After passing this place many times, I finally decided to give it a shot. Don't come at me, but I'm not a huge coffee drinker, so I had to check the menu on my phone to make sure they had matcha before heading in & well, they did. I was gonna go to the drive through, but also didn't want to be that person holding up the line because she had no idea what to get. There was no one else in there as everyone was driving through. I was told, they'd be right there as they were taking & making drive through orders. I didn't wait too long before being helped. Ordered my iced matcha & it was ready real quick. I love Black Rock and frequent several different locations. This was my first time visiting this location. Service was very good, but a bit slow. My JACKHAMMER was delicious. The building is set back from the street, so it's easy to drive past and not see it. I was using GPS directions and still accidentally drove past it and had to circle back. My only complaint is that the location is difficult to get in/out of, due to traffic blocking the driveway entrance/exit. The turn lane for the freeway entrance is in front of the Black Rock driveway, so basically cars get blocked in, until someone is nice enough to stop to let them exit. read more

Best iced white mocha I have ever tasted! I wish there's one near my house. The espresso shot is just so rich and aromatic! Perfect amount of milk & ice. Every sip tasted so consistent. Good coffee and no complaints about service BUT they have a stink bug problem. Any time I go to sit in their while enjoying my coffee I am greeted by at least one disgusting stink bug without fail. I see nothing outstanding about this coffee it taste OK, I like cream in my coffee and they had to put it in for me because there is no condiments bar there, it took a while to get it just right. When I asked for a medium roast they assumed I wanted a bag of coffee beans why ? I asked a couple of questions about the coffee and they did not seem to know much at all. Why would I go here instead of someplace like Starbucks where I am free to put in my own cream sugar or whatever. read more

This store. I can't tell you how much I loathe this store. I'm a black rock fanatic freak. I won't drink anything but black rock. Ever since BR opened I've been a devoted regular at both mill plain stores, hazel dell and this one. When I say this one it's the least visited on purpose. Every single time I've gone here. A total of maybe 15 times. They've always made my drink like S. Too much flavor. Too much milk. Burnt shots. Yesterday I went here. And guess what? My quad shots were all burnt. $4 later I'm regretting giving this store another chance. And to really piss me off they wanted to charge me a $1 for every sticker. No. No. No. I've never paid for a BR sticker. The one I specifically want, the black circle sticker, is FREE at hazel dell but they're out. So now I boycott this store. Starbucks makes better shots and I hate Starbucks. Also: the entrance access to pull in is a joke. There's a median and only northbound traffic can turn into said driveway. Unless you know to turn by burger king you're screwed or unless you like flipping a uturn that works too. Bad location. And the idea jet box is worthless. It stops at 2pm and you've to order at the window. Annoys me. read more

Everyone is very sweet. However, the last 5 mornings I've come my Nitro cold brew has been filled with a half cup of foam. One time is was 3/4th full of foam. Next day, I kindly asked if they could tip the cup at an angle to prevent so much foam. The barista who took my order was very nice and thanked me for letting her know so they could fix it. My drink turned out to be slightly better but still like this. They have always made my nitro delicious, only complaint is the foam overload. I am not high maintenance with my coffee. When it tastes bad, I'll drink it anyways and not say a word to the barista about it. But now, I drive 10 mins farther to another location for my nitro. We went in a couple of days ago and ordered 2 large coffees (1 black, 1 latte), needless to say, unimpressive! The location is a pain in the ass to get in and out of. First off, after checking the receipt it was confirmed we ordered larges, but only received mediums. Not that big of a deal because I didn't care for my dark roast black coffee and dumped it after finishing around half of it. My girlfriend said her latte was boring and didn't finish hers either. I'd suggest Peet's coffee next door. Don't just take my word for it, look at the reviews compared to this place. MUCH BETTER in every way. The only reason I'm not giving 1 star is because of the baristas, very friendly! Will never return! read more

I come to this location everyday. Sometimes multiple times a day. I love the baristas SO much. HOWEVER, there is not a day that goes by that my car and cup holders aren't filled with coffee to some capacity. Today my coffee is currently dripping all over my seats, my other coffee, my cloth masks, and seemingly dripping simply from a sh*tty lid. I'm not even sure how it's leaking anymore considering the first inch of my cup is now void of coffee because it has dripped everywhere. Everytime I get coffee from here, it tastes burnt. Not to mention I waited in the drive thru line this morning for over 20 minutes.

