. I was quite embarrassed I had placed my recommendation to this. If they are still open in six months or so, I'll try it again. I really want to see privately owned places thrive. But if they disappoint again, we might be done. read more

I had high hopes for this place but the customer service and overall experience ruined it. It took me over 20 mins to get water. It took 40 mins to get alcohol on a Saturday at lunch time. The limes served with our drinks were old and brown, and the drinks tasted like straight drink mix. We waited and hour and fifteen minutes without getting our meals before we decided to leave. Our waitress did her best but the whole staff was completely disorganized and unprepared. The "manager" told the table next to us that the place was fully staffed and there was nothing he could do, and walked out without allowing them to respond. I hope they turn it around because the fried pickles that we ordered as an appetizer were actually good. read more

Never made it to the food ! So my wife and I went in very specifically for their Sunday menu, but this was a train wreck from the beginning when we arrived at 11:55 (they open at 12) we waited outside til around 12:10 before someone came to the door and said "we are sorry we had a rough night last night so we require 20 more mins. Before we can open, if we open at all" my wife and I waited because we had been planning this lunch date for days. They opened we went inside, we where seated and they brought us the menus you see in the picture they were old dirty paper menus with food spilled on them. Still not deterred (though we should have been ) my wife called in advance to ask if they had a specific menu item and she was told yes .. only for the waitress to say no they do not have it at which point after all that already happened we left read more

My boyfriend and I decided to check out this place despite the negative reviews. We went on a Thursday evening and I guess the owner read the reviews. There was plenty of staff and we were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress Gabby was friendly and attentive. While waiting for our food, several staff members greeted us, even the bust boy. We ordered the fried shrimp and fries appetizer, and it wasn't bad. The shrimp had a seasoned light crust which we both enjoyed. The crinkle fries could stand a bit of seasoning. Babe ordered a drink, SEX ON THE BEACH...he enjoyed it. As for our meal, babe ordered smothered Turkey Chops, mashed potatoes, and Mac and cheese. I ordered fried whiting, cabbage and yams. We both thought everything was flavorful and yams weren't too sweet, but the food could have been hotter. We arrived at 6pm and left 7:15pm so the overall wait time was very reasonable. We enjoyed our meal/service, and will return. read more

Look came in sat at the bar and had to wait because he was weeded. He was a nice man and the vibe was cool I guess. We order food at 615pm and it's 732pm I go to the front with a black man with locs and ask for a manager. He says he's the manager and I told him I've been waiting for a hour he says that's it's a 30min wait the kitchen backed up. I'm like nobody said anything he says well you need to go cuss ur server out for not telling you. Then I'm like how long it's gonna take cuz I got something to do he like you not getting a refund. The bartender walks by and he's like I understand yall leaving like damn can you figure out first instead of bushing us off.
