I bring the kids I babysit here and it is such a family friendly shop, they even have a little area for kids to hang out. The coffee here tasted very weak. I stick with drip coffee and this brew was lacking in body and overall flavor. I drink a lot of coffee and found this to be under extracted or have the wrong ration of grounds to water. The service inside was very aloof and disinterested. I wanted to know a little more about where their coffee was sourced and they seemed annoyed by my questions. They didn't have many food options. I did get a cookie and it was dry and seemed like it had been baked several days before. I definitely won't be coming back. There are better places for drinks or a snack in the area. read more

It was a busy, popular morning when I went in to get a breakfast for my partner. I ordered the panini breakfast burrito with chorizo and a vanilla iced chai. Everything was prepared quickly despite the line of people coming in for their morning caffeine fix and quick breakfast. I got it to go and was surprised when I opened the bag because the burrito was huge! Great price, flavor, and it was perfectly prepared. My partner gives them 5 stars and would love to try it in person. read more

I had the most lovely visit at Black Owl! I'm a flight attendant, and just decided to go on a stroll before heading to work today. I happened to find this treasure, and will definitely be back! I tried the Night Owl coffee and the egg scramble with the pesto- pesto on eggs, genius! So delish! I made friends with the owners little boy, who told me the story behind the name 'Black Owl' and he also highly recommend the brown butter chocolate chip cookie...... best cookie ever! I was planning on saving the rest of the cookie for later... but must confess I ate the rest within 20 min later.. because it was just THAT GOOD!!!! We came here on 8/10 at lunchtime and waited 40 minutes for our 3 sandwiches to arrive. We checked on the order multiple times and all that we were told is there was a long wait and we had people ahead of us. Eventually we had to leave and only got our food when I went to ask for a refund. It was a very poor experience. read more

Stopped by today because of the great Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. The customer service was top notch. Met Greg, the owner by chance. He was friendly and you could see he genuinely cared about his customers and wanted to share his craft not just make a buck selling crap coffee. He made some excellent recommendations for pastries. Both were amazing, the banana bread and the almond cake. We ordered specialty coffees, both were the best we've had while traveling to vacation destinations. Sometimes you want to try new stuff but it doesn't always hit the spot. Todays find was perfection. The homemade whipping cream really made it stand out. Seems like everyone local loves the coffee too, it was busy enough to see it was a hit but not so busy they couldn't handle the crowd. Very personable staff, and cute store front. My husband and I were impressed that our favorite hot sauce was available, no one ever has it. Marie Sharps hot sauce is the best!! We were just passing through for the first time today but when we come back to visit, this is where we will stop for our coffee again. Thank you for a great experience. read more

We come to SV a few times a year from SF (land of the great cold brew), and I have always failed to find anything decent at Java, Hailey Coffee Co, Hank and Sylvie's - when I discovered Black Owl, it was game over - the best cold brew and coffee in the greater Wood River Valley. I come here every day, if I can. Owners are hard workers and incredible people. Oh, and the iced poppy seed muffin is a must! The BLTA is so fresh and hits the spot. read more

In a post-covid world the cafe or restaurant that reveals itself as a true 5-star is rare because in many ways the standards were lowered by our wanting things back to the way they once were. We were so happy to dine inside mask-free, to wait in line for fresh pastries and coffee, or unwrap our breakfast burritos that we replaced enthusiasm for quality and it muddied the whole review process all together. Black Owl brings us back to that high bar for greatness that is unique and it keeps us thinking about food long after we drive away: fresh ingredients, delicious recipes, enthusiastic staff who care about you; experiences you remember because you felt loved through food. I don't know when I will be back to Hailey Idaho, but when I do return, my first stop will be the Black Owl for a hot cup of coffee, a pastry and the smile that follows. This is one of my favorite coffee shops and I truly hope they stay in our town forever! Their pastries are really, really, REALLY great, it's hard not to pick one up every time I'm in here. (I HIGHLY recommend their blueberry scones!!!!) There've got a pretty great breakfast and lunch menu, although I've only tried their burrito. The atmosphere is inviting and there is plenty of seating. It can get pretty crowded inside when outside seating isn't available (during winter), but even then we've always scored a seat or table to sit at. During the warmer months they've got plenty of outdoor seating. I LOVE sitting outside with my coffee and chatting (I've seriously had the best convos here) while the birds are chirping and the sun is out. I love everything about this place, but I do wish they had some kind of loyalty program to give back to their customers. Lately I've noticed I've been drifting away from this spot, and going to other coffee shops (that I don't love as much) to earn points that go towards a free drink. If you're looking for a spot to grab coffee, pastries, breakfast, or lunch I recommend stoping here! read more
