What a find this place is! This is food about as good as it gets and the menu is ever changing…read morebased on what is locally available. The menu is simple and perfect, a choice of a 6 course or 8 course tasting menu; with a wine pairing option. They will happily alter to suite vegetarians etc. Everything we had, from a light broad bean and mint velouté soup, 20 minute sugar/salt cured fresh mackerel blow touched to crisp the skin, local beef and two deserts was outstanding. The staff were very professional, knowledgable and helpful. Decor is modern, clean and very attractive. There is absolutely nothing I can say negative about this place. Apparently others feel the same way, it is becoming extremely difficult to get a reservation. Interestingly the kitchen is open and a hive of activity. Steven Edwards (an award winning British chef) and his team clearly know what they are doing and are not afraid to experiment and surprise. For example; bread is a light, warmed brioche bun with a glossy Marmite glaze. Absolutely stunning, especially considering I do not like Marmite! My wife, daughter and me spent a very enjoyable 3 hours dinning at Etch and left very happy and pleasantly surprised. The 8 course tasting menu is not over indulgent, just right for anyone with a normal appetite. You may have noticed all my reviews to date on Yelp have been 5 star, this is deliberate. Life is too short to focus on that which does not make us happy. This is why I restrict my reviews to those things/places that make me happy and appreciate life. Sure, I have been to some really awful restaurants, but, like I said, life is too short to spend time thinking and writing about them

I was lucky enough to be taken here for lunch by the Yelp duchess of the Sussex Yeoman, Brix H and…read moreher boyfriend The Yeoman is located a very short uphill walk from Brighton station but you may a little difficulty recognising it as the E has fallen off the sign, making it currently the YO MAN! It's quite cozy inside but Brix had booked a table. Despite its proximity to the station, it was a nice relaxing place to chill and chat. It did get busy later with football fans and we vacated our table so that others could eat There was a good varied menu with some ambitious dishes on there. I was warned that the portions size is generous here and you certainly won't go away hungry. You know it's a good menu when it's really difficult to choose I eventually settled on scallops with black pudding and potatoes served on salad including apple. The portion was huge and while the presentation wasn't fine dining and certainly wasn't intended to be fine dining, the combination of flavours was spot on. The scallops were sweet and I appreciated the fact that they had left the coral on - there is so much flavour there. The slightly spicy and deep flavour of the black pudding was the perfect foil and the salad dressing was well judged. Yum This is a pub with a serious kitchen. Recommended!

Inside you are greeted by an impressive selection of wines and ales, enough to please any potential connoisseur. While this isn't exactly something to write home about, the food certainly is. Inside the Yeoman, you won't find reconstituted burgers with a helping of soggy chips. You will instead be given the task of choosing from a weekly menu of locally sourced dishes, combing traditional British cooking with a modern continental influence. This isn't the cheapest lunch you will ever have, but it is possibly the best one you'll find in Brighton. The Yeoman would be more at home in trendy North London, not 20 yards from Brighton station's smoking area. That however, is our gain, and not London's. If you are searching for a warm meal, this pub won't be for you. However, if you really want to try good food, then look no further.

I ordered cheesy bread and the shepherds pie. Oh my goodness... both were incredible!!! It was a weirdly cold day when I went, so the food was not only delicious but also very comforting. Coming here is a good time.

A great, slightly quirky, traditional pub in a great Sussex village…read more You won't find Chiddingly by accident - it's off a narrow lane off the A22, between Lewes and Eastbourne. The village itself dates back to Domesday and has a fine mediaeval church (worth a visit while there). In fact, the village has 55 entries in the listed building guide, so there's more than enough history to occupy the most hardened tourist before retiring to the pub for refreshment. The pub building dates back to 1774 (and possibly earlier) and is a Grade II listed building; the frontage of blue and red bricks looks suitably traditional, and through the front door there is a main bar area to the left and a wonderful snug room (with a huge fireplace) to the right. The interior is all wooden beams and stone floors, with a bar serving a good selection of real ales and generous portions of traditional pub grub, all with friendly bar staff. (NB The food is popular, so be prepared to wait at busy periods). Towards the rear of the pub, the walls are festooned with old pictures and photographs, and a motorcycling theme predominates: it is a well-known meeting place for bikers, and there's a club board by the back door giving details of events, runs, etc. Outside is a large garden, with lots of seating. The rear of the pub is decorated with old enamel advertising signs, covering every subject imaginable. Also at the back is the large, surfaced car park - perfect for rows of shiny (or, in my case, not so shiny) motorbikes. If all that wasn't enough, the pub also host a fortnightly folk and blues club (http://www.6bellsfolk.co.uk ) as well as its biker meets. Oh, and on my last visit, my mate and I (on our bikes) opted for 2 pints of soda and lime to quench our thirst, with a couple of packets of crisps. It came to £1.80. How great it is, not to feel ripped off with outrageously priced soft drinks! (Next time, though, I'll get someone else to drive so I can sample the real ales...)