Love this coffee place because the coffee is great and they are open on Easter! I'm giving 3/5 starts because the customer service is hit and miss. I came inside because the line for drive brought was super long. I always order the Carmel blonde, it's my favorite. I ordered my drink and watched 5 others order theirs. I see everyone else get heir drink and mine hasn't came yet. I wait a few minutes because I'm patient but then nothing, 3 people are working so I ask and they act like I didn't even order my drink. They made it on the spot which I appreciated but it shouldn't have taken them that long to make it. read more

Normally I get great service and great drinks from this location, but today the service was terrible at best. The drive-thru person didn't seem able to assist more than one person at a time which is not the way to run the drive-up window. I thought at first maybe she was behind due to the two cars in front of me, but she asked the cars behind me to wait also. That wasn't a huge deal because she might be new or just having an off morning. I did however mind her abrasive customer service skills. I've spent years in customer service jobs and several years as a manger. How this person got a job at a coffee shop mystifies me to no end. I placed my order and pulled up to the window to pay. I asked if I could use my free birthday drink a day late and she clearly didn't want to do that, which is fine; but she just shut me down with a "I don't think we can do that." Not a problem. I was a day late, I still wanted my drink. I gave her my card and asked for a new punch card. During this time I attempted to make some small talk and she was completely uninterested in engaging with me. The drink was perfect. The barista was terrible. read more

Black rock is one of my favorite coffee shops. The coffee is always good, sometimes a bit over sweetened so I usually get half the syrup. From my experience the wait is never long and the "long" lines go by pretty quickly. I come here often and never have been disappointed. read more

UPDATE: four months since my review, and this location is STILL the worst. Slowest drive-thru in the history of life. I am currently sitting in the line wondering how much of my recent life has been wasted here. We have been loyal BR customers ever since their first Vancouver location opened on Mill Plain and 136th. We were there nearly every day (we lived just up the street for a few years) and when we moved east, we started going to the location off 164th. Needless to say, we know our Black Rock. Part of what we love about BR is that it is consistent. Across locations (we have been to the ones in Portland, Beaverton and even Seattle), the service is always fun and upbeat and the drinks are always delicious and taste the same every time. This is simply not the case with the Salmon Creek location. The employees who work the drive-thru window are unpleasant. On almost every occasion, the girls who take your order do not greet you. They do not ask how your day is or even what you want to order. They look at you and flatly say, "Hi," and that's it. The drinks aren't great either. They never taste the same as they do at other locations. They don't even taste consistent in their own location. We have visited this location several times each weekend for the last few months, but we may start driving a little extra to hit up the Hazel Dell location (love them!). read more

Staying the night at the Quality Inn next door, I was curious about Black Rock Coffee Bar. Read the reviews, sounded like the issues are with waiting in the drive through so I gave walking in a try. Walked in, there are four gals behind the counter, one waiting the front, two baristas, one waiting the drive-thru window. Nobody greeted me, had to stand at the counter in front of someone before she would look up and greet me. Couldn't hear the counter gal well, music was loud and there was quite a bit of environmental noise -- that was irritating. Ordered my coffee, paid with cash then had to watch to make sure she gave me the correct change -- scary. Coffee was immediately delivered. Tasted like a hot milkshake, couldn't taste a drop of coffee. Bottom line: Poor experience, high price, too sweet/sugary, not able to taste the coffee. They have face to face drive-thru ordering. The coffee is pretty good however I could do without the "forced Chat". So I guess their thing here (a la Dutch Bros.) is to be very personable and chatty while you wait for your coffee... (Sitting in the drive thru window just to talk to you after you give them your order) "So what are you up to today?" "I'm going to work". " oh, where do you work? " I would tell them... "Oh, that's cool, how long have you been there..." "X years" "Oh, how do you like " "It pays the bills" "So what are your plans this weekend...?" "Up in the air" "Oh, yeah, it might rain this weekend..." Thank God by now the coffee is usually ready. Every morning the same scenario unfolds. The exact same thing.. every morning..usually a different person but not always... After about 2 weeks of going there everyday before work, the required "Chat" became really tiresome. I like nice people and people just trying to be nice but I'm not really a Morning Person. I feel bad for these kids because it's probably required that they do the Chat. I don't want the Chat. They probably don't want to do the Chat. Only corporate actually wants the Chat. Ironically, I like to keep human interaction to a minimum until AFTER I've had my morning coffee... read more

This new location is a perfect study spot for WSU-V students. The baristas were nice. There is plenty of seating despite this location being relatively small. The interior is really cool with dark wood accents everywhere. Definitely nicer than other Black Rock locations in Vancouver. read more

This is a pretty convenient location in the Salmon Creek area near the I5/I205 split. First, it isn't Starbucks which gets them bonus points out of the gate. I'm a barista and I understand sometimes espresso shots come out burnt. I've tried this place 4 times and every time my coffee taste burnt and I don't know if the baristas go through training because shots in a latte go in before the milk. ESPECIALLY when the constantly burn them. This is the only black rock location I have ever had consistently horrible coffee. The one in Portland is amazing and the coffee is so smooth. This was my first time trying this coffee place. First off, I loved the environment, atmosphere, and decor. However, I was disappointed at their lack of pastries and other food items. Besides that, I ordered an iced coffee with hazelnut syrup and almond milk. I don't think they had iced coffee so she offered an iced hazelnut americano with almond milk. When I got my drink, I was unpleasantly surprised. There was an overwhelming cinnamon flavor and no sign of hazelnut. It also wasn't a typical sweet syrup flavor. Instead, it tastes as if my iced americano had a shot of cinnamon liquor. It was definitely unbearable. I added more almond milk but that didn't help. I ended up tossing it. I definitely want to this this shop again but will try a coffee with no syrup or flavoring next time. read more
