    Elk tartare

I came for the elk tartare. It was good. It paired well with a gin martini. The presentation in congealed bone marrow was unique, but I am not sure the combination is better than the individual parts. The Colorado double cut lamb chops were excellent. The beef short rib needed a sauce.

We were staying at Madeline and had a breakfast twice here for the convenience. The food wasn't good and the service was very slow on our second visit when the restaurant wasn't even packed. I was craving fruits during my entire time in Telluride for some reason and the Bluegrass deliciously satisfied my fruit craving. It's a must order if you like smoothies that are fruity and sweet. The Wilderness Breakfast Bowl didn't have any flavor in it and the omelette seemed like they used liquid eggs. For the price that I paid, I expected a higher quality.

Trust the reviews (I didn't). The nice decor and fancy accents of the staff aren't enough for me to recommend even trying this place. Party of five grown adults for Sunday brunch but the restaurant didn't appear to be super busy. Why did they try to seat us at a FOUR TOP? The hostess literally said she would add a chair and table setting. WTF... Out came our juices, and coffees - good speed of service and tasty. When our food came, most was cooked well. Avocado toast, however, was inedible. The bread was so burnt it didn't even cut using a knife. (It was a butter knife, but should you need a steak knife to cut avocado toast?) The staff made several attempts to clear dishes before people were done eating. This is honestly unacceptable. After all was said, our party of five agreed that we should have paid attention to the numerous negative reviews because our experience wasn't worth the price or aggravation of coming here.

Not sure why the rating is so low. I really enjoyed the food here. I stayed at this hotel, so all I need is just walk down to dine. They have indoor and outdoor seatings (outdoor with heat lamp but still recommend to sit inside so the food don't get cold) The place gets busy so the service might be a bit slow, the host was also our waiter for the night. We went ahead and got the order from the feast which is a 20oz elk steak. Which is perfect for two person to share. It's cooked to the perfection, with side of sweet potato, finger potato, sweet onion and carrots. The plate is huge everything is delicious.

Amazing final meal in Mountain Village. I had been salivating for elk the entire trip, and Black Iron did not let me down. Food was fantastic - the elk platter I highly recommend comes as a 20oz piece served with potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, and carrots. The sweet huckleberry sauce was a perfect compliment to the game meat. Suggest to order Medium Rare as medium can be somewhat dry. The waiter said platter was enough for 3 people, but if you don't order any appetizers then two hungry people can easily finish it. We ended with the chocolate cake and peanut butter ice cream which is quite yummy, but admittedly not the best I've had. In hindsight, could have skipped dessert. Service was attentive and quick. Waiter and maitre 'd were both super informed and gave great recommendations. There is indoor and outdoor seating. In fall/winter they have gas heaters all around so not too cold, but I think when cooler you'll want to sit inside. Overall I highly recommend for a great night out.

I don't write many reviews but I'm going out of my today, while on vacation, to write one on this establishment out of sheer bewilderment. I have had lunch here many times while in Telluride, and the food has always been very good. Today, at 2 pm, my family attempted to have lunch here again (my son loves their cheeseburger), and upon arrival were told by the hostess that the restaurant was only seating hotel guests. The restaurant was mostly empty, perhaps about 15-20% of tables occupied if that, with servers standing around helplessly, chatting with each other, folding napkins. Another family came in at the same time we did and were also turned down because they weren't hotel guests. We asked to speak to the manager, who came out and told us that because the hotel was full (clearly the restaurant was NOT) and because "they didn't know when everybody was coming" (this is 2 pm mind you, well past the lunch rush and long before the apres crowd), they were refraining from seating non-hotel guests. I have never heard anything so ludicrous, and feel terrible for the staff who missed out on at least a few tables worth of tips as a result of this silly "we never know when they're coming" decision by management. I hope I can convince my husband to come here for lunch again on this trip, However, if the same policy is in effect, I know it'll be on his off list for good. On the bright side, there are plenty of places within a few short steps that are also good and don't turn away customers willing to pay a pretty penny for lunch while on a ski vacation. I am disappointed in this place to say the least. P.S. Pics taken an hour later, at 3:00 pm. Still empty.

Super busy over the holidays but good service and great food. Loved the Fondue as an app, burger was delish and French onion soup a 10!
