My wife went into Black Rock coffee on crismon road in Mesa Arizona today. We have literally spent thousands of dollars at this place. Today she got a fuel drink that had something floating in it so the guy had to remake it. He then gave it back to her 3/4 full. And he was a real jerk because he had to remake it because he's apparently incapable of making a correct drink without junk floating in it. And the girl that was working was also pretty snotty. The guy then proceeds to have a little hissy fit and told her to get out loudly. Very embarrassing for him and for my wife and for pretty much everybody else in the store that paid for a drink that was having their experience ruined. Do not go to this place because the management could care less. FYI they need to clean the place! read more

This location is newer, and love having a location a little closer to my house. My go to beverage is a cold brew with salted caramel and cream, but they also have a solid hot mocha. Service is always friendly and convenient through the drive thru. They also have great rewards, so don't forget to sign up! Today, I went in the drive thru at this Black Rock location to try the new frozen sour candy fuel. I ordered it frozen and added white chocolate (since I love that in my fuels). They gave me the drink iced. I told them it was supposed to be frozen, so they took back the iced drink and quickly gave me the "new frozen" drink. This is the drink that was received. It is obvious that the drink was dumped into a blender, because the gummy worms were extremely chunky and half the cup was full of foam. It was also very liquid and unlike the frozen drinks the others in my group received). I come to Black Rock often, so I know what the drinks should look like. This fuel was absolutely DISGUSTING. My family and I drove back to the location to get the drink replaced. The employee who originally took my order met me at the counter inside. I gave him the original drink and expressed my dissatisfaction. I asked to have a different drink instead (just a strawberry, coconut frozen fuel), because the other one was awful. He initially refused and said it was against company policy to remake a drink since it was halfway gone. First off, it was more than half remaining and also full of foam. He told me the reason it was not like the other frozen drinks is because the frozen fuel ice ran out (even though our order had another frozen fuel so that makes no sense). He was argumentative with me and company policy, then finally remade a drink when I insisted that the original product was not suitable quality to serve because of the crumbled gummy worms. He told me there were no gummy worms left, "only crumbs" of gummy worms were in the container. He then gave me another frozen fuel (with the proper frozen mix from the machine) this time, but made it a sour gummy worm fuel. This one had 2 intact gummy worms on top. When I told him that it wasn't a strawberry coconut fuel like he agreed to give me, he then argued that it's against customer policy to remake a drink differently than what was originally ordered. I pointed out that this remade drink was actually not my original order either (since it didn't have white chocolate). He then continued to argue that it did have white chocolate "just a really small amount that I couldn't taste or see it". I also pointed out that it was interesting the frozen fuel machine was full again and they had whole gummy worms again (unlike what he repeatedly told me). At this point, I asked for the manager's name. He told me to look at the door and refused to tell me the name. I told him I would find out through corporate who the manager of the store was, then he eventually told me the manager is Kelsey. I asked him what his name was, he said Jay. After I told him I was going to contact the manager and write a review, he made me a new frozen drink. I left extremely unhappy. I have come to this location since it opened. This weekend alone I actually went twice (with a whole group). I am not the type of person who writes negative reviews, but this experience was absolutely horrible. The staff was super helpful and pleasant. Made a bright start to my day! There were 4 cars in front of me waiting to order. Once I got to the order spot, I was promptly greeted but asked to please hold for a moment. By the time I got my order in, all the cars in front of me were gone and on their way with their treats! I was there for 5-10 minutes total which is awesome for a Saturday morning. Fast and friendly service! I ordered the bacon ricotta sando as my breakfast and it was fresh and hot but didn't seem to have much ricotta so I was little sad. For my drink, I went with my usual order, hot caramel truffle, as there were no seasonal drink offerings. I did not go inside the building, but the drive thru was clean and well kept. I sat at the order box for a while and wasn't helped so I pulled forward to the window only to find they close at 7PM--which is fine but neither me or the car in front of me were helped despite getting there before closing time... kinda disappointed. read more

Spacious and clean with nice outdoor tables and chairs. Friendly service. You do have to specify if you want your drink hot or cold, as they default to cold. I actually love the higher wooden tables outside as they have a foot bar that is perfectly mounted in height (for someone shorter). If I lived here, I would work remotely from this cafe. read more

