Stopped by during our trip to Canterbury on a cold rainy day Good food, service and beer selection. Everyone enjoyed it!

This place has quite an extensive list of tap beers offered, a lot which are brewed in-house and they are quite delicious and full bodied. The atmosphere is cute but large for big parties. The service was great and the portions were huge for the affordable price. It did take us 50min to get our food, which sort of threw off our time visiting Canterbury for the day. The BBQ burger was alright, the Mac n cheese was very yummy, the fish and chips as well as BBQ brisket and pork roast were excellent. This place definitely deserves a try- it even has outdoor seating for a lovely warm day. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is the food took too long, and the women's toilets had no soap (not even a dispenser), one stall had urine everywhere and the other stall was overflowed. Gross

    Fish and Chips with peas.

Found this outstanding place walking through the town. Glad we did. Great selection of beer and drinks. IPA tasted delicious and food was amazing. Atmosphere is amazing, comfy, and welcoming. Staff were friendly and service was top notch.

An outstanding English pub with ample portions and great service. The food was delicious and one of our favorite places to eat in the UK.

Very much just a factory like any other and lacking any of the charisma or style of many of the craft breweries I've visited. The visitor center is not located at the brewery. It's in the town center and is basically just a pub and a gift shop. The bad thing is, even though it's the official visitor center, unless you take the tour (which are very few and booked out well in advance we discovered), you can't even have a beer there. I was told I could go to any of their "licensed pubs" to have a beer. That kind of defeats the purpose of coming to the brewery doesn't it? I've visited a ton of breweries and they all have public tasting rooms at the brewery so you can drink the freshest beer and the newest recipes. I was amazed. So I didn't get a tour. And I didn't even get a beer. So Shepherd Neame was a complete waste of time.

The place is in a bit of a random spot, I wasn't too keen on our walk there but we made it. We ordered a pint as we were early, their speciality Cake boy, a hazelnut beer I wasn't too keen on it and wished I haven't ordered a whole pint. Plus it was expensive £13 for two pints! It should be cheaper directly from the brewery. Also i definitely wouldn't have ordered a whole pint if I had known I was going to have to chug the thing as we weren't allowed to take drinks on the tour with us! This is very different from US brewery tours and they usually welcome drinking on the tours. However I understand why, as the tour starts out in their private tap room, where you drink and taste all their different beers on tap. I think we tried around 5-6 beers, we even got to still taste their stout even though they had ran out of it on draft. They actually opened bottles of it, to pour for us -- I was impressed and their stout was nice, it's different from others stouts as I'm not a stout drinker. The pours were a third of a pint each too. The tour in whole was 2 hours but didn't actually last that long. The tasting lasted around an hour -- this is something I haven't experienced at US breweries, where the staff go into soo much detail about each beer and taste them with you. Usually a brewery tour is only 20-30 minutes touring the facility. This tour was more like bourbon tours I have been on. The actual tap room we were in was full of Michael Jackson's (the beer critic) glass collection -- cool or what? After the tasting we finally toured the facility, which lasted around 20 minutes or so. The tasting was better than the tour, I could have skipped the tour, their was nothing special. As traditional with British health and safety laws, we were required to wear safety goggles on the tour, even though it was the evening and nothing was happening. One thing that did disappoint me, was you weren't able to keep a tasting glass after the tour, you had to buy one from the gift shop. Also as I'm not up to date on British craft beer, I was surprised to learn that Meantime sold out to SAB Miller a few years ago and then was later sold to a Japanese company. However though we enjoyed the tour overall (I think it was all the beer -- lol). We stayed after the tour finished, had another pint and actually ended up chatting to our tour guide for the evening. We had a great time.

The ales are all brewed in small batches and the final fermentation takes place in the bottle. This means that you are getting a PROPER ale that has seen no chemicals or untoward processes. Many of them are also vegan friendly. The owners are very active at events in the county and I have had a couple of great chats at the Grape and Grain and the Chilli Festival recently. They are clearly passionate about their produce and if you try one of their offerings you will see why. They brew a range of classic IPA's, porters, weissbeers, mead and chilli beers. The 'Black Death' is brewed with a generous amount of naga chilli's and this makes a great present for something a little different. Their website lists the stockist of the ales in the area (they only brew in bottle and not by the cask) and you may also order directly off thier website. I really cannot heap enough praises on the Fallen Angel ales and their meads. Take pride in your county and get a selection in today, you will not be disappointed!
