It took me a while to post this because I really didn't want to write a shitty review about a new business but hopefully they can learn something from it.
My husband and I came to The Blackdoor Steakhouse for our 9 year anniversary and our first dinner date after our baby was born. We were really excited for a nice steakhouse to open close to home and had read all the raving reviews about the place. Unfortunately I've never been so disappointed in a "fine dining" experience in my life. We have eaten at many higher-end restaurants over the years and this has definitely been the worst. I understand they just opened recently, and maybe it was just our waiter on that day, but damn. It took 15 minutes to be greeted by our waiter who never engaged in a conversation other than "hi, what can I get you?" No recommendations, no "are you celebrating something" or "how are you today?" Just "what can I get you." I was excited to try a cocktail after seeing all of the reviews of the "amazing drinks." I got a lemon drop martini that was medicore at best and had absolutely no garnish on it. For the price you would think it would at least have a half-assed chopped lemon on it like you get with a glass of water. The waiter never cleared our empty appetizer plate, salad plate, or meal plate even after we got our check. The food was good so props to the chef. The steaks we ordered were tender but the waiter never asked us to check if they were cooked properly and never returned to ask us how our food was. The older couple next to us were there prior to us sitting down and got their food after us. They were dressed to the nines and seemed just as annoyed with the service as we were. The table of 6 across from us that came 30 minutes after us had their food before we even had our appetizer. Our waiter spent his entire time catering to one table to the right of us, and didn't give us or the elderly couple next to us any time of day. We asked for a box and received it 25 minutes later because again, he was spending all of his time chit-chatting with his 3rd table. And no, he didnt offer to box up our food like most "higher end" steak places would. And the box was styrofoam. Yikes. Yeah maybe I'm being a Karen at this point, but for a $300 meal that was supposed to be a special occasion, I really expected some better service. My husband always says "I can make a better steak at home," and my response is always "yeah but you're paying to have a good experience." What a disappointment. First time in 9 years that we didn't order dessert for our anniversary because we didn't want to wait. It was a Tuesday by the way (they were not busy). This place really needs to teach their waiters some basic customer service if they want to be successful in the long run. I've heard from local business owners that you get treated like crap here if you don't "know someone" and I didn't want to believe that was true, but we found out the hard way. I've had better customer service at Texas roadhouse. read more