This is a wonderful coffee spot to get some studying in, get work done, or visit with a friend. There is nice indoor and outdoor seating - and plenty of it! Some coffee shops are wonderful and have a great vibe but not enough space. This one has the vibe, the seating, the space, and always seems to be well staffed. I enjoyed just a simple espresso shot on ice but it was very good! Craving it now even..... ! There is also a drive-through.... haven't used it yet, but love when cafes have that option. A friend of mine visited Arizona last year and told me to try this local business out. It's been our go-to! Espresso is strong and works! Keeps me up all day (and night) so I only try to drink it during the weekends when I don't work. I learned the hard way when I couldn't sleep on a Sunday night after the first time I tried the Caramel Truffle. Overall, great tasting iced lattes. Jalapeño bagels are warm and huge! 1st time here. Really disappointing. I only drink black coffee and I'm new to BR, was excited to try it. So I asked for a sample of brew (made in the big tank) to choose that or Americano. Cashier asked how to let me try it. She was told no by someone working the espresso machine "because of Covid." HUH?? "Okay, ask someone if it's strong." Cashier asked same person who said yes, it's strong. So we decided to just order 2 anyway. When I asked for sugar on the side, it was given to me by the sweet cashier in this little generic cup... That would have been perfect to drop a splash of brew in for me to taste. CUSTOMER SERVICE FAIL. But not the cashier's fault, she's sweet and seemed new-ish. Didn't try it until we drove away because it's really hot. Coffee is at best medium, for me watery. My friend agrees. I would have gotten an Americano instead. This leaves me with a watery, unfilled taste in my mouth. As much as I don't love Starbucks, I won't be rushing to a BR. Need some employee training on this one. read more

