This is a very charming 16th century house with riverside outdoor seating. We walked in around noon a couple days ago for lunch. We got seated right away. We decided to seat inside, but later I found out the outdoor seating looked amazing. Service was phenomenal and friendly from the moment we walked in, staff checked on our table several times to make sure everything was good. At one point my son was kinda fussy after a long travel day, staff came talk to him and gave him a lollipop. We ordered deep fried calamari, 1/2 rib, beef burger, mixed seafood dish, lamb shank, fish (cod) and chip, and their homemade pie steak and Stilton. Everything was delicious. We were very happy with the portion and quality of food. Each dish was prepared nicely and attention to detail. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at The Old Weavers. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Canterbury.

If you are in Canterbury, you must visit this amazing restaurant! It is a very popular spot, so I definitely recommend a reservation. They have the largest selection of pies I've seen at any restaurant thus far during my English adventures, and even have vegetarian and a vegan option. I chose the Steak & Guinness pie with a side of steamed vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly my food arrived, and it was lava hot!! The vegetables were cooked perfect and the pie.... OOH THE PIE! The biscuit on top was so flakey and delicious. The steak and sauce was heavenly. It was seriously one of the best meals I've ever had. So good, I plan on returning to Canterbury just to try another pie next time I go to England. Not only was the food incredible, the staff was lovely and the restaurant was decorated very nicely. The building itself is from1500, which I find fascinating as there is nothing that old where I live (Wisconsin, USA). It is also right next to the river and statue of Geoffrey Chaucer. Fun fact: Orlando Bloom donated to the construction of this statue as he is also from Canterbury! Highly recommend. The only thing that could make it better is if they would deliver to Wisconsin ;)

Bacon wrapped halloumi, 1/2 pint of Curious Session IPA, and 1/2 pint of Curious Brew Draft (local brewery).

Absolutely love this restaurant. Wait staff are very friendly. Food was good and the ambiance both inside and out made for a pleasant visit.

One of the best pub meals I've had in England. The salmon and calamari were fresh and delicious but the real star of the show is this 16th century location right on the river's edge. The service and ambience made this a five star experience.

The pies were awesome! This was a chicken, sweet corn pie.

The food, service and ambiance were all outstanding. I had the chicken and sweet corn and it was amazing! A great place to absorb the history of the community while enjoying food and drinks. Highly recommend!

    Great location near city center.

This place is a perfect higher end dinner spot. Lasts start with the staff, all seemed to be Italian and a bit short handed but all were very good. When we ate it was a slow evening so no major issues. Food was excellent all around, I had the steak and Guinness pie and my son had the fish and chips. The pie was just as it should be, steak was tender and had great flavor, pastry top was light and crisp, yummy. Fish and chips were very good, breading was typical old school light and crispy. Cod was just right and chips were wide but thin and slightly curled, proper chips! Desert was good but a slight step down, cheese cake and apple blackberry crumble. Both were tasty but not as good as the mains. Steak pie went well with Guinness! All in all, I would recommend eating here as you can't go wrong. Check out the garden seating in the back, it's a nice comfortable venue.

Nice experience, apart from the waitress not knowing anything about the beers that were on tap. We opted for the 20 pound "dine and punt" package, and both the lunch (out on the back patio by the waterside) and the punting on the river turned out to be very pleasant experiences.

The Old Weavers House, Canterbury, UK - warm, cozy, with a nice old 500 year history

Would be 5 stars, but feel, a couple more visits are necessary, before I give any place 5 stars. We were in Canterbury on an off and on rainy day. We were looking for a late afternoon snack / light lunch, when her Ladyship spied the Old Weavers House. It appeared to serve traditional Brit fare (fayre), so in we popped. Place appeared busy, but we were seated promptly at a cute little table on the first floor. It was nice as there was a wooden wall separating us from new customer traffic, but we had a nice view of other tables, and could see what they had ordered. Our waitress, was quick with the drink order, and patient about coming back, so that "she WHO MUST be obeyed," could spend an inordinate amount of time, looking over the menu. HAHA, I make a funny (hope, she doesn't read this review, or you might not be hearing from the old guy for while). Actually, we needed to make our minds up rather quickly, needing to catch a train back to the Broadstairs area and we were on foot. Her Ladyship chatted it up with the server, they both decided a family starter dish would work, the server said she add a bit to it, and it should suffice. SEE PHOTO - The dish would have sufficed for a ravenous family of four... thick cut slices of cheddar, rounds of soft cheeses, sliced gammon (ham), turkey, salad veggies, with sliced breads. Server came back and asked if it was enough? Apparently not as Her Grace saw some of the desserts cruising by, and wanted to try one. Now, this always brings a smile to my face, because I enjoy my desserts, in liquid form. She had the apple crumble, with assorted toppings, and I enjoy a nice, neat, Jamesons. We thought the price was quite reasonable for all we had, and the service was just great. Anyone working there, will check to see if you need something, if passing your table. Old Weavers House has been there since 1500's, so it's interesting to just have a look around while your enjoying your food. We'll definitely return, so we can have a dinner, sometime.

Whenever my family would visit me whilst I was at university they always insisted that we ate here. Excellent food and great ambience. It's always buzy so book ahead at peak time.

This was such a great spot for lunch. I love how old the place is, built in the year 1500, and it looks it! So lovely. The food was really good too. Best BLT I've ever had.

This is my third time here, so it must be OK. The Old Weavers serves traditional English fayre (with some additions). This is not a fancy restaurant but is very good value wholesome food. The main courses of note are pies (various meat fillings) and roasts (beef and pork) there we go! Don't come here and expect haute cuisine come here and enjoys Steak and Ale Pie with perfectly cooked vegetables at an excellent price. Good, old fashioned and no nonsense. Well recommended. P.S make sure you book at weekends as it does get busy!

Service marginal, food ok, BUT, slight case of food poisoning. Very unpleasant evening following the meal.

Having my whole trip being around all these businesses that takes such pride and making it festive, honestly only makes me wanna come back during December. I am from the United States, so it was definitely getting used to having to always go to the bar which never has stools to order your drink and then close out right away. My girlfriend, I ordered some beers and then of course I had to try their chili which looked absolutely amazing on their menu. There's nothing more enjoyable than having a hot meal during colder weather. I very much enjoyed the flavors and texture of the chili. I believe it was sour cream on the side and the rice, which I was adding in. The portion was the right amount and I was definitely full. This place and name does have a fun ambience. This is very chill area and definitely highly recommend stopping in and grabbing a beer. Don't forget to order that chili because it was delicious.
