I was raised partly in Italy and this was some of the best Italian food I've had in 15 years of visiting the U.K. since I graduated Uni there. An Italian family own and operate the place and they're hospitality is second only to the food. Absolutely amazing meal, just tell them what you don't like and they'll bring the rest. It's a little hard to find but once we finally arrived we set of on our two hour walk, and at the end popped in for a rewarding pint! We didn't stop for food on this occasion but the menu looked fantastic and the pub itself is beautifully decorated. The pub dog, a beautiful King Charles Spaniel, is another good reason to visit! There are ten walks in total, varying in distance, but all starting from the pub. Apparently there is a reward if you complete all ten - that sounds like a challenge I would like to accept!

Along the whole length of one wall is an amazing wooden shelving unit / dresser with drawers. It was discovered out in the garage when the new people opened the restaurant and was made for the general stores which is what this building had been when it first opened. There are fantastic lamps on the walls - incandescent bulbs with gorgeous twisty filaments in metal cages. Lovely. Anyway, the menu was small but unusual. Once we had seen the menu we decided to have a little more than a croissant! I chose scrambled eggs with chives and cream; my partner had charred mackerel with pickled cherries. There was not a lot when it arrived but it was delicious and with a gorgeous creamy texture. It came with slices of soda bread toast, griddles with olive oil. The combination was delicious. My partner loved his fish, which looked not far off raw and loved the pickled cherries too. As this had been so good we decided to try the wonderfully named Dirty, filthy cheesecake! So named because they mix in another pungent cheese. Today it was stinking bishop! When it arrived as a small portion with currants and grapes and a red wine reduction it was delicious. Very firm and dense and with a definite taste of something pungent lurking in the background. Unusual. We decided to finish with a latte each and agreed afterwards that it was a top class cup of coffee. Service was very friendly, the cakes on the counter looked great, the cocktails sounded extra special and Dan is a bit of a cocktail whizz by all accounts. Also, the wine list was individual and had obviously been chosen thoughtfully. Sadly, as we still had our early morning hats on we didn't feel wine was appropriate ... We were very impressed and would have loved a return visit but due to the press of the weekend it didn't happen.

Fine with us, it was the only cooked food source within easy walking distance our cottage in the country. With cheeses like Winterdale Shaw, (they have their own dairy herd, and chalk lined cellar to mature the cheese in), and Bloomy Rinded Somerset Brie, it was a pleasure dining there.

As are the farm itself and shop, offering a great trip to see the animals for families, and tons of delicious organic local produce in the shop (see the two additional Yelp entries!). The restaurant itself serves up home-made foods of deliciousness, with much produce coming from the farm. You'll find a yummy sausage and onion baguettes, indulgent cream tea and fresh soups as well as larger meal options (the aforementioned being the three things I've tried!). All the food is a real treat, and with a warming fire in winter, it's an excellent place for a cosy winter pick me up.

They do have adorable signs greeting the dogs and even offering their own dog menu. I do love the fact that they take photos of them and there is hundreds of photos on ceiling of all the dogs that have been inside the bar. A group of us came in for a beer and to just adore the adorable dogs. The staff is so sweet and friendly and I honestly wish I lived locally to come here more often.