I'm a simple coffee lover who prefers a good, smooth cold brew before anything else. This place has just that. Black Rock Coffee Bar is reminiscent of a more hip and spacious Starbucks with a plethora of coffee flavors and cool swag. The coffee is branded well and has the taste to back to up. Unfortunately I don't live in the area, so I won't get to try all the different flavors; however, if you're a sweet coffee drinker then this place will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth with their variety of sugary drinks. Aside from drinks, the service is great and has a nice atmosphere where I was able to get a couple of hours of work done. My only complaint is the lack of power outlets. I could only spot three places to charge my devices, and unfortunately two of them were by couches which is not the prime place for me to set up my work space. Was looking for a good place to check out and work for a few hours. There is no shortage of options in any large city but I had driven by Black Rock several times and was intrigued so I stopped in. Service - Always friendly and helpful. A staff that likes to have fun and appears to be enjoying themselves. Atmosphere - high ceilings, modern furniture and architecture, lots of windows. The one I go to has a couple of garage doors that open to an outdoor patio. Plenty of options to sit and chill or work. Limited outlets for power is a bit of a bummer. Free WiFi. Overall a cool atmosphere and good place to hang. Value - I am a fan of iced drinks. I'm weening myself off of coffee and am going hard toward Green Tea. Their tea is well made and full of flavor. You have the option to add various flavors or strips to your tea as well. I like to stick to straight up tea on ice. My only small tiny complaint is the lack of additional green tea options. Not a huge deal but it would be an added plus. Location - they are a western United States brand with locations in several states. In Arizona there are a few locations throughout the East Valley area. I go to the one off of Crismon and baseline most often. Rating - I'll be rating Black Rock on a scale of 1 to 5 Green Teas to celebrate the drink I get there. I'll give Black Rock a rating of 4 green teas out of 5. I had been through the drive-thru before, but quite a while ago when they first opened, because my roommate absolutely loves Black Rock. So, this was the first time I'd actually been inside and ordered. I wasn't disappointed at all! The establishment is fairly newer, so the interior is well done, spacious & decorated quite nice, casual. They had a great holiday tree set up with a lot of toy donations to accompany, so I also felt quite pleased to be contributing to a place that also gives back! The menu is fairly simple, not so much to where it becomes overwhelming, so I appreciate that! But, the options are still plentiful! It's a coffee shop, so almost anything is customizable. And the staff are truly a pleasure to communicate with. Everyone was kind, polite & seemed happy to be there. The overall vibe was very good & I felt comfortable & welcome from the minute I walked in. I opted for the blended chai- it was fantastic! I'm usually frequenting another coffee chain, and they don't offer the blended chai on their menu, so this may actually provoke me to go out of my way specifically for this drink! Roomie got his usual iced coffee latte & never complains. It took less than 5 minutes to order, and less than 5 minutes wait. I can say I really enjoyed the visit and now am wanting to try one of their smoothies, as I hear they are REALLY good! So I will be back! I've been a faithful customer since they opened and I tried their sugar free Fuel energy drink with the flavor options. Today I went through the drivethru and staff was great as always but I questioned the sugar free fuel I ordered and was told they received their new drinks and all I can say is it's awful, tastes like non carbonated crappy tap water with some added flavoring. I'm not sure what changed but I'm gonna need to switch back to Dutch and I hate to say it I'm sure many more will! Haven't been here for about 6 months. Came in this week to give this location another try and had poor service once again. Walked in and there was nobody in line. Only a few people waiting for their drinks. Great! So I'm standing in front of the register area waiting to give my order. The girl taking orders was standing at the counter where the register is trying to seal a bag of coffee that the previous customer had ordered. She was having trouble with the seal of the bag. Watching her try to seal the bag, I saw that her hair was falling into the customer's bag of coffee! Eww! I will remember to not order coffee here for sure. Her hair kept dangling into the bag of coffee and then she notices that I'm standing there waiting to order. She apologized for the wait, then got a new bag for the coffee she had been messing with, and gives the previous customer their bag of coffee. I ordered a holiday drink that was advertised on a large poster right next to the ordering area. I told the girl that I wanted the one advertised on the poster and I read the name of the drink as written right on the poster. She never asked if I wanted whipped cream, so I asked her if the drink could have whipped cream on top. She responded with, "Yes, it can." I assumed that she had added whipped cream to my order. I waited for my order and by this time, there was a line of customers. I waited and waited while customers who ordered after me received their drinks. Finally, a drink came out for me. I have no idea what drink this was, but it was definitely NOT what I had ordered. This drink was completely white in color and had no whipped cream, like I had asked for. I told the lady who presented this drink to me that this was not what I ordered. I then had to re-order my drink to this lady, who was making the drinks. This location opened up near me and I am so happy it did. Black Rock offers drinks Starbucks has no hope of making for people who must have sugar-free options. The coffee is good and strong (which means more cream for me) and the nitro is as advertised. I love that the crew will give you suggestions that turn into awesome drinks and the atmosphere is relaxed. Unfortunately, it's also not the fastest place to go. If there are multiple cars, it's going to be a wait. If there are multiple cars and the order box is broken, you're really going to wait. Also, the drive-thru itself is a pain to navigate in our truck. It's small and the turn is really tight which means we have to go inside if we are in the truck. That also means I cannot be dressed like a bum if I'm not in my car. I can only hope this is attributed to growing pains and not a trend as it is currently becoming. Pros: great selection of sugar free flavors, awesome atmosphere, nice people. Cons: drive-thru is a hit and miss with service as it's usually really slow (3+ cars was over 15 mins), drive-thru area is tight for larger vehicles, long wait. read more

Black Rock Coffee is really growing in AZ, and is a welcome reprieve from the big box coffees. You know...the Warbucks and the Butch Wothers... Black Rock doesn't have a vast menu, so it can be difficult to get something without coffee AND without sugar. They do have teas, and also sugar free energy drinks, where you can add sugar free flavors. Not too shabby. The prices aren't astronomical, but do fall in line with THOSE shops. The rewards program is also weird. You just give your phone number when you pay. The drive through of this location is awkward. You drive around back, but only from the north, where cones direct you to the drive through, which is located between the buildings. Pay attention! You could be in the Fili B's drive through instead! Overall, I like the quality of their product. The staff has always been really friendly, and is good at giving suggestions for different dietary restrictions. They won't talk your ear off though, like other places with suuuuppppeeer long lines. Give Black Rock a try, and break out from big box coffee. read more
